Amber Heard did a photoshoot for DT Spain where she dressed up as a 1950s pinup. She’s pretty much doing Marilyn Monroe here, right? There are a few other possibilities, but that fake birthmark and those platinum ringlets scream, “Marilyn.” This is a mistake for any actress because they all try this and (for the most part) fail miserably. I don’t mean to disrespect Amber, but do not invoke the Marilyn. Did she get talked into this shoot by her agent or the stylist? Maybe she thought no one would notice stateside because this is a Spanish magazine.

If I was a famous actress (no danger of that), refusing to be Marilyn would be one of my rules. I’d refuse to wear Marchesa, wouldn’t associate with Scientologists, and would never try to look or act like Marilyn. She is impossible to replicate, but they all still try to do it. One actress who hasn’t tried to invoke Marilyn: Angelina Jolie. (Note: Some of you have pointed out Jolie’s blonde wig in Life or Something Like It.) If Amber truly seeks to out-Jolie the Jolie one day, following this example would be a good start. What’s even stranger is that Amber did this same theme in a 2012 shoot.

I will say this: Amber looks absolutely stunning in this shoot. She just doesn’t look like Marilyn. Without the wig and the birthmark, she’d look like Amber. That’s a good thing. Embrace it. Have you seen the pop-punk, pink-ombre photos of Amber on the set of her new movie? Those pictures are far more interesting than yet another Marilyn Monroe spread.
