Oh, God. Release the Dragonflies!!!!!!
Tom Hiddleston went outside on Thursday. He has been keeping a much lower profile for the past year, not showing up to the opening of an envelope, working back to back on projects he seems to really care about. And 2015 is The Year of Hiddles. He’ll have four films out this year, and it’s never too early to start hustling. So not only will we see Hiddles at the BAFTAs on Sunday night (he’s a presenter!), he also attended the BAFTA fundraising gala last night.
I’m glad he didn’t dust off his formal tuxedo – he’s probably saving that for Sunday. Instead, we got Hiddles in a nice suit and tie. He still looks super-tired, but he’s put on a little weight since his very thin appearances after filming I Saw the Light. He looks good. God help me, I think he actually looks adorable. CB and I were just talking about him this week too – I told her that I was really feeling the Hiddlesdrought and his absence had made my heart grow fonder. I needed some Hiddles and that’s why he came out!
And not only did he come out for this pre-BAFTA event, he also made his FIRST TWEET in three-and-a-half months. He responded to Damian Lewis’s “challenge” to do an on-camera tongue twister for the Sohana Research Fund. Damian has challenged people to do the “EB Tongue Twister” of their choosing. So Hiddles posted his video yesterday. Of all the tongue twisters, he has to choose the one where he says “d-ck” like thirty times? Here’s the video:
Bless his heart. I love his turtleneck sweater. I’m pretty sure that’s a woman’s sweater. You know what? I’m into it. He’s so GD adorable. I recognize that backyard too – it’s the same backyard in Tommy’s Ice Bucket Challenge. I’m assuming that’s HIS backyard. What a perfect place for a sexual fantasy about Lord Dragonfly.

I suspect that sweater started out life three times as big but shrunk when it went for a whirl in the washer. The boy can’t part with it so just wears it around the house or when he goes for a cuppa and and lemon cake at the local cafe. The sleeves are short, but he looks adorable.

I just had a look at Torilla on Tumblr. OMG…on one hand I am delighted to have all the photos, vids of Tommy to look at but on the other it makes me feel slightly stalkerish.
I love that he always looks so happy just to be there – wherever he is. The man is having the time of his life.
The neighbouring house has great views over his backyard. Our backyard has that too, but we aren’t famous. Can’t imagine too much sexing would be happening in that space though, mores the pity. The turtleneck is doing it for me big time.
It’s an apartment building. Now all the crazies know which exactly is his house thanks to this angle of the photo.

Yes, M.A.F., the snacks too. Although, to be honest, beverages and snacks are better on the Tom threads because my butler Colin Firth caters. He swore off the BC threads because they were just too rough.
Poor Colin was so harried he could only manage “snacks” over on Bendy’s threads. He barely could keep up with the guacamole demands and was quite stressed over the peanut shells littered on the ground. He’s a neat freak, y’know.
Here, where it’s more relaxed, he takes the time to prepare proper hors d’oeuvres for us. My personal favorite is his crab and avocado toasts — as delicious as he is. He makes a mean chocolate martini too, I might add.

Thank you for the explanation, @MtnRunner. Eager thing that I am, it never occurred to me to look for a pattern. Do we have a married masseuse? That would work for me. Does No Respect Remora have a use, or is she assumed nonexistent? My own view of real-life enemies is that they are so passively destructive that they are good for nothing. If I am forced to consider her kindly, perhaps the position of photographer would serve justice well.

There is no such thing as being “secretly married”. Marriage requires a license, which is never given in secret and marriage license databases are searchable public records, no secrecy whatsoever. As far as “hiding” a relationship, if a person’s parents, siblings, extended relatives, closest friends know about the relationship, the couple is not hiding. If they share a residence, go on vacations together, go to restaurants, plays, concerts, movies, grocery stores together, they are not hiding. People don’t have to issue a press release every time they go on a date, get engaged, or get married. And this whole concept of a relationship isn’t real or it is hidden because people haven’t walked a red carpet together is just absurd. Red carpets are work events. I don’t bring my boyfriend to work events and most of my co-workers don’t either, even after hours events. And I don’t go to my boyfriend’s work events – they bore me. Parties are a different story, yes. So, no, I don’t consider an actor to be “hiding” a woman just because he hasn’t dragged her down some stupid red carpet. No, I don’t care if he is married. Why would I? And this constant rumor of getting a “girl” pregnant? Nobody over the age of 18 is a girl. This rumor implies really disturbing behavior, and, if there is no proof, it is really disturbing that people are circulating it.
@Lilac – I am giving you a one girl, er…I mean a mature, intelligent self-actualized female-type person standing ovation. A thousand times yes to everything you’ve said. Why do people persist in ascribing a relationship status to whether or not someone is seen at a public even with someone else? Especially a work event – and make no mistake, most of these things are ‘work’. And then go a step further and analyze said ‘relationship’ by body language, eye contact, and whether or not they held hands, or had the nerve to speak politely and smile at another guest that was not their date?
Can I add a small asterisk to every marriage is public record? The vast majority are and there is no way getting around that, but California does have a well established Confidential Marriage process that I think anyone can use (I still believe this is what Brad and Ange did before they headed to France for their wedding). My own state has a mechanism that will shield a marriage certificate from being public record, but the process is quite restrictive and only done as part of a larger protection for someone who may be endangered if their personal info was made public (victims of abuse and other violent crimes for example).
The UK has some very interesting requirements and restrictions regarding marriage. I’ll confess I still don’t quite get how it all works. Lilac – are you sure your marriage to Tom is legally binding? I don’t recall seeing the notice posted at the local Council office?
I assumed that remark was nothing more than a reference to the Otter.
I suspect that when TH gets serious with someone, she will be walking the red carpet with him and accompanying him to premiers whenever she can. Which is why I get frustrated with all the speculation about someone he’s seen talking to, vacationing with or photographed with. None of that means they’re dating, let alone dating exclusively. Men and women do hang out as friends and it’s clear that Tom has a LOT of female friends. He’s by nature a flirtatious, affectionate guy, but even when he’s not acting that way with a woman, speculation ensues. If I were him, I wouldn’t be seen in public with my SO until I was ready to pop the question, with the way she will get scrutinized.
I agree with Lilac. As for the Otter, I find it utterly insane to create an entire scenario of his relationship with his fiancee based on a few red carpet photos and hearsay on gossip blogs. I know this is gossip, but come on. We’re supposed to be “smart”.
@Mtn – yeppers. Although actively trying to avoid being seen together is an admission that you’ve given some thought about how your relationship might play in the public eye, which kind of give me the icks. But it’s also naive to think ‘live your life and the hell with it’ is a better tactic. An actor’s public profile and fan appeal is a large part of their bank-ability, they’d be fools not to give it some thought. Crap – you could go crazy trying to navigate this minefield. It’s a no-win proposition either way you go.
Either way, you probably need a strong sense of self to be a SO to a public figure, especially if you don’t live a public life already and have no desire to. I’m guessing a good sense of humor and enjoyment of the absurd don’t hurt.
Darya, I just think that any woman who decides to date a public figure better be prepared for more than the usual amount of frustration in the relationship. I don’t blame a couple for keeping a relationship underground if bringing it above ground invites a excessive amount of scrutiny. It’s just the unfortunate reality when someone’s constantly being watched and talked about online. A woman would have to be very confident in herself to be able to handle that sort of life. I doubt many can and be happy.
I was always way more into Tom. Cumby was a good actor and looked sexy as Kahn and that’s about it. I’m only in it for him now as a mystery wrapped in an enigma of weirdness.

I’m relatively new to both due to spending mass amounts of time running up and down mountains the past few years. Discovered Sherlock just before season 3 premiered last year and became a Bendy fan, catching up on his posts here and reading / watching interviews. I enjoyed his Khan and his work in Starter for 10 and Wreckers.
I discovered Hiddles the same way last fall (due to the persistant threadjacking) after getting turned off by Ben’s Elle and Out Mag interviews and his PR antics with the Comet.
I think Tom’s a better actor overall and I’m a huge fan of his Shakespeare and independant work. Loki’s fun, but doesn’t really show his range, so I’ll be glad when he’s done with Marvel. I’m really excited to see his upcoming films and Night Manager, especially.

I was an equal fan of both before BC went off the deep end. It’s not that he got engaged, it’s all the crap that followed. Just a total turn off. Give me light and fluffy, hard working and hopefully some good projects up ahead over that mess. I’m actually a lot disappointed in BC for his antics (as far as celebs go).
In all honesty, not many, or at least ones who were going to stick around. They’re not interchangeable.

Since he has no control over when his projects release, I reckon getting Marvel outta the way early on will be good for him. The other projects won’t be as big of films as Avengers and they’re all so different from each other, that he’ll be gaining new fans with each. With his change in keeping his head down the past year and not interacting online with his fans like he used to, I’m hopeful that he won’t be causing me to side-eye him once the PR onslaught starts. I think he’s grown up a bit in the past couple of years and will handle the fame and fans better this time around.
I have always watched Ben for shows/films he was in. I think he is a good actor but way overrated at the moment bit definitely in the top 30 of UK best actors, Pesrsonality and looks wise he has never rung my bell. Way to much of using criticism and sound bites designed to get him and his work attention.

Ben on the other hand never really floated my boat. I never found him attractive and though I like Sherlock and he’s great in it (still Team Moriarty, though), I probably wouldn’t have paid much attention to him if his PR and fandom hadn’t gone downhill this autumn/winter. Sometimes you just watch a mess because it’s a mess. 😉

I have been a Hiddles fan for a while but have been slow to posting. Wallandet-I remember him from Wallander-but only started to follow after Thor. Since then I have been quietly accumulating Hiddles work.

Scarf, I think you’re the first person who mentioned seeing TH as bitchy Magnus as your introduction. I was so disappointed that they didn’t develop his character on that show. It could have been a better had it been more of an ensemble piece than a vanity project for Branagh. I didn’t bother watching after season 2.
But Wallender Season 2 is when the best line of all happened! Because murder is exhausting!
I stopped after FINISHING season 2. My favorite Magnus scene of the series was the rescue of Wallander’s daughter.

Harper’s Bazaar UK tweeted (after first sending out a tweet referencing ‘Tom Hiddlestone’) a great pic of Tom at the head of the room–the first tweet said he ‘closed the auction’, so I think he was a Significant Figure at last night’s event. The second tweet said off to the dancing, so now we know why post-Gala Tom departure pictures look even more tired– but happy! And the hair is SO sexy in them, all loosened up and fluffier!

Unfortunately I have this awful sense of foreboding joy. I keep wondering what kind of effery he’s going to be up to when it’s his turn to reach for the golden ring on the awards carousel.
He’s very ambitious, so it will be interesting.
Happy thoughts, Sunflower. Keep in mind that Tom and Ben are not the same. Tom is very guarded and doesn’t have foot-in-mouth syndrome like Ben. He also keeps his private life in the vault by walking the talk, unlike Ben. Tom keeps his snark towards annoying fans at a minimum and doesn’t whine about the downsides of fame but acts grateful for what it has brought him.
The worse thing we have to fear is overexposure from Tom due to so many projects coming out in the next year.

There’s no way of knowing for sure, as he’s never dealt with that level of the game and a hallmark of campaigning is uncharacteristic behavior.
But it’s not a cause for worry either. Plenty of actors have had not-great first-time campaigns because they are on the back foot, but they come out and recover fine and they learn.
Pretty much this. Campaigns are machines, actors are cogs. Lot of stuff goes on behind the scenes we don’t see, it’s the people who don’t know how to say who tend to get screwed & a lotta good ones have gone through a crappy one.
It’s not really a concern with Tom atm lol. Overexposure, yeah, probably will happen. And his ppl know it, publicity firms have long-term plans, so that’s likely why he pulled back when he could.

Hear, hear, Scarf. I too, have always had a soft spot for nerds and dorks. As long as he’s not interacting directly with fans, posting pictures of his food or self-help bookish quotes I’m ok with the tweeting. I just don’t think he needs to do it at this point. Let his work speak for itself and let him promote it as he sees fit. Luke and studios can keep us informed as to what he is/will be involved with and he can divulge any personal details he wants in interviews. That’s all he needs to do PR wise, really.
I think his reputation as a Cinefile helps because his taste in films is very eclectic and he can talk the talk about genres and his genuine love of all films not just the one he is promoting.

JK Simmons evidently told Red Carpet News that “the chance to work with Tom Hiddleston” is why he signed on to Skull Island. Whether entirely true or not, that’s a swell thing to say! They obviously got on well in December.

Nice. Hope to find his interview on YT soon. Simmons always gives his acceptance speech by mentioning Miles Teller in a bit of a snarky way. I wonder that 2 didn’t get alone much. Teller is a piece of work though, saying all those things that he said about Simmons like he didn’t know what films Simmons was in. There’ll be no trouble for JK and Tom getting along, for sure. Hope Tom gets to meet Keaton during Bafta or at the after party. I think 3 of them together will be a lot of fun.

I was thrilled to see Beck won Best Rock Album tonight. That’s been my favorite album on long, slow runs. I also think it’s his best.
Tho’ I’d love to see Tom back on stage, it’s good to hear him say he’s too busy in the near future to do it. I thought he was filming NM this Spring and SI in the summer or fall. Has anyone heard if Thor 3 is scheduled for filming this year?
MtnR–In the interview, Tom doesn’t seem too sure when Thor 3 filming will start–which tells me not anytime in 2015 or early 2016. Pretty sure Torrilla will do you for pics–I’ve found all the afterparty pics from elsewhere up there not too long after they show up in the interwebz. Try BAFTA tag for searching on Instagram AND youtube, that should cover videos.
Hope Lilacflowers notices that her OTHER super-secret husband was also there tonight, making a beardy Julianne Moore sandwich with Superman! I’m really hoping for afterparty pics of those two and our Tall Man–I want him inspired to full face fur by Skull Island!
