Nicole Kidman: ‘The most important thing is balance & to take your vitamins’

FFN_Kidman_Nicole_BJJFF_010214_51295608

These are some photos of Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and their two daughters (Faith and Sunday) at LAX last week. I’ve been dying to use them for days, just because we really don’t see Faith and Sunday that much, especially when you consider how much we see of other celebrity children. Sunday looks like her dad, I think – I see more Keith there, but that could change as she grows up. But the big surprise for me is how much Faith looks like Nicole all of a sudden. I think Faith is a ginger – and that looks like Nicole’s original, frizzy red hair. YAY! I always hoped Nicole would have a ginger daughter. I like the girls in matching dresses too – very cute.

Nicole recently did an interview with Parade Magazine about health and happiness – this reads a bit like Jennifer Aniston’s recent interviews, like an infomercial wrapped up in New Age lifestyle-speak.

Parade: How do you take care of yourself with what you eat?
Kidman: I eat everything, except I’m allergic to strawberries. So basically, a little bit of everything—the name of one of my husband’s songs.

How do you take care of yourself with what you do for your physical activity?
I work out regularly. I run, spin, play tennis. I love the outdoors.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned about health so far?
If you’re tired, go easy. The most important thing I think is balance and to take your vitamins. I’m a Swisse wellness spokesperson, which is a great fit for me. They have a great array of vitamins, especially the Women’s Ultivite which has over 50 vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and herbs. It’s a must-have during winter for busy women. Their skin, hair, and nails vitamins are amazing as well—they have literally changed my hair.

How do you sustain a positive mental outlook, “get happy”?
I believe that everyone needs a different set of tools, so to speak. I love to meditate and I try to always do something active each day. I also believe love is incredibly important to maintaining a positive outlook. Love for your children, for your partner, being able to give it and receive it.

What one health condition would you most like to eradicate for everyone and why?
Cancer would probably be the primary health condition I would love to eradicate.

How do you handle holiday stress?
Take each day as it comes. We try not to get caught up in the materialistic side of Christmas. We see it as more of a time of giving, donating and taking care of others.

How do you manage holiday eating?
I’m not that strict. I think it’s a time to enjoy and then in the New Year, I tend to step it up. I just really enjoy good food and the relaxation of preparing it and eating it. I’m not a very good cook but I do love when someone else is.

[From Parade]

I had no idea Nicole was allergic to strawberries. That’s interesting – I’ve known a lot of people with nut allergies, which I wouldn’t be able to handle at all (I love nuts, especially peanuts). Anyway, I have no idea what this interview was supposed to promote, so I suspect Nicole was just shilling the vitamins, right? Perhaps this came on the heels of the now widespread consensus in medical circles that vitamin supplements don’t do anything and should actually be avoided? Keep shilling, Nic!

“…and have them shoot them all up in your face. That’s the most thing, yes…”

She seems like a nice enough person, but this interview comes across as so fake to me. It’s the usual celebrity, “oh, I eat pretty much whatever I want, then just enjoy being outside with a game or two of tennis!” She forgot to mention that she gets plastic surgery and Botox several times a year. I can’t imagine a less likely candidate for a promotion of natural health and vitamins. She has ruined her looks with so much tinkering. It’s a shame, because I think she could have aged much more gracefully. She has the bone structure.

      +1.

And between this an Aniston’s recent Parade “interview,” I remain convinced they do nothing but PR generated puff pieces designed to be an innocuous and inoffensive and easy to comprehend as possible.

When I saw these pics, I, too, was thinking that Sunday looks like Keith and Faith looks like Nicole…the girls are adorable! They seem like a happy, sweet, family! Nicole’s hair was looking really bad a while ago and has seemed to improve a lot….I wonder if it really was the vitamins…I may have to check them out!

    • Decloo says:

Please remove those horrible Shirley Temple socks from your children’s feet, Nicole.

    • Charlotte says:

The picture of Faith snuggling into Nicole as she kisses her, Faith looks so much like Bella at that age. There’s a pic of almost the same pose and the likeness is striking. I wonder if these girls have met their brother and sister?

  4. Suze says:

Her hair looks much better this color and with a little of its natural texture back. Heh – maybe she can influence Keith to let a bit of his own natural texture back, eh?

The kids are very cute – the little one’s coloring is much like Nicole’s. I like that this sighting is rare and typically they preserve the family privacy. I actually feel bad looking at these photos, you can tell the kids are not used to the click of cameras and the glare of the spotlight.

That said, I don’t believe a word of that interview. Nicole eats everything? She is not that strict? She is relaxed about cooking and eating? I don’t think any of that is true.

  5. Flor says:

Boring. The two most important things are traveling and sleeping.

  6. paola says:

I am never keen on taking tips from celebrities.. because most of the time they know nothing about real life, but I agree on this one. Sometimes in the winter I feel weak and sleepy and the only thing that helps me to feel more energetic and lively (apart from eating loads of vegetables and fruit) are vitamins. The other thing i do everyday, before breakfas, is drinking a warm glass of water with fresh squeezed lemon juice. That really makes the difference for me.

  7. Nope says:

B.S. There’s nothing better than eating your daily servings of fruits and vegetables. The rest is only profit for supplements producers. And some recent research points out that supplements can even be dangerous in the long term. Of course if someone is starving to keep a super-thin body, then supplements can be necessary, but this is another story that shouldn’t be confused with health and a healthy lifestyle.
This interview is a shady commercial at best.

    • IzzyB says:

My doctor said for healthy people vitamins are just expensive wee.

I have kidney problems so I have to take multivitamins on top of a lot of fruit and veg (and the odd sneaky donut) to get anywhere near my RDA. It’s only rarely that they have any real benefit.

CoQ10 is a good supplement for tiredness though. It’s part of the AcetylCoA complex in glycogen breakdown so you’ll release more glucose and be more alert and active with more CoQ10 (sorry, science degree).

  8. The little one–with the curly hair–is so adorable. That’s all I got. I find these kind of interviews a little boring–I get that there’s only so much you can say, but once you’ve read one of them, you’ve read them all.

  9. Bex says:

I love the idea of a “wellness” company paying her Botoxed face money to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The kids are cute, love the curly red hair!

  10. serena says:

I think both look like her, maybe Faith more but they definetely resemble her old face! lol must be strange for her.

  11. LadyJane says:

    Looking a bit pregnant….

  12. SnarkySnarkers says:

No idea about the vitamins Nic is farting about however, I totally disagree with the article linked. If vitamins do nothing then why do they mandate that pregnant woman take them? That article is a little ridiculous. One of the studies it cites says that multi vitamins do not reduce stroke or heart attack risk. Wow. Really? Did we need a study to tell us that? Of course eating from the right food groups must be included to prevent heart disease.

Nowhere in any of the “studies” does it cite the type of multi vitamin tested. They aren’t all created equal. For instance there are many different forms of B12, folic acid ect. Not all of the forms are readily absorbed by your body therefore rendering them mostly useless. Cheap, grocery store, multi-vitamins probably do nothing but to rule them all out is absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible. Since I’ve been taking a magnesium and D vitamin for a month both of my blood levels have come way up. So, Im concluding that vitamins do actually work based on my own “study”. Not ranting at you Kaiser, just in general about the article.

    • Nope says:

I agree that when you have specific nutritional needs due for example to malabsorption deseases or temporary conditions such as pregnancy or menopause, you can benefit from specific supplements that your doctor may suggests. But here we have an actress – who doesn’t have any medical background – who thinks she can give advice on such an important and scientifically controversial topic. She says that to keep yourself healthy and in shape all you need are balance and generic supplements. On a regular basis. She doesn’t say ” if you need them, according to your health conditions, and only those you need and have some chances to be absorbed. But please before taking them go to your doctor and ask for some professional advice since I ‘m not an expert in this field”.
Many people are already abusing of these supplements, they need no encouragement from celebs.

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

Yep, totally agreed. I was commenting specifically on the article Kaiser linked at the end of the post. You should definitely go get some lab work done if you think you are deficient in anything, go over the results with a doctor and go from there.

    • Lemon says:

In pregnancy a vitamin is recommended due to the increased nutritional demands as well the particular need for folic acid. Multiple studies recently have concluded that vitamin supplements are unnecessary for most people and potentially harmful. (I will admit that I do take a prenatal and multiple supplements at this point). It has been found in the past that vitamin E supplementation increases certain kinds of cancers, so this is not coming from nowhere. Now people are taking megadoses of Vitamin D, often for no clear reason, so it is not clear what the effects of this will be in several decades.

      • Siddhi says:

I am 41 years old and I have been taking various supplements for the past 10 years and, apart from using treatments from my own line of natural cosmetics, this has helped in taking care of ageing signs (no wrinkles whatsoever, not even superficial, no sagging, no age spots, no nothing.). So, this new fad on vitamins and supplements not working is just that, a fad. Of course, people abuse them and they end up with some interacting or rendering the whole process useless. If you do your research and double-check with a physician, vitamins are a good thing. Of course, I eat healthy food (as in normal food) I cook myself and I exercise everyday, so that helps too. Give credit where credit is due, she is not advocating new agey stuff, she is advocating common sense.

      • taxi says:

My MD prescribes Rx vit D 50,000 IU per week to increase my calcium absorption as I’m unable to use Fosamax, Boniva, Forteo, etc.

  13. Ari says:

theyll have to pry my supplements from my cold dead hands lol

  14. Vee says:

Their girls are adorable. I like these two, happy they seem to have found some normalcy in their lives as a family.

  15. JenD says:

I like them as a family. And I like Nicole’s hair color – it looks good with her skin tone. The kids are adorable.

  16. Nicolette says:

I’ve stopped taking vitamins because I never really felt any better with them. And the size of some of them! They’re like horse pills that I’d break in half and still have a hard time. The only time I ever took vitamins that really made me feel great was when I was on pre-natal supplements. My hair felt great, my nails were growing in fast and I just felt good. I stocked up on the ones my doctor was giving me and kept taking them for months after giving birth.

  17. taxi says:

She’s shilling & this is the photo shoot where she brought her own photogs.

  18. Size Does Matter says:

Is this what a normal family looks like when leaving the airport? Did Nicole and the kids go pick Keith up or were they on the flight too? Do they stop to change clothes on the way out before hitting the paps? Ugh. This is an image harder to attain than size four nine days after having twins.

    • taxi says:

This shoot was staged & re-staged by NK, with her chosen photogs, and paps & travelers were kept out of the way. There’s been negative commenting for a few days, in other publications. Witnesses said Urban wasn’t pleased.

  19. Hautie says:

Well I am going to mention this… I have been taking a dose of daily Biotin (b vitamin) for the last year. And it has been amazing for my hair and nails.

I started taking it because my nails. They just were not the same long hardy nails, I had enjoyed for decades. My doctor told me to take some biotin and the nails would get the boost they needed.

Well it boosted the quality of my nails. Along with drastically boosting my hair.

  20. here's Wilson says:

I take B-12 religiously! gives me tons of energy 🙂
and I also take physician prescribed prenatal vitamins… does wonders for hair and nails!

  21. RHONYC says:

those cuties are real-life versions of Strawberry Shortcake & Holly Hobbie!!!
    super adorbz! good 4 Nic!

  23. Aw, this was an incredibly good post. Taking the time and actual effort to make a top notch article… but what can I
    say… I put things off a lot and don’t
seem to get nearly anything done.
