When I last checked in with Karl Lagerfeld, he had lost his mind and brought Walmart-chic to the latest Chanel show. He had designed some hideous Chanel sweatsuits and thrown them on Cara Delevingne, and all of the fashion ladies were eating it up. So, what’s he up to these days besides looking to Walmart for inspiration? Oh, the usual. Karl gave another brilliant interview to The Sunday Times UK, and he talked at length about his favorite British girls: Cara, Posh… and the Queen!
Karl on Victoria Beckham: “She is an example of a woman who has had a successful life. She sold 80m records, she has a stunning husband and beautiful children, and she has had real success in her career as a designer. So who does better? [He claps] And she’s very sweet and very funny. She can look cold, but she is not, she’s cheerful. I love Victoria Beckham.”
On Cara Delevingne. “She’s a character. She’s the Charlie Chaplin of the fashion world. She is kind of genius, like a character out of a silent movie. I would see her better in a silent movie than a talkie because she over-accents the movement. Girls admire her like they used to Kate Moss. They all want to be as free as her.”
The Queen and other royals: “Nobody does the job better than she does. She is never ridiculous; she is flawless. For this job, in our day, she is perfect. She’s not supposed to be a fashion icon who is changing fashion. The Duchess of Cambridge can do that. Kate is chic in a classic way, but sometimes, with her Philip Treacy hats, Camilla is wilder. I know people who know her. Apparently, she’s full of wit and spirit.”
And of course, Choupette: “She is the center of the universe.”

I really do think Karl has grown soft in his old age. He used to be a much harder and harsher man. But he’s become more sentimental, more emotional I think. Choupette broke him down! Now he sees love everywhere. He probably spends half his day watching cat videos on YouTube. He probably quietly donates his time to homeless shelters. Anyway, I like what he says about the Queen, and I even like what he says about Camilla (I’ve heard that too, that Camilla is a lot of fun with her friends), but I still don’t get the Cara Delevinge thing. To me, she’s just the flavor of the year. She will never be as iconic as Kate Moss.

I’m sure the Queen is concerned what this pathetic old man says.
I legit LOLed at “watching cat videos on Youtube all day!”
Yeah, that was a great line.
Me too! Hahaha!
+3
I agree that Queen Elizabeth always looks perfect. I actually think she dresses with a lot of flair and color and pretty detail within the very narrow confines of what is appropriate for her age and role.
I think Camilla always looks frumpy and disheveled and in desperate need of a better bra. You can throw an interesting hat on top of that, but it don’t see it as much help.
some girls just have boobs which attach low – look droopy under clothes, but really aren’t
That could be, but couldn’t she wear a bra that moved them up a little? Just for me? Lol
I agree, GoodNames. She knows how to dress for what she does, she has a look she likes, and she sticks with it. I love her bags. Sometimes I wish she’d try a different pair of shoes, but she’s 87? so she’s not going to change now. There were photos of her going to Edward’s birthday party in a limo and she looked really bright and chipper.
Speaking of boobs, HM has quite a set and I remember reading that there was a lot of tailoring done to minimize the royal girls when she was younger as it would not do to see a monarch with . . . cleavage.
Ha! That’s funny. She was a very pretty young woman, I think.
Reading this during lunch, I almost spit out my soup. Thankfully I never look in the region of Camilla’s cleavage.
The older Camilla gets, the more she looks like one of those Monty Python dudes in a dress. Yikes.
Uncle Karl with that big ol’ baby belly. He looks like Elsa Pataky at the Oscars.
I think he means Queen the band.
In which case, yes.
Hahaha! Good one!
Freddie was a god on earth. Also those singlets.
Hoot!
I love Karl — would love to hang & gossip with him.
At least he gives credit where credit is due. QEII is a boss!
Is he angling for an OBE?
LOL.
Really? I think he’s just being polite. It’s like that previous comment where he praised Kate somehow (I’m sorry, I don’t remember what it was he said) and criticized Pippa. He feels free to criticize some and obligated to praise others.
Yes, the Queen is Flawless.
Seriously, she is.
Camilla is fun, I like her. Loved her outfit at the races yesterday 😉
“I really do think Karl has grown soft in his old age.”
You mean since last year when he said Pippa Middleton had a “hard face”.
Truman Capote.
Choupette! That’s what cats do to you – turn you into a pile of loving goo (while they are attempting to eat your toes and scratch your eyes out).
My cat prefers to head butt my face and drool.
Karl, on the other hand, is always ridiculous with his pontificating. Go away, Cryptkeeper. You’re creeping me out.
I think Karl has gone soft. He was queen of the bitchy put down.
I only pay attention to Karl Lagerfield interviews for two reasons:
1) Professional bitchery, and/or
2) To find out how Choupette is doing
At least I got to hear about Choupette!
Me too! Lol. I love Choupette!
I love the subtle shade at Kate. I actually like Camilla but I don’t know anyone who would say she has any kind of notable fashion sense. Yet he calls Kate ‘chic in a classic way’ which is a Karl putdown if there ever was one and basically calls Camilla interesting. And he loves the queen! I’m with him all the way there. I love Karl. He is frequently offensive but he entertains me. It’s not like he pretends he is anything other than a character in his own life play. He has no desire to be real.
I think Cara Delevigne is being singled out because she is controversial and has so much personality. She’s classic tabloid bait much like Kate Moss. Unlike Kate Moss I think she has a lot of interest in being a celebrity though. Kate was happy to be a fashion icon. Cara wants fame.
Hey, Queen Elizabeth is flawless. Seriously.
I bet Camilla is fun. (Cmon …..what stories she has…..)
While he strikes me as ridiculous, everything in this story rings right.
