Not that long ago, Donatella Versace hitched her wagon to Lady Gaga. Gaga was the face of Versace, Gaga wore tons of Versace, and Gaga did appearance with Donatella all over the place. Donatella even opened up the Versace archives (with Gianni’s designs!) for Gaga to use. But Gaga and Donatella haven’t been seen together in months. And now Donatella’s new girl is Jennifer Lopez. Good. I would much rather see J.Lo in Versace than Gaga. Jennifer knows how to wear Versace without looking like a Donatella-esque Death Eater.
These are photos from yesterday’s Versace Atelier Haute Couture show in Paris. Donatella gave J.Lo this “controversial” ensemble to wear. It’s a dress/trouser hybrid being called a “tress” (trouser/dress). People had mixed opinions about it – my favorite was the snotty review at The Telegraph, which included this note:
Confused as to how a solo legged pair of trews might sit on one’s torso, we put on our detective hat and zoomed in on many a photo of Lopez’s crotch area. The Let’s Get Loud songstress, it would seem, is actually wearing a tailored concoction of half hot pant and half full trouser leg. A savvy decision from Donatella, of course, to avoid flashing one’s vajazzle in one’s Versace.
I liked that because it was the same thing I did – I looked at Jennifer’s crotch to see if she was flashing her J.Lo biscuit. She’s not. There’s some kind of lining or hot pants or something in play. J.Lo also talked up Donatella’s new collection, saying:
”They did every single look and it was just out of this world. You know, I have a long history with Donatella, obviously, with Versace, and I don’t know, it’s always one of my go-tos because they know my body. Luigi [Massi], their designer, just knows everything about me. It’s just one of those things when you have chemistry with somebody.”
I agree, Jennifer usually looks amazing in Versace. I think Donatella does love that late 80s/90s glamazon look. The House of Versace should be worn by women like Jennifer Lopez and Linda Evangelista and such. Not so much on the size-00 starlets. That being said, I dislike this “tress”.

Is Donatella bald? That’s a Naomi Campbell-esque hairline. Her face scares me. It looks like it’s collapsing from copious drug use. Smoking doesn’t help.
Agree. If you see pics of Donatella from years ago, you can tell her nose and bridge have collapsed. There are rumors of her copious drug use, its prevalent among the fashion circles. She looks like the couturier of the fashion zombie apocalypse.

omg, i always wondered what she looked like before, that is so freaking sad she was beautiful. She’s been let’s just say… odd looking for a long time but this is the worst Ive seen her. I cant believe what she did to herself.
Fake lips (and plastic surgery in general) might seem a good idea when you’re young and your skin is toned, but once you get older you can’t know how you’ll be, and if what you’ve done is going to suit your older face.
Plus you have to add Donatella does a lot of sunbathing, her past addiction trouble, at the time of the photo she still had her nose, now she has what coke has left.

I would never make rude and offensive comments about an older lady like Donatella. She is a talented lady who has done very well in the world of fashion. I don’t like the dress/pants but it is different.

OMG. Donatella! WTH? Gianni was really gorgeous – and Donatella was beautiful at one time. But this! This!? This is insane. She looks like a monster. How terribly sad.
It would be good if this wasn’t from illness- was going to make some snark but she could be on medications that make her sick. It would be good if there were magazines that would promote weight gain in a healthy way – the opposite of Womans World. Get bikini ready – how to gain a healthy fifty and look good in a bikini – it saves money on fillers too.

Happy to see a voluptuous figure as a designer’s current muse. I appreciate JLo’s booty and prefer a curvy figure to a stick boy figure. I’m not crazy about the tress, but I do think it probably looks best on JLo. I laughed at the “fierce” comment about her. She does always try hard to look fierce.

I always try to give people the benefit of the “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. But I have to comment – Donatella looks like a burn or horrid car crash victim. What has she done to herself? She barely looks human. Maybe it was grief that drove her to do this? I cannot imagine anyone saying to her that she looks good.
I have to agree with the people who say J.Lo can wear the heck out of this. I kind of dig it. Not sure I could pull it off, but I’d try.
This is definitely a JLo outfit. Not very one could pull this off, but then not everyone has her assets.
I have to say I respect the hell out of Donatella and what she has done for fashion, but she creeps the bejesus out of me. Imagine running into her in a darkened hallway. Or backstage at a show. Would scare ten years off your life. Poor lady.

I wish Donatella hadn’t done whatever she did to her face, but I really do admire her for just staying out there anyway. Like it or not, this is her face. She doesn’t hide it and just lives life out in the open. I was impressed with one interview I saw with her, so she’s definitely an intelligent and interesting person. I imagine people forget about her face pretty quickly when actually talking with her and it seems quite normal, unusual but not scarey.
I can’t take my eyes off Donatella’s face long enough to get a good look at the outfit jlo is wearing.

Donatella seems like a nice woman, she’s been through a lot with her brother’s murder. I always feel sympathy for her. She’s done a wonderful job keeping the Versace line going.
