Jennifer Aniston and Scarlett Johansson had a few things in common last night. They were both wearing Versace, to mixed results. They both attended the Oscars as presenters and both attended with their lesser-known partners/husbands. Beyond that… yeah, not that much in common.
For what it’s worth, I actually sort of liked Jennifer Aniston’s Versace. I thought it was strapless, but she has one nude-type strap, you just can’t see it because she wore her hair down and styled the same way it’s always styled. I liked this Versace because A) it didn’t look too prom-y, which Aniston veers into often enough and B) because she wasn’t moping around in a black dress. While this cream/nude doesn’t really stand out, she was on trend for the evening, and I actually think this was one of the best dress examples for that trend. I would have styled her slightly differently – make the makeup a bit stronger and do something different with her hair. I also would have gotten her in some major jewels – this whole look is desperate for some bling. Is it just me or does Justin Theroux have a “trapped” look? JT’s wearing D&G, by the way.
I was complaining on Twitter about Aniston getting to present with David Oyelowo, because it seemed like a false equivalency that they were both equally snubbed. They were not. David Oyelowo was legitimately snubbed for a career-defining performance as MLK and Jennifer Aniston just try to buy and hustle her way into an Oscar nomination and the Academy gave her a pat on the head and turned her away. They are not equal. That is all.
As for ScarJo… I really didn’t like this. But I’ll try to be nice… her body looked crazy and this Versace just emphasized her insane proportions. I liked that she went with a bold color, even though I thought this particular shade of green read as kind of cheap-looking in many photos. Most of my issues with this look were with the necklace, which was too matchy with the dress and just too BIG for ScarJo. (Update: Scarlett is wearing a Piaget ear cuff.) She’s a small, short girl with an hourglass figure – she needs to lengthen her body and neck, and the necklace cuts her off. I’m so over her Miley hair too. PS… What does Romain have against socks?! Brother is NEVER wearing socks.

I think Jennifer’s dress is meh. It’s not ugly, but it’s not great either. I’m mesmerized by the band that’s in front of her hoo-ha, but other than that……I have a serious haterade for her HAIR. I do not understand why she does this beachy crap with EVERY. SINGLE. DRESS. that she wears. Every single one. I can’t believe she actually has a hair stylist. With that dress, I would’ve at least done some curls, something to pull it back, or up. SOMETHING. And I think she should go darker/have no streaks.
Yep, her highlights are the same colour of the dress, so it all kinda looked mashed up together.

I agree on everything. That swatch across her hip is just awful, especially from certain angles. And that hair – I think she has awful hair. It always looks so dry, frosted and dated to me.
At this point, I’m convinced that whenever we see her with long hair–ponytail or straight–we’re seeing hair extensions.

I was going to say the same thing. For someone with a banging bod, this dress isn’t doing Jen any favors, it gives her a “tummy” – which we all know she doesn’t have. The dress itself is pretty. She looks kinda goodish but rather blah. The color totally washes her out. BORING styling with forgettable hair.
Scarjo’s necklace is awful and her hair looks kind of severe here. Without the necklace the cleavage would have been too much. A different necklace might have saved this look.

Liked both dresses, Aniston is not generally very adventurous but i thought this was nice, not amazing but nice. Loved Scarlett’s. According to Fashion Police ( so call me shallow) the so called necklace was actually part of the dress. Whatever, I thought it was lovely . I also love her hair.

I agree. Aniston looks gorgeous and I actually like her dress. Would like her to do something different with her hair once in awhile, though. Scarlett’s dress was perfect for her body, though I think she should have lost the necklace. Both had flawless makeup and their bodies looked banging in their gowns.

Ha! You are so right! I think she’s trying to look edgier now that she is diving into her singing career (again). She has an ultra pop girl group out. The musical style isn’t for me, and the lyrics are atrocious ( she calls them “ironic”), but I was surprised by how good her voice sounds in it. It’s called/or the group is called Candy, FWIW. Heard it recently on Sirius XMU.

It’s clear Jen has put on some weight in the last several months, but I think it looks good on her – I l always thought she looked too thin during the Pitt years. She’ll never change her hair, it’s her security blanket. As for Justin looking trapped, I’ve said before that I think these two have already broken up, or are at least seriously on the rocks, and he’s been hanging around to escort her to all the awards functions, much like John Mayer did in 2009. It’s just my opinion, I’m not basing it on any concrete information, but a break up announcement in the next few weeks wouldn’t surprise me a bit.

As for her hair, having seen her ears I can understand why she uses her hair as a curtain. BUT, it would look better dyed brown, or even a burgundy. Especially with her eyes, it would look really good. Light hair does not suit her….NOT..AT..ALL.

I sincerely adored Scarlett’s look. Her body in that dress is insane. The colour is gorgeous. The fit is perfect. The combination of punk hair swept back into a regal hollywood shape with an old-school Liz Taylor grandma necklace was inspired. She’s one of my favourite looks of the night.

I am no fashionista, so I don’t really have an opinion one way or the other except to say BE PRACTICAL! Wearing underwear is the tasteful thing to do, just make sure it works with the dress.

I thought Scarlett brought it hard. It’s weird but I never got her physical appeal til she chopped off her hair, now all of a sudden with this short ‘do in these body-hugging dresses I can’t take my eyes off her. And I think the necklace adds drama without being overwhelming. Also a nice pop of color in an ocean of champagne tones & pastels. 10/10.

Not a fan of Aniston’s gown, but then I don’t find her red carpet style all that interesting or exciting. And she has a way of making everything she wears on the red carpet look like she bought it at the mall. Love the color on Scarlett, love the dress, just that neck thing (it’s not really a necklace) is too much of the green stuff. I happen to like her hair, because I finally see beautiful facial features. She looks positively edgy. So if I would have to compare, she wins this. Jennifer looks bland, and the lower part of her dress is sort of look-through, which gives it a different shade. It has this Casino feel to it, reminds me of dresses Celine Dion would wear for a Vegas show.

The original dress was sheer and much more delicate and detailed. It had finer designs in lace and beadwork vs. generic overall squiggle beading design in the Aniston one. This version just looks clunky and lower-effort to me (and a bit like an old-school 1950s foundation garment but with sparkles).
No doubt that dress has an inbuilt corset type situation like most Versace dresses appear to, because JA does not have a small waist. And yet in some angles it looks like she has bit of a big tum on her. So weird. And would it have killed her to part her hair on the side and have some soft waves in it or something, and maybe a brighter lippy.

Scarlett should have left that necklace at home, it really damaged a pretty look. I liked both dresses, but Scarletts color a little more. I can’t say anything about Jennifer having to change her hair style because mine hasn’t been different for years
But you’re not an A-list celebrity with millions at your disposal to employ the best stylists, designers, make up artists that money can buy. Comparing yourself to a woman who does yet still looks the same isn’t fair to you.
Aniston needed to spray tan her foot or something. I don’t normally believe in picking on people for these sorts of issues that everyone has had at some point, but it’s the freaking oscars.

Out of these two Jennifer Aniston had the better dress. What really kills Scarlett’s look for me is the necklace which totally overpowers her.
Jennifer’s dress was…fine. I’d give anything to get this woman in some color. And her hair is so predictable, but I realize she looks awful every time she tries to wear it up. She has to soften that Franken-jaw somehow. But maybe she could move on from the 90’s wispy beachy thing. Yawn, yawn, yawn.
Scarjo’s dress was magnificent, color and all, and fit her perfectly. It’s that damn tacky throw pillow trim necklace that blew it. She should have gone with some heftier fab jeweled drop earrings and left her neck/chest bare. That slamming body does all the talking….doesn’t need some necklace-by-Bob Mackie nonsense. And the Miley hair is just so last year.

I think Scarlett looked stunning and I actually liked her necklace. I loved Reece Witherspoon’s dress as well. Both Scarlett and Reece have incredible stylists/tailors. I also liked the dresses of Rosamund Pike, Emma Stone, Lupita Nyong’o, Laura Dern, and Melanie Griffith (my working girl!) as well.

Jennifer looks great but yes an updo would have been better with the dress. I´m surprised how good she seems to feel with a few extra pounds. Always thought she will hit the gym after her scar-cake-movie. But she really looks healthy and happy. Her look here is nothing special by the way. She plays safe as always, but at least it isn´t another black dress…

I actually liked Scarlett’s look. It’s edgy to go with her edgy hair do. And the color is amazing. The cut of the dress shows off her figure too. I give Aniston props for not wearing black. But I felt the cut of the dress wasn’t really flattering. But she seemed so happy and that will win out over her dress.
Both women looked terrific, unfortunately we still draw up comparisons or fake competitions, who looked better?! Jen has been complaining during her promo campaign for Cake, that she isn’t being considered for roles outside of her established image of Rachel Green and California beach girl. She’s spent a lot of time and money trying to change the conversation about her image and career. She seems stuck in time.
She could have taken the opportunity to project a new image that is more congruent with the career she says she wants. Instead she seems to be clinging to her rom-com ingénue days. She didn’t make it easy for a producer in the audience to imagine her in a more dramatic dimensional way.
In a show or movie yes, but with regards to what she decides to wear, do with herself to the Oscars ceremony…no. She wore her hair down, she didn’t get it cut, she didn’t color it. Get a grip people. She isn’t the only one who has had the same basic hairstyle for along time…I’m sure there are actresses out there who have not changed their hair. She wears her hair long with some hi-lights. This is nitpicking at it’s finest, in my opinion.
Jen looked gorgeous! I’m in my early 20’s and watched the Oscars with some friends, and when she came on screen we all gushed about how great she looked. I’m not a fan on Scarlett’s dress, but her body is amazing!
My only complain about Aniston’s look is the hair. I groaned out loud when I saw her last night. She needs to change it up. As for ScarJo, the dress fit her like a glove but that necklace is a full bag of nope.
The gown on Jen was stunning. The way it fit to her body and the bodice was so flattering.

Both women looked beautiful. Aniston has her look and she’s sticking to it, but I’m OK with that.
Jen doesn’t have that desperate air that she had with Mayer IMO. She looks happy and relaxed. Justin looks like he doesn’t know where to look. Jen has put on weight since she has been with him. Maybe she is one of those women who eats when she is happy.

Although I’m not a fan of Scar Jo she looks pretty here. Not fan of the necklace on her,it would look amazing on someone tall like Charlize Theron.
Scarlet is slim but i’m sure she’s wearing spanx. I’ve see pictures of her in a bikini and her waist wasn’t that small. Her waist looks tiny here and I don’t think the shape can change,even if she lost weight.

Jennifer’s dress fit her beautifully, she looked amazing. Scarlett’s dress and neck thingy fill me with rage. I hate it with a passion.
They both looked like movie stars, not perfect perhaps, but like old-school movie stars!

I love Scarlet’s dress and even the necklace. She went for big drama with her look and she nailed it.
Jennifer’s look is a nice departure from her usual, but I agree with a couple of other folks who said she looked a bit thick/pregnant. I’m sure she is not pregnant (because when is she ever, right?), but maybe all those margaritas are finally catching up to her…?
I don’t mind SJ with short hair but with it brushed back like that it just looks too severe and not the the sort of hairstyle to go with the armour around her lovely neck. As for JA, why bring her up at all? Other than the ongoing “tabloid epic” that is JA vs AJ, I don’t get the attraction or the interest. I’ll watch her movies but I won’t watch them because of her; no hate but no love either, just like 80% the rest of Hollywood.
They are both beautiful women. But I prefer Jennifers dress. It’s more flattering, more elegant. And I love the fact that she didn’t go overboard with accessories and hair and makeup. She seems to be so laid back and relaxed and maybe that’s the reason why I prefer her dress. In reality it’s never about the clothes, it’s only about the attitude.
Aniston’s dress made her look thick in the middle and small-chested on top. Why would you wear a dress like that? She bores the shit out of me.

Love the color and fit of Scarlett’s dress (she does have one hell of an amazing figure!), but yeah, the necklace was too much. Jennifer Aniston is not a good actress, she has no good movies, not even very succsessfull. She has fans but obviously not enough to make her movies a hit. WHY does the Acadamy even invite her? i dont get it. Does anybody watch the Oscars because of her? i really really dont get why they still give her space to promote her tabloidstardom.
Since Aniston wasn’t a nominee of introducing the costume catergory, I think it made sense that she didn’t wear jewelry with this particular dress.
I’ve seen some celebrities criticized (i.e J-Lo?) when they dress up heavily when they’re not nominated. I don’t know if there’s an actual etiquette for how to dress and I don’t know if that’s what was going through Aniston’s mind (I think she might simply be more of a minimalist like those ladies who wear Calvin Klein), but I think how Aniston dressed made sense in the context of what she was supposed “to be” at the awards show — a presenter.
I don’t think she looked beachy either.
As for Scar-Jo, I was fascinated by how small she was able to get her waist to be. I had no idea that could be done. I don’t get her boyfriend’s rebellion against socks, though. And I didn’t get Travolta’s weirdness with Scar-Jo….can someone explain that???
I thought Aniston’s dress was really boring until I saw it on screen – it was really shimmery and had a nice flow to it. The styling is really sparse, but obviously that’s just Aniston’s thing.
Scarlett’s necklace has got to go, but the dress demands that you look at her rockin’ body (which is what the designer was going for, I guess)!
Jennifer’s dress makes her breasts look small and her waist and hips large, so I think it’s a fail. it also plays that trashy game of “I will almost show you my pubes!” She also seemed to be stepping on it in that last photo, which means it must hang in a strange way (the train shouldn’t be in the way, given how small it is). Is the beading too heavy? I don’t know. But the color is fine and one she seems to like, but that’s about all I can say that is positive.
Scarlet simply because she knows what underwear to use to suit the gown. BTW it isn’t really a necklace per se, its part of the dress, fine net embroidered with beads.

I liked Jen’s dress, but didn’t love it. What I loved is that she seems to be a very nice, very fun woman who has lots of friends and people who like her in the business. She seems to be saying, “To hell with it, I’m going to be myself and have fun!”
At the Globes, she grabbed Kate Hudson’ butt, she hugged and practically lifted up Emma Stone last night – this is a woman who is well-liked. I think she should be given a break – there seem to be so few nice people who are celebrities, that this is nice to see.
You are easily fooled. She is not nice let alone very nice. Someone who is a three times homewrecker is not nice. Someone who manipulatively waged a war on her ex and his wife and made passive-aggressive comments about them, and their children, is not nice. Someone who hires Handler to do the dirtier part with the racist comments against the children, while she walks on, on stage on cue after Handler’s vile intros, grinning, is not nice. She has very few real true friends, even her former room-mate said this. Her only friends are fellow agency friends.
I fail to see how HER grabbing Hudson’s butt, and how SHE practically lifted Emma stone – not the other way around, shows she is ‘well-liked’. She did it, THEY didn’t do it to her. We don’t know how these 2 women responded to Aniston’s attention-seeking antics. Going around pulling crude pranks on others and touching them doesn’t mean you are liked, at all. She is one of the celebrities who is not nice at all, and the evidence going back around 20 years show this.
If she was that well liked in hollywood she would have gotten than Oscar nomination she so desperately campaigned for.
As for her being fun to hang out with – if I want to be either stoned or drunk and bitch about fellow women and their children and blame everything bad that happens in life on everyone else – then yeah she is the best person to party with.
Her butt grabbing and lifting other women is just a sign of immaturity and desperate for attention. More than that – I don’t find it classy at all to behave like that on a award show where the very peer you want to impress are there.
PS: please do mention one actress/actor who is not signed with the same pr agency CAA as Jennifer as her friends. Better yet – please show any coloured celebs Jennifer hangs out with….
Jen wins this one. She looked much better than ScarJo. Now, if ScarJo had lost the fugly necklace and had some loose waves instead of that severe hairstyle she would have looked amazing. But, with the poor styling, she loses to Aniston this time around.

You seriously lost me when comparing this amazing look to – Oatmeal Aniston! Seriously, this is the EXACT same outfit she has worn for years! You could find all her past looks and nothing is different. Color, hair,, tan – wash, rinse, repeat. Its actually offensive.
Aniston should stick to these off-whites and golds she’s been doing lately. She really glows in these colors …black and red and white, not as much.
Scarlett’s wearing a great color for her, but she looks uncomfortable. I like Aniston’s dress because it’s gorgeous on her yet she still looks comfortable. I don’t care how pretty a dress is –if the person looks uncomfortable I don’t like the look.
