I genuinely enjoyed the first Magic Mike film, and I was surprised to see that there was some “real acting” happening in between dance sequences. I still kind of think that Matthew McConaughey was – no judgment – robbed of an Oscar nomination for his performance. And Channing “Charming Potato” Tatum was charming and damaged and a wonderful dancer, as always. My biggest complaints about the film were A) it needed MOAR Matt Bomer and B) the apathetic nepotism-hire playing Channing/Magic Mike’s love interest.
The film was a success, and Channing loves to dance, so of course we’re getting a sequel. This one is called Magic Mike XXL and the plot involves the same group of guys – minus McConaughey’s Dallas and Alex Pettyfer and adding in a few new dudes – going to a strippers’ convention. Madam Nepotism Hire is gone, thank God, and in her place we have Amber Heard and Elizabeth Banks. YAY! I mean, yay for Banks. I’m sure Amber Heard thought she would be getting different kinds of offers, but she’ll take what she can get. And at the end of the day, I bet she’s not even close to being as bad as Lady Nepotism-Hire. The first trailer for Magic Mike XXL was released yesterday and I can’t help it… I laughed.
It’s amazing? If anything, it looks much better than the first film. It felt like Channing realized that we needed more men, more stripping, more dude action and more fun. Joe Manganiello with his spurting soda? I’m sorry, but THAT IS AWESOME. And I could totally watch Charming Potato dance around his shed for two hours. No joke.
A lot of “critics” would probably say it’s terrible to support a film like Magic Mike XXL, but I will see this without any shame whatsoever. Now, Fifty Shades of Grey? I’m sorry, but I’m not going to see that in the theater. I would be too ashamed to buy a ticket to see that mess. But I will scream from the rooftops: “I AM GOING TO SEE MAGIC MIKE XXL!!”

I didn’t find the first one sexy at all but more funny, even the parts I wasn’t suppose to be laughing at (like when they were dancing and trying to be sexy) were laughable. But it was an alright movie and when this one comes on t.v. I’ll probably watch it.
I remember being so disappointed in the dancing. None of them were sexy, except freaking Charming Potato.
Im hoping Man Jello is better this time around because he has more practice.
I would see this in theatres unlike 50 shades, which is a bad story written by a novice author played by two charisma deficient cardboard cut outs.
I don’t know… I already think He Who Tries Too Hard to Look Sexy looks ridiculous just from that strut across the stage. He’s wearing his Alcide Angry Face.
YEESSSSS!!!!!
I’m impressed he got completely back in shape for this movie cuz he didn’t look like he’d be in as top form as the first one, but he definitely is.
Word on Lady Nepotism but Amber Heard is along the same lines of that from Johnny’s connections and her mediocre acting.
Everyone always forgets Tatum is really an expert in losing weight in a short period of time. He is definitely an inner fatty, who enjoys great food. I love him for that. Very inspirational.
This looks realllly great. I am thrilled to see that they are leaning into the campiness big time. Also, the movie poster is infinitely more interesting than the new SI cover.
Same here with the camp. The first 1/3 of number one was one of the funniest movies of all time. Then it was like wahhhh wahhhhh drugs. I got bored and was hoping Alex would OD and the movie would end.
Well…I’m in!!!
Welll… I wish they were in! Bahahhahahaahhaa (only one at a time I’m not a perv…. like that!!) I’m so excited and have to wait for 6 monthhhhssssssssssssssss!!
*Le Sigh….
There is no movie I would not see of Mr. Charming Potato <3, so I would support this movie as well, you know, to be nice and support his career… #sacrifices
Maybe because I didn’t see the first one.. but it looks cheesy. I don’t think anyone cared if there was an actual story or not.. So they seem to be getting what they want. Cheese, abs, ass and men..
Au Gratin Potato.
I’ll be right there with you
Count me in! I was surprised how much I loved the first Magic Mike – campy and HOT. Even Michael Strahan’s in this one!
And Matthew McConaughey was deliciously slimy – I’m gonna miss him.
Eww, PunkyMomma, no one needs to hear that so early in the morning.
I make no apologies. Put a bag over Tater’s head and I’m good to go. I’ve developed a severe allergy to bivalves, you may have observed (or not).
Without MM this movie will be seriously lacking in entertainment because he was the most interesting character out of the whole lot.
I actually thought Cody Horn was ok in the first one. I thought her acting was natural – to me, she just came across like a real person. Definitely didn’t think she brought the movie down. I also kind of liked the contrast of having well-known actors with a complete unknown. Not looking forward to Amber Heard, but we’ll see.
I thought Cody Horn was meh, not as consistently awful as everyone howled about. BUT apparently WB acquired the film a couple of months after it was shot, so all the nepotism hoo ha is perhaps moot, at least in the way many have implied.
She was a massive buzzkill from start to finish. Whether it was a terrible characterization or acting I’m not sure but I’m glad she’s gone.
My best friend and I kept rewinding the raining men sequence of the first film. ..
We were both past one too many margaritas in and squealed like teens, never did make it to the end 😁
I’ll wait til it hits Redbox.
Oh, the raining men sequence! Cinematic genius, I tell you. I could watch it all day.
I am unabashedly looking forward to XXL. It’s really only fair after the decades of gratuitous breast scenes that we are thrown a bone (so to speak).
Also, regarding the men in this movie. I’ve never actually seen one of these creatures in the wild. They’re real, right? Not photoshopped and with contouring makeup and manipulated make believe?
Tatum dances so well very graciously but it looks the same sort of movie than 50 Shades of Grey.A mum porn trailer.
LOL! I haven’t seen the Magic Mike’s L, XL before I venture into XXL. I will bring myself to watch the previous one first if it’s free somewhere alright? Gimme some time. Taking a deeeeep breath now.
I would pay to see this in the theaters (complete with airplane bottles and all) if I can get another Ginuwine “Pony” dance. *excuse me-i need a moment alone*
Best scene ever *wipes sweat from brow*
I never saw the first movie til last night. The Pony dance almost impregnated me through the TV. I pretty much fast forwarded everything else.
No way will I watch the second one in public.😳
That boy can certainly move *loosening collar, gulping loudly*
So blondie Kristen Stewart was replaced by another blondie Kristen Stewart?
Ohhh yeah! So going to watch this and objectify men…
Tatum has moves, hope the rest of them can keep up. This looks awesome, I saw the first one on a plane and giggled through the whole thing.
I watched the first Magic Mike at home while hubby was gone on a trip! LOL! I am not attracted to Channing Tatum but I do LOVE to watch him dance with clothes, without whatever. And the whole thing with Joe and the soda made me laugh. See it for what it is…a bit of fun.
This is a great trailer! Very campy and funny. I believe Channing had a lot of fun making this film. I haven’t seen the first Magic Mike yet but I will definitely watch it now because I really want to see Magic Mike XXL.
i’m Only here to Ogle, Objectify and SING PONY AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGGGSSSSS Ginuwine has never given us a Bigger Blessing
(and if you feel like I do About Pony , Please review dancing alone to Pony Tumblr… is … Glorious here : http://dancingalonetopony.tumblr.com )
I squealed like a prize sow yesterday, because TWWWWWWWWITCHHH!!! Ogle, objectify and TWIIIIITCH!!! I will go on a Tuesday afternoon in a my red trench coat and a wig from The Joan Collins Collection.
On the radio this morning, part of the 50 Shades advertisement spot was playing “Pony” and I pretty much said “Excuse me, that song should only be used to advertise Magic Mike.”
I watched the trailer on repeat yesterday during a particularly boring work training seminar. It was wonderful.
I saw the first one in theaters with friends, we went in with low expectations and hoping we’d see some hotties dancing. We were all surprised there was a story that wasn’t horrible – not great but I didn’t think there would be any plot at all.
We giggled, ogled and enjoyed ourselves. I’m sure we’ see this one just to have a fun night out again.
I read Elizabeth Berkely for Elizabeth Banks and for a moment I thought ‘how meta’
Alas, no. Not sure if I’ll see this one, the only excellent thing about the first was MMcC
Not gonna lie, I watched the trailer smiling. So silly. OF COURSE I’M GOING TO WATCH IT. I’m totally a hypocrite because I am anti-50 shades. Mostly because I don’t want to support a terribly-written book series and I don’t care to see S&M. And I fully realize stripping exploits the men and women who do it.
But CHARMING POTATO. This movie looks so fun. I will be there with bells on.
Okay, this is a NSFW clip of Bomer’s DELETED Ken doll dance. Why oh why they deleted it, I’ll never understand, but dang there better be more Bomer booty this time, ’cause that man can shake it! http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oBeHEvwYul0
Seriously? I thought Matthew McConaughey was cringe worthy in the first one…he won’t be missed by me! I agree that girl love interest was the WORST!
Can’t wait for this sequel! ^_^
Oh … oh this looks delicious. #teamPotato
Cannot wait!!
My best friend & I went to see the first one opening day. The theater was packed (with all women, of course). Everyone was whooping & clapping, like we were in an actual strip club. It was so much fun (until it got all dramatic and what not, but still…)! Definitely going to the sequel. Hell yeah, count me in. 😉
Girl, it was the same here and my goodness, it was just fun and it was like everyone was having a blast in the theatre 🙂
I seriously cannot wait for this movie. I watched the last one with my girlfriends and it was so much fun, it’s not meant to be taken too seriously and is just an enjoyable, fun movie to shriek and get silly to. 🙂 Also, Channing has really grown on me since 22 Jump Street.
