Kate Bosworth learned how to cook so she could ‘nurture’ her step-daughter

bos1

I like to check in with Kate Bosworth every now and then, even if she hasn’t had anything going on since 2010. And even then, the only thing she had going on in the gossip sense was that she was banging Alexander Skarsgard. These days, The Bos has married her Skars-rebound, Michael Polish, and that’s about it. Not a lot of film or TV projects on the horizon, but she’s fashioned a career for herself out of being “fashionable” and appearing on the occasional magazine cover. Somehow, she finagled her way onto the September cover of InStyle UK. How is The Bos deserving of a September cover? I don’t know. But it’s a pretty good cover (I like that they didn’t Photoshop her heterochromia) and the shoot is okay (the black & white pic is stunning). Some highlights from the interview:

Kate Bosworth is talking about starting a family! The 31-year-old actress, who married director Michael Polish in August 2013, says being a stepparent to Polish’s 16-year-old daughter, Jasper, has made her want to have children of her own.

“After ordering pizza for the third time when she first started coming over, I knew I had to learn how to cook because I wanted to nurture her,” Bosworth says in the latest issue of InStyle U.K. “These maternal instincts kicked in.”

The blond beauty says she and Polish have talked about starting a family.

“I know that it’s going to be tough, but Michael and I will find humor in it,” the cover girl said of motherhood. “We’re already convinced that our kids will do things that are hilarious.”

[From E! News]

You know how I keep a list of people who are interesting or notable interviews? The Bos has never made the list. She’s super-boring. And I really do think that her relationship with Michael is kind of weird. But I guess she’s trying to be a good step-mom. God bless.

As for what she’s promoting these days… well, I guess she does have at least one thing she’s trying to do. She’s launching the Style Thief app, where you take a photo of someone’s street style and the app will show you clothes that are similar and you can shop the stuff online. You can read more about it here.

Gotta be honest, that Style Thief app sounds awesome! If you really are able to search from abstract photos like she said, I’d use it all the time.

    • An says:

      That app sounds amazing!

      • Nya says:

Most reports say it doesn’t even really work. You take a picture of plain shorts and it’ll recommend like some crazy patterned dress for $500.

      • An says:

        Oh, that sucks. 😕

      • hutter says:

@Nya: Somebody made that complaint to Kate on Instagram and she said you could modify the search options and it will only show you stuff within a certain price range.

      • Kali says:

That’s really cool that you can modify the price range. Set it stupidly expensive and just kill some time looking at pretty things at work. Set it in your budget and possibly find something you can wear yourself. Awesome!!

      • Jen says:

It’s not the price range thing, it’s that the app can’t recognize things very well. So even if you just want some plain shorts, it won’t recognize that and it’ll show you pictures of dresses and shoes instead because it’s bad tech.

    • Macey says:

How much do you want to bet Leann already has this and runs BG’s pics on it daily?…talk about a SWF’s dream app.

    • Gina says:

What’s wrong with simply saying to someone who’s style or item of clothing you like “I love ____, where did you get it?”. It seems silly to me to take someone’s picture and search when you can simply ask them.

    • Valois says:

      Take a look at wheretoget.it – I love that page 🙂

  2. GiGi says:

Kate Bosworth reminds me of a girl I used to live with – somewhat pretty, but generally bland in person – showstopper in stills. She’s the reverse Hiddles. In motion she’s meh, but in pictures – wowza!

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

A little boring, but harmless? Cooking is a joy to me, and I understand what she means by nurturing her step-daughter by cooking for her. I love to share food with other people, and it’s a way to express love or friendship to me. But if you don’t happen to like it, I think you can find other ways to nurture.

    • MonicaQ says:

Thanks you for explaining cooking in a way I feel. People think I’m nuts at work but I love to bake and all those cookies/torts/pies/cakes/scones have to not be in my house so they come to work!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, baking is my favorite. And thank God for work people or I would weigh 500 pounds. But it’s just so satisfying, isn’t it? I start to relax as soon as I get out the butter and eggs.

      • HappyMom says:

I love to cook and entertain. I’ll bring people meals if they’re sick or had a baby. I definitely see it as nurturing. But baking freaks me out. I think because you have to be so exact-and somehow everything I bake manages to be both raw and burnt.

      • Kali says:

@HappyMom: I often find that people either tend to be “cookers” or “bakers”. Some people, such as yourself, have the ability to find a few random things in the cupboard and make an awesome meal. Some people need strict guidelines. I am one of those people because I missed the cooking gene in ways I can’t even begin to explain… 😉

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Agree, Kali, I love cooking and baking, but am much more “natural” at baking. It just makes sense to me. I can cook only if I have a good recipe. Those shows where they give you ingredients and tell you to make something from them without a recipe astound me. I would just stand there with my mouth open. And possibly wet my pants.
Happymom, I have friend like that. The burnt and raw thing made me laugh. Once she tried to broil a cake. Lol

      • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

For those who think they are bad at baking or cooknig the old cook books (a great reason to visit the local thrift shop) ie Amy Vanderbilts complete cook book – are gems and explain complicated recipes simply and use basic ingredients. Amy Vanderbilt Rocks 🙂

      • HappyMom says:

Yes-I would do so well at those cooking shows where there are a few random ingredients and timer. But seriously-recipe for a chocolate cake and frosting? You will be sneaking it into your napkin on the sly. My friends know when they come to dinner at our house and offer to bring something, I’m always (and only) going to say “bring dessert”. 🙂

      • JM says:

I’m from the South so when you come to my house, I HAVE to feed you. It’s the law! And since I’ve been “baked” for 20 years, I also happen to be the McGyver of munchies.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

        Food talk = everything.
I actually curl up with cookbooks like they’re the latest best seller – the vintage ones are awesome. I am never happier than when I am in the kitchen. I am jealous of Gnatty’s ninja baking skills. I do okay in the baking dept but always hold my breath until the damn thing comes out of the oven. MonicaQ – scones? Really? Gah…so jelly right now. But yeah, i am one of those guys who can take the condiments out of the take-out bag and whip up Thanksgiving dinner lol.

      • tealily says:

I find it really odd that she is 31 and seemingly never cooked, like, at all. How has she managed to feed herself? Surely she doesn’t eat pizza every single day. Cooking doesn’t have to be a grand production. Even sandwiches are better than nothing!

  4. DailyNightly says:

I’m no fan of Kate’s but I think she looks really good in these pics. This is the type of stuff she should be doing.

  5. Wallamalooo says:

Yawnsome but one nice thing – I like the pic of her in the swimming cap. The dress on the cover is hideous tho.

  6. SpookySpooks says:

She doesn’t look like herself in the black and white photo.

  7. Ktscrott says:

Is that even her in the swimsuit cap?

  8. Nya says:

“I like that they didn’t Photoshop her heterochromia”

Why would they do that? It’s her only striking feature. This reminds me of an article on Jezebel called “Who the f*** gives a s*** about Kate Bosworth?” Because she’s a painfully skinny white girl she manages to nab a major cover for literally no other purpose than to talk about her marriage (a marriage she claims to be “super private” about in other interview). Ridiculous.

    • Falula says:

Was coming to post that exactly.

    • Irishae says:

That Photoshop comment has additional hilarity considering it appears they did all they could to make her look like someone else in that black and white photo. But brownie points for keeping her eye color the same! Huh?

  9. Lindy79 says:

I hope the irony of this girl saying she is learning to cook to nurture her husband’s daughter is not lost on anyone.

Unless she meant … not food

That swimcap shot doesn’t look like her at all

    • TG says:

It wasn’t lost on me and I am still laughing about it.

She is so gorgeous I just wish she would eat and exercise so that she is fit again. That movie Blue Crush is one of my favorites and she looked so hot in that movie.

    • tealily says:

Exactly! How can you be 31 and not know how to cook at all? I guess if you don’t eat, there’s no need to worry about cooking.

  10. bns says:

Why is she on the cover of anything?

    • Lucy2 says:

I can’t figure that out either. Other than that app, it doesn’t seem like she has anything to promote or talk about.

    • kibbles says:

I haven’t seen her in anything noteworthy in many, many years. I don’t get it either.

  11. Jenny12 says:

At least she doesn’t seem anorexic anymore. Ha, I’m a mom and my sole cooking ability is limited to the slow cooker. Like I tell my kids, at least dinner is done when we get home.

  12. Trishizle says:

Is it just me or did they totally Photoshop her to look like a completely different person?

  13. littlemissnaughty says:

She will never entertain me again the way she did when she was wh*ring out her prior relationship. I loved it so much, it was SO entertaining. These days I feel like she’s actively trying to be as bland as she can possibly be. WHY? You have the potential!

Not gonna lie, I still like to watch Blue Crush now and then on a Sunday morning. Her face is really amazing, that bone structure makes me green with envy.

  14. mystified says:

I find her to be so uninteresting. And reading this article and looking at her meh pictures hasn’t changed my mind. I feel as if I just wasted 5 minutes of my life.

  15. allons-y alonso says:

Never been a fan of The Bos but I respect what she’s saying about cooking. I personally love cooking. It’s fun and for me a great stress reliever. The best bit is that it’s something that you can either do on your own or with other people and then share it. 🙂

  16. Magnolia says:

Kate talks about this kid as if she is a child and needs to be tucked in and cuddled. I doubt many 16 year old girls would fall in love with their young stepmothers because they poured them a bowl of cereal. Who wants to bet that if she has her own kids that she leaves the nurturing to the nannies?

  17. Chrissy says:

“Once again the oh-so-private and talentless Kate Bosworth is in a magazine talking about her boring marriage to her equally emaciated and boring
    husband!”
    – Dear InStyle UK, I fixed it for ya.

  18. Lv says:

I saw Homefront her movie with Jason Statham and Franco. She played a meth addict. So painfully thin and I doubt she had to lose any weight for the role. I give celebrities a pass on being underweight because it’s just theie bizarre culture. Same for Emma Stone.

  19. Courtney says:

Love her eyes! Def her best feature.

  20. hownowbrowncow says:

She certainly didn’t learn how to cook so she could eat.

  21. Lydia says:

They need to stop calling her an actress.

She should’ve done a lifestyle brand like Goop. Instead she went with cheap, tacky jewelry and now an app that doesn’t work.

  22. Josefa says:

She’s just so painfully uninteresting. Her personality is not a vanilla, every-day-nice woman type like Amy Adams or Jennifer Conelly. She’s unusually boring. Like, she’s so forgettable she’s memorable for that.
