Julianne Moore is the frontrunner for Best Actress at all of the awards shows. You just get a feeling about some people, and I hate to say it this way, but it’s not always about the actor’s performance. I have no doubt that Julianne is brilliant in Still Alice – in fact, I just watched the new trailer and she’s already got me crying. But Julianne is the frontrunner this year because sometimes everything lines up and the Academy just wants to give an actor the award for their body of work, and perhaps because that actor hasn’t won before. A similar thing happened when Jeff Bridges won. It wasn’t that his performance in Crazy Heart was all that memorable, it’s that he had never won an Oscar, he has an amazing body of work and it was his “turn”.
Which isn’t to say that Julianne won’t have to put up some fight for it. She will. Some of her fellow nominees are already coming for her. Like… Jennifer Aniston?
Julianne Moore — the front-runner for a Best Actress Oscar for “Still Alice” — says she was ignored when her film debuted because of Jennifer Aniston.
“No one came to our screening” at the Toronto International Film Festival because they wanted to see Aniston, she joked at a Le Cirque reception hosted by Ellen Barkin. “We did a red carpet and there were, like, three people from the Canadian press.”
She and Aniston will compete for attention again at the Golden Globes, as both are nominees.
Yeah, to be fair to Julianne, Aniston got her boobs out for her TIFF screening. That’s why all of the reporters were there! As for Aniston and Julianne being in direct competition… well, I guess I shouldn’t say anything. I still can’t believe Aniston got those nominations, so obviously, I’m not the best judge of the Best Actress race.
And here’s a good little slice of Julianne’s campaign – she spoke to the NYT right after she got her Golden Globes nomination and she confessed that she was up for the announcement, with her kids, and she was waiting to hear if her name was called (twice!). Most of them don’t admit it! I like her more for admitting that she was up (she was cleaning her waffle iron at the time).

Difinitely no justice in Hollywood award world if Jennifer wins awards over Julianna. These two are in two different league and Jennifer can’t hold a candle to Julianna’s acting talent.
PS: Julianna the reason Jennifer is getting those nominations is because she is bribing the awards people (critics have outed her and put pictures up as evidence) and also because in her own words – she went down on her knees.

Do you really think a box of four cupcakes (sent with BFCA screeners — hardly unusual — Bradley Cooper’s team was sending Elephant Man tickets) is enough to buy off voters?
Cupcakes? She’s now being accused of buying/bribing critics/voters with cupcakes? Enough to buy her multiple nominations in various awards races/lists?

Maybe, just maybe, all those private screenings she did for critics and voters is what worked so well for her because it was only after those screenings that she started to get any momentum. Not to say she’s not hustling and campaigning hard for awards, because she is, but I think the hustle is more in the vein of all the courting she’s doing with the special screenings to get the movie before the right people.
Sorry but sending something to gain something in return is classified as bribing.
The truth is, Aniston is popular and well liked in hollywood and her public persona [not on certain internet blogs] is ‘approachable’ and still a bit of a fun, girl next store vibe-not threatening, seems upbeat, etc. Whether people agree with that or not, it is the reality. The same way those who dislike AJ will say she’s not powerful or admired, when clearly she is.
So let’s not distort the truth by calling facts opinion. Also, I highly doubt JA’s ‘boobs’ were the cause of all the press in Canada. She sells tabloids. People are interested in her. Yes, Juliane Moore is infinitely more talented as an actor. But people don’t even necessarily know who she is, believe it or not. I personally have only seen a couple of her movies and while she is talented, I don’t find her compelling or charismatic on screen. She’s rather boring to watch, in my opinion.
That said, I don’t watch Aniston movies on purpose. But I know who she is and her pop culture persona is widely known.

In my opinion, it is a stretch to call a box of cupcakes bribery. If that’s all it takes to get a critic to turn in your favor, then hot damn, I won’t give too much credence to any crtics’ award nominations.
Plus as JibberJabber points out, the guy talks about getting all kinds of packages from studios. It’s standard operating procedure for all studios.

Moore is the perfect example of a woman of age growing gracefully all while getting work. There’s no need for fake engagements and pregnancies. She does not have to do a press conferences telling showing everyone she a serious actor because she went without make-up and didn’t workout for s couple of weeks. She never bring up past relationships or vaguely refer to them to stay in the media.
Ms Moore is a true talent without help from the Hollywood machine.

Julianne or Rosamund. Either way i’m fine. Jennifer won’t win, but there’s nothing wrong with her being acknowledged. Some of you guys are being nasty about it. She campaigned hard yes, so did Angelina, so did Benedict. Everybody does it in their own way.
