Miles Teller talks strip clubs, Viagra, Honey Buns & his ‘hammer-thumbs’ to Elle

I’m trying to branch out a little bit, even though I know many of you will just scream “WHO?” at me and quickly leave the post. Stick with it, because you might enjoy this person a little bit. This guy is named Miles Teller. He’s one of the young rising star-types and he’s been in a bunch of the films your teen or tween daughter has seen. He’s been in The Spectacular Now, Project X, Divergent and That Awkward Moment. He’s got several new projects coming out, like Whiplash (a Sundance favorite this year where he plays a jazz drummer) and Two Night Stand, a rom-com type. I was going to ignore him but we’ve been sent two magazine pieces about him in the past two days, and when I read the ELLE piece, I got a kick out of him. He’s really funny.

First, Miles was talking about one (or two) night stands with GQ (go here to see GQ’s package) and he gave some advice to the dudes who want no-commitment boning: “You should always try and be a gentleman—just be very delicate with your words. But also, if you don’t think you’re going to see them again, do not let them take a shirt and shorts. Because you will not get that s–t back.” Then there’s his ELLE piece (you can read the full thing here).

The best advice he’s ever received about women: “My dad always told me, “One in the hand is worth two in the bush.” That could be taken the wrong way… It doesn’t only apply to women. It means hold on to your life, because it’s not worth losing something that you have. When things go bad, you don’t run away.”

Bringing his girlfriend home to meet his family: “I brought her to meet my grandparents. My grandma tweets my girlfriend.”

Whether he’s ever taken Viagra (he’s only 27): “Uh, yeah. I’ve taken it before. You know, curiosity killed the cat. It’s a big-ass pill. My buddy in Vegas gave me one. He was like, ‘Bro, break it in half and take it two hours before you’re ready.’ When people are very specific on the instructions, that makes me kind of wary. But he was right.”

Whether Viagra makes sex better: “I don’t know. It’s just one of those things. If you get really hammered, it’ll still, you know, work.”

He goes to Vegas a lot & he doesn’t mind a strip club: “The few times me and my buddies went to the strip clubs, it’s because whatever happened at the night club wasn’t enough. There’s this one called Sapphire, which feels like WrestleMania. There’s sparkling lights, and they walk down two flights of stairs, and they’re like, “And stepping into the ring is Camaro!” I like Vegas. I like a good pool party. I’m from Florida. I love being out in the sun with my friends and drinking.

Whether he ever dated Shailene Woodley: “I’ve never dated Shailene. She would probably be repulsed by the thought. She saw me eat a Honey Bun two years ago.”

Vanities: “I used to be very vain about my thumbs. I have fat thumbs. If there’s a movie where you see me on the phone, it’s not my hands. [He confirms he has a hand-double.] Well, wait until you see this little hammer-thumb on a 40-foot screen with a chewed nail. You’re going to be like, ‘Oh, God.’

[From ELLE]

I mean… this is cute (to me). I like it when the younger celebrities are sort of different and neurotic and they aren’t so media-managed that they clam up and never tell their interesting stories. He’s a Hollywood actor in his 20s – of course he’s been to a Las Vegas strip club. Or course he took half a Viagra for fun, just to see what would happen. And this sh-t is just one of the best interview quotes EVER: “She would probably be repulsed by the thought. She saw me eat a Honey Bun two years ago.” I really like this kid.

Miles Teller is a total Bro. He even admits it. But he is so charming! And so freaking talented!
He is excellent in The Spectacular Now (just for get about that film with Zac Efron) and if you’ve not seen the trailer for Whiplash, I suggest you go now. Because it’s won a ton of awards and is gonna be his big breakout role. Guaranteed.

And he’s gonna be in the new Fantastic Four as Mr. Fantastic with Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B Jordan.

    • Sozual says:

A bro? He just seems cute and witty.

    • Sunny says:

He is a little bit of a bro. But he actually had a tremendous amount of depth. I heard an interview he did a few years ago about the horrific car accident he suffered and the scars it left on his face and neck, and the accidents impact on his view of the world.

He is also incredibly talented. and humble One of the best actors working under thirty right now. I am so excited he is breaking out. I think he will be a wildly successful actor but much more in the Dustin Hoffman mode than in the movie star way. He is really passionate about the craft and knowledgable. During Sundance last year, I saw a long interview with him where he talked about one of his earlier performances and how he managed to access the grief he needed to play the seen(by channeling the grief he felt over the death of the friend) and how he was conscious of not having his character’s grief overshadow the grief of his scene partner because his character was the one who had wronged the other actor.

If you aren’t familiar with his work, I suggest you watch Rabbit Hole, and the Spectacular Now.

I cannot wait to see him in Whiplash. The reviews were terrific. He actually plays the drums in real life(as well as 3 other instruments so he is quite musical) but he trained for months before the movie to improve his drumming.

      • Allie says:

        @Sunny Is that you, Miles?

      • Sunny says:

Hahahah. Nope, but just really loved him after Rabbit Hole and especially after watching the Spectacular now and I saw that interview. 🙂

      • Nina says:

Cute interview, especially the bit about shailene. I found him slightly too cocky in the spectacular now, but I guess that was the character too.

    • Fatty Cakes says:

Really embarrassed to admit I even saw this, but he won me over pretty quickly in the Footloose remake. Charming, funny, not too over-the-top. Also, I recently saw The Spectacular Now and he did a great job with that role. I especially loved the very natural flow of dialogue between him and Shailene. I kept wondering what was scripted and what, if anything, was improvised.

      • Sunny says:

I really like Shailene and Miles on- screen together. @FattyCakes watch Rabbit Hole. That was the first of his films I watched and he could hold the screen with Kidman and I was impressed after that.

  2. jinni says:

Yeah it would great if more actors were free and open in interviews, but than when they are, we (the public) get outraged at everything they say and can’t wait to take their comments out of context and drag them for it. How many times have people on this very site claimed that some actor or actress should just shut up or get media training because they don’t know how to conduct themselves in a interview simply because they didn’t like what the actor had to say? I’m not talking about when an actor says something truly offensive, but instead how even a simple, seemingly innocuous comment can lead to them being ripped to shreds by the people on the internet and media.

We can’t have it both ways.

    • Anname says:

They start out all interesting and with no filter, but it slowly changes as they get more famous and get more criticism.

  3. snusnu says:

He seems witty and funny (and slightly mischievous).I like him.He also kinda reminds me of John Cusack.

  4. Abbott says:

I always thought he and that Ansel Elgort kid were the same person.

  5. Sarah says:

I’ve loved this kid since Footloose, he was the only decent thing about that remake. He’s got hundreds of small scars on his face from when he went through a windscreen in a car accident, they just give his face more character!

  6. Maria says:

weird looking face. sorry but he sounds like a gigantic douchebag with a problem with respect to womem. also viagra does not work if you dont have erection problems. you should not take it if you are that young and dont have any medical conditions.
seriously, what kind of guy talks about being so wasted out in vegas he need viagra with 27 to get it up after going to a strip club…jeez.

i heard he will work with Emma Watson in a musical. that should be fun gossip, there will be stories marketing them as a couple.

    • Sozual says:

He didn’t say he was wasted and he had to use it. He said he tried it and didn’t know if made sex better necessarily. He added that you can stop and keep going if you drink too much. He added on information. He didn’t say he got drunk and used it.

  7. Tiffany27 says:

Ok, that Shailene joke cracked me up hahahaha.

    • lirko says:

Seriously! That was pretty awesome…still laughing

      • Serenity says:

Sorry but English is not my first language. Why is it so funny?

      • Dizzy says:

I do speak English an I don’t get it???? What’s a honey bun?

      • wiffie says:

@dizzy @Serenity a honey bun is one of those gooey prepackaged Danish/donuts you buy at 711 or a gas station. Shailene is super hippy dippy, organic, natural, out there sometimes, and would likely never come within five feet of one. (with anyone watching, at least)

      • Serenity says:

@wiffie Ahhh that makes sense LOL. Thanks! 😉

  8. Kristen says:

In still pictures he’s just meh, but every trailer I’ve ever seen him in inexplicably makes me want to bang him.

  9. Rach says:

So glad you wrote about him! He’s been a ‘thing’ for me for about a year now. So talented and easy in the eyes. Glad his career is really taking off.

  10. Kiddo says:

He resembles a chubby, younger Lisa Marie Presley in the second pic. He looks to be attempting to channel Sean Penn in the first. Meh on the interview; not offensive and not particularly charming, just kind of an average dude.

  11. Rach says:

Meg reminds me of a young Vince Vaughn!

  12. hutter says:

I know you didn’t ask, but: Honk!

  13. mom2two says:

He has douche face and I don’t find him attractive but he sounds like a nice guy. He’s going to be getting a ton of press for his Sundance fave Whiplash coming out soon. And he’s a local boy who still is a die hard Philadelphia Phillies fan (no matter how bad the team is), so I am rooting for him. Even though I think he’s miscast as Mr. Fantastic on the Fantastic Four…I think he would have made a better Thing, honestly.
You should check out his twitter feed. It’s charming and mostly silly, just the way a celeb twitter should be. He’s not too self promote-y yet.

  14. Fan says:

More miles teller!! He’s not very photogenic, always looks better in motion

Also the honey bun quote made me laugh, you know it’s totally true

  15. Adrien says:

I thought he’s the guy from Arctic Monkeys. He seemed nice. I’d rather be introduced to newbies like Miles than read another post about Leanne Rimes.

    • Vee says:

Agreed! Featuring new, talented, up and coming entertainers is a great idea.

Can we get a post about Sam Heughan, the Scottish Outlander hottie?!?

      • SpookySpooks says:

I hate Outlander the book with a passion, but I’ve watched the first episode and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Sadly, I don’t find Jamie hot at all, and I usually love ginger guys.

      • Argirl says:

        Yes, this! So much…

  16. Kali says:

He was one of the best things in “Divergent”. I really loved the book but you know that the movie isn’t working for you when you’re completely rooting for the @rsehole.

  17. shannon says:

Thank you Celebitchy for posting this! He was the PERFECT Sutter in my opinion. I love him.

  18. Lady L says:

Yay Miles! What a treat and a surprise to see him on here. I do think he is a very talented and charismatic actor. I agree with some earlier comments, he was fantastic in The Spectacular Now and Whiplash looks very promising. This guy is going places and doing it with humility and humor!

  19. Vee says:

This family loves Miles. My guys would love to hang with him, my daughter thinks he is a funny hottie. Our age range runs 15-50. So, yeah you Miles, looking forward to watching your career!

  20. Lucy says:

I love him!! Whether it’s drama, comedy, action, he nails all of them!!

  21. Josefa says:

He does sound a little bit fratty, but still nice and funny. He’s too average looking for me but eh, he’s alright.

He was great in The Spectacular Now. That was a surprisingly charming film. That’s the only movie I’ve seen of him, though.

  22. sesame says:

Miles Teller has this great “watchable” quality in movies… he has so much on-screen charisma, which I wasn’t really expecting. Watched a few interviews last year where he sounded a bit bro-ish, but it’s always exciting to check out actors and actresses “on the cusp”…

  23. manta says:

I only know him from Rabbit Hole with Nicole Kidman, which was is 1st movie if I’m not mistaken.
He was brilliant in it and his scenes with Kidman were heartbreaking.
I’m not surprised to read that his star is rising.

  24. Aura says:

Love Miles Teller! He is so gorgeous, and a really wonderful actor. Please watch The Spectacular Now. It’s, well, spectacular. (Sorry)

  25. Isa says:

I’ve only seen him in That Awkward Moment but he stole the show. There’s just something fun and silly about him. I really like him

  26. Marianne says:

He’s a really great actor! I can’t wait to see more of what he does. Looking forward to Whiplash a lot.

  27. Judy says:

He looks like a young Bobby Darin, and he’s musically talented too. Too bad they already made that biopic, he’d have been good.

  28. Judy says:

He looks like a young Bobby Darin, and he’s musically talented too. Too bad they already made that crappy biopic with Spacey, Teller would have been good.

  29. Judy says:

He looks like a young Bobby Darin, and he’s musically talented too. Too bad they already made that crappy biopic with Spacey, Teller would have been good. The honey bun quote is funny but I don’t know who wouldn’t be disgusted by someone eating honey buns. They are just packaged chemicals. They don’t even taste good.

  30. Tania says:

I’m not feeling it. But maybe I’ll see him in something and change my mind
