Gwyneth Paltrow admits she gets non-surgical Thermage laser skin treatments

goop3

Gwyneth Paltrow has a new interview with Hello Magazine, and surprisingly enough, she’s not talking about how difficult her life is or how she works harder than all of the peasants combined. Hello spoke to Gwyneth about her best and worst features, and surprisingly enough, Gwyneth admitted that she has some physical features that she’s not happy with. Shocking!

“I think my best feature is my legs,” the 41-year-old mother of two told the publication. “But if I could change anything I wish I could get wrinkles and sun damage reversed without looking like I’d done anything.”

The Oscar-winning actress went on to say she’d rather stick with her wrinkles and sun damage “for now,” but admitted she has used the non-surgical Thermage laser treatment which allegedly eliminates “‘turkey neck’, loose jowls, [and] sagging skin.”

“It’s non-invasive but it’s quite painful, like having your face smacked with a rubber band that has an electric shock in it,” she said. “But it works.”

As for the little things she can do herself to take care of her skin, Paltrow said she thinks “it’s a lot about exercise.”

“I do an hour of cardiovascular activity five days a week and I think that sweating is detoxifying and is really good for skin elasticity,” she explained, adding that she’s also very careful about taking off her makeup before bed and exfoliating her face when she’s been using makeup.

“I didn’t really start looking after my skin until I was 39,” Paltrow confessed. “Now I use a hot cloth cleanser and Clarisonic Mia and I’ve seen a real difference in my skin. I apply Restorsea moisturizer, plus a little cream blusher and mascara, and then I’m ready.”

[From Reality TV World]

Ah, this might have been an undercover advertisement for her Restorsea contract, which is made from fish placenta (or something). Goop is getting a lot of money to shill Restorsea, so it’s interesting that she’s saying that she’s not happy with her skin. Personally, I think she looks fine for a woman in her 40s. She has some sun damage and some wrinkles, but I prefer that to plastic surgery and waxy Botox and fillers. A lot of people swear by those laser treatments and that’s one of the rare celebrity indulgances that I would actually like to try. It does seem non-invasive and I would like to know how much it hurts (a smack in the face?). I wouldn’t get it though, because it’s crazy-expensive. According to the Daily Mail, Thermage treatments cost: “full face (£3,900), half face (£2,900), or just eyes (£1,900).” Crazy.

Oh, and Goop was hanging out with Jessica Seinfeld over the weekend. Jessica posted an IG photo with the message: “Okay…take it from me…hang out with people who are way uglier than you….it makes you feel so much better about yourself.”

    Eh. She still look basic.

    • Lady Macbeth (Hiddles F.) says:

+1 lol I came to say exactly the same sentence XD

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I agree. She looks fine, but I don’t think she has especially nice skin or hair.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

You’re right–she doesn’t. But I like that she spends SO much time makeup-free. It’s refreshing to see that in a celebrity.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

True, and she doesn’t seem at all bothered by having makeup free photos. Could be her skin is nice in person.

      • Gea says:

I like Gwyneth P! I know, she is an excentric and fass about her style, cooking and other things. Ok, I am not blind follower but like her Goop. Just checking on styles, menus, places , And, yes Thermage laser skin treatment is one of the best thing you can do for your skin. I have done few basic laser rejuvenating treatments for my acne prone skin and results are still lasting. But after treatments sun is big no no, my sessions are done back in the winter sunless days. And yes, SPF 50 is the must for me even I have olive skin. And back to Gwyneth, I always liked her face . She have very classical features and she keeps herself in shape. Also I like that she keeps her face very much natural not going crazy with all treatments /surgeries she can for sure afford.

      • kennedy says:

THIS. I totally don’t get why she thinks anyone cares what products she uses on her hair or especially face/skin when I wouldn’t consider either to be special. She has really bad skin — lots of sun damage and it looks very dry. Her hair looks permanently fried. Honestly, I only want to know what Cate Blanchett/Emma Stone/Jlaw/Lupita/Kerry Washington are using on their skin because they really have wonderful, clear, beautiful skin. Not GOOP.

      • Tiffany :) says:

” I like that she spends SO much time makeup-free. ”

        Good point, I agree.
I usually do light make up (concealer, mascara) on the weekends, but recently I have been doing one day completely makeup free. It is kind of pathetic how naked I feel without it, though!

      • JennySerenity says:

So…I no longer feel like an alien. I am always amused by Goopie and kind of like her, despite her peasant free attitude! It feels refreshing to find a page where I just don’t comment bc the theme is GOOP-bashing.

Yeah, Thermage treatments are the bomb. This, from a chick who used tanning booths, iodine & baby oil instead of sunscreen. I also appreciate that G. goes makeup-free so often. Yeah, her hair is perma-fried, but her skin looks better than average for a chick my age. Thanks for the GOOP post that makes me feel free to be a non-hater!

    • Candace says:

She says she has a lot of sun damage and wrinkles and that she didn’t start taking care of her skin until she turned 39. So I think she’s just being honest about how old she looks and what she’s doing now to take care of her skin. She posts unflattering pictures of herself because I think she wants the world to see the real her – bad hair, wrinkles and all. I guess that’s cool. Better than making yourself up with 20 makeup brushes for a selfie.

  2. GiGi says:

Those prices for Thermage are insane. In my area, you can have you full stomach done for $500/treatment. It’s an intense treatment for face, though… I wouldn’t do it when there are so many other face treatments like RF, IPL, etc. that are much less expensive and not nearly as painful. And I would think her skin would look better if she were really getting any of these treatments.

I’ve been getting facials with a little lasering/RF here and there since I was 25. It’s definitely worth it! I was recently having my nails done with a girlfriend and the nail tech asked if she was my mother! Yikes!

    • MrsBPitt says:

I have some sun spots on my face and would love to do lasering to get them off, but I’m afraid it could make them worse instead of erasing them…Have you had any sun spots laserd off? Did it work well?

      • GiGi says:

I don’t have sun spots but I do get hyperpigmentation if I have a blemish. The IPL in particular has really worked well for those! I find it painless (for a 90 minute facial plus IPL, I pay $200) and after the treatment, the dark spots come to the surface and kind of slough off. I have medium toned olive skin and haven’t had any of my spots get worse at all!

      • Ramona Q. says:

Yes, I have pale, freckley skin. I’ve had sun spots removed with lasers. It works, it didn’t leave scars, it made me look younger and my complexion brighter. I wish I could afford to do it every year after summer.

      • littlestar says:

I’ve had sun spots lasered off, it definitely works! Pigmentation caused by hormones however, is a lot harder to get rid of :(.

    • Wren33 says:

I have had IPL done for rosacea, and it hurts like a b(*&#. That said, I am very fair with sensitive skin.

    • littlestar says:

I was just coming down here to say that, where the hell are they getting these prices from? I have done several laser treatments to my face, and they cost $450 each (still pricey, but no where near the prices the DM quoted!).

Yep, the laser hurts like a beyotch, but the results are so worth it. Smooth skin, pigmentation gone, smaller pores, it’s great!

      • Just here says:

Can I ask what RF and IPL stand for? I’m curious, I’ve never heard of them, but they sound like something I’d like to research. 🙂

      • GiGi says:

Just Here – You can search by RF, FotoFacial or IPL. RF is Radio Frequency… IPL is Intermittent Pulsed Light? Or Laser? Something like that.

    • Isadora says:

Seeing some before-after photos via Google I was like “GIMME THAT!!!” *lol* The Thermage results are really good, even if I keep in mind that they probably only took their best cases for such photos. Still… couldn’t afford it anyway, not even the other stuff (IPL or RF or what it’s called), hell, even normal hairdresser prices are horrible lol. But if I would be a celebrity with that kind of money, I would totally do it.

GiGi, you said you started when you were 25. May I ask how old you are now and how often you got a RF/IPL treatment? Sounds like you got great results!!

  3. MrsBPitt says:

So what was Jessica Seinfeld trying to say…that SHE should hang out with people uglier than herself? What an odd thing to write…

    • Meredith says:

Kind of weird comment. Is she saying Goop is ugly or being sarcastic and saying Goop is pretty?

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think she’s being sarcastic and implying Goop is pretty way prettier than she is. Sort of a joke that fell flat. Too confusing.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

What Goodnames said. A really dumb joke though.

      • TG says:

Yes I think Jessica was trying to put herself down by complemeing her friends in a false humility kind of way. Waiting for the flood of complements to come in which would inevitably compare the 3 women to see who is prettier. Obviously this crowd hasn’t grown up beyond the 3rd grade or so. And since I haven’t either I will say the other lady is the most attractive with Gwynnie coming in second and that obnoxious woman with a head full of bleach coming in a distant third.

      • lamamu says:

Jessica Seinfeld just seems like a pill.

  4. DrM says:

She looks her age…nothing wrong with that but I wouldn’t be spending the huge money on treatments that she does. It isn’t making much of a difference. Noxzema and Oil of Olay for me, I’ve used them for years and I have good skin.

    • Isadora says:

For me it’s also important that every product I use on my skin is not tested on animals. And in the end a big part is still genetics.

  5. poppy says:

no plug for trollcy anderson method?

can she not pay them to slap her hair while she’s there?

  6. Pinky says:

Jessica Seinfeld is the worst. The. Worst.

    • tmbg says:

Oh gosh yes. I looked at her Instagram and became instantly nauseated. She is a little arrogant snot.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Why is she bad? I know nothing about her (except that she’s married to Jerry) but I thought her Instagram was fine? Just pics of animals and food…
I feel like that’s what my IG account would look like if I had one.

      • lisa says:

i think because of the way she got w jerry the week she returned from her honeymoon

then how she wrote that book that was very similar to one that had already came aout then jerry harassed the other author

in this picture she looks like the boy who shampoos my hair

      • tmbg says:

It was months ago and I can’t remember exactly what I saw (maybe it was a video on there or on YT instead?), but she just seemed fake and very Valley-girlish even though she’s a New Yorker. Maybe it’s just me, but I get snob vibes. Hey, she hangs out with Goop. 😛

      • FLORC says:

        Lisa
I remember hearing about that. She really makes Goop look likable.

    • Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

That cookbook thing was A Low Vera.

  7. hutter says:

Is that Robbie Williams’ wife Ayda in the picture with Gwyneth and Jessica? It looks like her but I’m not sure.

  8. s says:

In that photo with Jessica Seinfeld she looks like she did in the old Brad Pitt days. More casual and less forced. It suits her.

  9. Livan says:

I think Gwyneth looks really young in the picture with Jessica Seinfeld!

  10. Bshg says:

All that and she still looks her age, if not older.. You can’t really reverse sun damage on your skin. (Same goes for the effects of smoking for decades, Gwinnie). I’d tell her to relax and just lay off the torture.

  11. Adrien says:

Thermage is OK but there are similar radio frequency treatments that are as effective but won’t burn your wallet. Much, much cheaper to get Thermage procedure in Asia like Manila, Thailand, Middle East. And the doctors are highly qualified because the company should accredit them first before they allow them to operate their machines.
This is the first time Gwyneth gave a good skin tips and product recommendations. At least she is admitting that having great skin in your 40s is hardwork. I’m sick of reading, ” well, you know, balance diet, enough sleep, lots of water and exercise” b.s.

  12. Jenny12 says:

Jessica Seinfeld, that look is not for you. At all.

  13. mkyarwood says:

Good girl. That’s the kind of thing you need to tell us!

  14. eliza says:

Good grief, Jessica Seinfeld looks absolutely horrible. Blonde, short hair is not the look for her.

  15. BendyWindy says:

I know others have mentioned that it’s a particular “look,” but I still can’t get over how such fabulously wealthy women have such terrible hair. Those dye jobs are so bad.

    • Nicolette says:

I don’t understand it either. With their money they should have some gorgeous hair, not fried up one dimensional color jobs.

  16. Mitch Buchanan Rocks! says:

Couldn’t understand the Jessica Seinfeld references then looked again at the photo – she is barely recognizable – maybe she is afraid Missy is steaking her out.

  17. Sumodo1 says:

Thermage hurts like a muthafukka. I’d never do it again, but it took 10 years off me.

  18. may23 says:

Wow. With all those treatments, diet and whatnot she doesn’t look as amazing as you’d think she would… Compared to Vergara or Brinkley or even Jane Seymour, a much older woman, Paltrow looks her age and not exactly fresh.

  19. FLORC says:

Call me cheap or old fashion, but I lay off alcohol to excess, don’t smoke, wear sunblock, drink loads of water and sweat it all out the next day.
You can spend all you like on new treatments to improve the health of your skin and appearance, but how you treat your body always comes to the surface.

  20. Kate2 says:

I think she looks very young in the pic with the girls.

I don’t know, I guess I don’t think she looks as bad as some others here think she does. Her hair is too yellow and could use a good deep condition but I don’t think she looks old at all. I think she looks pretty good. JMHO.

I didn’t start caring about my skin until about 39 as well. And I had sun damage and smoked for years. I went (and continue to) go a bit nuts on my skin care now, though. I use the Clarisonic too, its works great after an initial adjustment period. My saving grace is that I have very oily skin so I have few to no wrinkles. And I still moisturize the shit out of my face morning and night. And I use Mederma on dark spots, it works pretty well for me.

  21. Bread and Circuses says:

“I do an hour of cardiovascular activity five days a week”

Holy crap, that sounds like a *lot* to me.

Me, the quasi-reformed couch potato. In other words, I may not know of what I speak when it comes to exercising.

  22. bex says:

Maybe she has a lot of makeup free selfies because she has the same drab face with or without it.
I’d like to see her invest in some highlighter and a brow shadow
