Last fall, Blake Lively was named as the new face of L’Oreal. I thought it was a pretty good match-up – Blake has great skin and pretty hair, and she has the kind of accessible prettiness that would work well for a mass-market cosmetics company and campaign. I thought Blake working with L’Oreal was a lot smarter than, say, her work with Chanel or Gucci. Her “look” just doesn’t work for them, but that’s just my opinion. Anyway, here’s the new announcement: Blake’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, has just been named the face of L’Oreal Paris Men Expert. Aw. His-and-hers beauty brand endorsements!
Looks like now Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are both a part of the L’Oréal Paris family! Ryan has followed in Blake’s footsteps and secured a gig as the newest spokesperson for the French cosmetics brand. The 37-year-old actor was just unveiled as the L’Oréal Paris Men Expert Spokesmodel, starring in an ad campaign shot by photographer Kenneth Willardt.
The L’Oréal Paris Men Expert products include moisturizers, exfoliators and facial scrubs designed especially for men. The actor said in a press release, “I feel honored and excited to Join Men Expert, a brand that represents the essence of modernity, edginess and technology.”
For the campaign, Ryan posed in a series of serious-looking photographs—some in color and some black-and-white.
In one shot he gives the camera a smoldering gaze, in another he straightens his tie, and in another he’s running along a misty path. But our favorite pic has to be the one of him standing in the pouring rain. Very dramatic!
Ryan makes perfect sense for this ad campaign—he’s handsome, yes, but he’s also got the whole family ties connection with wife Blake also being a L’Oréal Paris face. You know what they say—couples that campaign together, stay together.
I’m including a behind-the-scenes video of Ryan’s shoot for L’Oreal below. I’m also including some photos of Ryan and Blake on the New Orleans set of Mississippi Grind yesterday. Anyway, is this a good pick? I’m not so sure. I mean… I’m sure this was a good choice from Ryan’s perspective, considering his film career just isn’t heading where it should be (he’s had a succession of bombs over the past few years). Some L’Oreal money is just what his bank account needed. But are there really dudes out there who are like, “Man, I want to have skin like Ryan Reynolds”??? Personally, I always think Ryan’s skin looks strangely orange, like he either overdoes the fake bronzer consistently or he’s always wearing cheap foundation.

I just think the whole thing is so vapid. Yes they’re a good looking couple. But they’re kind of boring.
bland is the only word I think of when it comes to these two. Only doing it for the $$$ because their acting careers are over.
I’d take a second look at their ads but it wouldn’t entice me to buy L’Oreal.
I thought to be a L’Oreal spokesperson you had to be “worth it”?
These two were made for each other. *snore*
For Blake and Ryan it’s a great choice. Both of their careers kind of stalled out, so building a lifestyle and endorsement career is their best option.
I’m iffy about whether it’s a good move for Loreal. I think Blake is a good choice. People might not admire her career, but I think they’d be very happy to look like her. Ryan is a tougher choice. I think he appeals more to women than to men. I think someone who men liked but whose image wasn’t at odds with a cosmetics line would have been a better choice.
THIS!! they are on some circa “Bennifer I ” steeze
He looks ok (dead eyes though) she is pretty enough but both very boring.
This tickles me. He is perfect for L’Oreal though, his orange metrosexual-ness is right up their street. He can even advertise their bronzer! This is what he gets for marrying a fame ho*. I cannot wait for her lifestyle brand launch, Gwyneth is no doubt cackling away at the gauche L’Oreal drug-store-ness of her “competition”.
*super kitty claws out today, these two just irk me.
orange metrosexual-ness is hilariously spot-on!
Have you ever seen this man in person? I have and I can tell you that up close and personal he is a nice looking man, handsome is not a good description. He is NOT ORANGE & He has a healthy, wholesome appearance. He is very, tall with light brown eyes , a pretty smile & is a lot bigger than what he photographs. This is why at 37 his look has not changed much since his 20’s, Handsome fades but that healthy looks last a lot longer. You might want to hold off on the ugly comments if you have not seen him.
I think that this endorsement is good for his bank account but won’t help his acting career or how he’s perceived by the public.
🙁 Poor Ryan Reynold’s career. *pours out some malt liquor for it*
I think The Green Latern sealed his fate.
The last movie I saw him in that I liked was ‘Safe House,” though I think it was Denzel Washington that made that film enjoyable.
Indeed it did. Even though he wasn’t the only fault in the movie, he couldn’t carry the movie as the leading man. His Hal Jordan was just a douchier(?) version of himself. Like I’m still pissed about that $8.50 I’ll never get back. I’m not even going to get started on Blake Lively in this movie.
I wonder how many mirrors they have in their house.
They have got to be the most boring couple in Hollywood. I still find it hard to believe she’s only about 25 or 26, she looks 35 and kind of meh.
Why all the negative comments? Why are they a boring couple? People posting on home computers making light of 2 people who are making millions working in careers they have chosen & are successful in YES, just listen at the comments he is butter face, his career is stalled, this is all they can do is push cheap cosmetics, even the writer thinks she should not be the face of Gucci or channel. All these opinions about 2 people whom if you ignore will still continue to do what they are doing working and making millions. The comments denote pure envy…. jealousy is wanting what someone else has ENVY is not wanting anyone to have what you want!! Ask yourself why does it bother you that they are rich, decent looking and living a life that you may wish you had, dissing their lifestyle will not ENHANCE yours!!
Ryan looks lovely with scruff
I was totally all about that in Blade Trinity…and then he did the Green Lantern and I went, “…I’m going to make you a plate, here’s your bag, go home and get out of my house.”
One movie you don’t like and you write him off??
The scene at 0:50 makes the commercial go into LOL territory. Ryan Reynolds in the Rain with ’80s music!
A jobs.. a job..
it’s not like she’s good for many roles. Pushing cheap cosmetics sounds about right.
As for him? yawn. ..his moment has passed
kaiser you are dead on with this assessment. blake is girl next door maybe its maybelline, ok its l’oreal cute. the high end makeup brands need a model like uma or charlize who is truly stunning for their target demographic.
I just can’t with his douche face. Something about him bugs me. Like he thinks far too highly if himself. Not that great an actor and always seems to come off arrogant.
Watch almost any of his smaller or independent films. He’s a very good actor. See almost any of his TV interviews. Self deprecation at its finest.
He seems like such a dbag.
I don’t understand all the “boring couple” statements…I guess, if they were falling, drunk out of clubs, pictured with white powder on their noses, or in the tabs daily for cheating, then they wouldn’t be “boring”…they seem like a nice, ordinary couple, and whats wrong with that? I feel bad that Ryan’s career isn’t doing well, he was fantastic in Buried! He needs more roles like that…
They seem pretty drama free, despite the best attempts of a certain tabloid and a blind item site. He has been working on several films in the past year that seem a lot more promising than the big budget comic book fluff or romcoms he’s done.
I’d say he’s done pretty well for himself considering his relatively humble beginnings, tbh. He’s not from L.A. or New York and his family was not in the business. He started out on a TV sitcom and worked his way through a myriad of B movies. He’s still around and working with respected writers and directors because he has actual talent. It’s too bad more people have seen his lesser films, like Green Lantern (which, if we’re being honest, no actor could have saved), than his work in films like Buried, The Nines, Smokin’ Aces, Definitely, Maybe, etc.
I didn’t know L’Oreal had a men’s line (how did I miss Hugh Laurie!?), but now I do. The pictures are nice, but for cheesy fragrance adverts I’ll take his Hugo Boss.
IS THIS A JOKE?
I would totally look like Blake if I could, & isn’t that what a make up brand should be going for? Ryan…meh.
He has such a butter face.
