Tabloids run Rihanna pregnancy rumors to move copies

nationalenquirercover
The National Enquirer is reporting that Rihanna thinks she could be pregnant and that this understandably made her fear for the maybe-baby when she was being attacked by Chris Brown. Is this a real case of a pregnancy scare or are the tabloids running this sensational tale to keep up the interest in this shocking domestic abuse incident and sell copies? Both the National Enquirer and Star are running this on the cover in some capacity this week.

“Oh my God, I could lose the baby!”

Rihanna has told pals that horrifying thought raced through her mind as her boyfriend Chris Brown brutally beat her – because she thinks she is pregnant, The ENQUIRER has learned.

The talented pop beauty had already told Brown that she might be expecting his baby, and friends fear that may be what triggered his violent rage.

Brown, 19, now faces assault charges for the Feb. 8 attack, but prosecutors are considering adding felony domestic abuse counts and even an attempted murder charge, which could put the R&B singer behind bars for years.

“If Rihanna is pregnant, Chris could have killed the baby,” claimed a distressed insider.

Recalling her terror when Brown started pummeling her, Rihanna told friends: “All I could think was, ‘Oh, my God, I could lose the baby!'”

[From The National Enquirer]

This really bothers me on several levels. It’s “if Rihanna is pregnant” and “Rihanna thinks she’s pregnant.” This level of speculation is even beneath the standard crap the tabloids make up about “insiders claiming” that someone is pregnant or even had a positive home test or whatever. If it’s just weak drivel made up by the rags, it’s really obnoxious to run this right after the incident, especially after we saw how serious Rihanna’s injuries were. Even if there’s some level of truth to this, and it’s doubtful, this is disrespectful to the victim to run this. It’s like bottom of the barrel crap. I guess we can’t expect much more from the tabloids, especially in these hard times. Why can’t death, serious injury, and serious illness be off limits? We’re not immune to running these type of stories either but celebrities are human and it just seems wrong to sensationalize it when they’re going through such tough times.

The latest news in the Rihanna Chris Brown story is that the D.A. is still waiting for evidence from the police to move forward with the case, according to a spokesperson quoted by E! News. The incident is still under LAPD investigation at this time.

i am ashamed of myself for reading this post. it is irresponsible and cruel. there is gossip and there is unscrupulous noise
Star should be boycotted, the way they have reported lately and the national, well are never to be believed, but have stooped unbelievably low.
To imagine any woman writer, editor or publisher signing off on such a thing *shudder*

I’m a bit confused as to why it is taking so long for charges to be pressed in this case. It seems pretty cut and dried to me. Do you tink it is because the high profile of this case makes it more complicated? I can’t help but to believe that if this were a case of “joe Shmoe” beating his girl friend unconcious he would be in jail already awaiting his court date.

  3. Lem says:

Mi, actually if it were joe schmo and the chick left the country and the dude left the state that’d be that. end of discussion.
The only reason it will go forward it because it’s so high profile

A radio station I listen to today stated that the DA doesnt have enough evidence to prosecute Chris Brown at this time and Rihanna is not going to cooperate with them. Ok I’m done, let it be and leave it alone!

Maybe she’s not pressing charges for her career’s sake. Given the generally ambivalent stances in the music community she might figure it isn’t worth a backlash from people she might want to work with in the future.

I wondered if there would be some kind of splitting of the ranks if sides had to be chosen – seems a lot of artists out there have either been hitters or on the receiving end – or both.

This is no justification but I’m starting to wonder if it’s just as messed up as all the debates on the subject made it seem. If so, she’s probably trying to come up with a way not to alienate people in the business. Or something.

Who knows? I feel that we’re never going to know with this story. I guess we don’t have to, though I do wonder sometimes what it says about everyone involved.

I think the story by National Enquirer is absolute nonsense.

They are just adding more fuel to the fire here instead of just leaving it alone.
