Amal Alamuddin’s casual style in London: fashion-forward hipster or just fug?

FFN_Alamuddin_Amal_FFUK_051314_51410035

Lord, you do not know how happy I am that Amal Alamuddin is finally getting pap’d. I was so tired of using the older photos of her. These are pics of Amal arriving at Heathrow on Tuesday – I guess she flew to London from LA, where she’s been staying at George Clooney’s house. She flew solo – no Clooney! Which might be a harbinger of things to come, because I’m finding it especially hard to believe that Clooney will be okay with spending half of his time in London with her. But we’ll see.

I’m trying to read Amal’s expression. Is she happy to be photographed? Is she peeved? I don’t think she’s peeved. There seems to be a smile playing around her lips. She’s fine with being photographed, as she should be: she’s going to be photographed a lot more from here on out. God, just imagine if she gets knocked up. It will get crazy.

For the first time, I feel like I’m getting a better look at her face. She’s a very attractive woman with very “strong” features, isn’t she? Clooney likes that – Elisabetta Canalis had similarly strong features. As does Cindy Crawford. As for Amal’s casual style, well… I’m not into it. Yeah, she doesn’t have to dress like a lawyer all of the time, but surely a 36-year-old human rights attorney doesn’t have to try this hard to find something attractive and stylish to wear? Everything from the waist up is fine with me – I actually like that cardigan a lot. But the trashy boyfriend jeans and the clown shoes just scream “HIPSTER” to me. In a bad way.

Amal was hiding her engagement ring from the paps for the most part, although at one point she lifted her hand to brush back her hair and some photographers got the money shot – go here to see. I’m including one pic where you can see the side-view on the ring, but all I can see is Amal’s terrible manicure. YIKES. Gurl, get Clooney to pay for your manicures. PS… her phone is PINK. PPS… THOSE SOCKS.

    Just fug.

    • Sabrine says:

She’s dressing for herself, not for anyone else. Good for her. She has her place in the world and can easily withstand the onslaught of criticism about her appearance. She is a lovely, strong, and intelligent woman. I think she will be able to maintain her own identity too.

      • ds says:

Yeah, but the question in the title was about how this ensemble looks, fashion vise. Has nothing to do with her as a person. She’s pretty for sure, obviously smart, I just think this combination is not skilled. And it looks like she was trying but ended up wrong. What’s wrong with thinking it’s fug?

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

There’s nothing wrong with thinking it’s fug. It IS fug.

I have to say though-I have those exact same sunglasses in green so yeah, I like her shades but that’s it.

      • homegrrrl says:

She looks cute. Her casual style isn’t developed, it’s not her focus, thank God. I like her ironic odd clothes. Chalk one up for nerds!!

      • Dubois says:

Agree. I like how she’s dressed. She seems to have a quirky style. I’m into it. It’s a welcome relief from the LA bimbo style.

      • la_louisianne says:

Did anyone else notice that her sunglasses are the same as Emily Blunt’s in today’s post about Baby Hazel? Cute shades…. not so cute shoes.

      • paranormalgirl says:

I like everything except for the shoes, which don’t even look comfy. And i don’t like twee socks, but that’s just me. Give me day off and with the jeans uncuffed and a pair of Vans, that’s my kind of outfit.

    • kimber says:

Yup. Truly dated and fug on top of that.

      • samanthalous says:

+100 I am over the gushing of this woman.

      • Decloo says:

Those shoes are a NO. Those socks are a NO. What is she? Little Orphan Annie? I know these fug oxfords are trendy now but I can’t think of anyone who can pull them off (except maybe Charlize Theron with her skinnies.)

    • Detritus says:

I’d wear everything except the shoes. If she had cute flats or sandals it would all look better. The shoes are the hipster statement, and those awful little socks.

      • Stormsmama says:

It honestly looks like she’s wearing Clooneys shoes!

      • kri says:

That shoe/sock combo should be glad they are being worn by a “top international barrister” because they definitely need a good defense. And I don’t think this woman has a problem being photographed at all. George is smart.

      • Rachel says:

Yes. As a 35 year old attorney (seriously Kaiser what does a profession have to do with comfort???), I can say, I dress like this quite often. But those shoes are not for me. I wear my oversized cardie and ripped jeans with my leopard print ballet flats.

      • Tiffany :) says:

I agree. The shoes make her feet look massive in relation to her size.

      • JenniferJustice says:

Yes. The shoes are the fug. They remind me of Meg Ryan and the clunky shoes she always wears that make her walk flat-footed. Not sexy at all. i like the rest of the outfit but it seems a bit “young” and “try.”

    • Nessa says:

The outfit would have been perfect with a pair of skinny jeans and a cute pair of ballet flats. That would’ve looked so good, and more age appropriate for her.

      • Lexie says:

I came to say the exact same thing! A more tailored jean and some nice flats is the ticket.

Also, she very clearly is enjoying the attention. I wonder how this will all pan out. I’d think once the novelty wears off, having Clooney for a husband may actually be a detriment to her standing among her professional peers.

      • homegrrrl says:

I detest ballet flats. A girl can walk in oxfords with massive treads, and I know this is borderline 90’s fashion, but that’s all coming back in really for the sake of comfort. Massive timberland treads are back in for a reason. I can’t stand uncomfortable shoes for street wear, that’s just so “look at me, I’m a masochist for your approval”.

    • Fue McCormick says:

Dang … this chick is skinny like a skeleton and needs a manicure.
      Yikes …

    • Pandy says:

I would totally put this outfit together. i love it needless to say.

      • Tara says:

I agree. The Age of Fug has been heavily marketed since 1997. It’s opposite land where Ill-tailored but tight fitting clothes are combined with boring textures and gross colors. And so many people bought it, there’s a sea of homogenous Fug. I like that she mixes it up. It’s funny that people hate 90s fashion. At least it was generally comfortable, less exploitive and either tasteful or interesting.

  2. Dani2 says:

It’s just fug, I came in here prepared to somewhat like a hipster-fug outfit but it’s just fug, I’m sorry.

    • booboobird says:

For a lawyer who represents Assange and Tymoshenko, that is one ugly casual outfit. Yea ok, she also wants to be comfortable, but this is abomination.
And I’m soooo over his whole engagement and just in general over this couple. I am not even mildly curious. Ok, I was curious whether the outfit is fug or hipster fug. That’s it.

  3. kcarp says:

I think she looks ridiculous. And who are these people talking to that they can’t get off the phone long enough to leave the airport? Are we supposed to believe George is talking her through her first pap stroll?

    • M.A.F. says:

From what I remember, it’s what they do, pretend to be on the phone so they won’t have to engage the photographers. It’s some celebrity trick. Forgot where I learned it, some documentary.

      • Rianic says:

I do that to avoid the kiosk people at the mall!

      • megs283 says:

LOL @Rianic – I do that too if I’m alone! If I’m with someone, I usually pretend that we’re having a heated “argument.”

      • TG says:

Lol. I do that to avoid a whole host of people. I think her phone call was set up deliberately for that reason. Not so she doesn’t have to engage but so that she can breeze nonchalantly thru. You can clearly see she loves the attention.

  4. Badirene says:

Her fashion choices confuse me, so very much. Fug, all day every day.

  5. Dingo says:

Just fug and not even hipster – just strange!

  6. SophiaJames says:

I think that’s just her casual look. It could be a lot worse. And I think it’s kind of refreshing to see a woman not trying too hard.

    • Dinah says:

I think the point is that she’s trying hard to look like she’s not trying hard (which it appears she is) Those goddamn slashed denims… but what evs, to each her own.

      • AG-UK says:

Exactly as she doesn’t appear to me to be that hip ala Kate Moss.

      • lola says:

I don’t think it’s that at all – her style is a bit different for us Americans but it seems to be on trend in London so I think that’s the difference. She’s got the frame to wear more body conscious things so I kind of like her quirky stuff even if I wouldn’t wear it.

      • Dani2 says:

@lola I’m a Londoner and this look is not on trend here. There are very few people who can really rock the shoes she’s wearing and they go for a very different overall look to what she’s sporting here. She’d have been better off with a pair of flats or tennis shoes.

      • lola says:

Hi- I’m going by several posters below who see it on trend. Not sure who’s right maybe it’s not regional maybe personal then but I like her shoes. She’s a pretty woman who do sexy or sophisticated but I find it sort of charming she goes the quirky route.

  7. Allie says:

Not impressed. Also, looks like she’s enjoying the attention. Of course

    • JulieM says:

Agreed: Anyone who doesn’t see she’s lapping up all this attention needs an eye exam. She is loving the limelight. I have no problem seeing her using the paps whenever she wants to. Lots of celebs do, of course. And that’s what she is now.

      • FLORC says:

She’s been bubbling over with glee in almost all shots now.

Her intelligence aside she is exactly like all of Clooney’s ex gfs. Bad style, Ok beauty, Known in certain circles, but unknown overall. Then Clooney swoops in, gets them a stylist, clothes shopper, etc… I’m willing to bet those whispers of rumors that Amal wants more of a celebrity profile has some truth to it.

I think he likes changing woman then gets bored and moves on. Why he’s engaged now seems more like his age is making him want a spouse for hard medical decisions.

    • alexc says:

If she didn’t enjoy attention she wouldn’t have got involved with Clooney. I think she’s a bit of a fame chaser. Nothing wrong with that I guess lots of high powered people do it. It just makes you take her a little less seriously as a person.

    • lola says:

I think she looks bemused by the attention and prefer that too someone acting upset by it.

      • Lucy says:

agreed!! Just because she’s not upset by it doesn’t mean she craves it! I think she prefers not to take it so seriously.

  8. blue marie says:

I’m not a fan of the big fold but she was riding on plane, might as well be comfortable. I do like her shoes though.

    • Chinoiserie says:

Yes she probably was not thinking about style when she decided to dress for a plane ride. She is not a celebrity so she is not used to looking perfect all the time.

    • Tatjana says:

I love the shoes. I don’t like anything else. She is very pretty, though. Prettier than Elisabeta or Cindy. Not that it matters, but it’s just an observation.

      • Sassy says:

Forgive me, but I don’t think she is pretty at all. Distinguished perhaps. Stately. Not a beauty by any stretch.

    • Just Passing Through says:

      I love the shoes.

  9. Truly says:

I always thought Cloonzy needed AA, but this wasn’t the AA I was thinking of.

  10. GiGi says:

    What is happening here????

I actually like her clothes in these pics – but the shoes? socks? nasty grown out baby pink acrylics??? Just. so. no.

    • Kali says:

I can’t rip on her for the acrylics because my nails are appalling (I view mine as an extra source of protein 😜) but from the ankles up, I really really dig the outfit. I’m just not a personal fan of the clumpy oxford (?) man style shoe look on women. I’m enjoying what a baller she’s coming across though in the whole engagement story so far so she’s cool enough to pull it off, IMO 😉

    • LAK says:

It’s my experience that corporate types in London dress really badly in their down time.

All that time spent getting ahead, wearing bespoke designer suits specifically to have a ‘corporate’ image, and their casual clothing is horrendous.

They just don’t care because no one *they* care about sees them in downtime.

Her clothing doesn’t surprise me. Infact, every time she’s been papped on down time, even holidaying with Clooney, her clothes have been horrendous. Burn, burn horrendous. Her casual evening clothes are alittle better, but not by much.

      • GiGi says:

That’s very interesting! We are business owners, Stateside, and I almost always feel a pressure to look put together because I never know when I might run into a client. She’s not inappropriately dressed, but her choices just seem juvenille for both her age (same as mine) and position. It will be interesting to see how/if her style changes the longer she dates Clooney.

    • LadyMTL says:

Yeah, I like everything from the cuffs of the jeans up to the top of her head. If she had just put on a pair of simple flats – or even nicer oxfords – I’d be stealing the entire look. But I just can’t with those shoes and socks, they’re beyond ugly.

    • flavia_deluce says:

I agree with you 100% GiGi! The outfit is fine and totally 12-hours on a plane wear (comfy sweater and jeans) but oh my lord those shoes.

  11. India says:

    ITA. Fug.

  12. don't kill me i'm french says:

All i see is her ugly shoes but she looks casual

  13. lucy says:

“Gurl, get Clooney to pay for your manicures. ”

Wait…… what? Surely a 36-year-old human rights attorney can afford her own manicures.

  14. Kali says:

Is first class really that comfortable that you can wear jeans for a flight?

    • AG-UK says:

YES once you pay $10k for that ticket you can wear what you like.

      • Kali says:

*Sigh* One day….. she says to herself as she plans her long haul flights in cattle class wearing the closest actual clothing equivalent to pyjamas you can get that isn’t literal pyjamas….

      • Madi says:

They give you pyjamas in first class on British Airways

    • paranormalgirl says:

Sure. Comfort is key for travel

  15. Kiddo says:

Two diametrically opposed looks. I don’t mind either, but not together. I don’t like the pink nail polish with anything, but I guess it matches her Hello Kitty ensemble.

  16. frisbeejada says:

I don’t normally comment on what people wear, not that interested BUT my gawd even a fashion imbecile like me can see she looks like an emotionally stunted 16 year old in that get up, I’m actually embarrassed for her – cringe….

    • frisbeejada says:

actually that’s not fair on 16 year olds – apologies – I know a couple of teenagers who look immaculate – with no budget…

      • Truly says:

“emotionally stunted” – You may not be too far off. She is engaged to Cloonzy after all

      • M.A.F. says:

This is true. I teach high school students and some of the girls are so well put together at times, it makes me look like a slob.

  17. don't kill me i'm french says:

She looks very very thin here

    • TG says:

Yes. I was wondering if the thinification, to use one of Lainey’s terms, had begun for Amal. I haven’t seen too many pics so not sure if she is always that thin or what. Also from certain angles her feet look gigantic and it looks like she is wearing clown shoes. Having said all that I saw these photos last night and thought she looked good other than for the toddler socks she is wearing and I don’t liked jeans that are torn to shreds. Also as some have said above this woman is no different than Clooney’s exes in that she absolutely loves this attention.

    • Size Does Matter says:

That’s all I could notice, too, even more than the hideous shoes. Maybe because I’m not happy with the state of my weight these days, but the slimness of many ladies in recent posts really stands out to me. I’d be curious to know what they eat on a daily basis. If you look that thin in a photo, in person you must look gaunt. And this isn’t “concern trolling” (whatever that is) or “thin shaming” (if that’s a thing). Just an observation.

  18. lisa2 says:

She had a airport escort.. nice.. is that new or just for all celebs or people dating celebs.

For some reason I thought her casual dress would be more casual chic..

    • Penny says:

IME it’s pretty normal for anyone who’s going to be greeted by the press as they leave the terminal/airport. Makes it easier for everyone, less disruptive. My brother in law is CEO of a small non-profit. Occasionally the press are waiting for him at the airport wanting a statement about something, and he usually ends up with an escort in that situation. So it’s just for celebs or well-known names.

    • AG-UK says:

You can also pay for meet/greet. The head of our company refuses to walk thru on his own as IF ANYONE WOULD KNOW HIM.

  19. Annie says:

At first glance, kind of cute, except for the jeans. Ar second glance, just fug as “ds” said.
    Those socks…

  20. MAM says:

    I love everything…and I have a pink phone too¡¡ go AMAL¡¡

  21. PHD Gossip says:

She looks like a boy. Slim hips. Way too thin.

  22. Sarah says:

I don’t mind her style apart from her shoes. She look pretty normal to me like how lots of women I know dress on the street. She looks comfortable which I guess is the main priority when you are on a flight. I actually like that she has a “normal” style like she hasn’t been made over by a team of Hollywood stylists, yet.

  23. DanaG says:

Some poor clown s missing his shoes. I can’t believe a 36 year old woman thought that was a good outfit. The top part is fine but the jeans, shoes and socks should be thrown away. Amal better learn fast what she wears will be picked apart. Between the Hello Kitty skull shirt and this ensamble she won’t be making anyone’s best dressed list. She really has lost weight? By the time they get hitched there will be nothing left of her if they get that far which I doubt.

  24. Dhavynia says:

Jeans are fug IMO BUT I rather see that than some overly tight outfit like the Kardashian robot wears, that is offensive to my eyes

She’s an attractive woman and I think she can do fine with casual even if it looks like this?

Wasn’t she on holiday? If I was on a getaway with Clooney the last thing on my mind would be my acrylic fillings, just saying

  25. Bshg says:

I am not against this look per se, but I think it doesn’t suit her at all. It makes her look even gaunter than she is. Personally, if I had her money I would not be seen in those jeans if not when just out of the gym. However, I like that she doesn’t give a damn how she looks. She is a powerful, intelligent woman at the top of her game and shouldn’t be judged by her appearance. I just hope she won’t get starstruck and neglect her career.

    • Belle says:

Just because her style isn’t great doesn’t mean that she doesn’t give a damn about how she looks. I think she looks like she’s trying too hard, which would mean she does care about how she looks.

    • Julia says:

She gives a damn. She gives a whole lot of damns! This is not a dumb woman. She is engaged to one of the biggest stars in the world and is very much aware of all the attention it is giving her. It looks like she is trying very hard to seem hip and while 36 is not old by any means, I think someone in their early twenties is more suited to this look.

  26. Grumpycat says:

It’d the shoes. If she wore some flat thong sandals with this or just casual flats it would be much better. I hate those clunky 90’s shoes.

  27. Hmmm says:

The whole thing is like a big, pathetic, stupid PR stunt. No way they are for real. Clooney is a desperate looser who gets more and more embarrassing. Don’t know why she needs this, lawyers don’t benefit from pics in the tabloids.
Besides, she looks very unprofessional here, basically posing for the photogs.
    Stupid!

  28. Liz says:

I guess I’m on my own as I see lots of women in London dressed like that with the boyish jeans and flat shoes, it doesn’t look strange to me at all. Most of all it looks comfortable for travelling in.

    • Sarah says:

I am in London too and I just said the same she looks like a lot of women I see on the streets. I think Americans expect a more dressed up look.

      • danielle says:

Idk, I’m American and that looks like a sensible travel outfit. Never understood wearing tight jeans and sandals on planes. Its uncomfortable and my feet get cold. Also, who wants to be barefoot when u take your shoes off in security?!

    • Fifi says:

Im up north and this kind of look is not necessarily common but its not uncommon either. In fact my daughter must be pretty fug at times then since she likes the boyish jeans, t-shirt and Docs (boots though) and imo she looks far from fug.

    • magpie says:

I think she looks pretty on trend. This isn’t her best “look” but I like her style in general.

    • retromancer says:

I was just coming here to say this. For London, this is an extraordinarily common and ordinary look. Definitely not hipster in the least, just… Ordinary. Remarkably ordinary.

      • scylla74 says:

Yeah that’s true. Just was in UK for a short trip some weeks ago and for example Topshop is all over this look.

      • retromancer says:

@scylla For sure, man! Topshop would probably be the #1 shop to get the ripped boyfriend jeans from, as well. The cardigan seems a touch more Zara, though, but the DMs? Also very Topshop/Oxford Street/Carnaby Street. In fact, I’d dare anyone to walk down Oxford/Regent Street and not see a London local dressed similarly. I feel as if the UK (and London specifically) has a very different approach to casual and street fashion to its American counterparts.

      • Dani2 says:

I live in London and the soccer mum up top + grunge at the bottom combo isn’t common lol. The contrast is my problem with it, a nice leather jacket instead of the cardigan would’ve better or she could’ve gone for a more feminine pair of oxfords or just plain tennis shoes or plimsolls.

      • retromancer says:

We must hang around v. different parts of London, because I honestly do see variations of this look (in its base form) quite a lot. I’m not saying it’s a good look (far from it, really), just really goddamn ordinary and unexceptional.

      • Dani2 says:

@retromancer Oh yeah, I definitely see different variations of the androgynous/grungy look but not the soccer-mum-up-top part, it’s not a horrible look when you look at it more than once, I hang around the Shoreditch/Hackney/Putney areas a lot and androgyny is a big thing in these parts but it’s just the mummy cardigan that doesn’t go with the rest of the look imo. I really don’t care what she’s wearing though lol, it’s not that important.

  29. Rhea says:

Pink manicures and pink phone? Surprisingly girlish and different from the image that I have in mind about her the first time I heard about Clooney’s fiancee. And someone here said she wore some Hello Kitty outfit?!

  30. mkyarwood says:

    Owned those shoes in ’96.

  31. poppy says:

i would love to take a nap in her sweater.
there’s nothing wrong with those shoes and socks if she was a 15yo goth grrrl.
everything (minus the comfy airplane sweater) there is something never to be worn together and certainly not by a grown woman.
    baby blue aviators? ugh.

    • Cora says:

I don’t like her sunglasses, either, but here’s a fun fact … Amal is wearing is exact same baby blue aviators that Emily Blunt is on the other thread.

(Didn’t Amal and Emily and their respective men all have dinner not long ago? Maybe the ladies went shopping together.)

      • Tara says:

Aviators: I don’t get the love. Almost everyone looks awful in them. Must be a totally different sensibility that thinks they look good.

  32. Rie526 says:

She looks skeletal. The baggy crotch is NOT helping.

  33. QQ says:

I Love it TBH it’s slouchy and comfortable and soooo wish I could wear that shit… Her steeze is kinda cool to me

  34. CAJ says:

She looks like she’s lost a good 8-10 pounds based on how much room she has in those jeans.

  35. Madi says:

Yo go girl! It is your human right not to get Cloonised to look like ghosts of girlfriends past. You do your own thing even if it is channelling your inner Dexy Midnight Runner

    Say come on A-Mal,
These things they are real and I know
    How you feel
Now I must say more than ever
    Things round here have changed
    I say, too-ra-loo-ra, too-ra-loo-rye-aye

  36. Esmom says:

Wow, yikes. Present day soccer mom on the top, Grunge-era teen on the bottom.

Maybe her casual style will evolve the way Stacy’s did?

    • Cheryl says:

Agree. What is most jarring is the disconnect between the top messages and the bottom messages. In this woman’s case she also has shoe disconnect. I think a few of her other photos revealed the same issues. It just adds up to a kind of identity confusion for me.

  37. nofkksgiven says:

minority opinion – i like it – its just like whatever….

  38. Cora says:

That first pic is concerning me. She is scary, scary thin.

    • TG says:

Yep. I commented above that it looks like the thinification of Amal Alamuddin has begun. Just like it started for an already thin Kate Middleton the day they announced her engagement.

  39. M.A.F. says:

I saw these photos yesterday and the first thing that came to my mind was “she couldn’t push her own luggage?”

As for the outfit, ugh. I’ve hated the boyfriend jeans since the term was coined. Which, by the way, is a lame ass term, call them what they are-baggy jeans for girls. I wore those jeans through out the late 90s with my boxers sticking out (aww, fond teenage memories). I agree with the assessment though, everything on top is cute but jeans and socks no. I do like the shoes however but should be worn with a different outfit.

And lets face it, I’m sure she doesn’t mind getting photograph.

  40. GeeMoney says:

This woman is not a celebrity… I don’t care what she wears.

  41. videli says:

I find her ten kinds of hot.

  42. Jayna says:

I like that she’s keeping to her style, whatever that is. She looks like someone who was very comfortable on a trip back to the UK unlike some in sky high heels and tight jeans ready for their photo-op.

  43. Jayna says:

@Kaiser, you said it’s the first time you are getting a better look at her face. If you want to really see her face in a live close-up setting, People Magazine posted a link of her giving a discussion on Egypt and their laws. Live she looks a lot like Anne Hathaway, and she’s much prettier when when speaking and not just in still photos Lere’s the link. She starts at the 4:07 mark and goes through the end of the video which is about three minutes with her, with a moderator making a statement in between some of her comments. I would call her striking in the video and definitely very articulate.

    http://www.people.com/article/amal-alamuddin-video-london-barrister-in-action

    • nofkksgiven says:

      i like her voice

    • Sara says:

Sorry, but she isn’t any more articulate than most lawyers I know, or even students of law. And this is a video, so one can expect preparation. As to her looks, the lighting is very good here, but she looks just normal to me, esp. for an Arab girl. She resembles Anne only in that both have an awkwardness to their features, the eyes which pop out, for instance.

  44. Abbott says:

She definitely digs being papped. I remember one of her first pap strolls in NYC she was doing the Miranda Kerr spin and smile.

    • Sarah says:

Not sure what she is supposed to do. If she didn’t smile people would say she is grumpy and unhappy. She can’t really win.

      • Lucy says:

Right?! I think she’s handling it really well.

      • Beatrice says:

Yes, Sarah, I agree. She’s in a position, much like Suki Waterhouse to Bradley Cooper, where, as a non-celebrity dating a mega-celebrity, she cannot dodge insufferable criticism. If she’s evasive and looks annoyed she’s cold and awful; if she’s smiling and open she’s a famewhore. Even if she was really popular amongst the public for a moment she’d be met with backlash eventually. As you say, she really cannot win.

    • Abbott says:

Nothing wrong with her liking the attention. I’m just saying its obvious when she’s doing pageant spins for the camera. You do you.

      • Sarah says:

I think that’s your interpretation of what’s going on. Actually there really aren’t that many pictures if her hence why the same pictures are being recirculated. According to some site she closed down her twitter which apparently was just her tweeting business stuff and she isn’t on any other social network begging for our attention. So I don’t really see this attention seeking person you speak of,

      • Abbott says:

I’m pretty sure that’s what I physically saw her do with my eyeballs. Walk in circles, look over the shoulder, hold the car door open extra long while looking directly at the camera and smiling. How else should it be interpreted? She digs it. So what?

  45. Hissyfit says:

Fug! That shoe and sock combo needs to die! And lmao at her trying not to look like she’s enjoying the papz and the attention she’s getting now.

  46. OTHER RENEE says:

A grown woman wearing shredded jeans looks ridiculous.

  47. ReenieJ says:

I didn’t realize she was so ridiculously thin. She’s a stick figure. And she’s really wearing Dr. Martens? I didn’t know they existed any longer. All in all I suppose I don’t really mind her style — I just can’t figure out how it fits in with Clooney??? Its some departure from his hot, bimbo cocktail waitress routine.

    • kibbles says:

I was just about to type this. Amal is not George’s type at all. I don’t really care how she dresses. She is not a Hollywood actress or a supermodel so I don’t expect her to look impeccable for every paparazzi shot…I’m sure George will pressure her to hire a stylist and look more glamorous sooner rather than later. I wouldn’t be surprised if by the end of the year she has a totally different and improved look. What these photos only tell me is that she is a drastic departure from the women George usually goes for…not just in terms of intelligence but pretty much every other quality including her look and style. Yes, she has strong features but I still don’t think she is George’s type. That is why I think George has ulterior motives for getting engaged with her.

      • Belle says:

Why must it be that George would pressure her into hiring a stylist? If her style does change, how do you know that it isn’t her choice?

The comments about Amal being more intelligent than the ‘other girls’ are getting kind of old. If she is so superior in every way to the women that George has previously dated, then how is it she seems very much like the others? How could George ‘pressure’ such an intelligent, independent, confident women into anything?

      • Belle says:

        *woman

    • gg says:

Dr. Martens have been made since the 1940s and are still going very very strong. They are maybe the most practical shoes on the market, for everybody.

  48. aenflex says:

Everything is fine but the jeans, socks and shoes. The rest I like. That RING.

  49. Louisa says:

I need that sweater! Anyone have any ideas where it’s from? Pass on everything else…..

    • Belle says:

Agree… love the sweater, pass on everything else. Would love having it in a couple of different colors. 🙂

  50. LadyS says:

This outfit is fug! I think she especially looks dumb with those socks. I don’t know what this is all about, but it seems try-hard. On another note, Clooney better marry her because that will be so humiliating for her. She’s not some wannabe nobody arm candy. Clooney better get this right!!

  51. Cody says:

I like the jeans, but I am sorry she is to old for the ripped look. My teenage daughter likes to wear them, but she can’t even wear them to school because of a dress code. I like the shoes but not for her, cute flats would be better. I am sure she will soon have a stylist to help her. It will be My Fair Lady again with George as Professor Higgen. Different girl, who has a ring this time, but same show.

  52. Abby_J says:

Not a fan of ripped jeans. Ever. I dislike them even more on someone who ISN’T currently dancing with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch.

I do kind of love her shoes, though. So very 1990’s. I can’t tell if they are Dr. Martens, but around here they appear to be making a comeback. I’ve seen a LOT of kids around here wearing them. I still own a few pair from back in the 1990’s. Not sure I’m ready to pull them out and start wearing them, again, though!

  53. kcarp says:

I think this was a staged pic with many many more to come. Clooney must have some big plans up his sleeve if he needs this much publicity.

I am so tired of staged pics. We need more topless royals in a mini-cooper after a knock down drag out in an elevator.

  54. Lucy says:

Call me crazy but I dig the outfit. It’s not really what one would expect to see from a human rights attorney, and I think that’s kinda cool. Plus, she seems comfortable in it, so…EDIT: Also, why is no one talking about her great hair???

    • Jayna says:

I’m with you. It’s not even my style, but I don’t see anything wrong with it in the least and looks very comfy for a long airplane flight.

  55. Eleonor says:

If it wasn’t for the slashed jeans that could be me going to the supermarket… I know I am a mess… so all I have to say she looks faboulous!!!

    • GByeGirl says:

Yeah, I pretty much wear this exact outfit (including the man-shoes) except I wear dark, uncuffed fitted jeans.

  56. Beatrice says:

Wow. I am interested to know what all the commenters on this site look like. And how perfect they all must be to be judging every single detail of another woman. Her nails. Her weight. Her socks. The color of her phone. My god, I’m almost embarrassed for the commenters as I scroll down through the comments.

This woman is extraordinarily educated and has a resume that accomplished women and men in her field can only dream of. She represents some of the most controversial, relevant people in the world and advises/advised Kofi Anon on Syrian conflict, amongst myriad other jobs as a barrister. I wouldn’t judge any woman wearing this, but, with her credentials, if she wants to wear a pair of chunky oxfords and put her phone in a pink case I’m not going to judge her. She’s a total badass and as a Master’s student I find her accomplishments really inspiring. And 36 is hardly too old to be wearing pink. What makes wearing pink “hello kitty,” anyway? Especially when it’s offset by boyfriend jeans and androgynous shoes? Jesus ladies, maybe consider your own wardrobe and overall appearance before you cast stones, hey?

    • Brown Sugar Babe says:

@Beatrice – she is educated yes and I agree you shouldn’t judge but it’s laying it on thick to say she has “a resume that accomplished women and men in her field can only dream of”; she simply doesn’t. There are far more intelligent, sophisticated and accomplished barristers in the HR field than her. That’s not hating, it’s just fact.

    • Emily C. says:

It’s consumerism, and the way consumerist culture rides on women’s backs. We’re all supposed to be “fashionable” and wear exactly the right things and never the wrong things and care about our appearance at all times. That will make us buy more. And we can never be exactly right with this, which is even more perfect for consumerism, because anxiety = buying more stuff.

It’s all a bunch of nonsense.

    • Cody says:

@Beatrice-Amal ‘s mom, is that you?

    • Sara says:

I’m not convinced she’s all that accomplished as I have never heard of her prior to this engagement. Anyone with savvy in her field is well-aware how far connections go in some parts of the world. With regard to her accomplishments, I’ve yet to see anything of note. She does not ‘represent’ the clients you mention, but is merely a minor player among many more prominent ones. I have yet to come across tangible work that can speak to her extraordinary talent.

With regard to her loving this attention, it’s patently clear.

    • TG says:

@Beatrice – Do you really aspire to representing murderous criminals? She is. Nothing more than a defense attorney representing your local gang member only her clients can pay more and are high profile so she gets the attention.

    • cleo says:

oh please that’s what we do here.

    • Suze says:

You’re right. We should immediately shut down this site and attend to more important matters.

  57. Wren33 says:

I can’t believe ripped jeans are back in fashion. I’m not going to make fun of her because so many celebrities seem to be wearing them. Why?????

  58. Penny Lane says:

Girl needs a fill on those nails

  59. gg says:

Can’t abide the Coldwater Creek old lady sweater with ripped baggy jeans. yikes.

  60. Aqua says:

I have no problem with her clothes but for a woman she has the worst taste in shoes.

  61. Aqua says:

O.K. forget about the shoes ,can we talk about those socks?

  62. Belle says:

This site reminds me of Bridget Jones, constantly reminding everyone how important her crush is… “He’s a human rights lawyer, you know.”

    Yes, we know! 😉

  63. Maggie says:

I don’t mind what she’s wearing but it just shouldn’t all be worn at once. Either the shoes or the sweater have to go. Pretty lady though!

  64. Emily C. says:

Maybe she’s comfortable in them. Most women actually don’t care about what they’re wearing on an airplane, or in public generally. Jeans, shirt, comfortable shoes, that’s it, let’s go.

I hate the constant dissection of what other women are wearing all the time. It does not matter. She’s a lawyer, not a model, it is no part of her job to be “fashionable.”

  65. Sam says:

I am starting to think she is more hype than anything else. Outside of her job, which is more mid level from what I am hearing, what exactly is special about her? Not seeing it yet.

Then again, how hard is it to impress a guy who is used to cocktail waitresses and former pro wrestlers? I am not sure his standards are all that high to begin with. She could be book smart but street stupid for all we know.

  66. MissNostalgia says:

Just plain hipster fug. Narrower jeans and some flat shoes or sneakers would put that look right immediately.

  67. mj says:

I don’t understand why so many people are throwing shade at her. She’s a very accomplished woman who probably threw together an outfit and is enjoying the publicity of her engagement. It’s exciting times for her. She landed the man who would never marry. Why does it make her lesser for gloating? I’d also argue that 30s is not old. Maybe in some parts of the States? Where I live, her off-duty style is totally acceptable for a 30-something. Though IMO we need to toss out what’s “acceptable” for any age. Let live and live!

  68. Ravensdaughter says:

Oh please, she does look like a wannabe hipster from the waist down. Dress consistently with your age and profession, Amal.
Her looks? She is a beautiful woman, not a Barbie doll.

  69. kyu says:

I can’t believe some people are commenting on her nails, cell phone color, smiling too much/little, too thin etc etc. This is going way beyond commenting on liking an outfit or not.

  70. LaurieH says:

I rather like the look for the most part. I am a big fan of the baggy, ripped boyfriend jeans look. The only thing I don’t like is the wide cuff at the bottom and the Herman Munster shoes. A thinner rolled cuff and some pointy flats and I’d give it a 10.

  71. Lela says:

Do people really think she is attractive?

She’s very average looking and the ugly clothes day in day out are not helping.

  72. Guest says:

I bet she isn’t even talking to someone on the cell phone and just pretending to talk ,to make it seem she is important. You know she is an international human rights lawyer , who is engaged to George Clooney.Sorry, I am very cranky, I just spent two hours in line waiting to file some court documents in Chicago , now that’s the practice of law, not very glamorous .

  73. browniecakes says:

Before awards season Girl needs a stylist. Or won’t Mr. George Alamuddin be doing those anymore?

  74. smee says:

Get rid of those jeans & shoes and add a pair of black pants/leggings and some nice shoes and she would look great.

  75. Kelly says:

Why does it even matter what she wears? I’m sure she has more important things to do than worry about her outfits.

  76. MaggieR says:

When he was in Telluride, everyone who saw him said he was tall, thin, and very handsome. In the candid photos that the teenagers got – showed him standing next to size 1 teenage girls, and he is really really thin. If she is that thin compared to him, she is scarey thin. Also, I am sure she is really nice, but I am really tired of this slamming women from all of the so called “sources.” Humanitarianism starts at home. And I think human rights attorney is somewhat a wrong definition. Her focus seems to be criminals. And a few barbaric ones at that.

  77. AmalStyleFan says:

    Whatever,

I’m the same age and I dress like this. I love her style. Should I start shopping at Ann Taylor? I will wear what I want, when I want. People think I’m 25. Guess what? I don’t care–I don’t think it means I’m “trying to be young”. I am young! I don’t feel “old”. I feel like myself, like I always have. And I will dress however I choose, according to my own idea of what is stylish/looks good/etc.

  78. Nibbi says:

Whatever. The look is overdone and she’s having a lot of fun doing the pap-walk.
I hope her law career doesn’t suffer too much from being HollywoodstarletClooneyhoochie-ized. Cuz frankly she already looks a lot less serious than even a week ago.

  79. lucy says:

I think she’s lovely. But not in this attire!

Those glasses re AWFUL on her.

and the ripped jeans and those shoes are nassssstttyyyy ~~~ on anyone. Geee-rossss.

  80. PHD gossip says:

Did anyone notice that she had Three Airport Personnel accompany her out of the airport. What a diva.

    • John says:

I see two, the fellow pushing her luggage cart (those carts are free at Heathrow, btw; in the US, the machines take credit cards) and the bird in the red jacket, who works for the airline. Alamuddin is a very prominent professional in London, it’s no different from a State Atty General having an escort to their car.

      • Chiara says:

This is not correct. She works for a private law studio and has not any connection with public administration. She may be an important frequent flyer to the airlines company but other than that, I think she never had this kind of extra help before her engagement.

  81. Amulla says:

I like the ripped jeans look .

I think many people are surprised that George Clooney did not pick some 20 year old, blond Hollywood starlet for a wife. Instead he picked a brunette over 30, not even an actress.

  82. Fan says:

I just miss the Italian Queen.

  83. jane16 says:

I find her sense of style atrocious, but can we talk about her career? Why is she always referred to as a “human rights attorney”? I looked at her web page which states she is on some kind of human rights board someplace, but does anyone know what she has done in that direction? Her webpage lists her famous clients like Gadaffi’s hatchet man and the King of Bahrain, (and the wikileaks douchebag), but if you want to be known for being a human rights activist, shouldn’t that info be what you’re advertising?

  84. John says:

I love that she is comfortable in what she’s wearing, is incredibly bright and successful, and couldn’t care less what anyone else thinks. Seems to work for Clooney.
Oh, and I think she looks fine.

  85. sc says:

I really dislike the idea of scrutinizing this woman’s fashion and style and beauty like she was one of the celebrities we usually discuss, who willingly entered a world where those things are key :/

    • Sara says:

Actually she did willingly enter the world of celebrity and seems to be lapping it up. I would also wager she had a role in much of the hype that has been published about her. Criticism and scrutiny are called for in this case.

  86. dh says:

She looks like Anne Hathaway mixed with Nigella Lawson. The outfit is terrible, sweater looks cozy though.

  87. kcarp says:

What is it about Hollywood that people think its acceptable to engaged after 4 months. In the real world people would be saying WTF. Also what is he over 50? AARP age? What is she in her 40’s? I am sure in another 4 months she will be prego with twins and no one will be saying WTF.

  88. Amulla says:

I just noticed that picture of her hand. The skin looks much darker than the skintone of her face. Did she have her skin lightened???

  89. Suze says:

Eh. She’s certainly striking and attractive – but the pink acrylics don’t go with the rest of the look.

And I fall down on the side that says she is just eating up the attention. I don’t see “bemusement” or “tolerance”, I see flat out glee. What the heck, she may as well enjoy it, it will follow her everywhere for the duration of her romance with Clooney.

  90. Gelina says:

Fashion forward or fug? Neither. What the local village idiot would wear? Definitely!!!

  91. Aqua says:

i think she’s beautiful and is relaxed in these photos.

  92. zyfoo says:

she looks like CONCHITA WURZ !!!

  93. Sara says:

OMG those shoes are awful. And the SOCKS! I just can’t.

  94. Chiara says:

OMG She loves the attention. They way she behaves and looks at the cameras. No wonder since she, as a lawyer chooses meticulously cases that draw lots of public attention. She loves the camera.

    • Jayna says:

She had better watch out. That kind of obvious behavior got the exes x’d out. He thinks she’s different. If she keeps looking for the cameras and smiling, his infatuation will go down to zero if she thinks she loves being papped,

  95. LT says:

Not my choice of outfit, but flying sucks and you might as well be comfortable. Ballet flats hurt my feet and socks are better in the security line, so I don’t blame her. As for the phone – my case is also bright pink so I can find it buried in my huge purse. No shade from me there!

  96. k&k fashion says:

Not bad !!! But she can do better than that
