Shawna is also her step-daughter’s surrogate. This is happening, people. Shayne Lamas was having major issues carrying a fetus to term, so Shayne asked her stepmother – who is a year younger – to be her surrogate. Modern family, eh?
ONLY in the new issue of ‘Closer Weekly,’ Shayne Lamas — who recently announced she was having a baby via surrogate — exclusively reveals the very special woman carrying her baby is her stepmom, Shawna Craig!
“Shawna’s not just my stepmother, she’s like a soul sister,” Shayne, 29, gushes in the new issue of ‘Closer.’ Shawna, 28, is the fifth wife of her father, Lorenzo Lamas. “She’s an angel that blessed my whole family, including my father.”
Last year, Shayne lost a baby boy she was carrying after a rare uterine rupture and found out she and husband Nik Richie could never have kids again. But Shawna, who insists she never desired a baby of her own, works for a fertility agency that connects couples who can’t get pregnant with egg donors and surrogates and realized she could help Shayne and Nik.
“I’m ecstatic to be pregnant. It’s the best thing in the world,” Shawna, due on July 10, tells ‘Closer.’ ‘Closer Weekly’ can also reveal that the couple is expecting a baby boy! Shayna says while the situation isn’t ordinary, this baby has helped bring the entire family closer.
“It is weird. Somebody else carrying your baby is weird. But I lost my son, and now Shawna is carrying my son. I have just been given the biggest blessing in the whole world and I will always be grateful,” Shayna told ‘Closer.’
My take: this is mostly an unusual and surprisingly touching story of two women who are like sisters, with one woman making a tremendously selfless act to help her friend. The fact that they’re family members is wonderful. But the ick factor comes in when you realize that Lorenzo Lamas is 57 years old and married to his fifth wife, and the wife is one year younger than his oldest daughter. But still… everyone involved is a consenting adult and it’s fine. I hope everything turns out okay.

It is a weird situation, but I have a lot of sympathy for Shayne — after a uterine rupture, a surrogate *is* her only option for a child that is genetically related to her or her husband. (And before the “there are lots of children waiting for adoption!” brigade starts up, let me just point out that adopting a child is a very emotionally fraught, expensive process that is unsuitable for many people who are perfectly capable of being OK biological parents.) I hope it works out. But these situations of close emotional involvement between parents and gestational surrogate can get really messy, really fast. Hopefully the two women really do love each other and get on as well as presented here.
However much sympathy I have for Shayne, her outfit in the top photo is unforgivable.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought Shayne already had a biological daughter. Sometimes I wish people would be happy with what they have already. For most couples, surrogacy isn’t even a viable option. She is quite lucky in a lot of ways.

If you see Nik’s site thedirty, you will see how he treats other people. He justifies the posts on his site b/c other people wrote and submitted them to him, he didn’t do it himself. However, if this situation (the surrogacy) was in any other family but his own he would make fun of it until the end of time. He can be such a hypocrite. I think it’s great for them but Nik would not be so kind had it been someone else’s family. He would have said it was somehow incestuous and weird.
Nik (Hoomin Karmein) and his website are sickening. He would make fun of anyone else doing this, but he doesn’t have to worry about pregnancy ruining his wife’s thigh gap now does he? Because just from his site I could also see him being a jerk like that (getting angry at a pregnant lady who gained weight).
Pretty sure he has made fun of pregnant ladies and their bodies before for being “fat”. His site is despicable; at it’s core is misogyny and racism. I feel sorry for his wife; I can’t imagine being married to that animal. She probably gets an ego boost from his approval since he bashes women if they’re not perfect (in his eyes anyways, seems like his idea of a woman is a human equivalent of a Barbie doll).
The only reason I know who Shayne and nik are is BC they were on couples therapy. Now i know that show is scripted and contrived but I do think she is ashamed of how he makes his living and that is why I for one wish she would not bring more kids into it. He’s not a nice person and she knows it. Evidentally she’s willing to forego that but it doesn’t make for a happy marriage.
The last time I was sick, I ended up watching a marathon of Celebrity Wife Swap – including one with Lorenzao & Shawna Lamas. I was really impressed with her! She still works, insisting on maintaining separate income and identy from Lamas. She is basically the full time mom to his three children with that Sands lady. She came across as very down to earth and loving. So this seems like a great thing all the way around, especially considering Shayne’s incredibly tragic miscarriage – I believe she was also in a coma afterwards?
She really did come across as a sincerely sweet, kind, loving person on that show. After watching it, this seems like something she would do out of the goodness of her heart.
i liked her too, and I didn’t realize she was in her late 20s. I thought she was in her 30s. She was down to earth, no nonsense, and sweet. She is the heart of that household.
Yeah, I watched it too and she came across really well- like a person I would like in real life. Being a gestational carrier is a generous thing to do.
I also watched Shayne on “The Bachelor” and saw a few episodes of “Couples Therapy” (writing all of this is making me think hard about my life choices…)- Shayne seemed ok on Bachelor, but is clearly uncomfortable with how her husband makes a living. I find him despicable, but unfortunately they were on Couples Therapy with Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden, and Nik made a lot of good points about Doug being a child molester and how wrong that relationship was, and I really hated myself for agreeing with him.
What happened to his face? Good luck to them and very sweet of her but why do people pose like that when preg. I can see she has a bump as her dress is very fitted.

I wouldn’t have known it was him, his face is unrecognizable to me. He seems to have gotten the same eye procedure as Renee Z, his eyes are a completely different shape now. He looks like a hybrid of Nick Lachey and Cindy Crawford’s husband to me.

It is a beautiful thing to do for someone. I have seen similar stories of mothers carrying children for their daughters. This was beyond unselfish and sweet. Not sure how many people would do that. Sad that she had such a hard time trying to have children. Just shows again that getting pregnant is not that easy; and so many people struggle with it.
I wish them a happy, healthy baby. I think it’s very unselfish to be a surrogate. I don’t understand how you could carry a baby for nine months and then just hand it over to someone else, but I suppose you go into it with a different mentality than a normal pregnancy. I still think it would be hard.

I have no idea who they are but I feel so bad for the woman that lost her baby. Uterine rupture is so scary and rare. I’m glad she will be able to have a sweet rainbow baby.

Nik Richie is one of the meanest, misoyginistic a-holes out there. This is a sweet sentiment even though it’s weird, but Nik’s presence taints it.
“Fifth wife” is what scares me. I hope there is a rock solid surrogacy contract in the background to ensure that there isn’t some bizarre custody fight over this baby when Lorenzo’s marriage to Shawna inevitably goes south.
The ick factor is that he probably has sex with his wife while his grand kid is cooking inside of her. Strange but whatever works for them.

My first thought, too. Glad I’m not the only one whose mind went there. It’s sweet of her to make the sacrifice for her stepdaughter, though. And I suppose any surrogate one uses will be having sex with someone (most likely) so at least it’s someone familiar and comfortable.
