Miley Cyrus has a Mexican warrant after her tush desecrated the flag

Miley Cyrus

I never talked about Miley’s weird NYFW debut for her clothing line with Jeremy Scott. It wasn’t worth discussing. This is Miley’s pot-infused, faux-psychedelic idea of “fashion.” What’s sad is that someone will buy this clothing.

Miley’s in trouble off the runway. She’s a source of annoyance for her stunt-queen antics, but she’s kept herself on the right side of the law. Until now. Miley performed earlier this week in Monterey, Neuvo Leon. She did her usual twerkadelic routine with her tush hanging out everywhere. Then she strapped on a Nicki Minaj-esque booty, and her backup dancers spanked her with a Mexican flag. There’s a NSFW video (the smacking happens at 2:20ish) of this weirdness.

In another country, people may have rolled their eyes and written this stunt off as Miley begging for attention. Mexico doesn’t mess around with flag desecration. HuffPo reports that Nuevo Leon has issued a warrant on Miley. She could potentially go to jail for 36 hours. You know that won’t happen. She’ll probably have to pay a $1,200 desecration fine. TMZ points out that Paulina Rubio paid a $4,000 fine after wearing (only) the flag for a photo shoot.

Miley’s latest antics were in poor taste, of course. The show happened on Mexican Independence Day! If she knew about the holiday, she didn’t care. Miley only wanted to “shock” everyone with her rebellion. This routine is growing old.

Where’s the clown car for that line?

As to the flag, in this country and others, people are more tied up in knots over symbols than they are about people. Was it dumb and disrespectful? Probably. Should it be a crime? I’ll ask this: Does Mexico have more important crimes to focus on with its police force?

    • Mariana says:

Of course there are much more important crimes in México as in everywhere in the world, but this logic makes no sense. Would be like not paying a parking meter and asking the police to take care of murder cases of instead of his minor thing. Desecrating patriotic symbols is a heavy issue in Mexico, and even when one may consider an antique nationalistic nonsense (I kind of do) is the law, for mexicans and foreigners in México, famous or not, no exceptions. As a Mexican I don’t feel ofended, but I would be if in this case (or any other ) someone skips the law because they’re famous.

I was stopped by the Mexican police on a country road, and I have never been so scared in my life. They accused me of having drugs and guns, screamed at me until I was crying and shaking, and it turned out all they wanted was money. I was too scared to give them any, because they were so crazy I thought they would arrest me for bribing them and I would spend the rest of my life in prison. Plus I didn’t have much with me. So I told them I didn’t have any, and they screamed at me more, calling me rich American and touching my hair, going through my purse. I thought they were going to rape me. They finally let me go, very suddenly. So, yeah, I think they have more important things to focus on, such as the total corruption that IS their police force.

Yikes GoodNames. Where in Mexico were you? I drove around Baja by myself for 3 months and generally had positive interactions with the policia, it was the federal that scared me. But that’s probably because I did have drugs on me. Although I got the drugs from the policia, so there ya go.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I was also driving down Baja P. To be honest, I wouldn’t have known what branch of the police force they were. It was many years ago. I would have thought it was an isolated incident, but I also had another bad experience at a Mexican airport, where I was sitting on a concrete wall and a policeman slammed his what looked like a cross between a riding crop and a billy club down as hard as he could about an inch from my hand and put his face right in mine and shouted NO! NO! I finally figured out he didn’t want me to sit on the wall. So I just don’t go to Mexico anymore. Too afraid of the people who are supposed to protect you. Maybe something about me just sets them off. Lol

Well we shall just have to enjoy our margaritas and cat nap at your weekend home then. 🙂

      Well said Mariana.

No, I think the law is silly for everyone, famous or not. I say this as an American who is tired of the surface patriotism. Some are more concerned about the country’s flags and symbols than the people who inhabit the actual country or the actions of the government behind the symbols.

      • mimif says:

        Word.

Kiddo, check out ProtonMail. That is all.

      • Kiddo says:

Never heard of it. Will do. Thanks.

      • Chem says:

I guess only a Mexican will understand this. In the USA you can wear and do whatever you want with the flag but not in Mexico. We love the flag but we don’t adore it or something, we respect it.
Also being spanked with the flag is stupid and disrespectful especially if a foreigner does it, in fact a native will never do that.

      • drea says:

I’m not a very sentimental person and I’m always the first to be critical of too much “governing,” but if a foreign national mucks around with my flag, I take some offense.

If that person wants to treat their own flag like a rag or towel you slap someone’s ass with, that’s their call. But to do that to something that is the official symbol of someone else’s country shows a great lack of respect from a visitor. Is it really too much these days to expect guests to be polite?

      • Kiddo says:

@drea, fair enough. Still silly to make an international scene about it and give it further attention.

    • Anony says:

The drug cartels are too rich for Mexico to fight on their own. They own submarines! SUBMARINES!!! They can buy off politicians and police officers in a heart beat.

I think they should go after Miley for some fine-money as they can put that money towards solving the crime problems.

  2. Abbott says:

10 minutes in a Mexican prison might straighten her out.

  3. Belle Epoch says:

I don’t understand who is going to her concerts. Stoned teenage boys? Who enjoys this sh*t?

    • TheOneandOnlyOnly says:

Remember when great bands like queen and zeppelin played 3 hour plus concerts no stunts just great live music Pearl Jam still does today. Does her “concert” even last 90 minutes?
Paul McCartney recently played in my locale (my son and friends went); Sir Paul played 3 plus hours and 41 songs, and all live. That’s a concert.

      • Lauraq says:

I saw Bon Jovi last year and they played for forever. Like really, The audience got tired before the band did.
I saw Ozzy a few years ago and he played for 2.5 hours. Not bad for as old as he is!

    • Mina says:

Actually, nobody went to the concert. Many of the tickets were given away. I heard of one girl who won 2 on a radio show, but was given 8.

It was rumoured that the whole desecration of the flag thing was because her show didn’t sell.

  4. katP says:

is this even surprising to anyone anymore?? Miley’s just being the same ol’ Miley *rolls eyes*

  5. Size Does Matter says:

We could rename that law the Miley tax in her honor. I wonder how often people are prosecuted for this?

  6. Lisa says:

Is she still here? I thought that Ariana girl who looks like every pedophile dream replaced her or something.

  7. Marigold says:

If she ever has the benefit of self reflection, I’d like to be there when she reflects on this fashion line. But I ain’t holdin’ my breath.

  8. Dominque says:

It’s not her clothing line with him. She just walked at the end of his NYFW show.

  9. OhDear says:

“Then she strapped on a Nicki Minaj-esque booty…”

    What?!?!?!?! How is that… I can’t even.

  10. whatsmyname? says:

Ugh she is gross and not even mildly amusing.

  11. Carrie says:

Forget Miley for a second, Jeremy Scott is such a creep.

  12. Kaylee says:

Jeremy Scott used some of her “Dirty Hippy” jewelry and hairpieces during the show. Also she had some of her “””art””” on display too.

  13. George says:

Her blind fans may think her butt movements are sacred…… being spanked with a national symbol is just as offensive as her shows are to musical talent.

  14. Dommy Dearest says:

Lock her up and fine her. Please.

  15. Cinderella says:

She really has no idea what she’s messing with.
