Here are some fashion photos from last night’s Hollywood Film Awards. You can see the full list of winners/presenters here. Keira Knightley won the Hollywood Supporting Actress Award for The Imitation Game. I think she’ll probably end up getting nominations at every awards show, and we should welcome that. Keira always brings some interesting fashion, plus there are rumors that she’s knocked up (and I hope she is!). Keira wore this surprisingly heavy-looking Giambattista Valli last night, in the on-trend color of white. This whole look isn’t my particular jam, but I always appreciate that Keira likes intricate, delicate, interesting-looking gowns and dresses. It’s nice to see her covered up too. Here’s her winning speech (she just seems so “light” these days).
Reese Witherspoon in J. Mendel – she was just there to present and this look was utterly boring.
Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen. She didn’t win anything, she was just there to help push The Theory of Everything and to support Eddie Redmayne. I thought this McQueen was too conservative but then I caught on that the skirt is see-through. So… not bad.
Queen Latifah in Badgley Mischka. She was the hostess of the HFAs and she was pretty awkward throughout. It pains me to say that because I love Latifah. At least her dress was pretty.
Jennifer Lopez was there to present Best Animated Film to How To Train Your Dragon 2, only she flubbed her line and said “How to Drain Your Dragon.” Considering Gerard Butler was there to accept the award, you can insert your porto-potty joke here. J.Lo wore Zuhair Murad.

Its pure Kiera Knightly.
Cant think of another actress that could pull it off. Loved her speech too!!
+1
My favorite Keira look of all time.
“When women are such a minority in all fields”.. I guess Keira didn’t pick up much actual math ability whilst prepping for this role. Indeed women are underrepresented in the hard sciences and upper eschelons of management, but still comprise a significant portion of the workforce. Not that someone outside the workforce would necessarily know that.
All’s a bit of an overstatement, but I don’t think it’s as misleading as you do.
And yes, women make up a significant portion of the workforce, and in some fields are in the majority, but career to career can vary widely. And we still usually earn less.

A “minority” can mean in number or in power. In the latter respect, she’s right. Seems petty to nitpick that one statement just to insult her.
Actually, as a career woman, it is not a small point to me. I dislike her, true. She always comes across as smug to me, but she’s also wrong. If she’s going to play the sisterhood card, she should stick to subjects she knows about.
I would consider that part of the problem, then – the fact that the maths and sciences are wholly represented by men in media, while the women working in it are always behind the scenes. I get what Knightley was going for with the statement, but I also agree with your point that erasing the number of women who actually are in the field is problematic, too.
@lindy79 – *coughcough* I think Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton would like to have a word…. 😉 I love the dress, it’s a bit offbeat and I think she really pulls it off.
I love Reese Witherspoon’s dress. Keira’s seemed very heavy on the bottom. She looks glowing though.
Hmm glowing, I wonder if she is pregnant? Dress is very heavy and she is very slim, so say “no” to the dress.
Keira will always be stunning in whatever she wears. She looks really happy considering all the traveling and Promtional work she’s done
Keira was lovely last night. Loved her speech.
Reese was in full Tracy Flick mode during her presentation speech. Seriously too perky – tone it down Reese. Next thing we know you’ll be ripping down all of Julianne Moore’s For Your Consideration posters.
Ha!!
I liked parts of Keira’s dress but not the total look of it. Her styling was impeccable as always. She takes chances and usually succeeds. Her speech was gracious and Keira always brings a sense of fun, even when she is discussing serious topics, like the role of women in WWII code-breaking.
The branch/flower motif on the top of the dress was lovely and it felt English country, vintage. I thought the top half of the dress didn’t match the bottom.
I felt similarly- loved the fit and embellishment of the top ( I can even forgive the poofy bell sleeve), but the bottom- meh.
AntiSoc…
The top is pure 1940’s vintage…but, the top should be paired with high waisted, full cut trousers. I am sure I’ve seen an ensemble like this before in an old movie. Kiera’s ‘Veronica Lake’ hairstyle works well with the vintage motif of the dress too.
How to DRAIN your dragon??? AHAHAHHAA! Jenny from the block, that was the best flub ever.
Who wears a see-through top when presenting an award to a kid’s movie?? J.Lo could’ve put her boobs away for at least 1 event…
i think it’s paneling and isn’t sheer
There is a strange missing nipple situation going on. I know it isn’t see-through, but I would probably never suggest a sheer panel on the bewbs.
Reese’s dress is my favorite by far. Felicity Jones’ dress isn’t bad. The rest are just awful.
Keira is beautiful, but that dress looks like somebody tried to wrap her up and give her as a wedding gift.
Or as a wedding cake, resplendent with a fondant architecture!
I want jlo to date the butler and drain his dragon!
I would love it, sleeves and all if the skirt was a little less complicated. Not smooth, just less texture than what is there.
I don’t like Keira’s dress at all, too heavy.
By the way I cracked up at ‘How to drain your dragon’ + Gerald Butler… LOL seriously.
I don’t know if Keira is pregnant or not, but I mentioned the weight gain in September at TIFF and nobody said anything: http://www.celebitchy.com/386493/benedict_cumberbatch_at_the_tiff_photocall_for_tig_would_you_hit_it
Gerry Butler is manic and addicted to sex and can’t sustain his relationships and needs to fire his agent, AND I adore him. I think he’s the real deal and I miss seeing him in dramatic roles. I’ll take Gerry over any of these carefully groomed, phony twits, any day of the year. Okay, bring it! Whine to me about the porto-potty, again. I don’t want to have sex with the guy, I want to see him act. I love his charisma, his talent and his masculinity. So sue me!
I’d probably want to wear 5 body condoms and get decontaminated after an evening with him, but I still like him. I don’t even know why.
I do think he is a great actor (coriolanus?machine gun preacher, anyone?!), but his life style keeps people from paying attention. He always gives fun interviews!
He’s a raving beauty! As they say, sex on legs!
Yes! It’s relieving that others feel the same way. I watched the clip thinking to myself “damn he’s looking good.” If I would’ve been there, I would’ve gone home with him.
Can’t forgive him for Phantom of the Opera (or anyone associated with that movie). He couldn’t hit a note to save his life in that film. I did like him in Rock-n-Rolla though.
I went to see Coriolanus expecting to be embarrassed for him because all I knew about him was what ‘s in your first sentence. How wouldn’t he be ridicule in scenes with Ralph Fiennes or Vanessa Redgrave? Guess what, I went out absolutely thrilled by his performance.
And since it’s basically mandatory in my household to watch surf related movies, I sat through Chasing Mavericks and found myself quite entertained.
So,I won’t sue you.
Keira is beautiful and smart and looks gorgeous. I wish I could say the same about her acting though. I thought she was pretty much repetitive in everything I saw her in: Pirates, Love Actually, Atonement… Maybe I should try watching some other films with her?
Keira seems like a nice enough person – though maybe not as ‘down to earth’ as she’d like to think – but she’s a horrible actress. She puts me off going to see any film she’s in, even if I’d otherwise like to see it. I wouldn’t mind if she just got eye candy or fluff roles, but she gets cast in all these plum roles in prestigious films. I’d love to see other young actresses getting a chance.
She was awful in Anna Karenina. I thought she was pretty decent in Pride and Prejudice.
She can act the same in most of her films. I must say that I really did enjoy the Duchess. I was surprise really by how much I loved her in that film.
@Etheldreda: agreed re: casting other actresses. Keira is stylish and beautiful with a very special kind of beauty, and I like her interviews and her persona. But.. yeah. Based on her acting skills, I just do not see why she’s cast in so many films.
@jammy and M.A.F.: thanks for the recs, ladies!
Try Atonement, The Duchess and Last night. That’s the three performances from her that I really enjoyed (among those I’ve seen obviously).
Never let me go was good too,but Carey Mulligan and Andrew Garfield did it for me more than Keira Knightley.
Apparently when asked by a reporter “how do you balance work and personal life” she replied something along the lines “will you be asking the male attendees this?”
Love it.
+1
brilliant! I think Scarlett Johannson did the same at an Avengers press conference. They ask her dieting question while her male costars get asked how they approach their characters.
Jammy thats exactly what came to my mind. The guys all got character driven questions and she got “how did you fit into your catsuit”.
Love it when this crap is called out.
Keira is so great, but…the skirt’s the mess that killed the dress. The top half is perfect. The rest of the looks are not doing it for me.
I like all the dresses. I don’t love any of them, but I like them all.
(except I do love the willow design on the top of Keira’s dress)
is she expecting?
“Felicity Jones didn’t win anything…” and that is a crime. This woman has more talent than every other actress her age.
Jennifer Lopez looked incredible last night. So beautiful!
Keira looks like a walking winter wonderland owl 😳
J. Lo’s dress is beautiful, but I hate the orangey-red lipstick trend. Red lipstick with a blue base is SO much more flattering to just about every skin tone.
Reese Witherspoon’s dress made me think of the Joker’s girlfriend. I like J.Lo’s dress and I really like the outfit Felicity Jones is wearing.
what a lovely speech!
Jlo is so freakin fierce!
I agree, simply striking!
I am kind of obsessed with her dress here. Actually, her entire look! WOW!
Keira is elevating that dress beyond what it is, but I don’t like it overall. The ruffled skirt seems too fussy with the ornate top. A sleeker cut would have been more flattering to me. I am surprised by how much I like Felicity Jones’ McQueen. I think it’s because the skirt isn’t so LOOK AT ME transparent like the Gucci dresses from a few years back…it also avoids that “adult diaper” look by extending the skirt farther down.
I like the top of Keiras dress but the bottom doesn’t match, maybe if the whole thing was the same fabric as the top it would probably work better. And she has been looking pregnant for a while now.
And I love Felicitys dress.
Loved Felicity’s dress!
JLO wins handsdown.
I LOVE the top of Jennifer’s dress, how it looks like the flowers are painted on.
I like the top of Keira’s but the bottom looks too heavy.
I actually like Reese’s look a lot.
I would like Felicity’s except for the sheer skirt.
I hate JLo’s dress.
