I can’t tell you how happy this video made me. I went into it expecting to be mildly amused but instead I found it incredibly heart warming. Betty White was being driven to the set of her TV Land show, Hot in Cleveland, in a golf cart. It was Friday, the day before her 93rd birthday. She explained this to the cart driver (update: thanks to everyone who pointed out that the driver is Dave Foley of Hot in Cleveland), who said that he thought there “might be a little bit of a celebration for your birthday.” As they turned the corner Hawaiian music started playing and a woman came out doing a hula dance. Then the whole road filled up with people in grass skirts and leis doing a coordinated dance to music. There were multiple dance numbers and several groups with performers interspersed with the cast and crew. They must have spent a lot of time planning it. Betty’s delight was the best part and you could see how thrilled and touched she was. At the end her Hot in Cleveland costars, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, come out and do their own little dance and then come over to hug her.
If you can’t watch the video because you’re at work maybe you could watch it without the sound on and then catch it again when you go home. Or watch it on your lunch break! There’s no reason to wait. I’ve seen it several times now. At the end of the video, Betty cracks “At 93 you shouldn’t be doing this.”
Did you know that Betty White is in the Guinness Book of World Records for “Longest TV Career for an Entertainer”? (That happened a couple of years ago but I just saw it again on reddit.) At this point, she’s been on TV for 75 years.
Betty credits her longevity to the fact that she has “a two-story house and a bad memory, so I’m up and down those stairs all the time.” She also professes to eating french fries every day and lists hot dogs, Red Vine licorice and potato chips among her favorite foods.

Fantastic! She’s a great antidote to my own mother, who is the same age but narcissistic, cranky, critical, depressed, immobile, and bored, just waiting to die. Betty must put a lot of love out into the world to get this much back! And she is genuinely thrilled. How sweet!

A few years ago TMZ did a little segment on her. There was some forgotten about startlet that was being a a hole on camera and then they followed up with Betty. She was going to dinner and there were a couple people who wanted autographs and she complied and answered a couple of the paps questions. That is when I thought that this woman is going to go places and be around a long time ;).
So nice to see a post that’s uniformly pleasant and positive! Love Betty White, who also works for animals. Note that she is just happy to see all these people dancing and loving her, and not wishing for some showy gifts.

Quite simply, this lady is the most wonderful person. Let me just say, Happy Birthday, Betty! I used to watch that show with my mom and grandmother, and when I ammissing them both, I still watch it late at night. She is the best.

Betty was on a Carol Burnett Show episode the other evening, and she was passively aggressively hilarious as Mama’s favored daughter. She plays ensemble so well and seems humble.
For Betty at her absolute best there is nothing better than watching her as Sue Ann Nivens on the old Mary Tyler Moore show. She did the sugary bitch to perfection and was hilarious.
I will have to DVR the MTM episodes, especially since she was in almost every episode. She can play a sugary snarker to perfection!
I’m not ashamed to admit this made me cry! What a delightful, lovely woman Betty is. She must be a blessing to so many for them to put this much effort into celebrating her. Love it!
Just an FYI, the “cart driver” is Dave Foley. He has appeared on episodes of Hot in Cleveland as a private detective and was on a sitcom with Phil Hartman back in the day called News Radio, which ran from ’95 to ’98.

I got nothin’ that everyone else hasn’t said. She deserves all the love she has and then some.
I read the brief article where Betty talks about her favorite foods, etc. The last paragraph of that article quotes her as (seriously) saying she has no spare time, which forces her to stay active.
There is something to be said for staying occupied, no doubt. There is less time to needlessly worry, become sedentary in body and mind, etc.
