Amal Alamuddin wears mismatched shoes, bubble-gum pink dress: cute or cloying?

FFN_Alamuddin_Amal_FFUK_052014_51421337

These pics look like they’re from a magazine photoshoot, right? Amal Alamuddin was pap’d yet again yesterday in London. I would say that she was headed out for work (she’s a human rights lawyer, you know!), but the paparazzi caught up with her when she was out to lunch or something. Maybe she’s still on holiday from her law firm? I’m starting to wonder about that. As for her outfit… I’m not crazy about grown women in bubble-gum pink. Hot pink? Okay. Pastel pink? Sure. But bubble gum pink? Eh. Also: LOOK AT HER SHOES. One is purple and one is pink. I think they come that way – they are actually a real pair of shoes.

As for all of the other stuff… let’s see what the tabloids (American and British) have come up with. Lisa Snowden, who dated Clooney years ago and was not discreet about it at all, told a UK paper that “His fiancée sounds great. I’m happy for him. I’m happy for them both. It’s good news. [I’m sure] millions of [women] are crying because he’s off the market.” Terse? Genuine? Or merely over it?

There’s also a random story about how George has asked Matt Damon to be his Best Man. Sure. I don’t believe it, but if Clooney is going to select a Best Man, he could do a lot worse than Matt Damon. I tend to think Rande Gerber or George’s dog would be more likely to fill in as Best Man though. And finally, more rumors that George cannot wait to have kids. A source tells OK!:

“George never wanted to have kids before, but he knew right away that Amal would be the perfect mother… [They are trying] and don’t care whether she’s a pregnant bride. He even told his friend Brad Pitt that he finally understands Brad’s drive to be a daddy.”

[Via The Irish Independent]

I’ll believe it when George tells People Mag and not a second before. I mean, this whole Engagement Rollout has been so weird thus far, I have to think that if George does want babies, he’ll just tell People Mag that he wants babies and then we’ll know. Cary Grant was like this too, correct? Grant only had the one daughter and he became a father late in his life (he was in his 60s), but his daughter completely changed everything for him. Will Clooney be the same?

She looks gorgeous. Her clothes are always kind of weird and not everyone’s style, but I really like that she has her own personal style and has fun not caring what other people think. The pink dress is so cute on her.

I really like the idea of George as a dad, especially with a daughter. He’d be great.

    • Erinn says:

It’s cute weird though. And I like it. I love that she isn’t morphing herself into the usual Clooney gf.

    • bluhare says:

I agree. She hasn’t toned down her quirkiness (yet).

      • Aqua says:

@ bluhare quirky is the best word describe her style Hopefully she’ll attend one of Georges movie premier or walk the red carpet during award season because I can’t wait to see what or who she would be wearing.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Thank you, I couldn’t agree more!

    • vava says:

      +1

    • JudyK says:

      Love her style…and her shoes.

    • Tulip Garden says:

I don’t know that I love her style but I love that she wears what she likes. This outfit is actually pretty great though. Looks comfortable and a little quirky. Good for her.

      • Liberty says:

Yes, it’s nice she is enjoying her own style. I like it on her.

      • homegrrrl says:

She looks like a girl in love! Sometimes we women get silly when we are in that honeymoon phase. This is a literal pink cloud, and as a romance humbug, please let someone enjoy the illusion phase!

    • malina says:

      I know, so refreshing!

    • JennySerenity says:

Count me in, love her style, too! Lovely, elegant woman. Still giving this marriage the hairy eyeball, though. *scratches head*

    • Delorb says:

Love the outfit, but she’s too boney. She really needs to eat at lunch next time.

      • Francis says:

She’s not gorgeous or beautiful. IMO
Nice hair yes, Educated Yes, but beautiful NO.

      • jamie says:

She needs to have that dress taken in. It looks like she would have to adjust it to keep it looking like it hangs crooked on her. Ha Ha. Crooked dress on a lawyer. Oops. She’s a human rights lawyer, guess she’s above that. Anyways, she looks cold. She needs a jacket or a sweater.

    • wolfpup says:

I think that she is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. George was wise to scoop her up right away! He’s the lucky one.

      • Francis says:

In a Eurovision Song Contest participant kind of way perhaps.
        Kinda masculine looking.

  2. Kiddo says:

She has another pair just like it at home.

  3. aligoat says:

I will never understand why people wear ugly shoes.

    • Delta Juliet says:

Well, people’s tastes are very different. Obviously she likes them.

FTR, I probably would not wear them myself, but I am not terribly fashionable either, so….

    • Katherine says:

I never see her in business clothes. I cannot imagine that lawyers in England dress all that differently from lawyers in the US. It all seems too precious and cutesy. Not the best way to instill confidence in clients or be taken seriously in a serious field. Lawyers have to learn early on that it is not about you but rather it is all about your clients and your audience.

I also would never wear a ring that ostentatious for work.

    • Lola says:

The style of the shoe does not appeal me and I do not know if she actually is doing the “middle school thing” you know, buying two sets of sneakers and wearing one side of one set with the other side of the other set, but I do own Camper and Desigual shoes, so I like the whole miss match thing on foot wear.

  4. lower-case deb says:

that last pic, she looks like Anne Hathaway!

  5. Tx says:

Well, if nothing else, her legs look killer!

    • sooz says:

what i wouldn’t give to have legs like that!!!

    • Tiffany :) says:

That is exactly what I though. Love the muscle tone!

    • christine says:

It’s funny because i was thinking she suffered from Brandi Glanville legs. So thin that it makes you look old. They’re not terrible, but they look ropy and bony. Doesn’t seem attractive to me, but eye of the beholder I guess.

      • Delorb says:

        +1

      • JennySerenity says:

        *sigh* Delorb-

This is not the only thread where you’ve taken pokes at thin ladies. Saying…”Love the outfit, but she’s too boney. She really needs to eat at lunch next time”…is pretty aggro against slender women. Or women who *choose* to be on the lean side, whatever. All I know is that if Skinny Body-shaming appears in a thread, well….;)

      • Francis says:

        +1000

    • Francis says:

Yuck ,Her legs are awful. IMO

  6. Kali says:

I want to hate but… I can’t. I love it from head to toe. Even the shoes.

  7. Sharra55 says:

I think it’s cute. I like the pink on her…and I am not a pink kinda girl. And I dig the shoes.

  8. LadyMTL says:

I hate bubblegum pink so I’m really not the right person to judge her outfit, lol. All I can say is that I haven’t worn pink and purple together since I was like…10 or 11. I find it a bit weird that a powerful lawyer would choose to dress like this but hey, whatever floats her boat.

    • CariBean says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking about her being a successful attorney. If I hired her and she showed up with mismatched shoes, yeah, the judgey eyebrow would go up. Are mismatched shoes a thing now??

I don’t mind the dress at all, I think she looks fantastic in it!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Could be she’s not meeting with any clients today, so she can wear what she wants

      • taxi says:

If she goes to court, she’ll wear a long robe & wig, won’t she?

  9. eliza says:

The outfit and shoes are ridic but the bag is outrageously bad!

  10. Dani2 says:

The shoes are what I dislike about the outfit for me, way too similar to a pair my mum wore relentlessly in the late 90s. It’s a good look otherwise imo.

  11. hunaww says:

Her body is insane! I love this look on her.

  12. Karen says:

Do we really need a daily pap walk of George’s piece? I mean I’m happy an educated and capable women is being promoted, but when you talk only about her clothes she might as well be Stacy Keibler.

    • ToodySezHey says:

      Karen

      Agree completely!

      • kri says:

@Karen- i think that’s the point. Her clothes, hes shoes, her lunching and shopping. The way she is being presented is no different than any of his other girls, is it? Blah.

    • bella says:

      it’s so contrived.
doesn’t anyone else suspect the timing of all this?
i believe that george is trying to rebuild his image after being hammered and obviously embarassed during the golden globes.
after all these years of being the consummate batchelor???
      idk
      i just don’t buy it.
      so soon jumping to engagement…
come on, what’s different this time?

      • ToodySezHey says:

        Bella

Maybe he found the right one? She us beautiful, smart, politically astute, wildly successful and accomplished just like him. Sounds like a matched pair to me.

And George is a grown man. At a certain age you know yourself and you know what you want and when you find that right thing? Full steam ahead.

      • bella says:

this is a man who has had his pick of women for years.
i’m sure that he met perfectly matched, lovely, successful women in the past.
        plenty of them.
        i’m skeptical, here.
it looks like a pr set up for whatever reason.
        but…who knows?
        perhaps i’m becoming a crusty jaded b*tch.

      • clover says:

I think it’s all a reaction to Stacy Keibler getting married and pregnant!! She dumped him, moved the hell on, and suddenly he’s “the marrying kind”??? #colormeskeptical

      • Illyra says:

Yeah once the news was out that he’d found “the one” (and it was a woman) my eyes hurt from rolling back so hard… not buying this for a second.

      • Francis says:

It’s so fake. George is doing some PR and Amal is just another contract signer w a better deal. She looks awful.

      • anne says:

        feels completely fake to me.

    • Sumodo1 says:

Yes, I agree. She doesn’t need to have a ho stroll photo daily–this one will troll us, as she is showing us here. Remember, Clooney and his friends are into pranks. Make no mistake, Amal is a smart cookie.

    • Dinah says:

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am already exhausted thinking of the extended deluge of overwrought media coverage in the weeks and months to come, gah!

    • Belle Epoch says:

They are avoiding what she really does. This woman is NOT interested in human rights. She represents Assange in his case of rape and molestation. And: “She has been involved in high-profile cases representing the state of Cambodia, the former Libyan intelligence chief Abdallah Al Senussi, Yulia Tymoshenko and Julian Assange, and is an adviser to the King of Bahrain.”

Please read the following about Bahrain:

      http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2014/05/21/363501/ai-slams-bahrain-for-rights-violations/

      • Liberty says:

        Exactly.

      • Irene says:

She *is* a human rights lawyer, just… you know… on the other side of the human rights thing. I mean, everyone is allowed to have representation and of course, criminals need to be represented as well, but at least understand what she actually does.

      • kri says:

@ Belle Thank you! I’m glad you pointed this out. As I said in a previous post, this woman is a lawyer for some…interesting people. George wants her for something.

      • LAK says:

Irene: I’m all for justice for all, BUT! i detest lawyers who represent shady people. Amal might be all sorts of accomplished blah, blah, but i can’t get away from the fact that she represents shady people with money. And the money bit *is* important because that’s what helps these shady people to have brilliant and expensive lawyers that will represent them.

      • JulieM says:

Yes, to the creepy aspect of her client list. BUT.. everyone has the right to a lawyer, guilty or innocent. Sorry, that’s the way the law works; like it or not. Not… from the sound of it. Fair enough.

      • Francis says:

Which is why I’ve believed right from the start, she’s NOT a good choice if he was looking for a Political wife. She’s way too divisive and controversial in her client list. She’s dealing with representing men who are alleged rapists and wanted by the US government. The political landscape running against George will have a field day with her and George.

    • yolo112 says:

I came here to say the same thing!! I’m SOOOOOO over this chick already. Every freakin day we get to see her walking, posing, sunglassed face…enough.

      • Francis says:

In baby doll pink, short dress, is she wearing that for her law work at the office?
I’m sick of they hype , she’s not gorgeous and she is not stunning, her legs look awful.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Karen, this isn’t really directed at you, because people say it on here all the time, but do we have to call a woman “George’s piece?” I’m older, so I remember when women were called a “piece of ass,” so maybe that’s why it bothers me. It seems degrading.

      • LAK says:

Goodnames: i hear you. along side ‘chick’ and ‘bird’. i find these expressions so degrading.

  13. Wilma says:

I’m never sure if she’s happy to be papped or knows she will get papped and has decided she might as well smile

  14. Rachel says:

Girlfriend is SKIN-KNEE… like Angelina Jolie levels. The dress looks like a tent on her. She is a beauty though!

    • Kimble says:

100 per cent this – nothing wrong with being thin (I wish), but it looks odd when your clothes just hang on you …

    • flavia_deluce says:

Same. That dress looks about 3 sizes too big, though it seems to fit around the boobs–either avoid a style that does that to you or get it tailored.

Also, N. O. on those shoes, but Y. E. S. to her amazing hair. 🙂

    • reeniej says:

I just read an article on another site where they mentioned she ate once in 1992. 🙂

    • Miss M says:

@Flavia: Methinks she may be pregnant.

  15. Abbott says:

She’s beautiful. Wish the dress was in any other color.

  16. Esti says:

I don’t like the dress (it’s kind of shapeless) but I love the shoes. They’re clearly a matched pair and I think they’d look fabulous with a grey trouser. With the pink dress, it’s a little much.

    • Delta Juliet says:

It would have a shape on, say, me LOL But she’s skin and bones so it hangs on her.

  17. Samtha says:

I think it’s a really cute outfit, including the shoes.

  18. ToodySezHey says:

She Is a lawyer, not a fashion model or actress.

Cute or cloying? What an asinine observation

I really resent the fact that an astute legal mind is having her entire raison d’entre tied to the clothes in her back. Ugh.

  19. Miss Jupitero says:

No, no, no to the outfit. I hate anything on a grown woman that says “little girl.”

But yes, yes to her extremely toned legs. What do I have to do to get there? Sigh. And the big honking ring. Yes to that as well. Also I think that is a Hermes bag. Mmmmmm….

  20. AG-UK says:

I am sure she wasn’t wearing that to work. Human rights laywer or not they don’t do colours… and never that short.

    • DogMom says:

It’s the length that’s bugging me. At my considerably less conservative office than a high power human rights barrister, that length would raise eyebrows and possibly incur a ‘chat’ with powers to be.

And given that I’ve been at my office since 9 this morning doing workie work things like attending meetings and dealing with projects, can we please stop with ‘she’s a working woman’? She’s not working anymore than I’m shopping at Barneys.

  21. Birdix says:

something about her in the top pic makes me think of Angelina. I hope as a non-celeb, she’s ok with the scrutiny. And slightly off-topic–I had a class in college with Jennifer Grant–she was so lovely and so sweet.

  22. Shelby says:

    Beautiful hair

  23. QQ says:

I kinda love it, I also just love her style Very individual and not in any way catering to “male gaze” type shit… if i wasn’t built like a Brickhouse I’d love to dress like her but as a curvy person i know that what flatters me is NOT what she wears…*sigh* she makes me wanna gym…for her style

  24. Dani says:

The dress is so shapeless and makes her already thin legs look even thinner. Not a fan of mismatched shoes on anyone, even children. I work at a law firm and if I showed up with mismatched shoes my boss would probably send me home or make me take them off. Aside from that I have majjjjjjor hair envy. What a beautiful mane.

  25. mia girl says:

Matt Damon as Best Man you say?
I’m telling you Tina and Amy, Clooney swore revenge so don’t fall for George’s elaborate prank. There will be something waiting for you at this “wedding”. 😉

    • Jaderu says:

I’m just waiting for the “Gotcha”.
      It’s coming Amy/Tina… It’s coming.

  26. Delta Juliet says:

This whole thing reminds me of the beginning of Tom Cruise and “Kate” Holmes. I mean, a slightly smaller scale and a little less crazy, but still. Very similar.

  27. Tania says:

Photoshoot fresh! Looks like an ad.

  28. Alexis says:

I find her obnoxious. Her clothes are awful, and she’s WAY too thin. You can also see that homegirl is LIVING for this attention.

  29. PHD gossip says:

No Way Amal is currently working. International Lawyers with real caseloads have deadlines/conference calls/papers to draft and review and billing records to manage. In other words, real work.
She has been on a six month holiday with George travelling and getting papped all over the world. Does she drop into the office from time to time to read emails or follow up on old cases – sure. Does that qualify as work? I don’t think so.

    • talia says:

Apparently as a barrister she does not work for a law firm, has own chambers, and works depending on what work and case loads she takes on independently.

      • Ag-UK says:

        @Angie
At 35 I doubt she is the lead she is probably one of many and doing all the leg work. When you see all the legal teams for say Exxon you don’t usually see the young one leading mostly 40+ y/ o. Also in most photos of her working she is always with a group.

    • Cody says:

I agree IMO she is on leave until after the wedding and the 3 month honeymoon . She is probably spending the summer planning all her wedding events.

      • Angie says:

…all of which suggests that her career might not be as high powered as the media claims. Is she actually the first chair on these cases, or just a lowly assistant who makes for good eye candy, thus assisting in the high profile aspect, as opposed to the actual legal practice aspect? After all, once you take a case you don’t get to dictate its progress–that’s up to the court, and nobody could get away with taking an extended leave of absence in the middle of it if they had serious responsibility for its defense. I sure wouldn’t want an attorney who did that. Even the book she cowrote–the press doesn’t say what she did and what her coauthor did. I’m not knocking her, and I could very well be wrong–I’m just saying don’t believe every thing you read.

      • Belle Epoch says:

There are 3 authors on the cover of the book, listed in alphabetical order (Lucky “A”!).

As a co-writer I promise you she did not do much heavy lifting on this book. I believe they simply needed someone from Lebanon to add legitimacy to a $125 hardcover about Lebanese law.

She is LOVING this attention and is not that different from a typical George girlfriend. Better educated perhaps.

  30. Michelle says:

It’s better than hot pink. She looks good in it. I didn’t even notice the shoe difference until you pointed it out.

  31. nima1 says:

Meh, she is very JCrew’ish. Her shoe game is very childish too….she should take some pointers from Anjelina. A St John wardrobe would be more fitting. But them again, didn’t this woman wear torn jeans and clown shoes the other day?

  32. Abby_J says:

My toddler wants to wear mismatched shoes. I can’t imagine why a grown woman would want to look like she is (although, if the shoes were matching, I like them in either color). I hope that doesn’t become a ‘thing.’

That said, she really is quite beautiful and she has killer legs.

    • Delta Juliet says:

My preschooler refuses to wear matching socks 😀

      • Abby_J says:

So does Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds), and it has worked for him.

I wouldn’t mind my mini me in mismatched shoes if she kept to the same type of shoe. One sandal and one tennis shoe just isn’t going to cut it. I haven’t thought of trying to get her to go for mismatched socks instead. I think there is a whole store dedicated to mismatched socks.

  33. Allie says:

    Her hair is gorgeous.

  34. magpie says:

I would call that pepto bismol pink. She has great legs.

  35. Penelope says:

Heaven help me but I like the shoes and the dress on her.

  36. Madi says:

I am not sure Lisa Snowdon cares. Her radio show just won best breakfast show and her current boyfriend is drop dead gorgeous. Even the Daily Mail started to drop the George Clooney ex for a while

  37. gg says:

This IS actually pastel pink …

  38. Dee says:

Everyone is commenting on the dress and shoes – but I think the fashion accessory that doesn’t work are her sunglasses. Jackie O had a wide face and they worked for her. Amal has a long, slender face and needs to get smaller sunglasses.

  39. serena says:

    It’s a “look at me” kind of outfit… I don’t really like it, it’s like she’s calling the paps -which I’m sure she doesn’t (?)- .

  40. John says:

Love the shoes, love the look, really dig her.

  41. K says:

This dress is a very 60s/Jackie O cut, and that is what makes the bubble gum pink dress work for her age. This outfit does not equate to the Katie Price look.

  42. Lucy says:

Pink is definitely not my favorite color in the world, and the mismatched shoes is kinda odd, but somehow this works. And it’s true that she dresses for herself and not for others, which is great.

  43. Reece says:

Are they mismatched or color blocked?
That’s entirely too much pink for my personal taste but she looks good in it. I’d wear the shoes with a different outfit.

  44. videli says:

I think this is makes-brunettes-look-gorgeous pink.

  45. Suki2 says:

Beyond staged. She’s at work….modeling. Not a lawyer look. Don’t most of George’s gal pals consider themselves to be ‘models’.

    • Beatrice says:

My thought exactly!! My reaction was George’s PR person and Stylist are working hard.

  46. Etheldreda says:

Hmmmm…. just a few weeks ago, Amal dressed like a particularly unstylish university student, yet now she’s matching her phone to her dress and getting photographed in a new outfit every day?

It’s obvious Clooney’s team are dressing her. These ‘candid pap shots’ are as contrived as the rest of the ‘engagement’. Which is to say, very.

  47. Lindy says:

Cary Grant was a good father, but a terrible husband. Both baby mama (Dyan Cannon) and his daughter (Jennifer Grant) ultimately wrote books about him, and the second was much more flattering than the first.

  48. Diana says:

Love her business looks!!! She has a killer figure. This mismatched shoes are cute on her but I would never wear that myself (I’m too conservative).

Do you think her dress length is appropriate for a business setting? I work at a bank and could not wear something that short in the office!

  49. lunchcoma says:

I thought it had been clarified that she’s taking a sabbatical.

I don’t normally like her clothes, but I think this is lovely. I don’t think any shade is off limits as long as its flattering to someone, and this one looks great on her. And the shoes are much more attractive than I imagined from just reading the headline.

  50. wow says:

I’m so over this chick already.

Placing her in the “try too hard” column.

    • Helvetica says:

Me, too. It’s not that I think she is trying to o hard it’s just how in our face their entire thing is. It’s so anti-what Clooney normally is that this just feels WEIRD.

      • Nibbi says:

I’d find it more believable or “a real change for George” or I guess I’d have more respect for her if she, I dunno, looked more like a normal/ serious/ working lawyer/ non-famous starlet wannabe famewhore. I mean I get that she’s new to the scene and he’s incredibly famous and stuff but all of these papwalks and highly coordinated yet klutzy looks are sorta downgrading her image. If she kept up the low-profile, elegant yet serious (ie no hot pink, hello kitty, bow-tie dresses, etc.) “i have a real career” thing, I’d find it to be more of an actual departure into reality for Clooney… It’s like she’s trying to compete with his former “model” super-girly glamourista types, and it’s so dumb because she really doesn’t have to.

    • Francis says:

      +1000
Someone’s press has gone to her head. She’s totally loving the attention.

  51. Jen34 says:

The dress is big on her. It needs to be taken in. I kind of love the look, except for the bag. She is a beautiful girl.

  52. Mrs.Krabapple says:

I can see her as a newscaster, or in some similar pseudo-entertainment role. I cannot take her seriously as an attorney. I’m not saying she isn’t smart – for all I know she could be as smart as Stephen Hawking, I’m just saying I don’t agree with the way her projects herself as an attorney, as if SHE buys into the myth that females lawyers are still wearing girly pink nails and have no more substance than cotton candy. I know I’ll get heat for saying that, but that’s the vibe I get from her.

    • lunchcoma says:

She’s not projecting herself as an attorney right now, though. This is how she dresses to go to lunch while she’s on her extended vacation. I’m an attorney fairly close to her in age, and many women I know dress similarly (or wear sloppy casual clothes) in their off hours. Pictures of her at events related to her job show her wearing dark colors and conservative necklines.

    • Jayna says:

Are you serious? She is on her off hours. You expect her to be some version of a professional all the time. That is a very nice dress for afternoon lunch and it had a beautiful trench with it she was wearing in some photos.

  53. AnnaB says:

For the love of God, do your research or listen to your English commenters on this. In England barristers DO NOT work at law firms. They have an amazing set up that means they can basically work whatever hours they like. My man is a barrister and some years he takes all of December and August off. He can also do his work from anywhere in the world, unless he has an actual court date. It’s driving me nuts reading the incorrect press reporting on this! Aarrrgh!

    • Madi says:

Agreed. And if anyone read what cases she has they would realise why she is not in court at the moment. One client is in an embassy, one who is in a prison and she is unable to contact him directly (waiting for the ICC to admit they f#d it up and for them to agree for a Hague trial), and one which some documents are still in the process of being filed. Plus she is on the council of looking into the Human Rights violations for civilians killed by drones, and that is never going to move fast or even if at all because of who the opposition is on that issue.

      • DogMom says:

Soooo…..that begs the question…..how does she afford the Balengcia(sp) bag and London cabs (that someone mentioned were so pricey)? My understanding of the Barrister game is that you get paid to go to court and do whatever pre/post work is needed. If her cases aren’t in court (and not going to be there anytime soon) then what is she really doing and how does she really pay the bills?

I know paying the bills is no longer an issue w/Clooney around but I’m still stuck on how we the unwashed great and good are supposed to believe this gal is some hard driving legal ace when it *looks* like she doesn’t work all that often.

Also why do folks keep saying she’s the perfect political wife for Clooney? I can’t reasonably understand how someone representing intl cases will help win a Senate seat. Sure she’ll look pretty on his arm and use big words but that’s not the role of a the political wife. We, Americans, tend to like our political wives dumb, pretty and silent. (Sorry to offend but really….let’s be honest.)

      • Madi says:

Most of those cases she is working on would be paid by the ICC who has assigned her (and others, they don’t work alone) to at least 2 of her cases. I think Ben Emmerson QC bought her on board for the Al Senussi case. Al Senussi said he doesn’t know if he has a lawyer, and Amal and Ben Emmerson QC have complained to the ICC that Libya are preventing them from speaking either in person or on the phone to their client and want the trial moved to the Hague. She is also on the prosecution for the trial about the assassination of Rafiq Hariri which a few months ago they were still in the process of submitting documents. The ICC is paid for by the members which is most of the world. Their budget is huge and their lawyers are specialists, not like what most people seem to think it is.

She would be working, but a lot of this is on the phone or through emails. Her chambers would be processing all the paperwork she needs, she just tells them what she wants done. People obviously missed that she was in Libya a few weeks ago trying to get to talk to her client. It was on the news

As for Clooney trying for a political career from this, that door is sealed shut because of this association. She is on the Human Rights Council for the use of drones against civilians. Which means she is on the opposite side of the US on this issue. It is the US (mainly) who are the ones she is investigating. There is no way in hell Clooney would get into office with her at his side. I would have loved to have been at the White House when he bought her there, just to have seen her and President Obama meet

      • LAK says:

        Dogmom: Several things:

This is a list of her CURRENT caseload from her chambers:

        http://www.doughtystreet.co.uk/barristers/profile/amal-alamuddin

Her fees and expenses are paid by the solicitors who’ve appointed her.

        A guide to barristers

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrister

ps: if you look at her caseload, her clients are people trying to change the world order. People who need very expensive lawyers. Even if she worked on one case in 10yrs [as an example – google the bloody Sunday lawyers and the money they made on that one case], she’s going to walk away from it having made serious bank.

      • Liberty says:

Thank you, LAK, for sharing those links.

    • BritishLurker says:

      This.

The English legal system is not the same as the American one. Amal is self employed, manages her own workload and has a huge amount of freedom.

  54. moo says:

The dress looks too young on her.

  55. EscapedConvent says:

That’s a cute spring dress, & I don’t think her shoes are mismatched. They are obviously a pair. I would wear them in a second (if they were both purple or both pink) That’s a perfect heel; the entire shoe has a beautiful shape.

Amal continues to remind me of a thin, thin, thin Nigella Lawson, sort of.

I will be amazed if AmLooney actually has any kids! Let’s hold our breath & see.

  56. JessSaysNo says:

    MEGAN DRAPER!

  57. Sam says:

That is one short dress for the office.

She is becoming the Kim kardashian of the legal world.

  58. laurie says:

Does anyone else think she has implants??

    • Nibbi says:

      Mos def
her body is bangin’ but in that hollywood pumped-toned-super-skinny-n-huge-boobs kinda way

    • Francis says:

Yes, she’s very skinny, I find her body awful looking and her chest looks like implants. She has no fat on her body, odd she has some naturally on her chest. I think that’s a very good boob job.

  59. siri says:

She looks underweight to me, and the dress is too big. I like the style of it, though, only some none-pink shoes, and different glasses+bag might have make it look more sophisticated. However, with all this obviously appreciated PR, she’s much closer to Stacy and the other ‘non-intellectuals’ than she might think she is.

    • Francis says:

      +1000
Yes, a contract, better PR, better educated, but it’s more of the same. IMO 2 or 3 yr contract and loads of pr as Geroges fiancée, George’s wife and happy couple, until contract fulfilled.

      • siri says:

You are right, I believe. And did anybody notice that the Doughty Street Chambers she works for was the first to release an official statement congratulating them? THEY basically broke the news…I would call that very untypical. It shouldn’t be up to your employer to release statements containing personal information like this. So, who gave them permission? Only after that, Clooney’s mother was asked, with the now infamous remarks about former girlfriends. As for the chamber, they just wanna cash in, as they even changed her profile on their website in the meantime. It’s much more extensive now.

  60. african woman says:

    she has no bra on

  61. tessy says:

I don’t mind the shoes, but she looks like she’s dressed up as a candy striper in that dress. It would be more suited to a 15 year old.

    How old is she anyhow?

  62. Liz says:

Don’t see anything wrong with that shade of pink on a grown woman. She looks casually chic.

  63. please no says:

‘Perfect mommy’ ….make me gag on this retrograde horseshit. This PR stagecraft is for all the for the baby fetishers and fatherhood whitewashing. Heck it seems to have worked for Jeremy Renner.

  64. Aqua says:

Having kids is a big responsibility and one not to be taken lightly and even though George did say once that he didn’t see himself as having kids, people can change over a period of time as he has. Besides I think they would have the most beautiful babies/kids.

  65. Sara says:

I guess I’m in the minority here but she looks awful. No, her dress isn’t cute, nor is it a good fit for her. No, her legs aren’t toned. They’re too bony. And does this woman ever work?

    • Francis says:

I’m with you, IMO Totally overrated. Not sure what the gushing is about, if she wasn’t a lawyer, I wonder if we’d get all these comments of how gorgeous she is, because IMO she’s just not a beauty, she’s quite average looking and her body is terribly thin. Her education is lovely though and no doubt she’s book smart, for that she’s to be congratulated, but she’s not a beauty IMO.

  66. Dorky says:

I like the left shoe, but not the right one.

  67. dread pirate cuervo says:

Does she always have a pink phone case? Or does she match her case to her outfit? B/c that is too much. The outfit is cute, but too young for her, I think.

  68. iggie says:

I’ve warn mismatched shoes before too – because I got dressed in the dark. No one thought it was cute, especially me. The new thing with girls is wearing mismatch socks, which I did “back in the day” when I wore boots since no one knew… Damn that sock eating dryer. If she dressed like this before Clooney I’m okay with it, otherwise, no. I would wear that dress with tan shoes. I like it.

  69. Suze says:

I don’t think she’s working much these days. Which is fine, after all that’s probably why she got into the old barrister gig, to pick and choose what she wanted to do and take time off when she wanted.

She’s probably passing the time visiting her designer and knocking off whatever wedding duties George has left to her.

I just don’t think she’s going into the office wearing that dress. It’s a big city lady going to lunch dress, not a lady barrister in the office dress.

It’s interesting that Clooney himself has fallen completely off the radar. Getting some pre-wedding restorative nip and tucking? Getting his back attended to? He wasn’t moving well at all last we saw him hoisting himself on to that plane.

  70. AnnieCL says:

    Indeed..Cary Grant was gay!

  71. Ada says:

From a Clooney board…a couple of things…If you look at the first pap picture of her in October and compare it to her pap pics now, she has lost weight. As do most of Clooney’s recent partners (meaning Canalis and Keibler).

Also Nina Clooney (George’s mom) made a statement that has been glossed over. When the engagement was being rolled out, she was asked about Amal. Yep, the usual she’s smart and we’re very happy. But Nina said that she and Nick met Amal a year before the engagement. Totally believe Mrs. Clooney because why would she lie? The other question is why would George and his team lie about when they first began dating?

I see the advantage for George in marrying Amal, but have yet to figure out the advantage to Amal for marrying George…a man who has never been faithful. I believe they had all the “legal” paperwork signed before they had that first October pap shot. Also think this will be a VERY long-distance relationship. George already has 3 films in the works plus he and Grant Heslov are always looking for movies to produce and/or direct. We’ll never see George cheating but it’ll be life as usual for him out of the public eye.

  72. Aye says:

George has probably given her a huge budget for clothing, travel, and other stuff. She’s a relatively junior barrister (called to the bar in 2010 only) and I don’t think she’d get paid that much yet. I think she’s probably already part-time or casual only, and after her marriage she’d probably switch to teaching only.

  73. Kosmos says:

She definitely has a VERY lean physique, not an ounce of fat! The dress looks okay, love pink anytime….wouldn’t do the shoes, though, they seem too cute, you know? Kind of like something you would have worn in junior high or high school, but not as a grown up….I’m not a big fan of having that kind of buckle or tow detail on shoes either…seems old fashioned to me. But otherwise, she looks good. I see she’s mostly photographed carrying this great tan colored bag, which I’d love to be able to afford…..for this outfit, though, I think perhaps a gray handbag would have looked good, not tan….but being a busy busy human rights attorney, I’m sure I can understand she doesn’t have time to change purses every day…..

  74. Francis says:

All I see when she’s walking down the street with those gawd-awful legs is how desperately hard she’s trying to look fashionable and sex it up.
She looks more like a Jackie O in drag.
Some women can wear a bandy doll cut type dress and some can’t , she just looks ridiculous in this cut, it doesn’t suit her body and her super skinny legs need more coverage.
I just don’t get the beauty hype, her face is just ok, she’s certainly not a stunning beauty . She has a angular Lurch type look to her face, which I don’t find beautiful.
This whole thing looks like another Contract similar to the previous ladies, but with marriage as a part of it and now we are getting the daily walk and fashions of Amal.

I really thought I was looking at someone from the Eurovision Song Contest at first.
I also think she has a very good boob job. Her body is super thin, underweight almost but she has full boobs, looks fake.
I think this entire relationship is PR, contract. Amal seems to be loving her new found fame and enjoying the attention. She’s doing her very own fashion walk hahaha, mismatched shoes, pink short baby doll-ish cut dress, Jackie sunglasses. She’s bought into her press hype already. IMO

  75. aemish says:

Two different shoes are cheesy enough, but having them in pink and purple is downright childish
