As I discussed a few days ago, Amanda Bynes gave an exclusive interview to In Touch Weekly. In Touch has released the interview in sections, because… well, Amanda was and is a profoundly unwell young woman and I guess we need to be reminded of her sad cry for help. In the earlier part of the interview, Amanda claimed that she was engaged to a 19-year-old and they’re going to have babies. In this new excerpt, Amanda says someone implanted a microchip in her head. Sigh…
The new issue of In Touch Weekly gives a glimpse inside the troubled life of Amanda Bynes following her latest DUI arrest, with details of the concerning behavior Amanda displayed on Oct. 5 in NYC — her day spent with an In Touch reporter. The most disconcerting of her erratic behavior was when Amanda told In Touch’s reporter she believes she has a microchip in her head. “I want a dollar a day from every person who [is] reading my mind,” she told the reporter.
Amanda also insisted to In Touch that she needs a nose job after recently getting cysts removed from her face. “I look so hideous,” the beautiful star lamented to the reporter. “Everyone can use a little plastic surgery.”
While many of her ramblings throughout the day made little sense, Amanda made one thing perfectly clear: She wants nothing to do with her parents, Rick and Lynn. “I was miserable living with them,” she says. “I would have rather been in jail.”
Yeah…it’s sad.
As for how she’s behaving out there in the world, well… she’s still a danger to herself and others. On Monday night, she was at the Gilded Lily nightclub, “dancing alone, wearing sunglasses and keeping to herself … until random people started taking photos.” Amanda started yelling at people and then she violently attacked one woman. Amanda allegedly scratched the woman’s neck and arms. TMZ says the woman isn’t going to press charges. Why not? Getting the police involved might be just what this situation needs.
And then yesterday, Wednesday, Amanda shoplifted a hat at Barneys on Madison Ave. Barneys security says she put the hat on and walked out of the store. The hat had a security device and the guards grabbed her as soon as she left the store. The guards told TMZ that Amanda was acting “crazy” but they let her go before the NYPD got there. After that, “sources familiar with the situation” told TMZ that she didn’t mean to steal the hat, she had just left her purse in the car and she was going out of Barneys to retrieve it.

So, so sad. This has been going on for far too long. Why is nobody helping this young woman?
+1. Why hasn’t she had a mental evaluation? Something is so obviously wrong.
She was evaluated. And diagnosed. And placed under a psych hold. And then under a conservatorship. Until she injures herself or someone else, there is not much that can be done for her unless she wants it.
It is heartbreaking, and I wonder the same thing. Is she over 21, or over the age where her parents can interfere? I think it’s hard to force someone into treatment if they don’t want to go. But she desperately needs help.
She’s 28. Her parents had the conservatorship and gave it up. She needs help, but sadly probably isn’t going to get any, not soon.
cr, did her parents really “give up” the conservatorship, or was it a legal decision made by a judge?
I think it just ended. I find this entire situation so sad. What most people don’t realize is that it’s very difficult to force an adult with mental illness to accept treatment unless they are in fact a danger to themselves or others. Which is a very high hurdle indeed. We can all look at her and listen to her delusions and know she needs help. But unfortunately, it will probably take her irreparably harming someone before she gets that help.
+1 my aunt was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 21 and although there are better drugs today some forty years later, it will always remain for me as one of the saddest and most mentally debilitating illness I have ever experienced firsthand. may she seek out or be given the help, support, education and awareness she so desperately needs before it costs her her own life, or worse someone else’s.
Amanda is an adult and has the right to determine her own treatment or lack of treatment. She can be involuntarily committed if she is a danger to herself or others, but that is a high standard to meet. And the cycle of deterioration, treatment, feeling better so stopping treatment, deterioration is likely to continue for the rest of her life.
We have been through this with my sister for close to 20 years. She has bipolar disorder with psychosis and has been involuntarily committed at least three times and voluntarily committed another six or eight times. At some point, the medication became less effective, and the more she self medicates with drugs and alcohol, the worse things get.
Amanda’s parents appear to be on the codependent’s drug – denial. They never should have dropped the conservatorship. There’s just not much they can do if she doesn’t consent to treatment.
Glad you wrote this as concisely and clearly as you did. The status of gravely disabled or danger to self or others is not poured in cement and is difficult to obtain. It is clear to me that Amanda has some form of thought disorder and would do well in treatment. Autonomy rules at all times, and until she becomes a major concern, rather than talking about her psychotic thoughts, there is not much that can be done.
+1. It is incredibly difficult to 51-50 someone. My sister in law is bipolar and we go through this every few years too.
my mother has similar delusions. i would love to have her hospitalized and treated but i have no legal recourse. every day is so stressful. her parents get a lot of criticism but i havent been able to do any better and i really am trying every day. im sure they try too. even if people like me and the bynes didnt care, you would make the effort just to get a little peace in your life. it’s so exhausting and every phone call brings drama.
The issue of involuntary psychiatric holds seems to be such a double edged sword. On the one hand it is obviously a good thing that people cannot be taken on a whim like the bad old days when women could be locked up for “hysteria”. At the same time though, it is frustrating to see and hear of so many situations in which a person really needs an intervention to get treatment, and yet there is nothing their loved ones can do to ensure that outcome. My heart goes out to anyone in this situation. And it is disgusting the way the media is making a Victorian style freakshow of Bynes’s case..
Amanda’s case is sad, but all of these cases are sad. Maybe, if nothing else, her celebrity and very public issues can help bring about some reforms. Yes, the old system of “warehousing” the mentally ill (and healthy but unwanted spouses or children) in state-run institutions was bad, but the current system is broken as well. There are not enough state medical facilities to handle these cases and not nearly enough of the type of residential facilities seriously mentally ill people need. And the bar for involuntary treatment should not be so high (danger to self or others, observed by the authorities – not just reported by a third party) after an initial involuntary hold and diagnosis.
What really gets me about this is that most people don’t have Amanda’s resources. The onset of these diseases is late teens, early twenties. If parents don’t jump on board when children are still on their health insurance, or don’t have the money for private pay facilities, or symptoms don’t start until after the child is off the parent’s insurance, because most of these individuals can’t hold down a job and provide their own insurance, then many mentally ill wind up on the street or in jail.
Amanda’s parents never should have given up that conservatorship.
I agree with what you wrote, Size Does Matter, but I worry about the assumption that her parents just dropped the conservatorship. I know that is what TMZ has been saying, but I know that they occasionally lie and misrepresented these kinds of things.
It is possible that they wanted the conservatorship to continue, but sometimes the law doesn’t allow that to happen.
In a recent photo, both parents looked very frail and elderly. She’s probably shaved 10 years off their lives. I can’t imagine the constant struggle they no doubt had to deal with when she was living there.
I don’t know if there’s anything that can get Amanda back on track. If you refuse to take your meds daily, there’s not much that can be done.
She was getting help and then her parents decided that she didn’t have a mental illness and took her off the medication. She is apparently suffering from bi-polar and schizophrenia and her past behaviour, imo, is proof that she is suffering from a severe mental illness that needs to be handled so she can live a normal life. It makes me so angry when family members choose to ignore mental illness and blame it all on bad behaviour due to her smoking pot or just being a bad person or whatever. I mean, compare Amanda’s parents to how Britney Spears father stepped up and has worked to get her back on track (not that I agree with everything he’s done but at least he’s not in denial about her mental illness). Amanda’s parents refused to extend the conservatorship and say she’s just spoiled and a stoner who disregards their rules. So they have washed their hands of her basically and she’s spiraling down into dangerous places. I am really scared that something serious will happen and this will end in tragedy. I hope not because she really needs help and her parents need to step up and listen to the experts and do what their daughter needs before it’s too late instead of treating her like a rebellious teenager.
Susy, I have wondered if her parents don’t want to acknowledge that they have a “defective” child, so they’re just purposely distancing themselves from their daughter and her situation.
That’s not true according to what I’ve read-she was refusing treatment, and the Conservatorship expired. They could have fought to have it extended, but it’s a very high bar to meet & it’s unlikely a judge would have agreed (they were able to get it in the first place because she was suicidal and they Baker Acted her). I think she’d have to try to commit suicide again or prove she’s an extreme danger to herself and/or others for a court to step in. I agree she’s very mentally ill, but we don’t know what her parents have and haven’t done to help her and I don’t think it fair to disparage them without knowing the full story.
You can’t pin this on her parents, the law determined the length of their control over her. Once she escaped them she immediately reverted to the behavior that led to the conservatorship in the first place. This is the cycle of mental illness in our society, privileged or not, you cannot force people to accept treatment and take medications against their will.
at this point it’s not even remotely funny. This girl is seriously ill and needs all the help she can get.
I totally agree with you. They wouldn’t be laughing if she had cancer. There is nothing funny about mental illness. So very sad
Agreed. This is serious exploitation by InTouch.
This is Brit Brit 2.0. I loved her on Big Fat Liar and even Hairspray. But she showed great talent on The Amanda Bynes Show and All That. Damn Nickelodeon.
Nickelodeon cannot cause this kind of mental illness.
Many people who develop mental illness are highly intelligent, creative and talented. Nothing she did caused the illness, it’s just happening to her.
i feel nothing but sadness when a story comes up about her. She is in a downward spiral and i hope someone helps her…soon
This whole situation with Amanda breaks my heart. I feel strongly that she has schizophrenia. My cousin had it and the hallucinations and conversations with inanimate objects are things he experienced. She needs serious help to manage it because without it, she could seriously endanger herself.
And others. Attacking random people in nightclubs is scary behaviour.
Yeah but that was provoked
Agree with u – my uncle has it and the symptoms are familiar to me as well. Im sure whatever drugs she’s on is making it worse.
I totally agree with you because I am schizophrenic. I know how terrifying and consuming this is, and I feel for her. I pray someone steps in and does something before it’s too late. When lines blur, and she totally loses touch with reality, it may be too late. God help her!
@Debbie, you’re right, there comes a point when it’s too late. My cousin did well while he was on his meds but never stayed on. He ended up homeless, raped and assaulted and eventually died last year at the age of 31. He went to his parents house and was very ill. They took him to the hospital and he remained in ICU. At the end of his life, he has so many untreated infections and left him unable to move and speak. It’s a horrible and heartbreaking death to watch. He was once a lively, funny, sweet and sensitive soul. Plus, he was an amazing artist.
Agree. I work in a psychiatric facility, and this sounds like classic symptoms. So sad.
@launicaangelina
She’s high all the time. It’s hard to say what’s caused by her (potential) illness and what’s the effect of drugs she’s taking. Also, she’s obsessed with being skinny and has an ED so she’s probably taking lots of Adderall (she was prescribed it for ADHD, like they all are…). Adderall in high doses causes psychosis.
@Qwerty, I agree, it is hard to say. All we can do is speculate but for some of us, this hits close to home and it’s natural for us to use personal experience to try and figure out what’s going on, because we know the pain.
Drug abuse is usually not the cause of serious mental illness, it can be a trigger but the underlying problem is probably there no matter what illegal or legal drugs she is taking. Even if she is “high all the time”, does that mean she no longer deserves compassion or care? The girl is floundering and needs help.
@Bob
“Even if she is “high all the time”, does that mean she no longer deserves compassion or care?”
I feel really sorry for the girl. Where did you get that from?
Poor thing. I really wish somebody would step in and help that girl out. Ideally, it should have been her parents back when they had more influence and ability to do so, but she’s really going downhill fast.
She is back on a Twitter. Just glance of her twitter feed. She is not well by any means. Sad.
This breaks my heart. She and I are the same age and I feel like we grew up together. She is such a talented comedienne. I really hope she gets well.
Really sad.
In touch released the interview in two parts because.. There is a lot of profit to be made from mentally unstable young stars. The relationship before their downfall, need for attention and money to be made is usually a pretty dangerous combination, right?
Such a shame.
Seeing it from that angle makes me not ever buy one of these magazines again – you are dead on about profit being made from this – it is chilling reality and the media in which young people like this are given a platform to react – and to have their reactions played out – which is what vampires feed off of – reactions. Drama makes money. The new ‘reality’. Looking back on Britney it is no wonder her eyes are so haunted.
Mental illness is taboo now and always will be. The woman is ill and in all likelihood thinks she’s fine. She shouldn’t be fair game to attack simply because she is or was famous. Leave her alone, especially you TMZ, and let her get help.
On that note, can somebody clarify why TMZ is so popular? I had a look at their site the other day, and it made me want to pour acid on my face…. not literally, though.
At least TMZ always posts the latest stories. There is another story about Amanda trying to shoplift at a different store before the Barney’s episode.
Teehee, no acid please! It’s all that idiot boy Harvey Levin. He has his favorite targets and one of them is Amanda. To go after the mentally ill and children is the devil’s work. Being a sixty something year old gay male couldn’t have always been easy for Harvey, but that doesn’t give him the right to expose people’s private pain. The Thirty Mile Zone manages to get the scoop on everything….they must give big payouts. I’m sure Pimp Mama Kris has a special TMZ bank account for all the stories she gives them. Screw them all, they’re evil. PS…I’m so sure he suffers from the Napoleon Syndrome….little dude trying to show how powerful he is.
Thank you for the replies! I was honestly wondering how that site became so popular, because the site layout and the content make me stabby.
There is a reason I much prefer reading this site. At least articles are written in a responsible, educated way.
And no, no acid shall be involved, that was my drama queen moment of the day. 🙂
They do get the stories, that’s a fact. But to expose someone who is in the state Amanda is, is playing with fire. If she should harm herself from the day-to-day expose’ on her life by TMZ, I would put a whole lot of blame right on their back. They can chase Alex Baldwin down the streets and cause him to drop off of twitter and move to another state, but she seems pretty much defenseless. I’m redundant, but I find Levin to be a monster without a conscience……sociopath??
They get the stories because they break the law and violate people’s rights to medical and legal privacy.
They have been found planting microphones in the LA county courthouse and are rumored to pay people off at the coroner’s office, hospitals, police, etc.
This situation is really horrible and unless she gets the proper help, is going to end really badly. Where are her parents? She was under their care during the conservatorship. She’s obviously extremely mentally ill. The people at the nightclub and the stores that she’s trying to shoplift from, aren’t doing her any favours letting her get away with the behaviour. If she’s physically attacking people, she’s a danger to others as well as herself and she’s obviously suffering from paranoid delusions if she thinks their is a chip in her head. Her friends and family are really dropping the ball here.
Sounds like she’s schizophrenic.
This poor girl, what are her parents doing?? She’s in such a bad place and the impression I’m getting is that she’s totally alone and without an actual support system.
Weren’t her parents in denial that she has a mental illness? They thought it was just the pot.
It’s mental health week here in Australia. My sister has schizopeher & my family and I have had to educate our selves on this illness. When she had her first real episode (?) we had to drive to Melbourne where the police had found her rolling around naked in leaves and mud. She left hospital and came back to live with us, closer to all of us. She was medicated and seemed to be doing ok & we all just kind of let it go and moved on. Fast forward and she had another episode ( stop taking meds mths ago) I think at the time we thought it was like depression, that once u start feeling ok, than you could stop with the meditcation. It’s something she will have for life and meds will be part of it. She will most likely have another episode, part of the illness is believing you don’t need to be on meds and even in her meds there is no guarantee. There is such a stigma atattched to schizopeher, that she is dangerous and that she may attack you with a knife, etc. this is not the case with her and a lot of people. She hears things and thinks people are under her bed, etc. she would never hurt us but is a danger to her self. She her like this, she is like a lost little girl. In Australia 1 in 4 people will suffer a mental illness. It’s something that people hide or are ashamed of. Education in society is a massive thing I’m passionate on and why I changed my career path.
Well said Aussie Girl.
I truly feel for your sister.
I’m a Sydney girl now living in London but I made sure to tuned into Q&A this week for their segment on mental health in regional Australia as well as podcasting Hack on JJJ. Mental health is an important issue and it NEEDS to be talked about
Thanks 😊. There has been some great stuff on the ABC this week.
Thanks for sharing your story, mental illness is something people are ashamed of here in the USA and most people don’t like to talk about it. I had a friend and co-worker who had a similar “episode” like your sister. He ended up at his boss’s house at 4 am, naked and covered in mud and telling everyone that God was speaking to him. He is such a nice, good person. Very intelligent and charismatic. It was incredibly bewildering as it was happening, none of us quite knew what was going on as he began unraveling. He was very lucky, like your sister, his family came through and got him the help he needed. Last I heard from him he was doing very well, on his meds and working at a community center, living near his family. It’s so hard to know what to do to help someone when they start having problems.
She’s like the poster child for a BIG problem in this country. There are people in this kind of shape living on (or below) the streets. Some have apartments full of guns (as we have seen repeatedly). There was an interesting article in WaPo about a mentally ill man living alone. His family was concerned but could do nothing. His parents give him money. Many of the comments were from people who were vehemently in favor of leaving him alone because of his right to be, well, crazy:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/behind-the-yellow-door-a-mans-mental-illness-worsens/2014/06/28/28bdfa9c-fbb5-11e3-b1f4-8e77c632c07b_story.html
We do have some very serious problems with the way we address mental illness in our country. I wish I knew what the answer was.
She’s going to harm herself or someone else seriously if someone doesn’t stop her now. 1/3 months or rehab doesn’t help.. she needs years to get better!
Also, why is she so obsessed with her nose? Not that I expect some logic explanation..
She probably has body dysmorphic disorder that’s why she’s obsessed with her nose and maybe why she calls everyone ugly.
Instead of Intagram or TMZ the people in these incidents need to call the police! Press charges! Maybe, just maybe she will say or do something in the presence of authorities to get her committed. It might save her life. Otherwise? It won’t be until she hurts someone. Then she will lose her freedom and most of her money to a civil suit. The clock is ticking.
The bandages are probably from her picking. If she thinks things are implanted in her head… she’s digging, which is just cringey.
Meth is a helluva drug.
She isn’t a meth head, she’s mentally ill.
This is all so very sad. She is spiraling out of control with a quickness if she was suffering with Cancer or a physical illness everyone would be writing beautiful and inspirational pieces on her. Instead, they’re capitalizing off her mental illness. This is not funny by an means. This poor girl is suffering badly and needs help fast. If someone doesn’t step in and help her, this will end badly for herself and maybe others. People suffering with mental illnesses are significant and worthy of help.
this
Just when it seemed liked her illness was finally being managed…This is so incredibly sad. Every time I see one of these stories it just breaks my heart. And I agree that there not being any consequences for her recent behavior (the club fight and shop lifting) is not doing her any favors. There should have been some sort of evaluation after the DUI arrest, given her history. This poor woman is slipping the cracks more & more, and it’s only a matter of time before something truly tragic happens. I really hope it doesn’t come to that, but it’s not looking good.
I hate seeing stories and pictures about her when she is obviously impaired. The whole thing is very unfortunate.
LOL omg!!
This is just so sad. She’s tweeting about the same sorts of things she did back in 2013, tabloids lying about her and how she’s planning to sue. I hope her parents can step in but it literally took her starting a fire in a driveway last time before they were able to take control of her life.
Unfortunately unless Amanda does something like setting a fire in a random driveway again she more than likely will not be committed. And no one can force her to take prescription medication or adhere to a treatment plan unless she is under a conservatorship or in a hospital. This is so very sad but a common issue with many people. Amanda just happens to be famous. I worked at a couple of different hospitals early in my career and there were a few people that came into the E.R. semi regularly that had stopped taking meds for either bipolar or schizophrenia. It’s when they become a danger to themselves or others that they are finally brought in usually by the police or a family member. The fact that Amanda attacked a woman at a nightclub leads me to believe that she should have been brought in then. In some states a battery can be prosecuted even if the victim does not want to press charges. I’m guessing that’s not the case in New York? That’s too bad because she is in obvious need of intervention.
Oh I know you are not being rude ….you just have a different opinion then I do…We are not lemans and don’t have to agree or like what ever others say…..I didn’t say weed alone was the trigger for her mental problems I said it was one of the triggers along with drugs and alcohol which ‘triggers ” her actions…. When she is clean she is relatively sane and normal but as soon as she get back onto her triggers she has problems….I believe that is what her father says comes from….mental illness is caused by many things and drugs and alcohol are one of them…I have seen people who are the nicest , sweetest, persons in the world when sober but let them get drunk and they turn into completely different people who think nothing of stealing someones wallet or knocking you over the head….alcohol and drugs …”alter a persons mind..” which is another description of mental illness a person with a altered state of mind….she choses to stay in that altered state of mind….not her father or her mother but Amanda does when she knows the difference….so what happens to Amanda is Amanda’s fault not her parents ….
Sorry dear this was meant for a answer under my statment…
Welcome the the new Amanda Bynes Show….Only this one is not on Nickelodeon but on every freaking media gossip site on the net……..Amanda has mental problems yes, but she went through detox, rehab and treatment and came out without any diagnosis of any mental disease or condition…As long as she stays away from Drugs and alcohol and weed…That’s why her parents don’t believe she is “mentally ill” because she is not (when she is clean and sober) which she in NOT now….A mentally ill person is still smart enough to at least try to act normal especially when people are watching or cameras are looking but Not Amanda..she does her crazy acts were they will be seen and reported …like stealing that hat in NYC yesterday in front of the Papz and slowly walking out so she would get caught by the security….that was a deliberate act on her part…she is playing for the spotlight and I have lost all feeling sorry for Amanda…
Bull.
She is clearly mentally ill and the reason we don’t know her exact diagnosis is because of privacy laws. I can’t believe you think this is an act for fame. SMH.
I 100000% agree @ Claire.
The Drug use and alcohol cause her “mental illness.” ….as long as she uses she will be “mentally ill”…..and it is obvious she is using///the photo of her smoking a blunt of weed proves that……
Not meaning to be rude, Ketjo, but I have a lot of problems with your assertion. Amanda’s parents, like you, blame all of her problems on weed. That insinuates that most people who smoke walk around talking to inanimate objects, speak in broken and fragmented sentences, are barely cognizant of where they are/what they’re doing/who they’re speaking to/what they’re saying, are pathological liars living mostly in their imaginations, etc. That’s just not true and it continues to stigmatize marijuana in an inaccurate way. My other problem is that you’re insinuating that a young woman who is clearly mentally ill is at fault for her own mental illness and if she’d just straighten up and fly right she would be fine. Mental illness is much, much more complicated than that, and schizophrenia (which is what it seems like shes suffering from) takes lifelong management. Of course, marijuana can excaberate her symptoms, but it’s not the cause of them.
They are not causing her mental illness, but they are known to exacerbate episodes of EXISTING mental illness. A schizophrenic using is a bad scene. She very clearly has an existing mental illness. End of story.
I WILL be rude. Ketjo, you have NO idea what diagnoses exist for her. You have NO idea about how mental illness presents itself. And this comment: “A mentally ill person is still smart enough to at least try to act normal especially when people are watching or cameras are looking” is a load of crap. Actually, this comment makes me irrationally angry. Mental illness knows know education level, no socioeconomic background, no race, creed, or color. And people with mental illness (especially one like schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder) don’t generally hide their illness. In many cases, people aren’t even AWARE of how their illness presents to the world, nor do they particularly care.
Amanda Bynes presents with symptoms of several possible diagnoses. Drugs and alcohol clearly have exacerbated her illness. But she can’t just quit doing drugs and magically “get better.” Just not going to happen.
Oh I know you are not being rude ….you just have a different opinion than I do…We are not lemans and don’t have to agree or like what ever others say…..I didn’t say weed alone was the trigger for her mental problems I said it was one of the triggers along with drugs and alcohol which ‘triggers ” her actions….
She may have other problems but I will tell you one thing ….Drugs and alcohol seems to be a major part of her “problems ” and just as other people think I am rude because I am not jumping on the “poor Amanda Bandwagon ” I will be rude and say I am not buying what she is selling her past history and I don’t mean the last couple of years but her years as a child star will give you a bigger picture….She is not a nice sweet innocent child star….brilliant yes …nice no….but this is a free country and each of us has the right to our own opinion …and I have seen or read nothing to change mine..
Good thing you’re not a psychiatrist then.
This is just so sad. She’s so obviously unwell. It’s a shame her well-intentioned parents did not have a more complete understanding of mental illness, and ended up stopping the conservatorhip and getting her off the medication that she clearly needs. I’m sure they meant no harm and wanted the best for her; we live in a society where ignorance and stigma is the norm with respect to mental illness. But maybe her family is seeing these headlines and will see that their first instincts were wrong and Amanda needs extensive and permanent therapeutic care.
The parents are not the problem, Amanda is, she is clearly off her meds and not seeking treatment, just like the vast majority of mentally ill people in our country. She is a 28 year old woman, she is not a ward of the state or her parents. The conservatorship was never permanent, it ended and guess what, Amanda is back doing the same stuff the led to the conservatorship in the first place.
I’m sorry to say this but, I’m sure it’s what lots of other people are thinking anyway; they’re going to find this woman dead!
I think so, too. This is not going to end well.
Oh my…
She tried to take a shirt somewhere else the same day.
Someone needs to help this young woman. Yesterday. This is heartbreaking!
http://m.tmz.com/2014/10/09/amanda-bynes-theft-second-shoplifting-spree-homeless-crackhead-nyc/
I think it’s inappropriate to publish an interview with someone who is so obviously struggling with a mental illness to the point that she visibly does not have control over what she does/says. Zero ethics, In Touch.
So sad. Amanda is mentally ill and I wish the gossips would leave her alone. I believe she is suffering from schizophrenia and it appears she is off her meds.
+10000000
Imo, it speaks volumes about these celebrity kids’ parents that they would put in a lot of effort to get their kids famous but then not put in the same effort to make sure they’re stable once the kids have reached adulthood. And it’s not just the new crowd of celebrity kids who are now adults, but it’s been happening for a long time.
I’m shocked by how many people think her family is to blame or that they have some kind of magical control they’re not using. This woman is suffering from mental illness and she is free. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with her parents. How are they supposed to exercise “the same effort” to make sure she’s stable? She is not stable and it’s not her parents fault, just like it’s not her fault that she’s ill and her thoughts are disorganized. That’s the reality of mental illness, a lack of options available to help someone like Amanda or her family.
This is so f-ing sad 🙁 she was a great actress, really funny, loved her parents and had a promising future. Is it hard drugs? I think she has multiple personality disorder or schizophrenia. She is not in her right mind anymore 🙁
I’m in a grad psychology program at the moment, and it’s like holy crap, she is a perfect example of how debilitating these illnesses can be. I have no idea what’s going on with her, since I’m not her clinician. That said. . .she is of age for onset of schizophrenia, and the hallucinations and delusions she has about. . .well, many things, but especially the devise implantation are very common with schizophrenia. This disease can be managed, but most people with it are not able to function well in the world, even with it. It’s super hard on families, so I really feel for her parents. And while her drug use may contribute to the illness’ severity, it almost assuredly is not wholly responsible. Schizophrenia is a chemical and genetic thing that is still very mysterious, but it’s pretty clear from the research that one does not “catch” schizophrenia from the Evil Reefer that the kids are smoking nowadays. So yeah. This is about wayyyyy more than just drug use. More likely, she’s been using weed and other drugs to self-medicate.
Whatever is going on with her, man oh man, I feel nothing but empathy and compassion. This is not easy for anyone involved, including her. Severe mental illness like this is so incredibly isolating. It’s doubtful they’ll be able to 5150 her unless she does something pretty drastic, but. . .I hope they’re able to.
Also, thank you, dear Ronald Reagan, for making sure to shut down the majority of mental health institutions and take away all funding. BRILLIANT IDEA with no negative consequences at all.
Clearly, she doesn’t want help. She’ll keep doing what she is doing until she is forced to get help. That’s how this type of mental illness works. Why is that so hard for people to understand?
Yes, someone should help her. However, she doesn’t want their help, or anyone’s help. She doesn’t understand/believe that anything is wrong. It’s everyone else who has a problem, not her (in her eyes).
It bothers me that a tabloid is profiting off her illness. Sick.
It’s possible she does really have a microchip in her brain. That IS being done, folks. I’m not saying she isn’t mentally unstable, but there is more to it than just that.
Don’t be ridiculous, this is a serious situation and shouldn’t be trivialized.
Yup. But don’t talk about it because people might think you are ‘crazy’.
