Over the summer, there were some rumors about Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi and the state of their union. Apparently, they’ve been fighting a lot this year. Portia might have thought that Ellen was fooling around and Ellen might have thought that Portia was/is abusing substances. Allegedly, Portia even checked into rehab in June as well. The story sort of died out, especially when Ellen blamed the tabloids for creating the rumors out of thin air. But now Page Six reports that Ellen and Portia had a huge blow-out fight over the weekend and it was so bad that they had to cancel an appearance at the last minute:
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi didn’t show up at a charity fund-raiser for rescued animals after having a huge fight in the car on the way to Sunday’s event, sources tell Page Six. The power couple was on the way to the Saving SPOT! fund-raiser at Tiato in Santa Monica when they got into an argument and turned around without attending the event, even though they were listed and pictured on the invitation as hosts. Ellen and Portia on Monday insisted to Page Six they had informed the charity they would be unable to make it and their picture should not have been on the invitation.
A source told us: “Ellen and Portia were supposed to be at the event at 5 p.m., but at 6:30 p.m., the media was still waiting for their arrival. Reporters were told they were on their way, until the head of the charity informed everyone at the end of the event that they weren’t going to make it due to ‘logistics.’”
The source added, “Ellen and Portia were delayed and were in the car on the way, when they had an epic fight. They ended up turning around and not going to the fund-raiser.”
Saving SPOT! is a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing dogs and providing them with caring owners. Ellen and Portia attended last year’s benefit in Beverly Hills and had been happy to be listed as hosts for this year’s event, we’re told. Ellen — a generous animal-welfare supporter — and Portia said in a statement to Page Six: “We were happy to lend our names as honorary chairs and the organization was always aware that we would be unable to attend. This is the first time we have seen our images attached to the invite. It was not approved and it is misleading.”
DeGeneres’ attorney Marty Singer said, “The story is a complete lie. My client told the organizer they never agreed nor planned to attend the event. There was no fight that caused them not to attend.” The charity didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Ellen recently slammed divorce rumors and reports of arguments on the season premiere of her talk show. “I had a great summer,” she said in September. “I went on a trip with Portia, my beautiful wife — who I am happily married to, but thank you for your heartfelt concern, tabloids.”
Yeah, I don’t know, you guys. I think they RSVP’d to attend the charity event – they were hosts, for goodness sake! – and the press was told to expect them. I think they really did cancel at the last minute and the fact that they’re lying about it (through their rep) means that there’s some truth to Page Six’s story. But then again, I’ve always believed that Ellen and Portia have real problems and that they might split up sooner rather than later.

I can believe it. Something about ellen has always seemed like she’s less fun behind closed doors. And Portia seems to have real issues with her looks.
I’ve always had trouble detecting the fun and/or humor that’s supposed to be intentional coming from Ellen.

Our findings are that the sample bow has not been untied since construction of the garment. The bow is not a curl. Style CSI does not like to be called to scenes for frivolous follies.

I tend to think when someone screws with their face that much, there’s deeper issues. I love Arrested Developement & I watched all 4 seasons on Netflix, by S4 (after a few years hiatus) I had no idea that was Portia! She looked like a completely different actress.
She’s been pretty open about her body image issues, so I can see that extending or changing into plastic surgery issues too. She did look different, though I loved her haircut in AD4. She’s a really talented comedic actress, I always root for her.
She started screwing around with her face before Arrested Development. If you can get your hands on Ally McBeal, you can see she was stunning. I’m just sad she doesn’t look like that anymore.
Wow, I find this so disappointing! Who flakes on an animal rescue? I also wish that statement from Marty Singer also said “however, Ellen and Portia LOVE Saving SPOT! and are pleased to announce a $1 million gift.” (And sure, it doesn’t have to be announced, but I hope they generously donated to that organization. Even if the organizers of the fundraisers were completely wrong about expecting the two of them to attend, Portia and Ellen still look like jerks.)
Ugh @ flaking on an animal charity. I’ve always had trouble separating Portia from her Ally McBeal character. She’s pretty vapid on Arrested Development too.

I’ve been side-eyeing them since Portia related the story about telling Ellen she had 35 million twitter followers and Ellen responded with “I’ve got $35M”. That just struck me as kinda passive aggressive and reminding Portia who has the power/money in that family.
I hate what Portia has done to her face, but she’s admitted to some serious mental issues in the past.
What? Portia lied and said she had 35M followers? Does she even have 350,000? I hope this was a just a joke if she made that claim.
As for Page Six,I believe them as much as I believed them when they said Jay and Beyonce would divorce immediately after their last show.
Well, The Original Mia got that a little wrong. Portia said she had 32 thousand twitter followers and Ellen responded by saying she had 32 million (twitter followers, not money – for gods sake)

@Mamacita, thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was rather crass to be honest. Glad to hear that wasn’t the case. I still think there is a power imbalance in that relationship. Be it money or mental stability. Something is off.

Cf. John Travolta being a hot hetero male, Charlie Sheen being sober at all times, and Tom Cruise being… I don’t know what exactly, as there are so many things MS has tried to bury.
Rumor has it the fight may have been over Portia’s desire to have children.
I’m willing to believe this fight happened, and it’s a shame the animal charity suffered for it. If all this is true, they need to figure it out or go their separate ways.
I have long suspected trouble on their homefront. Ellen has a pattern of hooking up with women who are emotionally unstable. Portia has admitted she had some issues, and I think they’re probably deep-seeded and more than just about her looks. When a man keeps seeking out women with emotional problems and insecurities, we’d say he must be insecure himself and feel the need to control the relationship and that he must enjoy his parnter’s insecurities on some level. I don’t see these two as any different. I think Ellen needs to be with someone emotionally fragile because it gives her the edge in the relationship.
I sincerely hope they do no have children in any way – adoption, in vitro, whatever. Portia isn’t stable enough to be thinking about bringing kids into their troubles. It bothers me that some women think children will fix their problems. No! You end up with children who have crappy childhoods because you brought them into a world of fighting, instability, chaos, and emotional turmoil. Please don’t!

Portia wants a family and Ellen doesn’t, she is apparently very controlling and forced Portia to publicly retract a statement she made that she would like to have children. I appears Portia is finally tired of being dictated to and hiding her head in a bottle and is beginning to standing up for herself.
