Slumdog Millionaire star Dev Patel stopped in to chat with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last night, and both of them were cute as buttons. Dev was obviously thrilled to be on the show, even exclaiming, “I’m 18 and I’m on this show. I shouldn’t be doing this!” After that Jon pretended to grumpy because Dev is 18 years old and still has, in Jon’s words, “that new car smell.”
Dev Patel is also joining the cast of Indian-American director M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender. The Last Airbender is based on a children’s television show. UPI has more:
Hollywood filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan has cast “Slumdog Millionaire” star Dev Patel in his upcoming, live-action movie, “The Last Airbender,” Variety.com said.
The film, which is based on an animated Nickelodeon television series, will co-star newcomer Noah Ringer, as well as Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone and Jessica Jade Andres.
Production is to begin in mid-March in Greenland, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said. The first picture in the planned three-movie “Airbender” series is expected to hit theaters July 2, 2010.
Shyamalan’s films include “The Sixth Sense,” “Unbreakable,” “Signs,” “The Village,” “Lady in the Water” and “The Happening.”

Dev has a kind of relentless enthusiasm, and you can just tell he’s having the time of his life as he attends all of these big Hollywood functions. He seems like a really sweet kid – I hope he stays that way.

Who doesn’t love Jon Stewart?
@ Syko – AMEN! 😉
Agreed. I LIVE on Jon Stewart. And Colbert is pretty good as well. His segment “The Word” kicks ass.
But Stewart is the only one I know that can grab the fact that Cheney was in a wheelchair on Jan 20th and spin it into comedy gold. =)
Hmm, I should go and watch that clip now.
Nice exchange between the two. I’d like to see a few interviews with the children in the film. They were, along with the cinematography, my hook 🙂
I only got to catch the tail end of the interview last night, and was totally bummed. So thanks for posting it! Also if you’ve never seen Skins you should check it out, he’s great as Anwar. The whole cast is great to be honest.
I just saw ‘Slumdog’ today and thought he did a great job. He’s adorable, as were the kids in the movie.
Slumdog is an amazing movie, and Dev is perfect as Jamal. My only complaint is that Frieda Pinto seemed too old for her part, which didn’t make sense since she was obviously the younger of the three children. And Jon Stewart is the best thing on television – next to Joel McHale, of course.
My friends met him clubbing in sheffield and apparently he’s really sweet and they got mega amounts of pictures. So jealous i decided not to go out that day 🙁
he’s adorable in this interview.
