Perhaps most girls who were born around a certain time feel the same collective warmth whenever John Cusack’s name is mentioned. There’s something about the combination of intellect, jet black hair, Say Anything, Grosse Point Blank, a penchant for privacy, family love, radical politics and that tall, lanky body that all girls secretly swoon for. Or is it just me?
I find it surprising whenever John Cusack’s love life gets press. He plays all of the personal stuff very close to the vest, and has never said one word about most of the famous women he’s rumored to have romanced over the years. Among his rumored conquests are Neve Campbell, Lili Taylor, Claire Forlani, Minnie Driver, Allison Eastwood (daughter of Clint) and Hillary Duff, though I don’t believe that last one.
I had no idea he was dating actress Jodi Lyn O’Keefe, and now Star is reporting that the two have broken up over a disagreement whether to marry. O’Keefe is on “Prison Break”, and judging solely from her pictures, she’s very pretty. But come on, who is she? Does this girl really think she’s going to be the one to get Cusack down the aisle? Get real, “Jodi Lyn” if that is your real name (just checked Wikipedia, it is her birth name)… John Cusack is waiting for me! Star Magazine has more:
A girl can’t wait around forever!
With John Cusack — her on-again, off-again beau since 2003 — dragging his feet about proposing, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe finally decided to call it quits for good.
“She desperately wanted to spend the rest of her life with John,” says an insider. “But he’s never felt the need to get married. She hoped for years he’d change his mind, but she’s done wasting her energy.”
The Prison Break babe gave John one last chance — in early January, the two took a Florida beach vacation to try and work things out. But a witness tells Star that after they returned to L.A., “they were really cold to each other, bickering a lot.”
Jodi ended it soon after, and since the split, adds the insider, “she’s been dating and trying to have fun. Anything to get over John!”

I too have felt overwhelming ambivalence about marriage, too, John! Pick me! But let’s play a game. Let’s say you’re a pretty actress who got some luck on a hit television show called Prison Break. Let’s say you meet eternal heartthrob Lloyd Dobler… oops, I mean John Cusack. Let’s say John asks you out, you date, start living together, and the whole time you know that John Cusack simply doesn’t want to get married because he’s not that guy. Would you stay or would you go? I would stay. And I don’t understand a woman who wouldn’t. But, hey, at least John Cusack is single again!
Jodi Lyn O’Keefe is shown on 2/22/09, 9/21/08 and 9/8/08. John Cusack is shown on 9/13/08. Credit: PRPhotos
Ahh, and I thought we was waiting for me! Maybe we can start our own John Cusack time share!
snore
i always feel like when a director needs a neurotic loser character, they give cusack a call. nebbish doesnt do it for me.
She used to play on Nash Bridges! And She’s All That… haha. I never, ever, would have put those two together.
I, too, loved Lloyd Dobler, but let’s be honest he seems to be much closer to his character in High Fidelity – who, while a commitment phobe, eventaully saw the light. Not sure Cusack ever will, he just seems like a diehard bachelor at this phase and not the true romantic many of his fans wish he was.
I agree, Mrs. Darcy – Cusack is probably a lot closer to his High Fidelity character.
I’ve always been meh on Say Anything and Lloyd Dobler. Sweet, dull movie featuring a nice guy who isn’t terribly interesting. Now, Gib from The Sure Thing? Funny, smart, snarky guy–much more appealing.
Cusack? No idea. If I were single, and somehow wound up in a relationship with him, I wouldn’t count on much. I like that he doesn’t talk about his love life, but he does seem like a commitment-phobe.
I haven’t seen him in much to be honest, but I loved his performance in The Grifters. All three of them (Cusack, Huston and Bening) were phenomenal together.
I adore his High Fidelity character.
Also, I think I’m the only lamer that is sad for couples that split up, even if one of them is attractive. And happy when stupid couples like Barker/Moakler get remarried. I’m a happy child deep down.
I’m one of those girls who fell in love with Lloyd in high school and I’ve loved him ever since – esp in Grosse Point Blank and High Fidelity (I’ll even forgive him for Con Air). I love his sister too! But I’m always seeing references to the fact that he might be a jerk when it comes to women – but I’d hate to hear that was true.
My best friend said she doesn’t ever plan on actually getting married, unless it was to John Cusack. Damn, looks like I’ll never get to be the bridesmaid at that wedding! But yes, the good news is that he’s single now!
I remember pictures of Cusack and Duff together when they promoted War Inc. Duff came with her sister and never really let go of her arm, and her body language around Cusack was as if she was in retreat against someone coming (very) forward.
So he probably hit on her but didn’t actually succeed. I can see where the rumour comes from but I don’t tend to believe it – unless Duff was really drunk one time.
Jodi Lyn played Don Johnson’s daughter on Nash Bridges, which is where I saw her. She’s apparently done guest-starring roles in several other TV shows.
how do you go from wanting to spend the rest of your life w/ someone to leaving them over a white dress?
Gosh thanks for that Raven, I remember she had really striking eyes, although she was blonde back then. Didn’t she go out with Don Johnston back then?
Anyway – he’s rich, he’s handsome and get’s plenty of good-looking women who’ll keep him company for a while. That’s what he wants, and unless you’re the right woman, that’s what he’ll continue to seek. It’s unlikely he’ll ever intentionally have kids or marry; but stranger things have happened.
I loved him and CZJ in America’s sweethearts; I see that as being closest to him in a charming mood. With High Fidelity, it was pretty faithful to the book, and if Nick Hornby does one thing, it’s write “real blokes”.
oops-*gets
I didn’t mean to use “back then” so often either
When I was single I used to tell my girlfriends that I wanted to marry a Lloyd Dobbler. I had been dating this guy for a week or so, when we were out walking around, he spied some glass on the sidewalk and steered me around it. I freaked out. Screaming in the street with joy, freaked out. He was confused. The next day I told my co-worker, she started jumping up and down with excitement for me. I married him of course. 10 years and 2 kids later, I’m still happy happy with him. My point is, don’t confuse John Cusack with Lloyd Dobbler; I don’t think John is a great catch. But don’t pass up the Lloyds of this world.
Lem, usually it boils down to: he didn’t want to marry *her*, not that he didn’t want to marry.
And that goes for anyone else he didn’t want to marry too, not just her personally.
When a man genuinely wants to marry a woman, he does (you know, providing she wants to too).
It’s like when guys leave a woman who wanted children because they didn’t and the next woman they get involved with they have children with. Go figure.
I so agree with the comment that it just wasn’t her he wanted to marry…. I have known men that no one ever thought would get married.. But then they met the one.. And even the ones who said they would never get married were getting down on one knee..when they found her. If the ultimatum of breaking up didn’t scare him into thinking how he couldn’t imagine living without her…then she just wasn’t the one… He can live without her..
Ooh and i must say that i adore John Cusack. Always have.
Aw, what a sweet story Wif!
hm, I think there must be more to it than “he hasn’t met the right girl”, the guy is in his what mid forties, has dated half of Hollywood(maybe the problem, he just needs a nice normal girl like me…oh wait I’m married lol!)
I don’t know, I can’t help but think he’s just not the marrying kind. Maybe he’ll get to Warren Beatty’s age when he decided to settle down. Or maybe he’ll be like Jack Nicholson! I think I only really care because he is such a likeable actor and pulls off the puppydog in love thing so well it’s hard not to think some part of that must be real.
Okay, I totally said that wrong the first time. I can’t say that I subscribe to the right girl = marriage idea. I just subscribe to the idea that when a guy’s interested in marriage – for whatever reasons – he’ll get married.
And he didn’t want to marry Jodi or any of the other women he didn’t marry. Could be he didn’t want to marry them or he just didn’t want to marry period. Could be he needs a break to figure out that he really wants to be married. Who knows?
Even if he met the right girl, he won’t marry her until he *wants* to get married.
I’ve never seen the film Cusack starred in that makes all the women swoon, so while I can see some of his charm I never get why people want him to be the guy they marry. He always seems too, for want of a better word, ‘posed’. It doesn’t fit the image he’s honed for himself over the years, or at least that’s how he comes across.
When he gets tired or bored enough he probably will though – just out of curiosity to see what the fuss is about.
The older men get the less likely he wants to marry, they get used to getting any women they want, so why marry?
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
ahem
Gee. What a shame.
YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
Cusak’s a DOLL! She looks too high maintenance for him.
I have nothing more to say than- Love him :-).
Great to have a story about him- thanks Kaiser!
It must be me because I just don’t get the fascination with him. I liked his character in High Fidelity, but to look at him as a sex symbol… no way. All I can visualize is him taking off his shirt to treat us to a pasty white, concave chest with patchy hair on his chest. Blech…
Now having said that, I had a friend in college who was also ga ga for the guy. Oddly enough, it took me years to figure out who she was talking about because he was so bland and I never paid attention to him. Even more odd… she has never married either…. Hmm…. maybe SHE’S waiting for him too…
All his movies to me are John Cusack playing John Cusack in What Would John Cusack Do, in any given situation. I liked High Fidelity and most of his 80’s work, but I can never forget that it’s John Cusack. Plus, I’ve never seen the physical appeal. He’s always making that face.
Leave Jodi Lyn O’Keefe alone men. With your rumors nonsens, you don’t even know if this story is true. I love Jodi Lyn O’keefe, she gives me a smile on my face with her great acting and I think she is the sweetest woman on earth, she is an great actress. You people talking nonsens about her, and that’s make me mad. I judge nobody. Leave their private lifes alone, you are not the one who decides about their lifes. You have no rights to talk about jodi or John that way. This is one of the reasons that I don’t have a forum on Jodi Lyn O’keefe her Original Fansite, because I don’t want this rumors at it. Never ever I talk about Jodi like the way here is written and I don’t place stories like this. I respect this woman and I respect John, because I have movies from him too.
Leave Jodi her private life alone and don’t judge about her, because you don’t even know the hole story. Jodi don’t deserves this. She is a wonderfull woman. What Jodi is doing in her private life is up to her and not up to you. Understand! Leave this woman alone. Are you better sleep if you know this? What would you do if all your relationship will be publicist even if it a lie? yeah you don’t like it. So stop this rumors and be busy with your own private life.

Having just watched yet another movie where John is so yummy, I was a silly female and did a google search about his love-life. I was bummed to read of his womanizing and bad behavior – allegedly he got Jodi pregnant and made her get rid of the baby. Also rumors that he DID marry her with the agreement he could still sleep with other women if he kept her in a nice house and car. I don’t want to seem mean, but I thought I should mention what I just read about him. (Understanding that it could be distorted or untrue – but really, search for yourself and see all the descriptions of his behavior.)
I would not start living with a guy unless we were married first. I would not take a guy that seriously if he did not want to marry me and I knew it. Why would you ever get that involved with someone who doesn’t want to marry you in the first place.
I would not live with a guy that you know does not want to marry you. Why waste your time.
You know you have to have a lot, I mean a ton, of respect for yourself before you earn the respect of others. if you’re gonna act like a doormat, people will probably treat you like one.
jodi lyn o’keefe is stunning. she deserves way better than him and im glad they have split up. i think people should stop writing bad about her untill you’ve walked in her path then you can talk
black identity ..i totally agree with everything you said…jodi lyn o’keefe is amazing and nobody has any right in talking about her.
and i totaly love her fansite you made im on it everyday =]
jodi is my absolute hero!
You are all pathetic. He isn’t Loyd! He’s the man John Cusack who is a jerk! Damn all of you fools, he just lost his woman she what she thought was her man and all you can do is crack jokes and defend his ass.

The man is a pig. Swine flu is because of him. Yummy? He isn’t attractive! He looks weird and not cute. His status has his head all screwed up… how can you like someone who would be like this? I woulds never stop laughing at the day his dkk stops working bet he’d wish he’d done right by her then.
To think about it… your John might be gay. Think about it
1. Became a total Womanizer.
2.Never settling down for long… just long enough to fight the feeling, when the urge came back he breaks it off and back to womanizing. Thinking he has a problem or just not wanting to be gay he feels he’ll find that “woman” that can be his man as well… hasn’t found her because of his picky expectations.
3. Was raised in Catholicism.
4. Had a main squeeze “Jodi” who he kept in waiting because of issues he didn’t share with her. He can see that she is very lovely in appearance, who wouldn’t want her and he has her but doesn’t feel it. Why get married and maybe have children just to one day leave them when he decided to be true to himself. He knows he can’t fight for too long.
5. Everything he does shows a man who’s suppressing something, no wonder he is so grumpy and moody… he isn’t happy! And he’s afraid. If there is a woman who can satisfy all his needs effing the whole globe wont find her or suppress what he is.
É isso aí John não casa não é tão bom ficar solteiro!!!! Qualquer coisa estamos aí para dar aquele ombro amigo!!!!!
John is in the house? You see that everyone here had spoken English that you can also understand but yet you are to afraid to say what it is you have to say so we can understand you? You’re a weak bch.
How do you know this is the reason he doesn’t marry? You are wrong keli!
I would certainly hang out with John Cusack indefinitely, if given the chance. What could be better than that? Who needs to be married, anyway? It is not the panacea for relationships – most of the people I know who are married are unhappy.
I think marriage is over-rated. John is doing what suits him..Look at Warren Beaty…and Geroge Clooney. It is tough to fall for one of these guys…well Annette B. did and won…but watch it …hearts will easily break. Its a risk worth it. I say…it ended..it was good while it lasted…we wanted different things…over.:)
Arghhhh this pisses me off. IF they woman that were talking about this were standing in front of me i would slap them good looking. Jodi is an amazing person and they’re just jealous, they have no right to talk about her that way. And what the hell does (“””But come on, who is she? Does this girl really think she’s going to be the one to get Cusack down the aisle? Get real,”””) mean? She’s better than any of they woman. And she didn’t get a role on prison break by luck. There were thousands of people auditioning for her role and she got it because she’s a fantastic actress. GET A FUCKING GRIP BITCHES JODI’S PERFECT AND YOUR JUST JEALOUS.
I just saw the 2012 premiere in LA and Jodi Lyn went to the premiere, she was wearing a pink dress. Does this means that she and John are back together??? what you guys think?
i think they are together because you never see or hear about either one of them being with someone else. dont you think they would have someone new by now or at least go on a date with someone or something. i personally wouldnt go to an old boyfriends deal. would you. here when we split we dont hang out after that. its over ya know.we dont see speak or wave its done.
if he didnt want to marry me. He would never see me again. It would be like I vanished from the face of the earth. And he would have a really hard time trying to find me. I sure as hell would not show up anywhere he is at. especially not at his own dam show. would you? that’s how we do things here I dont know maybe there they do things different
I believe john cusack has dated several women in his life he is part of the brat pack along with george clooney and brad pitt. They are all rich successful men. Relationships to them are for entertainment only with no lasting commitment. Rich famous people do not mingle outside of the entertainment business they date with in their own kind (circle). Dont take me wrong john cusack is cute but he’d never date a commoner like me. As far as relationships go kurt russell and goldie hawn’s is my way, just being together and enjoying life without no pressure or a piece of paper. Your together simply because you want to be.
Once yu go Cusack
Yu never go back ;D
Nuff’ said 🙂
you never know what’s there story these are all rumors and if there true wow.. im a huge cusack fan and i know how he is with his fan’s so im not in love with him anymore i know he does all that jerk stuff to portably let people know he is not romantic and he is not gay and if he was then man go for it i wouldn’t care really. what ever he is happy with
I completely agree with the poster who preferred Gib in “The Sure Thing” over Lloyd in “Say Anything.” John was at his romantic finest as the former; more believable relationship and chemistry with he leading lady too.
I think he is gay!!!
I think he is gay!!
god, so what if he doesn’t want to get married ?
is this really necessarily ?
if you love someone, i think you don’t have to label your relationship like ‘engaged’ or ‘married’… you purely love being with him, spend time with him… live with him… and you don’t care that some people may say ‘yeah but they aren’t married’ or ‘he didn’t even gave her an engagement ring!!!’
marriage is something superficial.
Thank you, I have just been looking for information about this subject for a long time and yours is the best I have found out till now. But, what in regards to the conclusion? Are you certain about the supply?
WELL HE DOESNT NEED TO GET MARRIED IF HE DOESNT WANT TO.,,THATS HIS CHOICE…HELL I WOULDNT MIND SPENDING A WEEKEND WITH HIM..HE SEEMS DOWN TO EARTH…I LIKE THE FACT HIS BIRTDAY IS THE DAY AFTER MINE,,
I don’t know or really care about his wanting to be married. Or for that matter, his desire to remain single. I do however, think he has OUTSTANDING taste in music!
