Here are some photos of Bruce Willis at this weekend’s 21st Annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in LA. Bruce posed with Christina Applegate and Halle Berry! Bruce and Halle are old friends – they’ve worked together before, and they seem genuinely tight. Halle has long been involved with the Revlon Walk/Run, and Bruce has been close to Lily Tartikoff for years. Anyway, during the event, Bruce spoke to People Mag about the littlest edition to his family, his newborn daughter Evelyn Penn, his fifth daughter overall. He also talked about how women are “smarter” than men and whether he would eventually like a son:
He was already dad to four daughters, but even Bruce Willis was surprised when his fifth child was born — and it was another baby girl.
“[We] didn’t know what we were gonna have until the baby came out,” the actor told PEOPLE at Saturday’s 21st annual EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in Los Angeles of welcoming his daughter Evelyn Penn.
And while having a new baby is “pretty cool,” having a household full of women hasn’t affected his views on who should rule the world.
“In general, I think women should be in charge of everything. They should be running the country,” Willis, 59, says. “Halle Berry should be president. Women are just much smarter than men.”
He adds, “Even if I had five boys, I’d still feel the same way.”
Although he’s loving all the ladies in his life, the actor admits he would welcome the experience of having a son one day. “Eventually, I’d like a son. But I’m okay now,” he says.
You know I don’t like it when men talk about “wanting a son,” or “needing the boy” or whatever. But I think Bruce was probably just answering the question (which he must be asked all the time), “Would you like a boy next?” He doesn’t seem to really care, I guess. And Emma, his wife, is only 35, so maybe they will go for another kid.
As for Bruce’s whole, “Women are just much smarter than men” thing… I find those kinds of statements patronizing, even if they come from a genuine place. Some women are smarter than some men and vice versa. There are real feminist fights to be had in this world, and I don’t believe we should waste our efforts on fighting over generalizations about which gender is smarter.

There are plenty of smart men out there too. I think a lot of men want women to take charge because those men don’t want responsibilities lol. They’d rather hang with the boys while their wife balances the check book and makes sure the bills were paid on time. Please…it should be 50/50…all decisions and responsibilities.
We should have to bare and raise children as well as run the country, that way men will have more time to watch baseball games and drink beer.
I’m kidding. I appreciate the sentiment and far prefer it to “women should be in the kitchen while men run the country” but I do agree with Kaiser’s overall assessment–it’s a bit patronizing and mansplain-y when it’s coming from a dude.
Oh hell, he’s right. The smartest woman is always smarter than the smartest man. I wish women would believe in their natural superiority.
This is not to say there aren’t some very bad women but measure for measure the female brain is better.

I used to like Bruce. Until I made the mistake of googling him. He has a terrible reputation in Hollywood. He was no innocent in the on set dramas with Cybill Shephard and she has made same revelations about him. Kevin Smith idolised him until he had to direct him in a film. Even Stallone who has been a friend for decades finally had enough with him. The cockiness isnt act with Bruce, he actually is a cocky dbag.
He is a well-known jerk.

But this is probably very true since a reporter came out and stated (quite emphatically) that Bruce was NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer.

He looks like my dad quite a bit, so I have this weird, soft spot for him. I wouldn’t want to work with him though, and really, I wouldn’t want to work with my dad either lmfao.

Christina Applegate is awesome. Bruce not so much, but maybe he’s mellowing with age? Do condescending p#icks mellow, or do they just get a bit limp over time?
I don’t think that women are smarter, but that they would handle things differently. I believe there would be less war if women were in charge. That said it’s probably healthier for a country to let women and men run the country equally.
The problem is women are not represented equally in the United States government. It’s still, by and large, the Good Ole Boys Club.
A Good Ole Boys Club voted in by women (who comprise the majority of voters in the United States). Women have a ton of legitimate beefs here in the U.S. — under-representation in government isn’t one of them.
Just vote the men out. Easy.
Star – genuine question: does the electorate select candidates? And are there always women on the ballot paper there to be voted for? Because in the UK men (overwhelmingly the rather macho world of local politics is more attractive to men) tend to select other men, and we often have all-male choices. And the hours and lifestyle of politics also tends to favour men, because it’s antithetical to family life. It’s just not as simple as “vote for more women, then”. The world of politics isn’t set up that way, over here.
And that’s without starting on the issue that people tend to vote for parties rather than candidates, so it isn’t as easy as voting for a gender.
K – Yes, we have electoral primaries in which voters select candidates to run in the general elections. At least one woman is usually on such ballots, at least where I live (Minnesota).
People in the U.S. also tend to vote for party rather than candidate, but my point is that female voters CAN vote more female candidates into office — hence the “Good Ole Boys Club” complaint isn’t really valid.
I can’t imagine the sort of crazy, dramatic fights we would get into with Russia if Halle Berry were president.

Neither is better there are great women and men…and not all women are smart or angels so its all really silly.
I think women should take the reigns from men, who have done an extraordinary job of screwing up this world.
I recall hearing Bishop Desmond Tutu say that exact thing, some years ago, possibly on Oprah Winfrey’s show. He said that “it was time for the women to take over.”
I agree that those statements come across as patronizing. Women have long run things behind the scenes and should be more acknowledged for our leadership abilities. BUT I’ve worked in enough female run offices to also recognize that some women get butt hurt over every damn thing and a good gender balance can help cut through the crap sometimes.
Absolutely. Worse than that, it’s basically given men a licence to act irresponsibly and incompetently because ‘that’s just the way we are’. Whereas women are obliged to take responsibility for everything just because they’re ‘better’. It’s really no different from Victorian notions of the ‘angel in the house’. It’s obliging women to be the moral guardians of men, when in fact women – and men are just people. Some good, some bad, most of them a mixture.
Agreed. I also work in a mostly female field (bartender at a sports cafe. Most of the servers are ladies of multiple ages, bartenders are split, and we even have a couple ladies working in the kitchen), and I have to say that unfortunately there is a LOT of catfighting, drama, backstabbing, and fighting over the guys that do work here. There are a few of us who ignore it all, but the majority of them are sucked in. Even those in their late twenties and thirties.
I owe Bruce and Emma an apology. I thought FOR SURE they would do IVF with pre-implantation gender selection to make sure they had a boy this time around. But nope, they let nature take it’s course and now have a sweet baby girl added to their family. I respect that they didn’t feel the need to mess with things and just let what would be…be! If he REALLY wanted a boy they could have guaranteed it, so I think the boy thing wasn’t that important to him as people assume it would be.
After our second boy, my husband was ready for a girl!!! He said he needed a child with some sense in its head. He would see how the girls acted at school functions and parties compared to the boys and was ready for some calm. Of course, number 3 was another (and our last) boy. Now he wouldn’t trade it for the world tho.
That’s funny because I have seen how a lot of the girls in my sons class act (he’s 10, almost 11) and good GOD I’m glad I had sons. Obviously, not all girls act like they do, but they do seem to be in the majority.

It’s annoying but then I have 2 sons and I hear crap about needing a girl, so it goes both ways. And for the record, I am thrilled to have my two sons and there will be no more babies! 😀

I don’t see what’s wrong with men saying they want a boy, or women saying they want a girl. Or men wanting daughters and mothers wanting sons. It’s all fair enough, isn’t it?
Bruce needs to spruce up his wardrobe and try those yoga pant thingy’s like Christina is wearing; he’d for sure make a statement about gender equality.

Men and women do things differently and I’d say we tend to do things in a more complete and all-encompassing way. Im not sure if that’s smarter or if the world would be better, but its an interesting thought.
He means well. I’ll give him points for that kindness. But benevolent sexism is still sexism.

At 59, It’s probably time to quit fathering children anyhow. He’s going to be 80 when this one is 21, he should be playing with grandchildren at his age. I just don’t get these old farts that have to keep reproducing.
I don’t think either gender has the monopoly on… anything. I think we’re just stringently socialised from a very early age to behave otherwise. If women were more powerful, and being likable less hugely sinful for women and interpersonal aggression as approved of as it is for men, I think the world would tick on fairly similarly, in all honesty.
