James McAvoy covers Nylon Guys: gorgeous or not scruffy enough?

JM cover

Your boyfriend James McAvoy covers the September issue of Nylon Guys magazine. It’s a decent photoshoot, but I wish the whole shoot had been done in the country setting. They shouldn’t have relied so much on that white background for the shoot. I want to see McAvoy frolicking in a country garden in questionable sweaters. Anyway, James is promoting The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, which he says he turned down at first. The project was supposed to be two separate films, one for his story and one for Jessica Chastain’s story. But they put the two films together to make one film (thanks, Harvey Weinstein). Here are some highlights from the mag:

On his career: “For a long time, I was playing the normal guy in an exceptional world, or the normal guy who was in a relationship with someone much more weird and interesting. I was holding the audience’s hand, guiding them into a world they weren’t familiar with, keeping them onside when things got grotesque….Basically I was letting everybody else do the fireworks.”

On his past roles: “The last two or three years have been so unlike what I was doing for the 10 years before them…. There’s a part I’ve been offered and really want to do, but I was worried about taking it because the character is a proper mental case. And I feel like it’s been a couple of years of solely playing mental cases,” says McAvoy citing roles in Welcome to the Punch, Trance, and Filth.

On his role in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: The Scottish actor says he initially turned down the starring role in The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby because its subject matter was “too close to the bone” for someone whose life was the picture of domestic bliss. “Then two or three years later….they had something like four days to save the film, so they came back to me. At that point, my kid wasn’t brand new anymore, so that made it a bit more feasible.”

Michael Fassbender on McAvoy: “Oh, he’s lethal! You’ll find him hiding underneath cars, waiting for you. He once tried to break into my trailer through the skylight. It’s like being in one of those Pink Panther films, and he’s Cato jumping out of the freezer. Just when you think the day’s over, you come home to find James sitting on your toilet with a BB gun.”

[From Nylon Guys]

If I came home to find James McAvoy sitting on my toilet with a BB gun… well, I’m not sure what I would do. Take off my clothes? Perhaps. Maybe offer to cook for him.

I do want to see TDOER, but I bet it won’t even come to my theater. It seems pretty art-house-y, but you never know. Here’s the latest trailer – I think James looks solid in this, but I’m actually a little worried that Chastain has been miscast.

This man can do no wrong. He is completely welcome to sit on my toilet with a BB gun and a huge smile. The only way it could get any better is for him to be in there with Idris Alba who would be wearing that blue suit. *looks around for ice water*

    • Lilacflowers says:

That combo would be rather perfect, wouldn’t it? But as Fassy said, possibly lethal.

    • Sunny says:

He is the greatest. Saw him at a Q &A panel at a film festival and he was so funny and genuine. I felt like I needed to fan myself he was so sexy. 🙂

    • Rice says:

I want him. I’ve wanted him since I saw his delectable ass in The Last King of Scotland. Meet me in the toilet, James.

      • Louminary says:

        I’ve wanted him since Shameless!
I had no idea who he was or who he would come to be, but I fell in love with him then!

      • Sunny says:

British tv special series, State of Play. Loved him as the scumbag reporter. My devotion was reaffirmed after Starter for Ten.

      • Chem says:

Honestly, I’ve wanted him since Narnia!

    • Jenny12 says:

Possibly lethal, but I’m willing to risk it. *climbs back into cold shower*

  2. Nick says:

He’s such a bore. The movie looks good but that’s thanks to Chastain and Viola Davis.

  3. Abbott says:

It’s being released as three films: His, Her, and Them. (or something like that)

    • T.C. says:

What? Is that like a prequel, movie, and sequel?

      • Abbott says:

One film is ‘her’ perspective, another is ‘his’ perspective, and the third is ‘their’ perspective. Same story, different points of view.

      • Anon says:

No, I believe it is the same story told by their different perspectives. Them is a combination of both perspectives.

I may be wrong though. 🙂

  4. Maria says:

I didn’t understand the questionable sweater comment until that picture.

    I like it, a lot.

Also, I really like him in Trance and Welcome To the Punch, he’s a great actor!

  5. Nur says:

Its not the lack of scruffy but smth else.. He is pretty much the most attractive star on the planet for me, yet they somehow managed to uglify him in the shots. What is it? The hair? The eyebrows that look plucked and misshaped? His skin? What on earth is going on?

    • ichsi says:

Same here. He is SO beautiful but the photographer obviously doesn’t know what to do with him. He’s a tiny Scotsman with the most gorgeous eyes and lips, who is mischievous/boyish charm personified. Don’t put him in front of a white wall, overexpose his already pale skin or put him into boring cool-model-guy poses. Seriously. What a bad shoot.

  6. Lady Macbeth (Hiddles F) says:

He is not my favourite for the fictional boyfriend spot, but I love him as an actor. Quite interested in watching his new projects! And LOL about Fassbender saying what we already thought of James XD

  7. Audrey says:

    MMMMM

He’s my number one. So gorgeous and seems like a really great guy too

  8. als says:

Does he walk on water too?
I am sorry, I like him as an actor but his life seems to be picture perfect and perfection always brings out the worst in me.
I saw an interview for this movie and the director/ writer is a friend of Jessica Chastain. From what I understood the movie and script were made around her or for her but I agree, there’s something off with her part, she doesn’t look romantic enough for this story. James however, is Perfect for it.

    • Mia4S says:

Perfect? Being raised by your grandparents after your parents marriage imploded, not seeing your father after age 9 but having repeated stories in the press linking your name to your father and half-brother following their arrests for coke dealing (after half-bother did time for aggravated assault)? Not to mention having to drop out of a film after your only child was born dangerously premature? Yep, perfect life. No struggles there huh?

      • M.A.F. says:

I don’t follow his life at all but my goodness. Talk about a back story.

      • T.C. says:

        Thanks Mia

I didn’t know anything about McAvoy’s background. He comes across as a boyscout from a perfect nuclear family. I don’t think you need to be a brute or controversial to be interesting. We have many interesting actresses with no drama in their personal like. Also true that no one is perfect.

    • ichsi says:

Should he go off the rails then, throw tantrums and publically be an a-hole to seem less perfect to you? Just because he seems to have his life together doesn’t mean it always was that way. And I find it rather refreshing to finally have someone who appears to be a decent person instead of a brutish diva.

      • Leaflet says:

Actually, James Mcavoy is the only celebrity that I know of that lives a “true minimalist lifestyle” compared to all these other celebs that constantly preach the “minimizing of the carbon footprint”, and do the exact opposite. *Ahem, Gisele Bundchen * This guy has been through a lot in his lifetime and prefers a drama free, low key lifestyle. I mean, people didn’t even know he was dating and married to his wife until some time after. Truth, from the way I perceive it, is that he has gone through a lot of pain in life, by way of his childhood, and he prefers to live a mundane lifestyle of love with his wife.

  9. sigh((s)) says:

Chastain does seem like a miscast. She stood out to me, and not in a good way.

  10. jessica6 says:

Meh. He doesn’t at all turn my crank. Good actor, but…pass.

In the first photo he somewhat resembles Jude Law, or it just me?

  11. InvaderTak says:

Why are they trying to makes him into the bad boy? He seem more nice and cuddly. Agree about the country part of the shoot. Should focus on that more.

  12. Mia4S says:

Not a fan of the photo shoot but he remains lovely. You also have to love a guy who can rattle Fassbender. 😉

  13. serena says:

This man needs more love. Well, he has plenty from me at least… he looks so gorgeous!!!!

  14. Brin says:

    He looks good…moody suits him.

  15. Adrien says:

    He looks like Ewan McGregor.

  16. Lizzie says:

I watched Filth this weekend and I was a complete wreck at the end. Full on sobbing. Which was weird for that film I know…but his performance kinda killed me. He should have won all the awards!

    • Sunny says:

I know. He is terrific in Filth. He is also AMAZING in the Disappearance of Elanor Rigby. That movie is a hard film to watch(well two hard films to watch). I love the Him version of the film and his performance is wonderful. I think he is better than Chastain in the movie. I hope he gets an award nomination.

If you live in a city where they show both versions and not the new combined one, see it.

    • Faith says:

I watched Filth last week the film was fantastic but he was just absolutely amazing.

  17. Lilacflowers says:

James McAvoy is a wonderful way to start a Monday morning.

  18. shannon says:

this movie looks so typical, but I love LOVE James McAvoy. He is my number one as well.

  19. mia girl says:

Yes, I agree Chastain was miscast.
    It should have been me.
In fact, I’m happy to offer my self up for any future role-playing with The Mac.

  20. MissM says:

Not a fan of this photoshoot but James is my fav. I don’t know why but I’m obsessed with the guy!

  21. kri says:

I like him…alot. I cannot stand Jessica Chastain.

  22. Hissyfit says:

I always have a soft spot for him since his Atonement and Wanted days.

  23. GeeMoney says:

He always looks like a little boy to me… but he’s looking very manly in these pictures. He looks good.

  24. OSTONE says:

    What a beautiful man.

  25. bettyrose says:

That first pic is like a young Ewan. Can Scotland please keep producing a steady stream of these boys? Thanks.

    • 'P'enny says:

LOL yep Scotland does produce some mighty actors, even half-Scottish ones😉 Ewan is my fave scot actor loved him since Scarlet & Black. Mcvoy loved him Shameless, but was gutted about his awful performance in Becoming jane. The rest of his films too dark for me. dougray Scott I love too & Robert Carlisle, & best of all Gerard butler(pants films though) and Douglas henshall yum❤️❤️❤️

  26. Leaflet says:

This man never ages. I think medicine should look towards “Mc” for the answer to the fountain of youth. Maybe the fountain of youth is somewhere in Narnia because Swinton hasn’t aged either. As for the “Mc” and his adventurous, zealous spirit, hiding in my bathroom with a BB gun, yes please. Can he be in my bathroom, sitting on my toilet, wearing that sweater above? And only that sweater above?

    * Closes eyes* Haaah
*Suddenly realizes that just the though of it makes me orgasm* Can we get Fassy over to my place as well?

  27. Malificent says:

“Questionable” is a kind word for that sweater. I’m not sure even the Mac’s hotness can rescue a sweater that an 8-year-old girl would be excited to wear on her first day of school….

  28. maudfricker says:

Yes James can hang out in my toilet anytime and if he brings Ben Cumberbatch and Fassy with him all the better 😉

  29. Sara says:

He just really does it for me. I really like him. Yum.

  30. pato says:

I feel like the coyote and the road runner. yum 🙂
