Kendall Jenner: ‘My parents brought up Kylie and me to be workaholics’

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner has a feature in the June issue of Interview magazine. I don’t know what she’s promoting here besides her modelling career. Kendall did move out of the Klan home when she bought a $1.4 million condo recently. She told Us that Kris Jenner “cried herself to sleep” after she left. She and Kylie are also out promoting their new book. The Jenner sisters have written a new novel called Rebels: City of Indra: The Story of Lex and Livia. The Amazon reviews have not been kind.

None of that stuff comes up in this interview. Kendall talks about all sorts of stuff. She admits to being a habitual liar as a child and delivers a good semi-diss to Kris by admitting that Bruce Jenner is her role model. She used to make him proud during track and field meets. I’m sure you know Bruce used to be quite the athlete himself. Here are some excerpts:

What is her life goal? “To be honest, this is exactly what I wanted to be. I was always looking up to supermodels. They were, like, my superheroes.”

Who was she in a past life? “Maybe a horse.”

Her worst nightmare: “I used to have the craziest fear of losing teeth. I would have nightmares about that all the time. But it’s the craziest thing, because I feel like that’s one of the easiest things to fix. You just get veneers or something.”

Her role model isn’t Kris: “My dad is my everything. He always had the craziest speeches for Kylie [Kendall’s younger sister] and me growing up, good words to live by. ‘Dream big, work hard.’ My parents brought up Kylie and me to be workaholics. That’s something I really appreciate.”

She was a child track star: “My friend just showed me this video of when I was on the track team. I got the school record for high jump. My dad was so proud of me.”

She was a habitual liar: “When I was little, I would always lie about the stupidest things. In kindergarten or first grade, I would tell people I had tigers living in my attic and a room full of gold. I would tell people I was from Hawaii, but I had a Southern accent. I was the biggest liar for no reason, and then as I got older, I thought, ‘Why am I lying to everybody?’ I would hear other people lie and be like, ‘You sound so stupid.’ So then I would just change my lies. The only person I lie to is my little sister, when I steal her clothes.”

Her favorite word: “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.”

What she notices first in a man: “Beautiful eyes. Any time I see beautiful eyes, they’re always, like, blue …”

What would be her death row meal? “Apple pie.”

Tell us something we don’t know: “I don’t have tigers in my attic. [laughs] I don’t know–I feel like someone would think of me, or anyone in my family, as unappreciative of a moment, and I’ve really learned to appreciate a moment. I take things in a lot. I’m kind of weird like that. I like to go outside at night by myself and look at the sky and just appreciate it. I’m not that big of a weirdo, but–occasionally.”

[From Interview Magazine]

I do feel for Kendall and Kylie because they’re the youngest of the Klan. The other sisters (and Rob) were adults by the time KUWTK entered their world. The eldest siblings could have flown the family roost and avoided the show, but Kendall and Kylie had no choice. They were brought up by Kris to value looks and money more than anything else in the world. Kendall thinks that she and Kylie are now “workaholics,” but that means they work hard at taking selfies. If both of Kendall and Kylie’s parents were more like Bruce and less like Kris, these girls would have had a fighting chance at normalcy. I think Bruce lives in fear of Kris’ wrath, but he used to be more down to earth. Kris Jenner ruins everything.

My parents raised me in the same way but I don’t recall anything related to endless shopping, never ending beauty sessions or no school whatsoever.
Take a seat bitch and don’t insult real hard-working people.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yup. What these women consider “work” is rather laughable.

      • redsox says:

        +10000

      • kri says:

The Womb of Doom strikes again. Let’s face it, KK i getting old and being shipped out to graze on the grass (given yesterday’s outfit), so Kris had to start on the younger Dashbots. Oh, the horror.

      • wiffie says:

Well, I’ll be nice, and be the odd one out and give her benefit of the doubt. Until I see what a week looks like for her, sunup to sundown, I won’t say she sits on her ass all day. It’s easy to see a lot of jobs as easy but it’s the little things that sometimes make work hard. business trips are not paid vacations, and travel is exhausting, especially when it’s somewhere new eery few days. Being a SAHM isn’t pajamas and soap operas (if you’re actually running your home like a business), and modeling isn’t like a spa day or salon trip with pretty pictures at the end. constant travel, critique, running around for jobs. Until I’ve been in her shoes, I won’t say it’s not work. Besides she didn’t say she do d the most physical labor. She says she works a lot. That means being on the clock a lot, regardless if working is watching TV or construction.

To think the only ones really working are oil riggers or coal miners pretty much discredits every other job on the planet, and that’s not fair.

    • watchmaker says:

And I thought my job of caring for people who are incapable of doing the simplest things, like eating, dressing, wiping their buttocks after soiling themselves, etc, was hard work…

And I wouldn’t change my job, or my crazy life for anything….not even for a Klondike bar…..

      • Bob Loblaw says:

You’re a hero to me, I’ll take a kind hearted, caring person over any K or Jenner, any day of the week. I’d even give you one of my secret Heath Klondike bars.

    • Rice says:

The other day, my YA sis tried to make me watch a show called “Famous in 12”. It’s produced by the magnificent Harvey Levin. Basically, he takes a non-famous family from a no-name town and helps them in their quest to become the next Kardashian Empire. He said that anyone can go to Hollywood and become famous without any talent. But they must have some success in 12 weeks. The chosen family has 3 girls (teens/adults) a mother who thinks she’s the next E.L. James and a stepfather who’s 10 yrs younger than the mom. Yeah. Awesome.

  2. Patricia says:

If a model is truly beautiful and photogenic then she doesn’t need to have her hands down her pants or pull up her shirt or all these strange “sexy” poses going on here. It’s kind of pathetic.

  3. Aura says:

She is really, really gorgeous, and I think would have made it a a model even if she wasn’t famous

    • bella says:

      She’s incredible looking.
Best thing she should do is hire herself a successful, savvy agent to take over her modeling career.
She needs to separate from her hideous mother and sisters.
She has the potential, but her family will prevent any true respectable success.

    • SpookySpooks says:

I think she’s just okay looking. More Neckermann than Vogue.

Out of all the sisters, Kylie has the best body and Kourtney has the prettiest face.
She doesn’t sound that bad in the interview, for a Kardashian.

  4. Bridget says:

You hit the nail on the head – the Kardashian idea of work is promoting yourself. In that regard, they really do work very hard.

  5. martha says:

    workaholic ? Really ? doing what ?

    • eliza says:

      Fame whoring!

      • kimber says:

        Hahahaha pretty much
oh well …I’m just glad I wasn’t born a Kardassian!

As for the book they wrote getting bad reviews? They’re not academically minded and don’t seem to be prodigies, so it seems that they were set up to fail on that one, and accepted the failure. At least they can check off writer on their bucket list.

      • SpookySpooks says:

I really doubt they wrote even one word in that book. They just slapped their name on someone else’s work.

    • Rice says:

Hey! Being a Kardashian is really, really hard work! There’re shopping, pap strolls, taking selfies, pap strolls, acting a fool, shopping, sounding dumb in interviews, flubbing lines at award shows, attending Cannes, walking red carpets for no reason, so many, many things! So give these workaholics a break and let them famewhore in peace.

    • Lady D says:

Too bad she didn’t pursue athletics with her workaholic attitude. With Bruce for a dad, she might have gone far.

  6. Sara says:

I feel so bad for these people. They spend the first 25 years of their lives obsessing about their sex appeal and then they fight ageing for the next 50, feeling more and more threatened as their only asset dwindles. Some people react to that by drinking, other become stage parents…I must say, I think Bruce is as much to blame as his ex.

    • Lexie says:

      This. +1000.

Especially the part about Bruce. But as we know about his past marriages and the children that issued from them, he wasn’t ever exactly a model father either.

  7. Nicolette says:

Workaholic, not so much. Money hungry, now that I can believe.

  8. Hissyfit says:

She’s pretty and good for her for staying away from the Kardashian circus.

    • Jana says:

What? When does she ever really stay away from their circus? She’s an integral part of the machine now.

      • me says:

She’s Kris Jenner’s number 2 favorite daughter. Kim is still number 1. I do think all focus will be on Kendall soon though. Kris is trying to market Kendall and Kylie as a team (the same way she did the K girls). She knows if she doesn’t market them together, Kylie will get left behind (the way Rob did).

    • HappyMom says:

Huh? She’s totally part of the circus.

  9. Stephanie says:

Paola, you don’t like the Kardashians. Understood. Must you call a teenage girl a bitch though?

I think is she gorgeous. But her poses are still a bit young. She doesn’t know how to be sexy without being naked yet.

I know they’ve been earning money outside of KUWTK since they were young, but I have no way to guage how much work it is.

  10. doofus says:

good lord, she sounds vapid and dumb.

    I guess she’s truly a K.

  11. Dame Snarkweek says:

Every time there are new photos of her I am surprised that she’s not pretty yet. It’s like when you keep peeking into the oven to see how the cake is coming along…and no one ever turned the oven on.
Okay, I need caffeine. And cake.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Even with the injections, I still find her entirely forgettable.

      • paola says:

I think Kylie will be the most good looking of the bunch if she stops messing with her face. She has something different from all the other sisters. It’s something in her expression.. She looks genuinely sexy (I feel bad for saying that..she’s only 16)

      • mimif says:

Wow I totally forgot she’s only 16. I need to slow my roll down because I don’t care how f-cked up you or your family is, I can’t be hating on teenagers.
And Elle Fanning is 16?! Boy talk about day. and. night.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

        TOK
Ikr. At least the mini Ks don’t quite make my teeth itch. Yet.

      • Jarredsgirl says:

Paola, I agree. Kylie has presence, there is a gravity in her stare. Kendall is okay looking but she doesn’t have that presence. And sorry to nitpick, but Kendall, honey, you are not a supermodel. You’re a model, kind of. Baby steps!

    • mimif says:

I’m laughing even tho I don’t want to. And pass the cake please. *throws vodka at Kitten*

    • Dame Snarkweek says:

*Hands mimif a slice of Damn, That’s Southern pound cake and a K cup*
      Well…
*Looks down at carpet – is grateful vodka doesn’t stain*

  12. word says:

Oh come on, why on earth would you feel sorry for a Jenner or Kardashian? They have the easiest lives. They party, shop, eat out all the time. They make lots of money with minimal effort. Everyone has family issues. I think I’ll save my sympathy for some starving third world children.

  13. cro-girl says:

She is absolutely stunning. Just gorgeous.

I think it’s a bit of a laugh to scoff at her for saying she works hard. I am fairly certain that we in the developed world dont work near as hard as 80% of the world’s population. I can’t throw stones at this girl.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

      Oh please.

Tell that to people working in coal mines, oil rig workers, and lumberjacks.

Besides the fact that the rest of us aren’t claiming to be “working so hard” while we attend autograph signings, make pubic appearances, and host award shows–you know, things that require no physical labor or brainpower, things that are actually pretty fun.

    • me says:

She is very pretty. She has the height and body for runway modelling. However, if we didn’t know who she was she’d probably just blend in with the other models. I don’t think she would have been such a stand out if it wasn’t for who her family is. She is getting modelling jobs more based on her family’s fame than for her modelling ability. I think she’ll do well in the modeling world as long as her family stays in the spotlight.

      • Lexie says:

Agreed. She’s lovely and has the body for the work, but she lacks…presence. Even Cara Delevigne has more going on in the face than Kendall.

    • littlestar says:

They do NOT work hard. Taking a selfie and posting it to Instagram is not hard work. Even when it comes to promoting themselves, their hellish mother does the brunt of the work.

But you know what the biggest thing that stands out to me about their actual LACK of work ethic is? The fact that they dropped out and couldn’t even finish high school. If they truly had any work ethic and the desire to better themselves, they would have at least finished their high school education. Really speaks volumes, imo.

Edit: I don’t know why I let myself get so worked up over these girls lack of education, but f*ck. Their fame is already on the downswing, everyone dislikes the Kardashians… What are they going to do with their lives in 5-10 years time?!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Totally justified. They annoy the piss out of me too, probably because their heads are stuck so far up their asses that they don’t even have a basic concept of what “work” is.

      • CHH says:

I’m in complete agreement with you about their education. What parent thinks it is ok to not let their kids finish high school. They have the rest of their lives to be adults. These two girls are missing so much. I can’t believe Bruce Jenner went along with this. Kendall at 18 has a 1.4 mill mortgage. The family is flat out nuts.

  14. elisa says:

She is very beautiful and I hope that she doesn’t go the way of her sisters Kim and Khloe with the butt implants, etc.

Yes, her idea of a workaholic is laughable and naive and sheltered, but I wouldn’t expect anything else of her.

That first pic, pulling up her shirt is just … odd. Like she is surprised or startled that she has a belly button?

  15. Ruyana says:

Um “workaholic” – is that what they’re calling it now?

    • word says:

Kris also said Kim is the hardest working business woman she’s ever met. This family is clueless when it comes to defining the word “work”.

  16. Palermo says:

These vain airheads really believe what they are doing is work. They wouldn’t last a day in a real job, with real bosses and real responsibilities. Standing and sitting around making dumb faces is not work, no matter what they told you.

  17. lucy2 says:

The stuff about her once being a track star makes me sad, since her mother encouraged those girls to quit school to be nothing more than looks-obsessed, vapid celebrities. She’s probably a natural athlete and could have competed in college, I bet.

“workaholics”. Ha. Nothing they do is work.
And I bet the only thing Kris cried herself to sleep about was having to part with the $1.4 million for the condo.

  18. Racer says:

I dont understand these girls. If my family had millions I would demand to be educated at a Swiss boarding school, then go to some obnoxious over-priced ivy league college, become a lawyer, a brain surgeon and a space engineer just for fun……then “work hard” at modeling.

Dreaming about your teeth falling out indicates anxiety and insecurity.

    • HappyMom says:

I think teeth falling out in dreams is also anger that you’re not able to express.

    • Size Does Matter says:

I have that tooth dream too, repetitively. Freaks me out every time. I wake up so glad my teeth are there. I’ve also heard it is anxiety related. Makes me a little more sympathetic for her.

P.S. I think she looks a bit like Ally from that Ryan O’Neal love means never having to say you’re sorry movie. Lord I can’t remember her last name or the name of the movie.

  19. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

In the second photo she looks like Sela Ward.

  20. Monkey Towz says:

She’s alright, but I need a REALLY pretty face.
    – Newman, Seinfeld

The vapid selfies & idiotic interviews take away from her beauty imo.

  21. Vampi says:

“workaholoic?!!!!” Maybe my hubby who works 12 hour days building houses could take a lesson from this hard working Klan!
Please! Have a steaming hot cup of STFU! A bitter blend. No sugar.

  22. Lauren says:

This site gives Bruce a good edit. It is nice that he was their for Kendall and Kylie but what about his four other children? By all accounts he walked out on his first wife when his first born Burt was two and his daughter Casey wasn’t even born yet for Linda Thompson. Then he upped and left her and their two kids Brandon and Brody. Brody especially has issues with how his father was never their for him growing up. The few times he tried to talk to Bruce about how he felt, Bruce was dismissive of his feelings. Apparently they blame Kris for him not caring about them. Really though it is all on Bruce as no other adult should have that sort of power from keeping a man from having a relationship with their other children.

I don’t think much of the man. I know the media likes to portray Bruce as some innocent man caught in the clutches of Kris, but from the times I’ve watched their show it seemed like he was unwilling to do anything but be a doormat with Kris while always going after the men in the family like Scott for ‘bad behavior’. For all Bruce’s superiority ,at least someone like Scott can say that he didn’t walk out on his children.

    • J.Mo says:

Thank you for the reminder about real Bruce! I tend to feel bad for him and Rob K but I only sympathize w them relative to the others. “Kris ruins everything!” Lol

    • Melissa says:

      +1

    • Lexie says:

+1 I made a similar but much less detailed comment above. Thanks for the reminder!

  23. Allie says:

She’s pretty but I’d hardly call her stunning. Especially since we never see her without 20 pounds of make up on. She wouldn’t be getting any of this attention if her family didn’t have connections and dating Harry Styles definitely helped.

Yes, she’s such a workaholic that she had to drop out of high school. Over her, over this family. End rant.

  24. Ginger says:

Wow so these young ladies that cannot form a proper sentence wrote a book? Ugh! What self respecting publishing company would give them a contract? Meanwhile I’m sure real authors are being rejected.

  25. jane16 says:

Hahahahahahahaha! {Clutching my sides} I actually don’t have time to read the article, but when I saw that hysterically funny title, just had to add my reaction! My sons say these girls are notorious party hounds. Thanks for the laugh! God, so funny!

  26. Lux says:

I have nothing constructive to add about the Kardashian klan or its members, but I want those shoes in the second pic. Anyone know the brand???

ninja edit: Versace. Turns out there’s this thing called Google I could use…

  27. Lexichl says:

Does anyone else find this the most disturbing part of this interview?

“I used to have the craziest fear of losing teeth. I would have nightmares about that all the time. But it’s the craziest thing, because I feel like that’s one of the easiest things to fix. You just get veneers or something.”

This is mind-blowing for an 18 year old to refer to veneers as “an easy thing to fix”.
Reading that this girl thinks that thousands of dollars of veneers is so simple.. is just gross.

    • Jarredsgirl says:

She’s completely missed the symbolic meaning of her dream. No insight…

I also think her lies about having tigers in the attics and a pot of gold in her room shows the way that she feels about her home life – ie she did not grow up comfortable with her family and life.

    • Emily C. says:

That she does not know that this is a common nightmare shows how cut off she’s been from the rest of the world her whole life. Very sad.

  28. Godwina says:

Holy hotplates, I hate to admit it, but she is stunning. And she “editorializes” pretty well, so yeah. I foresee jobs.

  29. rlh says:

That’s the body Kim wishes she had.

  30. Ice says:

She does look a bit like Sela Ward but also Jacinta Barrett. I swear, to her ‘workaholic’ = a desperate need to pimp out in front of the cameras all the time. The parents should have made these kids go to college.

  31. Jayna says:

I always found her to have a sweetness to her and to be more internal in ways. I hope she evolves into anything other than a typical Kartrashian. I loved how she spoke of her father.

  32. Kristabel says:

Nice facial features but dead eyes. Maybe b/c there isn’t much going on behind them. Only interested in being pretty and famous.

  33. alexandra says:

She is a beautiful young girl, any bad comments come from envy

  34. brianna says:

She is beautiful but the fact that she is part of the K-Klan makes her unlikable by many people in the public (myself included).

  35. Workaha ha ha ha ha ha HA HAAAAAAA! Good one Kendall.

Workaholic in the way you become a workaholic when you have never had, nor ever will have to, worry about money. Whatever. I wish her luck, but someone needs a reality check, lest she GOOPS herself with her adoring public.

  36. Emily C. says:

She has no chance unless she goes to college. Somewhere outside America. Maybe Germany, idk. That she thinks it’s unusual to look at the sky to appreciate its beauty says volumes about how she was raised.

  37. hownowbrowncow says:

These girls will never understand what hard work actually is, nor understand 99% of the life that actually goes on in this planet. While monetarily wealthy, they are experience indigent. They will miss out on a lot of beauty, understanding, and knowledge about our world and our place in it. Not their fault but for them to assume any measure of worldliness or life aptitude, including industriousness, is utter pathos.
