Kelly Clarkson is slowly becoming one of my favorite celebrities. It’s not because of her music (although as pop music goes, hers isn’t bad). It’s because she is super-generous with her fans and with the media. When she married her husband Brandon Blackstock, she posted three wedding photos on her Twitter, which meant we got some great glamour shots of her dress and everything. It’s was awesome.
So now that she’s given birth (on June 12th) to her daughter River Rose, Kelly posted River’s first baby-portrait on Twitter too. A lot of you pointed out that “River Rose” might have Doctor Who connotations, which might be true, I’m not a Whovian. I wouldn’t think Kelly is a Whovian, but maybe. Anyway, I think this portrait is super-cheeseball, but I enjoyed it all the same. Kelly says River was born 6 lbs, 6 oz, but to me River looks like a chunkster. Maybe it’s just the position she’s in though.
Anyway… adorable! Love the “rose pink” baby stroller. Super-fancy, right?

Yeah, both of my sons were under 7 lbs. when born, and they looked scrawnier than River Rose does in that pic. They didn’t have those cute baby-fat arms yet that soon after birth lol, but I don’t see any reason for someone to lie about a baby’s birth weight, so probably just the positioning I guess 🙂 She is a cutie.
I love her wedding dress, but those sleeves, omg. Love the dress minus those sleeves. She seems like a nice person, I wish her the best.
how long were your boys?
I was 6 pounds 8 oz at birth but I was 21 inches long so I looked scrawny. River Rose is only 18 inches long and it may be that she has a big head and full cheeks that makes her look like a chunk

Anyway, my daughter was 6 lbs 4 oz and 19 inches and still managed to look chunky. They carry a lot of fat in their cheeks so that helps. She had spindly frog legs though.

My Flynn was 10 pounds and 1& 1/2 oz, so every newborn looks small compared to him. I never really got the tiny new born stage.
Right! Mine was 9.3 and never wore a “newborn” outfit. She is 2 1/2 now and is big as a 4 year old
The reason we think it’s Whovian inspired is because two of the companions names are in her baby’s name. River Song (Melody Pond). Rose Tyler. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but it’s still fun 🙂
That photo is super tacky. But I think Kelly’s taste is questionable anyway. I mean, look at her wedding dress sleeves! But she’s happy….so bad taste doesn’t really matter I suppose.
She is one of the few celebs that seems genuine to me. Yes, to me her taste is a bit off-but I like the way she handles herself and posts pics on her own time, instead of whoring out for tabloids(not even bothering to side-eye the Kardashians-glaring head-on). Also, have never seen a pram like that. I am glad she is happy, and I think she will be a good mother.

What’s so tacky about the photo? I mean, if the baby had been wearing a bedazzled cowboy hat or something — sure. But it’s a pic of a cute, sleeping baby in a pram. Not exactly worthy of stylistic pearl-clutching, imo.
I agree! I mean bless that baby and Kelly too, I think they both seem like sweethearts but the cutsey photos need to stop. I’m tired of the “family walking down a set of train tracks” and “little girl in a tutu” photo and the “heart made out of my hand in front of my pregnant belly” stuff. Its all just bad. And no newborn should be put in a position like that, it looks strange… and like she’s about to fall out of a rickety pram.
Aww.. Come on! You are going to put all those millions of mommys with digital cameras and pinterest accounts turned aspiring professional photographers out if work!
I think it’s precious, but nonetheless, Kelly is a Texas girl, and most of us do pics like this for newborns.
Fun fact, before Kelly was on American idol, she sang at my cousins wedding, and she is a very sweet girl. I’ve seen her a couple of times since idol, and she remains the same sweet girl.
Loved her wedding photos. The pic is cute because you can tell Kelly is happy, but otherwise, I don’t like headbands or anything like that on a baby. This one isn’t too big though so isn’t as distracting.
I’m not crazy about those, either, but the baby is very sweet.

I believe she is holding the train of her dress. I recall straight, long lace sleeves in another photo I saw and found it a refreshing change from the sleeveless gowns that have dominated the bridal scene for years. Her taste seems old-fashioned, nothing wrong with that. It’s a lot better than many celebrities out there.

Glad she was open as opposed to being mysterious in regard to pics of her baby…how refreshing…she’s not out for anything but sharing the birth of their baby.

I love the photo! I can’t believe that people think it’s cheesy. I know everyone has different tastes but it just looks sweet to me.
I wondered if the lace peeking out on the pram was from Kelly’s dress.

Me too! That is the most adorable baby pic I’ve ever seen. I don’t see how either of the pics are tacky.
8 days after being born she shouldn’t still be 6 lbs. if the baby was born june 12th and the picture was posted on the 20th, newborns gain weight incredibly fast. actually if they don’t gain weight fast enough doctors will tell you to change from breast milk to formula or even add things to their formula.
They gave my son 2 weeks to regain to his birth weight. Babies often lose weight in those first few days and if you are told to supplement their breast milk in that time you are getting bad advice. Be guided by their urine and stool output.
My almost 9lb baby gained weight incredibly slow and I was never told to stop breastfeeding. They were more concerned about what was in her diaper. That’s how you measure feeding success. If a kid has a fast metabolism, as mine does, they may gain much more slowly than other kids and it doesn’t make them unhealthy. I have a running maniacal 18 month old to prove it.
Just a FYI, River Rose is posed in a doll carriage, not a full sized baby carriage. That’s probably why people think she looks big for her weight. I imagine she’d look quite tiny if they had used an actual baby carriage.
