In a new interview with the Daily Mail, which uses some old quotes so it’s hard to tell exactly what he said that day, Johnny Depp speaks about his family, his long term girlfriend and about his old relationship with Kate Moss. He says he was born on the day his daughter, Lily Rose, came into the world, and that she means everything to him.

He speaks highly of Kate Moss and says that she’s a great mom and she could do well with Pete Doherty. He’s also incredibly romantic when describing how he saw his girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, for the first time across the room:

His relationship with Kate Moss in the mid-Nineties was intense and passionate, but not quite as in the legends.

He denies the story about filling a bath with champagne at the Portobello Hotel in which he and Moss supposedly bathed.

“I wish it was true,” he says, with a sad little smile.

He is clearly uneasy talking about Kate, whom he’s not spoken to since they split up.

One feels this is more out of loyalty to Paradis than lack of love for Moss.

“I was not good for Kate,” he says. “But she’s a strong girl and a great girl and very smart.”

He says he was shocked at her treatment by newspapers, who nicknamed her Cocaine Kate.

“Dragging her through the mud like that – they are weird and two-faced.

“Let her be! I have never met Pete Doherty, but I think he has talent and he and Kate could be great together.

“She’s got a great brain on her and she’s a good mummy.”

Depp met Paradis, whom he touchingly refers to as “my girl” – possibly the only man in the world who could use this term of endearment without it sounding ridiculous – in France in 1998.

He was filming the Roman Polanski movie The Ninth Gate at the time.

It was one of those instant connections.

“You have this feeling – I can’t really explain what it was, but I had it when I met Vanessa.

I saw her across a room and I thought: “What’s happening to me?”

“I had no way of knowing how great a person she was or how great a mother she would be.

“I can remember thinking the last thing in the world I wanted was a relationship, but it was impossible to escape. I was gone.”

He paints such a lovely picture with that story and he clearly adores his family and wife. It’s also quite kind of him to speak so highly of Kate when he could have easily dismissed the question or given a quick answer and changed the subject.

In another recent interview with Entertainment Weekly Magazine, Johnny Depp said that he wouldn’t endorse toothpaste named after his popular character on the Pirates of the Caribbean series, Captain Jack. It would just betoo weird to have a guy with gold teeth selling dental hygiene products, he said.

Depp praises Keith Richards in the interview, saying he was a conssumate professional when filming scenes for the upcoming Pirates movie. He said Richards is incredibly charismatic and a great actor who could nail a scene in a couple of takes.

When asked about his recent success, Depp says he’s greatful and doesn’t really think about how powerful he is or what his status is in Hollywood. He said that concept is kind of foreign to him. He said “I just feel glad that I still get jobs to where I don’t have to sell out or sell my soul… Although maybe I sold my soul already. I don’t know, it’s hard to tell.”

There are rumors that Johnny is set to marry his longterm girlfriend and mother of his two children, Vanessa Paradis, but those same rumors came up last year around this time too.
