I am so mad. I thought we were going to get Downton on Sept. 21, but that’s just for England. We have to wait until January again. Curses!
it’s so hard to stay unspoiled
even if i dont look for information, sometimes entertainment headlines give it away
i wish the british still owned me so i could get their shows without delay
+1
Cry me a river, in Britain we have EVERYTHING spoiled 😉 GOT – fuggedaboutit. Good Wife shock death? Yeah that was wrecked months ahead of time for me. There has been virtually no spoilertastic show that I watch that has not been foretold, and I try my best to avoid them. So sorry if you find out Carson stole the silver to feed his secret love child a bit early (I jest – or do I? mwahaha) 😉
Yes and orgasmiYes. I love the fancy Downton Abbey…that and OITNB. Both are chick dramas with an educated spice of history and cultural anthropology. I will squirm until January!! (foreplay!)
Does anyone know why there’s such a delay for the UK shows? I can see a week or two, but more than that is just odd.
In the specific case of “Downton,” it has to do with their deal with PBS and the “Masterpiece Theatre” schedule.
I’m from the US and watch it on the iTV player as it airs.
You watch it in the US at the same time it airs in the UK ? What is iTV player? Do tell.
@Lisa- from a quick search it appears to be a UK channel where they play popular shows. You can watch it live streaming as it airs, and they also offer an archive of other shows.

Thanks, I’ll check it out.
Is it a slow news day? I was expecing more!!!
Oh well… I’m excited for DA can’t wait to see what happens next.
Labour day! At least here in Canada and the USA
That Rufus Wainwright post is disturbing. I don’t understand how he did not realize how disturbing his thoughts were before he said them out loud. Even if he was being cheeky, that’s not something to joke about. Gross.
I don’t realize how he could have said that either. And he thought he was being amusing? I guess self editing is a talent not everyone is born with.
I literally felt like throwing up after reading that. Stuff like that shouldn’t even cross your mind, let alone say it out loud in a public interview.
Downton Yayyyyyyy!!!!!
Riff Raff’s Own Mom probably dont care about Riff Raff and crops him out of all new and old family Pics
Deadmau5’s car is as fugly as sin, but does Ferrari actually have the right to tell him to take off the decals? I mean he paid for it, it’s his right?
May I add The One to all those Virgos? It’s Keanu’s 50ᵗʰ tomorrow! 😉
Happy Labor Day to those who have the day off!
Love that Anna Chancellor is a part of the cast now!
Let’s see: Downton Abbey, Mr. Selfridge, The Paradise, Breathless, Doc Martin, Call the Midwives, Last Tango in Halifax and so many others. The Brits are beating the Americans in quality television and have been doing so for many years. Have not watched an American program regularly since Sienfeld.
Not so. Breaking Bad. Mad Men. Orange is the New Black. True Detective. The Wire. Sopranos. Game of Thrones. Outlander. Boardwalk Empire. Veep. House of Cards. Parade’s End. The Normal Heart. Cosmos. and so many others. Brit and US series are both good, but I would say the Americans have the slight edge right now.
House of Cards was a British TV series in 1990, adapted from a book by a British writer. Ian Richardson played Francis. The version to which you refer was readapted to shift the political scene to DC instead of British Parliament.
Parade’s End is a BBC series.
@taxi, the original “House of Cards” is the only one that exists to me. They needed a total of twelve hours to complete the trilogy; the U.S. version will run three times that. Ridiculous! The American adaptation is a bloated bore.
@TheCountess, Richardson’s Urquhart personified evil in that one! He could arch a brow or curl a lip better than anyone!
While I love Downton, I don’t watch it for “quality” writing. It’s more like a cheesy soap opera with the dreamiest sets and costumes imaginable. I think the US and the UK both have been producing some quality TV, but I don’t think DA ranks up at the top. Having it in the Emmy category with the likes of Breaking Bad felt like kind of a joke to me.
@Esmom- ITA. The beautiful clothes and the salacious stories of the women who wear them is what draws in Downton. I will definitely be looking into more British television @BeckyR suggested. Haven’t heard of half of them.
Other UK shows to watch:
Utopia,
Happy Valley
Black Mirror,
The Fall,
Misfits,
Luther,
In the flesh,
the fades,
Ripper Street,
Peaky Blinders,
Last Tango in Halifax,
I agree with you. Mr. M says I’ll watch anything where the people have a British accent. He used to always ask if I was watching “Midwife Downton” .
Ariana Grande = Auto Tune
And I want snuggle Benny to death. Love bulldog puppies.
Wait, why poor Edith? Did I miss something in the trailer?
poor edith? looks to me like it’s Mary in trouble or is that “poor edith” just preemptive, lol?
What’s the big deal about the Ferrari? It’s his, and I don’t see what the big deal is about the Nyan cat wrap. It’s his car. I roll my eyes at the stupid stick figure families on the back of every minivan, but that’s their right.
