Sony Hack: Emails from Angelina Jolie, Leo DiCaprio, George Clooney & more

wenn21749702

There are still SO MANY interesting pieces of information coming out of the Sony Hack. I mean, nothing beats Scott Rudin’s hissy fit about Angelina Jolie, obviously. But there’s still lots of interesting stuff. So, in the interest of brevity, let’s just do some highlights. Am I the only one who doesn’t care at all about the Sony Hack reveal of the new James Bond film, Spectre? Sony is worried that the budget will bloat up to $300 million and the studio hates the ending – go here to read. And The Daily Beast did two lengthy write-ups of some new info from the Sony Hack – go here and here to read. Some interesting stories:

*Scott Rudin and Angelina Jolie were emailing about David Fincher and Jolie remarked that Fincher “may be difficult but is brilliant” and Rudin replied “‘May be difficult’?!?! Like Hitler ‘may be anti-Semitic’!!!”

*Lots of legal drama over Ghostbusters. Bill Murray & Sony are in the midst of some legal wrangling about the Ghostbusters film. As for the all-female cast, Sony wants Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Melissa McCarthy, and maybe Amy Schumer and Lizzy Kaplan.

*Brad Pitt’s email alias involves “—- Phizz” and he signs his emails B P McWee.

*Sony honchos don’t want to make an Edward Snowden bio-pic now that Oliver Stone is making another one.

*Spike Lee is making an update to School Daze and apparently Drake is going to star in it. With that old whore Kevin Hart.

*Aaron Sorkin is broke and possibly sleeping with a coworker, or at least that’s what Amy Pascal tells her colleagues.

*No one wants to go to Steven Spielberg’s Democratic fundraisers anymore. Everybody is tapped out because Spielberg hits them up for contributions all the time.

*Amy Pascal is super-cozy with Ryan Gosling’s talent manager Ilene Feldman. Feldman tells Pascal that Gosling “absolutely loved you” and that he really wants to do Ghostbusters… with Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone.

*Pascal sort of wanted Gosling for the Steve Jobs bio-pic.

*Pascal was disgusted by the way Leonardo DiCaprio suddenly dropped his interest in the Steve Jobs film. Another executive emails Pascal about Leo’s “horrible behavior” when Leo simply “changed his mind” about the film, and Pascal emails back, “Actually despicable.”

*Everybody hates Jaden and Willow Smith. Tim Rothman (the head of TriStar) forwarded Pascal the NYT interview with Jaden and Willow with the message “1. Read this. 2. they r home schooled: don’t let this family date your movies!!!”

*Channing Tatum’s emails are pretty much what you would expect – after the box office report came out for 22 Jump Street and they realized how much money the film made, Channing sent a victory email to Pascal, Jonah Hill and other executives – go here to see.

And here’s a final story: George Clooney emailed Pascal just before The Monuments Men was released in theaters. The email dates to January 29, 2014, because TMM had already been pushed back from its late-2013 release. Because the film wasn’t actually very good at all, and George was in post-production for a while trying to save it. And George was really worried about the reviews, so he emailed Pascal with the subject heading “it’s getting worse.” He wrote: “I need some protection from all the reviews. Let’s just make it a hit. I haven’t slept in 30 hours. And it’s 7 am.” Pascal wrote back: “we will protect you by making money… that’s the best revenge.” The next day, George wrote her back: “I adore you Amy. You are literally the only person running a studio that loves film. I fear I’ve let you all down. Not my intention. I apologize. I’ve just lost touch… Who knew? Sorry. I won’t do it again.” Aw. That one is kind of nice.

I guess because I was a paralegal for so long, and I know that if you’re sued, one of the first things they ask for are emails, I just can’t believe the stupidity of these people.

    • Snazzy says:

yes exactly! It just goes to show how much they see themselves as “above” the rules of the real world.

      • chloe says:

I know someone that tried to sue a college and they pulled up his Facebook account, case closed. I don’t send anything personal over company email, I still have a couple of idiots I work with that hasn’t clued into this yet.

      • Mainstay says:

Clooney sounds whiny, needy and manipulative.

    • Talie says:

Yeah, and it’s their work emails, which is just crazy. If I have something important to say, I write back, “Call me.”

      • Ginger says:

I do the same! Very smart!

      • Dolce crema says:

Haha this is what my kids teacher does. I’d prefer to have everything in writing, I know she is trying to pretect herself

      • mia girl says:

@Dolcecrema – My kids’ teachers do that as well!
When they want to bring something about your child to your attention, they will write it in am email. But when you are reaching out to discuss something you may not be pleased with, or to discuss something you are not clear on, then they suggest a call. Can’t blame them, I suppose.

    • Ginger says:

So true! I worked in a prosecutors office for ten years. It’s amazing how stupid remarks or photos on social media or in e-mails and even texts can come back to haunt people.

    • noway says:

+1000% This is what I don’t get. The time they take to type the comment then send it, no one thought oops I might have a problem if someone else reads this email. Really stupid they should be fired for their stupidity.

    • Jlynn says:

Agreed. Attorney/client privilege saves no soul from hacking. Oooh chile.

  2. MrsBPitt says:

Wow….Clooney sounds pretty humble! Who would have thunk it!!!!

The rest of the emails sound about right…I’m sure they were pissed at DiCaprio for suddenly pulling out of the Jobs biopic….I’m sure everyone hates the Smith kids…I’m sure everyone is sick of being hit up for money from Spielberg…etc. Nothing too surpising in this group of emails…

    • Esmom says:

Humble, yes, yet his groveling to her seemed kind of undignified to me. Sad that it’s the game they have to play.

    • qwerty says:

” Who would have thunk it!!!!”

Most people, I’d guess… he does not have a reputation for having a big ego, quite the opposite, and you always read how nice and thoughtful he is when interviewed etc.

      • I do think Clooney is pretty much a nice guy (MAYBE a little too full of himself–but with as much ass kissing he gets, it could be worse)–but he just comes across as so staged to me. Ultimately it’s what turns me off about him.

    • Kim1 says:

He sounds pathetic to me.I had a better opinion of him before leaked email’s
.Well anyway I am hearing the Chrismas release will out some Gay celebs and some homophobic ones. There will also be more racist stuff that’s why Pascal has hooked up with Sharpton to get ahead of it.The Obama remarks are harmless compared to what is coming.

      • Sara says:

Me too! And now I know for certain that all the pieces about Amal and the wedding were totally staged. Faker.

  3. Goodgirl12 says:

You made a mistake about the bill Murray email

The email was talking about sony executives suing bill Murray to get him to return to the franchise not bill Murray suing because there is going to be an all female ghostbusters

    • Jegede says:

I think another mistake was that it was the director Paul Feig, who was looking into casting Stone and Lawrence for Ghostbusters and not Gosling’s idea

  4. Abbott says:

And I thought my office holiday parties were going to be awkward. Award season is going to be magical.

  5. Lb says:

Channing Tatum’s email had me rolling. Too funny. I have stopped trying to explain why I like him. I just do.

I thought the studio was going to sue Bill Murray, and not vice-versa. Too much information coming out to keep track but I’m pretty sure they want to sue him to join the movies. I can’t imagine Bill Murray getting butt hurt about an all female cast.

Aaron Sorkin had an op Ed about this in the NY Times. As much fun as it is to read some of these emails, and as awful as I find Aaron Sorkin, it did remind me of all those lower leven employees whose personal information is out there for the public. I read elsewhere that some of their information is being used to open credit cards, etc. That’s just awful.

    • Erinn says:

I refuse to watch Channing in anything emotional, or dramatic. I find him so funny when he’s doing comedy. I got suckered into a double date for the movie he did with Rachel McAdams a while back and sobbed and sobbed. I love his email. It’s just such an over the top, excited message. I send that kind of crap between coworkers – not to bosses, though really, mine have an amazing sense of humor and end up sending tonsss of not so professional stuff to our team: gotta know your audience.

I liked the Clooney email. And I really liked TMM. I think that’s really more of how Clooney is in general. I think for the most part, he’s not carrying a hugely inflated ego when it comes to actual work. I’ve loved him since Oh Brother Where Art Thou.

      • Kiddo says:

Oh Brother Where Art Thou is probably my favorite Clooney film. I don’t love him in super dramatic leading man roles.

      • mia girl says:

I do like him in some dramatic roles (i.e. I really like the Descendants). Plus I still love One Fine Day.

But yeah Erin & Kiddo agree that he’s great in Oh Brother. But my favorite might be Intolerable Cruelty (also a Cohen Bros film). I think the whole film is underappreciated, but Clooney’s performance especially.

      • Ginger says:

I used to dislike Clooney until I saw “O Brother Where Art Thou.” I really appreciate an actor that can make fun of himself. It changed my whole perspective on him.

      • Erinn says:

And O Brother is such a field day with quotes! “I’m the damn paterfamilias!” “But you aint bona fide!” “we thought… you was… a TOAD”.

I really loved Clooney in that. I love when he’s just playing a wordy, relatively thoughtful guy. I never really understood the Clooney love until I saw that movie. I’m realizing that came out when I was 10. Pretty sure I watched it when I wasn’t much older than that, at all, because it’s one of dad’s favorites. Maybe 7th grade at the latest. It’s one of those movies that I can re-watch and re-watch. But at the time, everyone and their moms loved him.

And then with Monuments Men, I fell in love with that Clooney again. And Damon – I’ve somehow developed a giant crush on Matt Damon.

I keep meaning to watch the Descendants, mia girl. I just keep forgetting to do so.

    • reba says:

His lip synching in OBWAT is awesome! I also liked him in Burn After Reading – but that whole cast was amazing. (I’m Linda… Linda Litzky!)

  6. Lindsey G says:

Well at least George Clooney KNOWS TMM was terrible.

  7. LAK says:

I loved the original SCHOOL DAZE. Sigh. Even if it is Spike re-making it, I wish they’d leave it alone.

On a different note, my parents drilled it into me NEVER to put anything in writing that I couldn’t defend in person because it would always be used against you no matter intent, so I am seriously judging these people in putting these remarks in writing.

And surely the black person who Amy should be apologising to is Obama. Why go to Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?! Jesse Jackson who publicly said Obama wasn’t the right sort of black during the presidential elections!!!

Jeesh Amy, be smarter than this. Then again, those emails……..

    • Christin says:

I was raised the same way. Plus, my employer reserves the right to monitor our e-mails, plus they hire a consulting firm that basically tries to hack our passwords and systems.

There are so many fails with this Sony debacle, both from a corporate and individual responsibility level.

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@LAK, who wrote: “I loved the original SCHOOL DAZE. Sigh. Even if it is Spike re-making it, I wish they’d leave it alone.”

I thought the ‘School Daze update’ meant a sequel. An updated sequel would be interesting, but I agree you that if it’s merely a re-make they should leave it alone already. The original was awesome.

  8. Sara says:

lol i am sure George wrote that line to every studio boss and now they all know.

also i love how Spielberg who certainly will go down in history as one of the biggest directors of all time is avoided by everyone for his begging.

    • LAK says:

In an earlier era, before email, when tell alls were the thing, a producer, sadly RIP, wrote a book called ‘you’ll never eat lunch in this town again!’ all about the raging egos in Hollywood. This would be during 60s, 70s and 80s. She says repeatedly what a raging egomaniac and A**hole Spielberg is.

  9. COSquared says:

    McWee

  10. mia girl says:

I’m rather impressed by Clooney’s email.
We know what big egos these HW types have so to admit he blew it must be especially difficult.

Oh George, just when I’d given up on you.

    • esthetix says:

Yea i agree, it made me like Clooney more…almost enough to forgive him for the whole wedding extravaganza.

  11. Jayna says:

    George is a class act.

    • Decorative Item says:

To me he sounded like he is just fragile and needy.

    • OriginalTessa says:

His e-mail makes him seem so human, and so invested in his work. No doubt that’s why he’s been so successful; he cares.

    • siri says:

Not in MY book. These mails sound like he’s sucking up to the bosses like a whiny wimp. ‘Haven’t slept in 30 hours…’- everybody knows he has sleeping troubles for years. He just simply overestimates his abilities, and shouldn’t co-write anymore. He took a true story, and made a fairytale of it, lame jokes included. It’s not enough to call in some famous actor-friends, and play around. Plus, his plea for protection from the bad reviews – what do you think he’s asking for here?

    • Isabelle says:

A few years ago I worked for a volunteer organization & Clooney was very involved in the organization. Had the privilege of briefly meeting him (very nice & affable) but know people that actually worked with Clooney in volunteer world for longer stints. They say he is one of most humble celebs they have worked with & never have heard a bad word about him. Now there are a few others, where that isn’t the case.

  12. Mia4S says:

Yeah the studio was exploring options to force Bill Murray into the movie. They actually were seeing if they could sue him. Gross.

I love that they’ll kiss DiCaprio’s butt when he’s in the project but in truth they can’t stand him. It’s hilarious and so cliche. Hollywood is just brilliantly phony!

  13. Toot says:

I didn’t think George’s email was sweet. What did George mean by needing protection from the reviews? Were they going to get someone to rave about it? What was Amy going to do to make it a hit? Fudge some numbers, what?

    • bns says:

Probably fake reviews, fake Oscar buzz, etc.

      • suziekew says:

Exactly. I think of all the emails this from Clooney was the most embarrassing.

      • lrm says:

I also thought he was being kind of facetious or tongue in cheek with that email. Somewhat sarcastic, too. Protection from the negatives kind of dramatically but joking/serious, you know? I joke like that too sometimes….And, as far as Amy being the only studio head who truly loves film, I completely thought he was being sarcastic [but that she would take it as a compliment or not be sure what he meant] b/c she was ‘focused on the bottom line’-the money. I find GC to be always sarcastic and passive aggressive in his communications. But I think I’m the only one who interpresed this email to pascal to be that way, so maybe he really was groveling and/or needy.

    • noway says:

Yes that part I didn’t get either, and love how it is just glazed over because he apologized and is George Clooney. DiCaprio really didn’t do anything, but pull out of a mess of a movie and he is raked through the coals. Why would he need protection from reviews? Just so he could make another bad movie. How about make a good movie inexpensively instead next time.

Hollywood accounting is weird, and I guess you make it a hit by more marketing. It is safe to say the movie lost money not the 10 mill they are claiming. They probably spent that in ancillary not on the books marketing to get people to the movie. I am a bit surprised he is that thin skinned being in Hollywood for so long. Maybe this explains his new not so private celebrity personal life. It is hard to leave the limelight.

    • bammer says:

Yeah I was creeped out by the “needing protection” plea. Paid for reviews. Bribes. Influencing their contacts in the press to write something positive about him. He’s all ego.

      • Decorative Item says:

        100% agree with this!

      • Kiddo says:

        Ah, different perspective.

      • Toot says:

        @bammer

Exactly! All people seem to see is him “apologizing” to Amy at the end, but not the shadiness of the whole email.

      • Tulip says:

It’s shady, but maybe(?) standard practice for a lot of movies. In which case he’s still shady with an ego, but no more than everyone else who pulls this stunt (and how many good movies are there right now, anyways?)

It’s kind of sweet that anyone still wants to make movies if it takes this much hustle to just get one made.

    • 2manycookies says:

It’s just George grovelling to get what he wants. He didn’t get all those girls without a twisted sweet side. I know – I’m terribly cynical.

Have you heard …George’s PR team has gotten Barbara Walters to make Amal her Most Fascinating Person Of The Year …. for what, marrying a movie star!!

    • SuePerb says:

I came here to ask the same question, what did that mean? I took it as asking Amy to block or pay for or make up 5* reviews to cancel all the rubbishy reviews or hire crowds of people to go into theatres every day to boost numbers and give standing ovations. It sounded like a begging email to me. Needy child with bottom lip protruding and severe deflated ego kicks sand and requires help.

      • Christin says:

That’s my interpretation as well. Woe is me, kissing up and ultimately, help ME look better.

    • lunchcoma says:

I didn’t interpret it as being as sinister as some people here did. I got the feeling that George was asking them not to throw him under the bus and paint the picture’s failure as being solely due to director hubris. The film had already been received poorly by the time he wrote those emails, so planting reviews wouldn’t have helped anything.

  14. Jayna says:

I know I should stop reading all of this because of who hacked into an important movie studio’s email system and is publishing information. Ultimately, it gives them power for me to read it, and I hate that I am.

    • nora says:

I do not know if you feel the same as me , but I feel that for now only small gossip out but what a moment a very big thing will come out . I would like to point out anyway I find that piracy data is horrible and yet the bad part of me read anything out …..

  15. The Original G says:

~Nothing beats Scott Rudin’s hissy fit about Angelina Jolie, obviously? ~

Not so obvious. Looks like the denizens of Sony are equal opportunity complainers and denigrators of talent. Seems that Angelina was hardly singled out as special. I read that there is much more to come.

BTW, what’s the obsession for another Steve Jobs movie?

    • Kim1 says:

I like the fact that months after his hissyfit he is still talking to her about directors. So he has to suck it up and still work with her. Also there is an email about Francis Ford Coppola and Cleopatra.

  16. Talie says:

George really came out well in all of this, didn’t he? Very self-aware.

    • Kiddo says:

He seems like an okay guy.

ETA: Leo as Jobs is awful casting. He was smart to turn it down.

    • Toot says:

Not to me. He’s asking Amy to somehow protect him from the negative reviews, by doing what exactly? Makes me go hmmmm.

    • esthetix says:

The whole time I was reading Clooney’s email I was thinking, “I wish another George was this self aware when making their movie.” Maybe then Star Wars wouldn’t have been so much of a mess. But instead it seemed like he just doubled down.

  17. DenG says:

George Clooney needs protection from reviews, asks to make it a hit, says he’s lost touch and let you down? Please let us keep looking behind the curtain and see by their own words what our film gods are really thinking.

    • noway says:

I know people see George’s apology and nothing else, and I was a big George fan but his new celebrity persona and some of the last few movies have me scratching my head. I am floating this out there, as I have never understood Mr. my private life is private and I will never marry again’s new leaf, this may be one of the explanations for his crazy over the top wedding. Bad reviews think your career is down the tanker so much you are not sleeping for 30 hours.

First you ask Sony exec. to protect you. Which they did as Sony is publishing it made 10 million on their books which are probably a bit Hollywood cooked. Then change the conversation by getting engaged a few months later with an extravagant celebrity wedding in the fall. If this email was never released like it shouldn’t have been no one would even have been talking about his not so hot movie, only his marriage and wedding. Go at it gossip land. People have gotten married for far less.

      • LIVEALOT says:

        precisely. busted!

      • Jessica says:

You think he got married because one of his films got average reviews and just about broke even at the box office? It’s not like this was a disaster for him. The reviews weren’t awful, just pretty ‘meh’ about the whole thing, and it’s not like it only made 35mil on a 70mil budget, it did ok for what it was. It may have hurt his ego a bit but it didn’t hurt his career.

Leatherheads did worse at a time when he was still establishing himself as a director, you’d think he would have played the marriage card back then if that was something he was willing to do.

      • noway says:

Honestly, I don’t know the whole thing seems odd to me. I just think it is possible he sees his movie career heading a bit south in his mind, and why he couldn’t shake it off is beyond me. Why ask for protection from this seems weird. It was his baby he wrote, acted a big part, got a bunch of his friends and top actors in it and produced it sorry it is his failure. Own it like he did with Batman and Robin which wasn’t his entire fault that script stunk and he didn’t write it. I don’t understand why he would be so worried about being thrown under a bus for its mediocrity it wasn’t that bad.

Just an idea maybe he wanted to get married and the very public extravaganza was the PR. or the whole thing who knows. Even if it wasn’t it seemed to work until these emails came out. Amal is Barbara Walters most fascinating of 2014. That is all anyone was saying about George all year pretty much after the announcement.

      • Christin says:

If you consider the lackluster results in his career of late, added to the speculation and jokes about his personal life (post-Stacy and other two-year romances) — it seems plausible.

  18. Alexis says:

Wow I guess I read the George e-mail wrong. I translated it as George only caring about the reviews instead of the art and Amy Pascal reassuring that it’s all about the money. They both don’t seem like film lovers at all….IMO of course

    • Esmom says:

I know, the “film lover” thing really had me rolling my eyes. I thought George’s groveling was kinda gross.

    • siri says:

You didn’t read it wrong. He’s sucking up to the bosses, plain and simple. He knew after the first reviews that he f…..d up MM. So he’s apologizing like a child to a mother, it’s not gonna happen again. What a whiny wimp. Only concerned about his image. Asking for ‘protection’- what exactly does THAT mean?

  19. scout says:

“Whore Kevin Hart” has more dignity and intelligence of all of them put together, he is the bigger person of them all!
GC’s “I need some protection from all the reviews. Let’s just make it a hit.” How pathetic! He is all about lot of noise and no substance as usual, pseudo intellectual with lot of “self awareness” for sure. Cunning silver Fox!

  20. Sam says:

And to think, this is all happening because James Franco and Seth Rogen made a really stupid movie….

  21. Christin says:

The group allegedly releasing these e-mails is promising something more interesting closer to Christmas. What else could these corporate dingbats and major ‘talents’ have said? Will it be the PR script for the Amalooney project (prior to the leading lady being cast)?

    • noway says:

I am really starting to think the Amalooney spectacular was a show to keep everyone from thinking about some of his less than stellar career choices to date. To us it doesn’t seem like such a big deal a bad movie, but obviously not to him who hasn’t slept in 30 hours because of bad reviews.

      • Christin says:

It has always seemed an odd and sudden choice for such a confirmed bachelor. I just cannot imagine what the bigger surprise could be, unless it is some big reveal about an A-lister.

These execs wrote some stupid, insensitive things, but a juicy reveal about a top tier actor or actress could garner much more public attention.

    • Tulip says:

Oh, wow, I hope not. If they’re going to be destructive and dishing dirt, I hope they reveal some of the predators in Hollywood that are truly sick monsters, but no one can legally get rid of.

    • siri says:

We were all speculating on other threads why Clooney did get married that fast, and with so much publicity…here the reason might be. God knows what else those studio bosses discussed among themselfs, or even with the actors via emails, but it looks like there’s gonna be some big time revelations. Bryan Singer comes to mind…let’s just hope some of these disclosures will be fruitful in the long run.

    • I hate myself for being ‘excited’, but I am. And it’s so close to my birthday!

      • Christin says:

@VC – Let’s just say this gift is for your birthday! It may all be a big letdown, but I have a feeling the bigwigs are sweating. Sorkin is blasting the media for covering the leaked e-mails, but he might as well face the music.

  22. **sighs** says:

    How is Aaron Sorkin broke?

    • Kiddo says:

‘Broke’ relative to rich people’s standards.

    • noway says:

I know a few people who went to college with him, and have heard the same thing. He apparently has had a drug problem before, and still is a bit of a live outside your means kind of guy.

      • Bridget says:

Sorkin has a huge substance abuse problem (he even left The West Wing midway through because of it, if I’m remembering correctly). It wouldn’t actually surprise me if he’s broke.

  23. ScrewStewrat99 says:

I’m curious about the emails between Angelina and Rudin. What was her response to Rudin saying “‘May be difficult’?!?! Like Hitler ‘may be anti-Semitic’!!!”. Did she respond with some horrible banter? Berate him? Ignore the comment? I’d love to know.

    • esthetix says:

I know!! How do you respond to that!?! How does anyone respond to that!?! I must know!

    • Toot says:

If she responded with something horrible or otherwise it probably would have been released. She probably ignored that comment.

      • ScrewStewrat99 says:

@esthetix – That’s what I was thinking! He went to total extremes. I’d love to know what she thought after reading that. I’d probably stare at that line for 10 minutes before giving up on figuring out a response lol

@Toot – You’re probably right. It would have been published if she said anything bad or out of line. I guess I’m just shocked he would say something like that to her.

  24. Amy says:

From what little I’ve seen of the emails Channing Tatum sounds adorable, exhausting, and sweet. Halfway through his I remember thinking “Aww” then “Are you freaking kidding me?” annoyance and finally just shaking my head in amusement towards the end. Anyone who’s seen it knows exactly what I’m talking about.

I also had a “Bitch said what?!” moment when I sW they’d commented on Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder. The tone of these emails reveals a lot and explains that awful fourth season.

    • Ooh, give me the dirt on Aaron McGruder. I know he wasn’t on it, and the fourth season was awful compared to the rest. It was decent, and I probably would’ve loved it if it had been the first season, but it seemed so out of place with the other seasons.

These emails are amazing gossip stories but honestly I’m most excited about this Ghostbusters movie 😀

  26. Tiffany says:

    To the Guardians of Peace:

Thank you for this wonderful holiday gift. This really just keeps on giving.

    Happy Holidays,
    Tiffany

Oops, this is in the wrong place.

  28. lunchcoma says:

Sounds like this was Clooney’s “one for them” and it turned out that it wasn’t either artistically or financially fulfilling for either party. His diagnosis that he was out of touch sounds right – Monuments Men was bad in part because it felt so dated.

  29. Isabelle says:

The Smith kids: still laughing about that one a bit. Seriously, feel bad for these kids they had no chance of normality because of their upbringing. Shaking a finger at Will & Jada.

  30. word says:

Well now we all just got a really good look into the inner workings of Hollywood. It is really a gross and extremely fake place.

  31. Amy says:

Not sure on Ghostbuusters but i’m definetly down for a movie with Jennifer, Emma and Ryan!

  32. Marianne says:

These emails are really juicy, but I also think could really potentially effect the company. How many stars that they dissed will be so open about wanting to work with them again in the future.

But at least we will get several jokes out of it over awards season.

  33. Dee Kay says:

Monuments Men was truly terrible and only due to the script and directing. The actors gave it their all esp Blanchett. I also thought Clooney’s Good Night and Good Luck was incredibly boring. Clooney is a very good actor and a bad director. I don’t think any actor has turned into a great director except Eastwood. I don’t like Ron Howard’s movies except for Splash or Affleck’s movies except for Gone Baby Gone. I hope Jolie proves she has what it takes in the director’s chair. Most actors just don’t.

I thought Eastwood’s Jersey Boys was bad, but generally I like him. Now I like Howard and Affleck’s Argo. If George had done Argo it would have had far more campy jokes. I also liked Clooney’s Good Night and Good Luck, and Ides of March was good but everything else to me not so much. Still to each his own. I also like Redford’s Ordinary People and a River Runs Through It with a cute young Brad Pitt and a very young Joseph Gordon Levitt.

      • Dee Kay says:

You’re right about Redford’s Ordinary People and A River Runs through It. I also give credit to Mel Gibson for Apocalypto and to Kevin Costner for Dances with Wolves (despite the over-romanticized view of the indigenous peoples). Maybe it’s not that actors *can’t* direct, it’s that most of them only strike gold once, or maximum twice, in their directing careers. Again, Eastwood is the exception: Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jim, Gran Torino are all masterpieces imo, and Mystic River and Flags of Our Fathers are not brilliant but very very solid pictures.

  34. Frodo lives says:

Oh wow, the ghostbusters cast looks very white. They couldn’t add two women of color for once. How about Retta and Yvette. I also wished they would have related it back to the original cast by casting ppl who could play their kids or grandchildren.

    • Marianne says:

I would have loved Mindy Kaling to be a part of it.

    • Korra says:

Maya Rudolph anyone? I thought she was a fairly obvious choice considering no one could stop throwing out Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, but I guess not. My dream cast is Maya Rudolph, Melissa Mccarthy, Sandra Bullock, and I guess Kristen Wiig but I’m really iffy on that choice. I’m kinda digging Marianne’s choice of Mindy Kaling in a role where she doesn’t look like a kindergarten school teacher!

But I guess they’re trying to skew younger with Jlaw, Stone, and Gosling. Yuck so tired of it. The original ghostbusters the guys were all in their early to late thirties.
