Here are some photos of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds at the premiere of his big film, The Captive. This movie is getting pretty awful reviews, so it’s good that Blake showed up at Ryan’s premiere and made a spectacle out of herself. At least it changed the story. I actually didn’t realize something until Lainey pointed it out – Blake is really trying to make herself and Ryan into the new Brangelina. They even pose the same Brangelina-esque way on the Cannes red carpet.
As for the dress… Blake wore Gucci Première and Ryan was in Gucci too (they have his-and-hers Gucci contracts). Blake wore Gucci at the Met Gala too, and I kind of think she should have traded dresses between these two events. This full-on ball gown would have been much more at home at the Met Gala and the slinky caped number from the Met Gala would have been much better in Cannes. Also: Blake’s jewels are Lorraine Schwartz. She’s wearing over 180 carats, apparently. At first I thought she was wearing the necklace back-to-front, but I’m not so sure.
So, thoughts overall? I think Blake is try-hard for sure, and while this dress annoys me, I can’t really blame her for going all out. My biggest problem is that massive hair piece bun thing. It overwhelms the whole look.

Don’t love the dress, but it’s certainly not overkill for Cannes. I hate that recently some people have started showing up to gala premieres in the same sort of thing they’d wear to a showing at Sundance. It’s nice to have a few events left where you actually get to see some haute couture and expensive jewels.
I agree, Cannes is the place to go all out. I do not like her, but I admit her look is fabulous, but Cate Blacnhett in a tight blue gown at a different event was looking like a goddess.

Don’t people just wear jeans at Sundance? It’s an independent film festival during winter. I have yet to see gowns being worn and I would question the person who would.

She calls the paps regularly and sells products with pap pictures. She was with Leonardo DiCaprio (I still think this was a PR stunt-relationship). She actively uses the media and paps which, in her defense, many others do too. I don’t think you can compare her to the Kardashians, she at least has (kind of) a career. But she definitely hustles hard and wants fame. In my opinion she behaves very famewhorey.

I like her All American Blonde style, it’s kind of a budget Kim Bassinger – Farrah Fawcett meets wannabe Martha Stewart throwback. (Yes, she’s had the Hollywood Nose & Boobs 2 for 1 Special, but the difference is that her vibe is not porny.)

I love how people are saying that calling the paps doesn’t necessarily mean said caller is a fameho. If we were talking about LeAnn Rimes, we’d be fameho’ing her into the ground. That being said, Blake Lively = Fameho and, honestly, I’m quite shocked that she still gets such high profile designers/jewelers/etc. to dress her. What is she doing exactly?
well, Clooney and Brad Pitt ‘sell’ products, too. And so does Angelina. And Scarjo. Nearly every celebrity has endorsements and many do them overseas so that their american image/brand isn’t tarnished by that fact or association. Goopy did endorsements for a couple of very budget, low brow companies a few years ago-but in europe. I’m just saying that I don’t think Blake’s endorsements are good criteria for determining famewho*e status. Most of the women celebrities of any stature have done makeup, perfume or clothing endorsements, for example. She’s ambitious and makes her drive known, vs. keeping it more low key and acting like she isn’t interested.
Settled? She chased him, not the other way around. When they were filming Green Lantern, she hit on him, but he was unavailable (still married). The moment he was free/separated, she swooped right in. They seem happy and totally into eachother. I don’t get the hatred for this girl. She’s pretty, she’s built, she has great fashion sense and she’s down-to-Earth. She hasn’t played any amazing roles yet, but neither have half of Hollywood. She’s not an insufferable narcissist like Scarjo.
Why don’t Brangelina wannabes ever copy the substantive parts of the power couple: I.e. charity work, global causes, etc.? There’s more than red carpet cleavage to make a power couple.
The charity work, and in terms on HW only, actually producing/directing/acting, etc. It also helps to be more interesting in general, which for HW Blake and Ryan aren’t. Love them or loathe them, people pay attention to Brangelina. The reaction to Blake and Ryan is usually ‘who?’
Yeah you’re right. Even less charity oriented types can do more creative work within HW to create buzz. Sexy red carpet pics only get you nnoticed for so long (like 7.5 seconds until you’re ushered off to make room for the next celeb).

Yeah, I saw these pics on another site. It was a sweet thing to do and Blake looks so fresh-faced and pretty. People always rag on celebs to do more but then sh-t on them for being fake when they do. There are many celebs I can’t stand but I’ll never hate on anyone (not even Sean Penn or Chris Brown) when they do charity. Whether it’s for selfish reasons or not, it’s important.

yeah, and if we’re going to talk about charity work and PR, Angelina was the one who took up third-world country charity work at the advice of her PR team when her reputation was floundering from drug use and messing around with married, or otherwise, taken men. It was all for publicity…in the beginning. I’m sure it affected her sincerely and she honestly does want to help now, but don’t think it was her idea or her initiation. It was not.
I feel like “Brangelina wannabes” is an offense people arbitrary lob at any couple that poses together on the red carpet. I don’t see how these two are comparable to Brad and Angelina in anyway beyond the fact that they’re, you know, posing together on the red carpet. POSERS (quite literally).

I agree, the gown is gorgeous and I think it fits her beautifully. I like the look overall but then I am a drama queen myself. I think the huge bun compliments the drama of the gown without competing with it.

I absolutely love Blake’s dress. She looks gorgeous. I don’t like the bun. too big; it is so perfect at the back but messy underneath. She didn’t really need the necklace. It doesn’t do anything for the dress. Ryan looks meh to me. I think he should have worn a black tie; the white tie looks unfinished. It took me a few seconds to even see it at first.
I don’t have an opinion about their marriage. He just seems very blah and they are not a fascinating couple together. Cannes is that place where a couple waking that particular RC can make a Powerful statement. All that press and those stairs. They are a statuesque couple, but them standing together on that carpet is not as impressive as it should be.
White tie is the most formal evening dress code. Black tie is only semi formal, so I suppose they were going for the entire “ballroom” look.

White tie also means a waistcoat & tails and he’s not in either. That’s what doesn’t work for me — he looks like he doesn’t know what ‘white tie’ means (and judging by how few men got it at the Met it seems pretty commonplace).

I don’t like the dress. There’s nothing wrong with the cut of it but the mix of black and white looks weird to me, like some sort of office babe-wannabe thing, but they didn’t want it to be too sexy so they gave the dress a classic cut… also, it doesn’t exactly show her boob job from it’s best angles.
What I like about Blake is that she is ordinary looking, but she works it with gusto. I feel the same way about Ryan. They seem like a real life ‘most attractive couple’ , as opposed to Brangelina, who are movie star gorgeous. Blake’s gown and hair are lovely, and Rosario looks beautiful.

Blake consistently looks very stunning in just about everything, so she must have excellent taste in clothing, and also great designers to choose from. Her frame also works well with just about any gown or ensemble. Lucky Ryan, is this his “trophy wife,” because she makes them look like a very handsome couple? Scarlett, on the other hand….I just didn’t ever care for her more rounded shape, or her personality either. Ohhhh, just realized that Blake may have breast implants now, Noooooo! Why ??? If so, I’m disappointed in her.
The dress is more appropriate for the Oscars, Golden Globes, Bafta’s but not Cannes. Her stab at trying to have a statuesque, whimsical appearance at a far less glamorous event does come off as a bit try hard, one has to admit.
