Last year’s Vanity Fair Oscar Party was canceled due to the writer’s strike, which ended just two weeks before the Oscars. This year the traditionally lavish affair was scaled back due to the economy. Fewer people were on the guest list, and I heard Tom O’Neil from The Envelope.com half joke on CNN yesterday that chicken pot pie was on the menu at the party.
Judging from the photos, the guests, especially the Oscar winners, just looked happy to be there. Some actresses changed into different gowns for the event, with Penelope Cruz, Marisa Tomei and Alicia Keys in fresh dresses. Unfortunately Kate Winslet wore the same gown that she did to the ceremony.
Mickey Rourke wore a bizarre silk asian print blazer paired with holey jeans and a cowboy hat. He was probably comfortable at least.
Rachel Weisz looked ridiculous in a fuchsia skirt with a black shiny bodice and gladiator heels.
Despite rumors that Madonna would debut her 22 year-old boy toy she seemed to show up single, muscles bulging.
It was the first joint red carpet appearance for on-again couple Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer. The two happily posed together, with Aniston looking up at Mayer adoringly.
According to The Envelope.com, many Oscar presenters, including Natalie Portman and Daniel Craig, left the ceremony early to head to the party. They should have cut a full hour out of the show. It was incredibly entertaining but three hours is too much to ask people to sit through, even the audience.

I watched the whole thing and noticed Jennifer was not smiling to much when she was sitting in the crowd, unlike Angelina which smiled a lot. Jennifer’s dress was beautiful! Jada’s dress has to much fabric for her tiny body, Rachel Weisz seems to have an obsession with that type of skirt(not appropriate for the Oscars)and Mickey Rourke looks like he got those jeans out of his hamper! They look filthy!The jacket is fine, but couldn’t he make an effort to wear the right pants with it?
Jen had on too much make up. What was with that stupid braid. She was so nervous like she never been before audience. Then she looked like a angry and evil. She didn’t look happy at all.
Madonna had her own party to attend!
Why didn’t Penelope wear that gorgeous dress at the ceremony?
Viola Davis : the fabric is horrid and so is the colour. Poor choice all around for a beautiful woman.
On Jada: I agree with the post above, she is too short for that kind of dress.
Hate Gwen Stefani’s dress, very unflattering on her.
Marion looks regal and Marissa Tomei was my favorite last night.

I LOVES KATE WINZLETS dress. It was very unique and beautiful. I loved the 2 tone dress, the different fabrics, and the one strap was very elegant. I also loved the hair it was so retro and it went with her face perfectly.
I thought Mileys dress was too fabulous and elegant for the likes of her

As much as I didn’t want to jump on the “Hate on Aniston” bandwagon, I thought the same.
Anyone else notice her hairline? With as much as we see her tanning does she really need bronzer?
As far as all the others I actually noticed:
Angelina was a little bland, but I loved her bold accessories.
Miley’s dress was beautiful…but it’s freekin’ Miley…I agree with another poster that someone else should of wore that dress.
Bouyancy’s Mom should of made that dress
in her actual size. Strike that, not at all.
SJP’s hair looked nice, but that dress is better suited as a medieval torture device!
Natalie Portman was gorgeous.
Evan Rachel Wood was gorgeous.
Anne Hathaway needs a new hairstylist.
Kate’s hair was comparable to a Ken doll’s. The dress I’m undecided on.
Heidi’s dress was so crazy I think it’s making me like it..
natalie portman was the winner in the fashion arena – she looked absolutely beautiful from head to toe, as always.

I thought Weisz looked lovely (minus the bad shoes).
Also, Aniston did not look nervous on stage. Are you guys really serious when you say that? Or is it some inside joke that I don’t get? She was as casual and relaxed as could be. Bad dress choice, though. Made her look thick in the middle.
MB Travis: They have to say something negative about Aniston at every turn; it doesn’t matter that she did absolutely nothing to raise their ire.
Anyway, “with Aniston looking up at Mayer adoringly.”? If you and I are looking at the same header picture, I’d say she’s more looking toward the photographer to her right.
And could someone please tell me what is happening with Debra Messing’s dress? It’s giving me a headache with all that pattern in green and blue on what looks like silver. Blech.

Darren Aronofsky was cheated–he needed to be in the best director category. Rachel looks fab. They not at the show, mais non? So this is why she is in a more casual outfit.

It’s not my favorite, but Marion’s dress for this party looks much better than that mess she wore at the Oscars. Her pin-straight hair, however, is not as great as the updo she wore at the Oscars.
