Tom Hiddleston tries to #BreaktheInternet with sexy glasses for Comic Relief

TH1

Oh, happy day. I kind of love it when we have a Tom Hiddleston post on a Friday. It reminds me of old-school Hot Guy Fridays. Anyway, the big #BreaktheInternet Hiddleston news is that Tommy is taking part in the advertising for Red Nose Day for Comic Relief in the UK. Comic Relief sells a lot of t-shirts for Red Nose Day and the money goes to all sorts of good programs in the UK and Africa. The t-shirts are sold in the UK at TK Maxx, which is like the American version of TJ Maxx, I would assume.

So what will #BreaktheInternet? Comic Relief released a behind-the-scenes video of various celebrities wearing this year’s charity t-shirts. And Hiddleston posed! With some glasses. It was profoundly sexy. You can see the video here – if you’re interested in anyone other than (or in addition to) Tommy, there’s bonus Simon Pegg, David Gandy and Allen Leech. Here’s the bare-bones Hiddleston part:

And here’s the final product:

Sigh… I need more Tom Hiddleston-wearing-glasses in my life.

    Still mine! Back off!

    • j.eyre says:

      Is that right?

      • Lilacflowers says:

If you go back to threads about a year ago, you tossed him out a window of Thornfield in some lust-filled frenzy about Cumberbatch and puppies or something. I caught him before he hit the ground and he’s been here safe and happy since.

      • Miss M says:

I knew it! Miss Jane, I told you to be careful what you say…
Lilac has a hiddles lending business too!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Uhm, Miss M, and you are signed up to spend Tuesday with him. Or don’t you want to spend Tuesday with him?

      • Miss M says:

I didn’t sign anything. I gave up any rights over the dragonfly king to miss Jane more than a year ago. Ask her… I am pretty sure it was an impostor!

      • MtnRunner says:

Someone needs to fix this whole lending fiasco. My running partner has been AWOL for two weeks.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MtnRunner, your “running partner” is afraid of you and you are on probation for your part in injuries inflicted. He has been running with AbbyJ.

@MissM, I signed you up. If you don’t want him for Tuesday, he can spend the day with Vauvert. As discussed above and on the previous thread, Miss Jane cruelly hurled him out a window for that lizard-like person.

      • Green Eyes says:

No worries from me! I’m busy snogging James Norton’s lush lips!

        #StillHappy

      • MtnRunner says:

Bullsh**. I’ll be taking matters into my own hands. Along with other body parts.

We will not be denied our torrid love affair!

      • Abby_J says:

Yes, and we’ve been having a wonderful time! We are going to change it up some next week for cross training, but don’t worry, I’ll return him in one piece. Mostly. 🙂

      • j.eyre says:

Your entire argument is nullified by the fact that I have never, ever had a thing for Cumberbatch – and that you can take to the bank.

      • t.fanty says:

Yeah, you’re getting her confused with me. Miss Jane has always shown TommyAnne the loyalty he deserves. I’m the fickle slut around Thornfield.

*graps Chris Evans and a taco and runs away while everyone is mesmerized by Tommy*

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MtnRunner, he disagrees and has asked Mark to triple the security forces.

@J.Eyre, well, it may have been the Siberian husky puppies or something but both Tom and Colin Firth got tossed out of Thornfield windows quite sometime ago and have been here ever since, all quite happy, and you never noticed they were gone.

@TFanty, while you have my other husband, please see that he visits that Seattle children’s hospital like he promised. And he might be rambling obsessively about Vince Wilfork for the next few days. And snow, he’s really into all the snow.

Colin has announced that the bar and buffet are fully stocked. Help yourself to the food and he’ll be around to freshen your drinks

      • oneshot says:

@Lilacflower – where do I sign up to rent him for a month? You can take my firstborn in exchange, and I shan’t leave our Hiddles for any lizards.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Your gardener over there at Thornfield really let the flora get out of control. That kind of thing can come back to haunt you! (Or am I thinking of Day of the Triffids? Lilacflower can’t be a Triffid, could she?)

      • Mario-Fatale says:

        LOL At The comments

    • vauvert says:

Well ok, but how about some sharing?

      • Lilacflowers says:

You’re signed up for next Thursday.

      • Isadora says:

And what about poor me? 🙁

      • **sighs** says:

Wow. The crazy level got too much for me. I am sneaking Mark Strong and Mr. Firth out the back and having “quiet time” away from all this raucous.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Isadora, since MissM no longer wants him, he’ll be spending Tuesday with you. Or you can swap with Vauvert for Thursday

      • Lilacflowers says:

@*Sighs*, just be sure Colin is back to fill drink orders, he likes Tom threads

      • Isadora says:

Yessss, thank you. Since Fassy wandered off with Alicia Vikander (how dare he have a real life fling, when he’s internet-married to ME! HA!) I’m in need of some Tommy.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Miss Eyre, he has Wednesday afternoon free, shall I sign you up?

      • 'P'enny says:

hold on a pesky minute there, WHAT ABOUT MOI????!!!! all this sharing is going to where him out. #shoppingfor9mm

      • Lilacflowers says:

‘P’enny, Tom would like to remind you that you have one week left on your probation. He will be spending the day of the DigitalTheatre Plus everybody watch kids as Henry V day with you, but he will be accompanied by Mark and Sean to prevent an occurrence of the last visit’s problem. He’ll see you and ONLY you

    • icerose says:

Wow all these cat fights when the man has enough staying power to spend quality time with us all.He paid me a quick visit after the photo shoot and we has great fun wearing our T shirts in tandem.
That my lot for the week and every one else is welcome to him

@MteRunner he did mention the need for a run and it seems cruel to keep the man from his passion.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Nice fantasy, Icerose, you’re still banned, he is still afraid of you, and he’s running with AbbyJ so no offering of false encouragement to MtnRunner to con her into letting you hurt him again

      • icerose says:

@Lilacflowers No one can keep Tommy from where he wants to go as I know from my experience .He has his ways and means of escaping the most possessive clutches so lets just call it a truce and say that everyone wins and to each there own way,

      • MtnRunner says:

        icerose, BOOM!

Case in point: As you (Lilac) have been refusing to lend my nature boy out for his weekly mtn outing, slandering MY GOOD NAME and lending him out to those you don’t even know, Tom made his way back to me and we enjoyed a lovely romp on some of our favorite snowy trails. He is quite feisty in the cold weather, that boy. We warmed up nicely with a soak in the hot tub and after that, had a damn good sexy rumpus. He’s on his way back, looking at least 5 years younger now that he’s had a proper shag.

Don’t say I never do nice things for you, despite the way you’ve been treating me lately.

    • Lilacflowers says:

@TotallyBiased, not a triffid and if people allow the nice things to be hurled out the window, well, the nice things don’t stay. If Miss Eyre doesn’t want Tom Wednesday afternoon, would you like to take him to tea?

    • EscapedConvent says:

I will need to make a few corrections here. There were never any husky puppies at Thornfield; they were Pomeranians. Tommy took care of them, and occasionally got left out in the rain with them if Miss Eyre got forgetful or was busy entertaining other guests. Tommy was not Cock of the Walk at that time. That title was held by Sir Cumbersnoot, hilarious as that sounds now.

Also, I do not recall anyone being tossed out of any windows. Defenestration would be out of character for Miss Eyre. Her gentleman callers were usually tied up, and were fastened so securely, they couldn’t get out of a window if they wanted to, which they didn’t.

If anyone would like to go over any history, they may see me after class. 😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

No, the huskies weren’t at Thornfield, they were in a Jaguar ad. Nobody said anything about roosters or walks. Cumbershoot can have that title all he wants. Several people were defenestrated. Don’t have time now but may go back tomorrow to find the threads on which that happened about a year ago.

      • EscapedConvent says:

If you insist—-but no. I’m fairly sure that Tommy would not have been able to fall or be thrown out, since Miss Eyre kept a pretty tight grip on him when he was allowed in the house. And no one was fighting over Colin Firth, as everyone agreed that he was perfection in a dinner jacket.

This may be clouded by a discussion that took place one day when I, in the grip of hopeless Cumberlove, said that I had an impulse to unwind Cumby’s dozens of layers of knitwear as Joseph Fiennes had unwound Gwyneth’s bindings in “Shakespeare in Love.”
Gwyneth had been bound, but unfortunately not gagged. Fanty may have wondered, if I did this, if Cumby might go spinning out of a window. Oh, how we laughed!

I’m not inclined to comb through hundreds and hundreds of comments looking for proof of window-tossing. But if you are, will you please tell me what happened to the Thornfield hedgehogs? They are still very cross at some imagined wrong done to them. Miss Eyre ~may~ have tossed out a few of those, or they may simply have fallen out of the pockets of her apron.

  2. LadyMTL says:

I love me some T-Hid, but man is his makeup job awful. In the first and last pics you can see the line, right up near his hair. Sigh. Lay off the orange, Tommy! You’re a sexy beast even without it.

    • InvaderTak says:

I think that’s just pigmentation. It’s always there regardless of makeup I think.

    • Beth says:

I was under the impression he has always had this weird lighter edge around his hairline. Not sure if it’s due to make-up or just the way his skin is. I get that line but only after a tan, which I assume is due to the shadow cast by my hair thus resulting in two different shades.

    • 'P'enny says:

I thought by now people would have realised that it’s his natural sun-kissed freckled forehead. He’s always had that pale white line under his hair. It’s just that 2010-2012 every photo shoot and red carpet event he did the gave him Loki complexion a lot. So when Henry look came on the scene, we finally got to see his freckly normal complexion for a blonde. Now, this last year or two he has hovered in and out a lot of fan- selfies and turning up knackered on the redcarpet after flying from in from shoots. When his hair goes all floof he has no control over it without a ton of gel. The above pic shoes the state of his hair when he got back from filming ISTL, because its no where near that dark now. The wedding was only 2 weeks ago and his hair was very short and back to being auburn again. How I long for his long blond floof.

    • Intro Outro says:

Are we still discussing his hairline?…

    • icerose says:

I get kind of bored with the whole orange make up comments etc etc so what he still looks pretty hot in these photos and i love the glasses.

  3. Estella says:

That hairline tho! No Tom, just no.

    • MtnRunner says:

It’s the way he’s wearing his hair. When he pushes it straight up it the hairline looks higher.

  4. Beth says:

Did he dye his hair darker? He looks good here.

  5. Gracie says:

    Happy Hiddles Friday, everyone! 🙂

    • MtnRunner says:

      Yes, our Friday Morning Man!

      • Gracie says:

Can we have a ‘my Toms for yours’ scheme? You send your Toms to me; I send mine to you from time to time? With all due respect to Lilac since she always supplied us with great drinks and snacks, there are plenty of Toms to go around.

      • MtnRunner says:

Gracie, you can have the one with the specs. I’ll take brick shithouse Tom, thank you very much.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Ahem–I believe you will find that during the mass “Toms-claiming” event several threads ago that *I* spotted an opening none of you had exploited, and claimed Charity!Tom! (#FeelingSmug)

      • 'P'enny says:

yes, I witnessed that. you did take Charity Tom.

        I had the rest…

      • MtnRunner says:

Have charity Tom all you want… I still get Naked Hiddles and Shakespeare Tom, which is plenty of Hotty McHotness for me.

    • Darya says:

Happy Friday everyone! It’s going to be a stellar weekend, I can already tell. My birthday is this weekend, I took today off from work just for the heck of it, the weather forecast here is sunny and nearly 60, and there are new Tom photos. Short of having a special-delivery Hiddleston air-dropped into my backyard, I’m not sure what more a girl could ask for.

  6. InvaderTak says:

Adorable. The glasses are cute too.

  7. Leah says:

Is that a quote from Blackadder on his t-shirt? My god, he is cute isn’t he? I love the brownish hair. Just put a baby in me already.

  8. **sighs** says:

I don’t like the glasses. Except when they’re in his mouth. He’s still adorable. Mmmmmmmm…..

    • Lilacflowers says:

They don’t seem to have any actual glass in them.

    • MtnRunner says:

Ditto. Not loving the glasses either. But anything around the mouth however as the power to charge up my lady bits.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

I’m not loving the glasses either, and his hair needs work, but I am still always happy to see him. And Blackadder rules.

    • Lilacflowers says:

The glasses seem to be part of the Red Nose Day promo. They don’t have lenses and many of the other people in the promo are playing with silly glasses

  9. Lilacflowers says:

In other Tom news, they have added to the cast of The Night Manager with Tom Hollander as Corcoran (didn’t imagine the character resembling him at all but it does work) and Olivia Coleman as Burr, a part that was originally written as male, so good on changing things up. An young Australian actress Elizabeth Debicki, who has done theater work with Cate Blanchett and actually resembles her, has been cast as Jed. She’s not how I imagined the character at all but we shall see.

And then there’s this, which happens in another week or so, narrated by Tom, and I’m dying to see it. https://www.digitaltheatreplus.com/news/bringing-the-bard-bang-up-to-date

    • MtnRunner says:

I wanna know who’s playing the Egyptian woman…

      • InvaderTak says:

We can only hope an actual Egyptian woman. They don’t seem to be shying away from unknowns so why not go for it?

        Thanks for the info Lilac!

      • Lilacflowers says:

You’re welcome, InvaderTak. They don’t seem to be shying away from unknowns or holding to canon that all spy bureaucrats have to be male so let’s hope they get Sophie right.

      • jammypants says:

        I vote Indira Varma

    • MtnRunner says:

And in other Digital Theatre news, Richard Armitage’s The Crucible will be available March 17!

    • 'P'enny says:

I still haven’t managed to finish the book, I found the writing style blatantly male and dull, so I am glad they are contemporising the storyline. I also very happy about tom Hollander and Olivia Coleman deservers every part she gets. She is lovely. When we saw those pics of Olivia and Tom Hiddleston together at the Bafta gala dinner I bet, they were having a right old gossip about.

The cast is really interesting, very charismatic and intelligent actors all round – except the lead female which seems a bit young?

      • Darya says:

@’P’enny – How old is Jed in the book? I’m only a few pages in and already it’s slow going. I’m glad I’m not the only one that’s underwhelmed by Le Carre’. I’ve tried and tried to acquire a taste for his writing and just can’t seem to get there. His plots and story lines are fine, it’s his writing style that kills it for me.

      • Lilacflowers says:

She’s actually about the same age as the character she’s playing. Not much experience yet but she’s getting parts in high profile projects

      • icerose says:

i loved the book and could not put it down and i just loved Pine’s character.

    • icerose says:

Jed (Debicki) is Jed-tall slim attractive blonde who fits the upper class public school image but lacks the rack.

  10. ell says:

he’s so pretentious, it even oozes out of his pictures

    • Naddie says:

Yeah, it gets to be hilarious, his pretentiousness.

    • Lolwut says:

      Your comment doesn’t make sense.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

He is definitely mugging for the camera and clowning around, but it is red nose day, no?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Yes, Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day and some of the others in the video are much hammier

      • ell says:

I guess, but I do find him quite affected at all times, and it does my head in.

      • jammypants says:

@ell, that’s totally fine. I find him really genuine, humble, really dorky, and even awkward sometimes. Perspective is a funny thing!

      • tigerlily says:

I think he is aware of the effect he has on people, how could he not be? I don’t feel that he is arrogant about it: it is what it is I believe in his mind. And my gosh he is a tease. My impression anyway. Personally I find him a total delight. I first saw him when hubby dragged me to Thor and I thought he was amazing and wasted in a comic book movie, even before I was aware of his penchant for Shakespeare I immediately thought he’d be smashing in any Shakespeare play. Then saw posts of him in dancing bear phase and again thought he was delightful, a refreshing change from the actors who are so precious about their “craft” and look down on promoting a dang movie. He just seems to naturally find the fun in situations. And finally, seeing him in the Hollow Crown, esp Henry V….I was just floored and went full Dragonfly at that point. Now I am looking every Friday for a Hiddles post. Seeing him working with one of my all time fave singer/songwriters Rodney Crowell just sealed the deal.

      • MtnRunner says:

tigerlily, I can’t wait until ISTL promotion begins and we get to hear stories about his time with Rodney. I get the impression that he time with Rodney and playing Hank made an indelible impression on him. I want that movie to turn out well so I’m simultaneously anxious and excited about the final product.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Yeah, cause giving your time and lending your celebrity to a GREAT cause (while wearing a Black Adder quote) is SOOO pretentious. I mean, all of those guys…Simon Pegg? Nick Frost? Andy Murray? Yeah, they’re all so pretentious, too.
      WTF???

      • ell says:

actually some of the people you mention are quite pretentious as well, like simon pegg is most certainly pretentious.

that’s not my point though, I think he’s pretentious in general, nothing to do with comic relief. I was just pointing out you can observe how up his own arse he is, even when you’re not meant to because he’s taking photos for charity.

      • jammypants says:

He’s so nice and harmless as a celeb, that his vanity bugs me so little.

      • MtnRunner says:

What jammy said. Women react strongly to Tom in person and on screen. He knows it and knows how to work that angle. His good manners, sweet disposition and charm lets me overlook any pretentiousness he has. He’d be a fun hang, I’m sure.

      • jammypants says:

        @mtn, don’t you mean fun bang? 😉

      • MtnRunner says:

There you go jammy, bringing my mind back down into the gutter. Yes, his hang and his bang are worthy of my T & A*.

        *Time and attention

(What did you think that stood for?)

      • jammypants says:

        Titillation and Angst 😉

      • MtnRunner says:

        *guffaw*

        That too, jammy.

    • icerose says:

well he is advertising for a charity and making it as much fun as he can and attract attention.
Pretentiousness is in the eye of the beholder so out of curiousity what is you definition of pretentious because there are many ways it can be slanted.

  11. Nicole says:

    He’s not hot.

    • seesittellsit says:

      lokismonstercrotch.com. Not hot? Get away!

    • Olenna says:

Normally, I would agree and that’s only because he is such an annoying look-at-me, I can do anything type guy. But, here..with the glasses and wild hair? Yes, he’s hot.

    • delorb says:

He looks better in this picture, but why is one arm bigger than the other? What on earth could have been doing with only one hand? The mind boggles. Plus, the glasses, while in style these days (Thanks Zachary Quinto, 2009), but they’re too big for his face.

      • 'P'enny says:

Welcome back Delorb, your antihiddles diatribe has been missed #sarcasm

      • MtnRunner says:

P’enny, you took the words outta my fingers! #hatersgonnahate

      • MtnRunner says:

Aren’t we missing one more anti-Hiddles poster? Betsy? Beth? I forgot her name.

      • 'P'enny says:

        We have ‘Ell’ now.

      • jammypants says:

Haha, Penny 😉 We used to have one called Abby but she disappeared even from her Cumby posts.

Well to answer your questions delorb. One arm is bigger than the other because it’s closer to the camera. Quite simple really. It’s called perspective. Nothing mind boggling.

The glasses also don’t have any lenses. They’re photo prop. Like sashes, silly hats, masks, and feather boas. Think, professional version of a photobooth.

  12. Stacie says:

Good gracious! What is it about guys in glasses that just takes their looks to the next level?

  13. Nya says:

    Meh.

  14. Betti says:

Having seen both Hiddles and Bitchybatch in person, its Hiddles all the way – he is soo sexy in the flesh.

    • Gracie says:

You have great taste, my dear.

    • MtnRunner says:

I can believe that. Dragonflies are prettier than Otters.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I’ve seen the one I didn’t want to see in person but can we not cloud a rare, nice Tom thread with talk of The Other?

      • icerose says:

@Lilac flowers This time I am with you. After all that has happened comparisons between two are just not relevant any more. They are two completely different species.

      • delorb says:

        @icerose

Wow!! You just can’t help yourself can you? Can’t stick with saying something nice about tom, without having a go a Benedict.

      • MtnRunner says:

Delorb, have you been drinking too many Comet Sophies? Where is the dig against Cumby?

      • jammypants says:

        “Species” LOL

    • Jenny says:

They both look very British – in like the bad stereotypical way. Team No One.

      • icerose says:

Neither are stereotypical any more that American actors who vary as much as UK actors.Yes they are well educated and articulate but so are some American actors and both countries have there share of pretty boy actors with minimal talent

    • jammypants says:

Ooo where did you see them? Needs more details 😉

    • Tiffany :) says:

I love reports from the front lines! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  15. Ratherbeme says:

So glad to see Olivia Coleman isn’t Sophie. I was trying to convince myself I could still watch even with the white washing.

And that first picture Tom looks unsettling like Bill Nighy.

    • MtnRunner says:

I read Olivia was pregnant. Is that true? Is she gonna go full Marge Gunderson?

    • **sighs** says:

      I love her. She’s fab in 2012.

      • MtnRunner says:

I enjoyed her Ellie Miller in Broadchurch.

      • icerose says:

i have mixed feelings about her because in some roles she just comes over as a dumb females stereo type and there were touches of it in Broadchurch but she does the whole emotional bit well

      • **sighs** says:

I like her because she’s very real. She melts into her roles.

      • icerose says:

@sighs perceptions are funny -I find her in interviews a bit cloying and she over does the I am an ordinary real person-look how dumb i can be
My all time intelligent working class northern actress who has strong political roots would be Maxine Peak.

    • TotallyBiased says:

If he ages like Bill Nighy, I’d be okay with that. Bill’s got some serious charm!

  16. seesittellsit says:

Be still my heart. More Hiddes less Bendy, please! please . . . . please?

    • Gracie says:

      Yes to that!

    • MtnRunner says:

The only way she’ll do that is if we stop commenting on Bendy posts and overcomment on Tom’s…

Back in 2013, Tom had the most commented post at 200-something. Ben’s Oscar PR engagement shenanigans have been topping that number since November.

      • seesittellsit says:

🙂 I will take your advice to heart – maybe after the baby that the loonies think is not actually in there arrives and THAT frenzy dies down we’ll get some peace and quiet from Bendy-Gate.

      • delorb says:

Oh it started way before then.

      • jammypants says:

I kind of prefer the odd Thomas post every Friday or so. Overkill did in my appreciation for the lizard. Less is more I say.

    Must need glasses to drive?

  18. I’ve had a thing for Hiddles since Wallander. He’s just gorgeous. Plus he’s smart and talented and sexy as hell. I second the more Tommy less Bendy motion. (I still like Bendy, but I think we’ve hit the saturation point there.)

  19. insomniac says:

I don’ t really think he’s hot, but the curls and the glasses definitely work for him.

  20. Kate says:

To all of you who don’t get it and don’t think TH is absolute SEX on legs, that’s ok.
There’s an orderly queue forming behind you of all of us shouting

    “10/10 WOULD BANG!”

(And maybe have a nice chat with him afterwards.)

    • 'P'enny says:

Not bothered about the chat Kate, unless he drops the Shakespeare and poetry.

      • Kate says:

‘P’enny…maybe he can tell you some of his notoriously stupid jokes, then…?

      • 'P'enny says:

I can listen to his impersonations for a while and his jokes, especially since he has a great habit of laughing manically in a sexy way.

      • MtnRunner says:

He can quote Tennessee Williams to me anytime.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Bang! followed by Tea and Biscuits, with a few hours of conversation? Yup, I’m up for that!

      • MtnRunner says:

Put THAT on repeat. All.Day.Long. Start it all over again the next morning.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Now there’s your perfect weekend sorted, eh? Though knowing you, m’dear, there’d have to be a good long run in there somewhere as well!

      • MtnRunner says:

Well, I suppose at some point we’d have to take a break and do something else. Chafing can be a bitch.

    • koko says:

I’m wondering now if the chat continues through or not and whether duct tape or some such thing is required during. 🙂

      • MtnRunner says:

Koko, if his loquaciousness gets to be too much, I’d suggest a using a ball gag, silk tie gag or better yet, giving his mouth something else to do. Use your imagination.

      • koko says:

Ty Mtrn, I will consider your suggestions when and if the opportunity presents itself. Perhaps spontaneity will be my friend, he seems like someone who would enjoy that.

      • icerose says:

I never tire of his chatter what ever form it takes but i di like to expand his horizons by challenging his concepts.

  21. MtnRunner says:

Don’t know when this was shot, but shouldn’t Tom be bulking up a bit for TNM? I am hoping for a return of the muscles.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Rumour has it (on the ‘nice’ Other blog, not the ‘Mean’ one) that he’s been seen out and about starting to fill up a bit. SOOO looking forward to that–I’ve always been a huge fan of the Magnus muscles, and Coriolanus was a treat 😉

      • 'P'enny says:

He should be doing his SAS training and shadowing some lucky night manager somewhere. Considering he spent time with an Estate agent for Exhibition he will be all SAS/army somewhere. ‘sloobbers’

      • TotallyBiased says:

Oh, ‘P’enny–shame on you! You are putting some IMAGES in my head!

      • Isadora says:

        This. Army training… hnnggh..

      • Lilacflowers says:

There’s more than one Tumblr blog now?

      • TotallyBiased says:

@Lilacflowers–the ‘nice’ Other blog is supposedly a neighbour of Tom’s (I know, I know!–but it’s fun) Ellesbelles seems to spend all her time over there now, since she got OVER Bendy and was going through Hiddles-deprivation here. It’s amusing enough and rarely descends to name calling back and forth among the anons ( 🙂 )
Then of course there’s still the Blog Which Shall Not Be Named.
True conspiracy theorists are evidently still convinced the two blogs are run by the same person.
        Bwah-wah-wah!

      • 'P'enny says:

There is the anti-evil-tumblr-blog for Hiddles now. It’s funny at times, i don’t engage, but i do look in and see what’s being said.

      • MtnRunner says:

TB, is that the one that references his postal code? I glanced at it — the chick running it seemed level-headed and wasn’t feeding the trolls or catering to the obsessive ones looking for gf confirmations.

      • pixie-stix says:

I wouldn’t mind having a read of that blog, any hint on name…

      • Lilacflowers says:

The neighbor thing sounds a bit creepy. The other one is just a bunch of childish mean girls who gleefully believe any negative nonsense spoon-fed to them by someone who has no proof of her claims.

      • TotallyBiased says:

pixie-stix, as MtnRunner mentioned, the ‘nice’ blog references Tom’s postal code. Sometimes there’s a lot of anons on the same (occasionally boring) subject to wade through but overall I enjoying catching up on it a few times a week.

      • MtnRunner says:

I just like Torrilla… pics and video only. And CB of course, for the humor and informative discussion.

I agree that the neighbor thing is weird. I remember her saying she isn’t in the fandom, but she runs a FAN BLOG where FANS can come and talk about Tom. Huh? What non-fan would spend that much time moderating the posts of a blog that’s bound to attract some nutballs? I don’t have any problem with people creating a space for fans to chat, but she should just own it.

My only other beef was the name dropping of the place where he hangs out when in the neighborhood. Like that isn’t going to attract stalkers…

      • Isadora says:

To be fair: people have been have been mentioning that place since datalounge times iirc and there are quite a few old fan photos around that were taken there…

But generally I agree, every such blog – benign or not – will probably only feed the frenzy.

      • Darya says:

IMO, there’s something “off” about both those blogs. And I’m not even sure the ultimate goal of either one is to gossip about Tom, he’s just the bait – the real goal feels like a twisted way of garnering more attention for themselves. It seems to make no difference if that attention is positive or negative.

At first they were bosom chums, linking and reposting each others content but that quickly degenerated into snide comments and not-so-veiled insults and contributors running back to forth to share the most recent slight. It’s all very Mean Girls. And even if one blogger pays lip-service to being above all the drama, they aren’t really – they still post all the hostile comments and insults and add their witty comebacks about how they really don’t care what people think. Umm, that’s not rising above it, that’s just feeding the cycle further. It’s entertaining, in a weird sort of way, but I don’t believe a word either one of them prints.

      • M.A.F. says:

There’s a nice one? Which one is that?

Edit: I know which blog you people speak of. The person who runs the blog sounds like a stalker not a neighbor.

      • MtnRunner says:

Darya, that was the other thing I didn’t like about it. There was the constant back and forth with that awful other blog and it was distasteful. Also the anons get into it too with each other. If ALL the posters were like the ones here on CB, I probably would have followed it. I like the overall atmosphere here much more.

I figure that if there’s anything newsworthy that pops up over there (or anywhere else), someone will post here too, amiright?

Isadora, not surprised IMDB mentioned it but I wouldn’t have known the name without seeing it on the blog. Every time they post the name of the place or that TH was there that day it increases the chance that someone’s going to start stalking him. So I do think they contribute to the problem.

      • Darya says:

Don’t forget the man himself followed the coffee place on Twitter ages ago. Not exactly the thing to do if you want to keep your favorite haunt a secret. At the time I’m sure it wasn’t an issue, but that particular privacy ship sailed long ago.

Maybe he’s not as frequent a customer as folks think, he certainly wasn’t around much in 2014. I’m the opposite, I’m at my local Starbucks at the same time every morning. I don’t even have to speak, the cashier points at a cup, and I nod. That’s about all the social interaction I can manage before my morning caffeine kicks in.

@mtnrunner – there really is no other place quite like the CB comments section, especially on the Hiddles posts. I keep coming back purely for the folks that post here.

      • MtnRunner says:

Don’t even get me started on how people stalk him on Twitter… ugh. I enjoy his performances and interviews but I can’t imagine tracking who he follows/unfollows and then applying the same sleuthing to women he’s been spotted with. It creeps me out.

I’m sure he knows by now that every time he follows/unfollows another twitter account, there are some seriously overinvested fans that will track it and analyze it TO DEATH. I understand the natural curiosity to learn more about him through twitter, but I wish he’d close his account and let Luke post charity / work-related posts on his behalf, just to discourage the obsessed fans.

      • Darya says:

The Twitter forensics were a shocker for me too. I didn’t realize people gave that much time and effort to it until the Bora Bora kerfuffle. Curiosity is one thing, I’ve got it too- but trying to decipher intimate details about someone’s life based on who and when they followed, unfollowed, or never-followed is above and beyond.

I’m with you, glad he’s backed away from it (I do miss the songs of the day though), and I think it was a wise choice. No matter how much a celeb gives, some fans would always want more. Look how Tom’s followers are still pleading with him to engage, and it’s been forever since something even remotely personal was tweeted or replied to. I wish they’d let it go already – it’s probably never going to happen.

    • Gracie says:

      • MtnRunner says:

I protested the Bendy post by NOT POSTING ANYTHING!

And celebrated this one with this extra non-related post for Hiddles!

His look, his attitude–a broad spectrum of Toms to choose from (or not *choose*, if you’re greedy like SOME of us *cough*Lilacflowers*cough*)
Oooo…….nearly forgot: watch his PBS vid on Delayed Gratification with the Cookie Monster, and then watch his Hall H/SDCC 2013 appearance as Loki. Hehehehehehe…………..

I second the Cookie Monster and Thor The Dark World promo with the kids (cute! cute!), his famous 2013 Comic Con appearance, and add the Times Madrid talk, Nerd HQ interview and Loki: Brother of Thor movie (if you only watch Thor for Loki).

And the Red Necklace audiobook on YouTube. He brings the story alive.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Oh, I know Tee Jay. If you were borderline, that alone should sprout your Dragonfly wings RIGHT up 😉
After you’ve heard his voice often enough, you will read interviews with him and ‘hear’ them in his voice. It’s a lovely bonus.

  30. EN says:

Meh, the same group of people dissing Cumberbatch are falling all over themselves over Tom.
TH and BC are close friends and it stands to reason that their views are rather alike. They both strike me as intellectual snobs, which is fine by me, I like refined men.
I just don’t get why people love TH and hate BC, it seems strange? Unless they only like TH for his looks.

    • jammypants says:

I think people flip flop. Only 2 years ago, Tom was getting all the hate and Ben all the love. It goes in cycles. And I would disagree on them being alike. I find them both quite different. On the surface they seem similar.

    • MtnRunner says:

I don’t think they’re the alike except that they’re well educated, talkative, charming and British. Their personalities are different and they react differently in the same situations. I have no problem taking any of my favorite actors to task on something; it just happens that Tom isn’t doing anything that warrants it. Like Ben, Tom’s personality, charm and dorkiness wins people over, even if those people don’t find them particularly attractive.

    • TotallyBiased says:

EN–same people? You have NOT really been paying attention. Yes, some folk have gone through cycles in their feelings towards out Dragonfly King–Kaiser being a PRIME example. And some folk have thrown in their Cumbertowels completely due to how they view recent antics.
But there are just as many who, like me, have been Hiddles-loyalists from day one. We ‘suffered’ through the teasing, the ‘try-hard’ put-downs, the goofy nicknames–even the (inaccurate to our eyes) accusations that THiddy was a Cumby-wannabe, imitating his every move. We didn’t lust for the Otter, though some of us admitted he had talent and even charisma in the right role (Sherlock, anyone?)
Now, well, perhaps the worm has turned. It *is* difficult, after the last several years of being the underdog (as it were) to do a little nose-thumbing, but I think by and large we are avoiding that. Not entirely, but mostly.
The key thing is getting to enjoy our Dragonfly moment without thought of the ‘Other Guy’ spoiling it. We are going to REVEL in the love for the man WE’VE always appreciated (though most are honest re his faults)
And if we see them as completely different people, well, it isn’t like they haven’t given us enough material to work with. If they think the same way, one or both have been hiding it well!

      • TotallyBiased says:

Sigh…wouldn’t let me fix…I should know better than to try such a large post. The idea is that SO many of us in here really didn’t care all that much about the Other Guy, we were just sick of the unwarranted and inaccurate ‘comparisons’ that always seemed designed to make Sir BC look good at the expense of our fine man.

      • Darya says:

The Tom-bashing really was hard to take, and I think we’ve shown remarkable restraint by not thumbing our noses (too much anyway) at the hard-core BC fans when they’re in the midst of an existential crisis. That being said, I have to say I am over the moon about how Tom’s choices and hard work are finally starting to pay dividends. I’d like to see any comparisons of their career paths or life choices finally die a quiet death. Both are fine actors with many years of good work ahead of them, neither needs to be torn down to build the other up.

      • TotallyBiased says:

YES to EVERYTHING you stated here, Darya.

      • MtnRunner says:

Comparisons are hard to avoid when some of us started on the Cumby train last year (I discovered Sherlock early 2014, CB in the fall) and migrating over to the Hiddles camp by year end after hearing so much about him on the Cumby threads. Ben’s PR shenanigans made it easy to jump ship. I still think he’s a good actor, given the right role, but I think Tom’s a better actor with a greater range.

Reading the old posts, I do think people overreacted to Tom’s PR antics 2012-2013. He was an unknown Brit thrust into international fame and seemed to be loving every minute of it. He couldn’t hide his enthusiasm. If that’s the worst thing people say about him, well that’s not so bad really. He’s never acted like a dick publicly and that’s what matters most to me when it comes to his PR.

    • MtnRunner says:

icerose needs to weigh in on this. She’s an astute apologist when it comes to anything Hiddles.

      Well said, TB. *claps*

      • TotallyBiased says:

Thank you ever so, MtnRunner–it’s riddled with errors, but cold meds and long posts are never a good combination! As long as it gets the idea across.

    • Lilacflowers says:

“Meh, the same group of people dissing Cumberbatch are falling all over themselves over Tom.
TH and BC are close friends and it stands to reason that their views are rather alike. They both strike me as intellectual snobs, which is fine by me, I like refined men.
I just don’t get why people love TH and hate BC, it seems strange? Unless they only like TH for his looks. ”

Well, looks are a thing, aren’t they? And BC’s look do absolutely nothing for me. His voice also does absolutely nothing for me as I am seized with the urge to scream: “clear your throat and STOP that annoying mumbling” every time I hear it. The men are not interchangeable, and no, just because two people are friends most certainly does not mean they share the same views on all things. I am careful not to diss Cumberbatch on any threads. I see no need. I do have fun with the other commentators about other topics, like beverages and comets.

When I first started posting on CB, every time there was a BC thread, his fans would rush to gush over him but for some reason, they would tear down other actors, usually Tom, to build BC up. I would post on those threads to correct some of the bizarre misinformation. When a Tom thread appeared, those same BC fans would rush it to criticize Tom and compare him unfavorably to BC. Typical disses: “He only has Shakespeare and Loki. BC has a more diverse career. He’s copying BC. He only can get BC reject projects. BC would NEVER stoop to do a comic book character.” Ahem. Things have wonderfully changed.

The two men are NOT interchangeable and I find it extremely tiresome that people bring BC up on every single Tom thread and I’m tired of people insisting that I justify why I prefer the actor whom I consider more-talented, better-looking, and a nicer person over the other, who simply does nothing for me.

      • jammypants says:

It didn’t help that at the time, every time a Tommy thread got made, the opening post always pitted him against Cumbersome, saying he’s a copycat (when he’s not) and claiming Cumbersome is still better forever always. That would lead into nasty comments following. Cumbersome never got accused of it, the year following when he did literally everything Tom did the year before.

You’re right though. I think Tom is also more-talented, better-looking, and a nicer person over the other. He also has a lot more grace and tact.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Well, everything plus. Tom always seemed to know the difference between a serious red carpet, like the Evening Standard or Oliviers and the premiere of a comic book movie, like TDW, and behaved accordingly. No photo-bombing like a bouncing Tigger at serious events and no blaming his actions on others – such as: “it’s Ellen’s fault I photobombed U2 because she gave us all vodka.” As if one is not responsible for how much vodka one consumes. And then, there was always how Tom was “copying”, like the Muppets, and The Hollow Crown, and the lead in a Shakespeare play, and a Marvel contract, all of which he did first.

      • jammypants says:

I might be pushing my opinion a bit, but I find Tom makes amazing career choices. His roles have been very diverse. High-Rise is completely bonkers. The Night Manager will be really fun. I Saw the Light, whether it succeeds or fails, was a huge effort to stretch himself. The character is nothing like Tom. The cast for all his films have been great. I don’t think he makes too many safe choices. He goes into his next project with huge ambition, even if the budget or production is small. He doesn’t go in with a HUGE ego unlike someone. I eyerolled pretty hard when Ben took on yet another Oscar baity role in Black Mass. Then doing Hamlet at the height of his career is the biggest ego rubbing I’ve seen from an upcoming actor. Ben tries to come off as humble but fails massively. I still enjoy Ben’s acting (when it’s not affected), but his appeal kind of died for me the past year.

I feel like this past year, this is Ben:

For Tom, going back to stage in a small venue to do a lesser known play was balls-y to me. Same thing with literally cosplaying his most famous character at a huge geek convention. He didn’t care at all that his love of the character can be viewed as embarrassing. I love his dorkitude at writing his lines for the Comic Con stunt. He is always gracious to everyone, no matter how small or insignificant they are/feel. He also has the guts to tell people to cool it in a respectful manner (IM3 premiere and that radio show where they objectified Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johannson) . He gives his opinions where needed and stays neutral on most topics. He’s notoriously private, so it’s easy to digest just his characters and his public image. He has amazing work ethic. He’s great at interviews, giving in depth, thoughtful responses about his experiences with work or the knowledge he’s gained from those experiences. He’s genuine and kind (how some people see him as up his own arse is their opinion but it’s not how he comes across to the general public). I do think he IS special for those reasons. He’s refreshing and exciting. To me he’s “cool” because he cares. He doesn’t act like he’s above anything. For a guy who came from a good well off home, he’s extremely gracious and thoughtful and willing to learn. I just find him the complete opposite of Blatch.

      • MaddieH says:

And I call another turn of the tide once Tom gets more exposure with so many films coming next couple of years. Add him inevitably getting married – it’s going to be epic.

      • Isadora says:

@MaddieH: I think you are right. Some Cumberbatch fans see Tom as their new boy because he had a rather quiet year and nobody knows anything about his private life these days. It will change again when he does more promo and when he will have a change in circumstances (gf, wife, whatever). But in the end it’s always like that, a lot of fans (in general) have a certain time and place for someone and move on to the next one when they feel the initial magic has worn off. That’s okay and they will find another fresh and charming actor.
The question will be if Tom can build a fanbase that really appreciates his acting skills and is therefore sustainable – apart from hotness, relationship status or PR campaigns.

I’ve been one of the fans that never was interested in Cumberbatch. I like Sherlock, it’s interesting to see where his career path leads him, but that’s about it. But even though Cumberbatch isn’t hot or particularly charming to me, I stand behind the statement that fans shouldn’t pitch these two against each other. There will always be times when the career of one guy is in a better state than the career of the other. It happens. I don’t think pointing out either way will help them. Their personalities are different and that’s okay too. In the end, bad-mouthing one actor won’t help the other one.

      • **sighs** says:

The only bone I have to pick with you, lilac, was the MTV awards where he gave that ridiculous speech. That was his only misstep, though, as far as events that I can remember.
Otherwise, I agree with all you lovely ladies.

      • Darya says:

+1 to everything you said @Jammy. Coriolanus struck me as both balls-y and an incredibly shrewd career move. Sure it gave him a chance to immerse himself in Shakespeare, but it was also a 3 month audition/showcase for potential employers, it gave loads of industry folks a chance to see him in a different light. Up until then, he was mostly known as Loki and for some small supporting roles in a few (albeit top-tier) films.

He is special, but I’m also sure there will be a moment when he does something that makes me truly wince/cringe – an off performance, a badly timed case of foot-in-mouth, too much dancing bear schtick. It’s inevitable, no one is immune from an occasional mis-step. I’m just hoping his fans (me included) aren’t expecting an impossible-to-maintain level of excellence or perfection. That never ends well.

      • Anne tommy says:

Epic posts Lilac and jammy, encapsulates the whole Hiddles situation for me. I don’t hate bendy at all, good actor, have scrolled quickly thru the enormous thereads about him, but he’s not Tom.

      • jammypants says:

@Darya, I will forever respect him for doing Coriolanus. We learned from his Nuffield private Q&A that he turned down roles to do this play right at the time where people expected him to hop onto the next big thing after Loki and for hardly any money at all. That’s when you just know he really and truly loves acting. I love that he did Nuffield btw. It was pure actor’s craft and small, no press and just about the art. Even the announcement about that event was so small if it weren’t for fans spreading about it like wildfire 😛 This was after Loki and Marvel motions, then doing an intense play, then filming back to back to back and doing hardly any red carpet at all. This guy has his head and heart in the right place. Even after all that, he’s still private and really gracious and sweet.

@Anne tommy, same, I don’t hate Ben. I do actually like him despite my criticisms. I just find comparisons with him to Tom so silly. They’re not alike.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Now I’ve lost track of precisely who said it, but yeah the pick on Tom years were a bit harsh/over the top on occasion. I do think most of the threads were lit with humour, and he was an easy target–it just seemed like it was too easy for some posters to take it seriously, and hold him to some impossible standards largely (as near as I can tell) because such a high % of his fans on Tumblr appeared to worship him so. Meh–*I’d* be more inclined to poke fun at foolish fans, but whatever.

@**sighs** I get what you’re feeling re the MTV awards, but have always felt that we were not his target audience for that speech. That pretty much no-one who posts on Celebitchy would be considered part of that target audience.

@jammy I so wish I could have made it to the Nuffield event, but the reports afterwards have coalesced into a nice package of relatively new material. I learned things I didn’t know, and that’s what you want from that sort of Q & A. Really looking forward to the day he’s considered worthwhile for an Actor’s Studio gig.

      • Darya says:

@jammy, I envy you being at Nuffield. I would have loved to hear Tom talking about theatre and the craft of acting, it’s obvious he has such passion for both. Too bad some attendees thought it was going to be NerdHQ pt 2, they missed the point entirely and I would have gladly taken their place.

Marvel came at the perfect place in his career. It launched him into the spotlight and gave him a steady paycheck and fan base, and he’s able to use all that as leverage for other projects he probably would have never been considered for if he’d been just another unknown British actor making the rounds. And I admire that he’s not afraid to takes risks or do the unexpected thing.

      • jammypants says:

@Darya, oh no I didn’t get to go. I live in the US :p Icerose was kind enough to write a report on it from her daughter’s notes. It was good read!

      • Darya says:

Sorry Jammy. I think I knew you were stateside – just had a momentary brain fart. And yes, Icerose’s write up’s were a good read.

      • MtnRunner says:

Can I just say how happy I am that you all are the main posters on Tommy’s posts now?? YOU ARE MY PEOPLE.

I second the comments about Tom being willing to take risks and that he did Coriolanus. Also, those in the UK have said that Tom doesn’t really have any sh*t on his CV. Since I can only watch what’s available to me here in the US, I’ll take their word on it that the rest of his CV lacks any “Night of the Living Dead” type crap.

I think he’s a better actor and a nicer guy than BC and I have yet to see him in anything I didn’t enjoy. Simple as that. It isn’t a knee-jerk reaction based on who is poised for a big break, tho’ BC antics did play a part in getting me to check out TH’s work when I wanted to check out other actors. While I may enjoy BC performances in the future, he’ll never be ranked higher than Tom in my mind.

Woah… I don’t know what happened with the above posts.

        Sorry y’all… It posted straightaway!

      • Lilacflowers says:

@*sighs*, as cringeworthy as the MTV thing may have been, it was still MTV, not the Oliviers or the BAFTAS and it was for a comic-book role and it got far less exposure than anything that happens on an Oscar ceremony red carpet.

    • Intro Outro says:

@EN: “Meh, the same group of people dissing Cumberbatch are falling all over themselves over Tom.”

Not true. I have been watching the Cumberbatch train wreck from the very beginning until I got so bored I left CB. Quite a big number of people who got disappointed in him had never been interested in Hiddleston. You can go back and read Cumberbatch posts from previous autumn and see for yourself.

      • TotallyBiased says:

        Innie Outie!!
Long time no see! Tell the truth–was it the glasses or the Black Adder quote that lured you back?

      • Intro Outro says:

Ehehehe, I have been popping in and out pretty regularly, just don’t feel any real desire to take part in the discussions ^_^ But I am very glad that you ladies are going strong and all! 😀

Very much looking forward to High Rise and TNM and everything Hiddles that this year has got in store for us!

      • TotallyBiased says:

Rather think this is a tidal wave after feeling dammed up for a while. Our Quiet Man has been so, well, quiet. Which isn’t necessarily the Hiddles some know and love, but hey. Recent exposures have been just enough to keep people motivated, methinks!
And yes, it is going to be a good year for watching the Hiddles–eventually!

      • MtnRunner says:

These periodic posts feel like foreplay. Little teasers and build ups to get us excited for the big PR PUSH to come with long print interviews, adorkable videos and the return of the Dancing Bear!

The Nuffield reports were the most satisfying thing we’ve had in months. *le sigh.*

      • Lilacflowers says:

“Quite a big number of people who got disappointed in him had never been interested in Hiddleston.” So very true, IntroOutro. And some of us who have always been interested in Tom were never interested in Cumberbatch.

      • MtnRunner says:

“Quite a big number of people who got disappointed in him had never been interested in Hiddleston.”

I don’t what the issue is. Some of us weren’t interested in Hiddles because we didn’t know anything about him. Every actor I’ve become familiar with and a fan of in past year (TH and several others) was discussed on a Cumby post. I became intrigued enough to check out their work and in Hiddles case, I became a bigger admirer of him and his work.

      • Darya says:

Don’t worry @mtnrunner (and anyone else for that matter) all are welcome to enjoy the Hiddlesverse. Doesn’t matter a wit to me how people get here. All that’s required is a good sense of humor, a rational (mostly) thought process and an open mind. I was given a hearty welcome even though I was somewhat late to the party too.

      • Intro Outro says:

@MtnRunner: oh dear, I didn’t mean it as anything negative. It was a mere factual statement on my part. As Darya says – it doesn’t matter how people find out about Hiddleston ^_^ I was only responding to EN’s original claim that the same people who are dissing Cumberbatch are falling all over Hiddleston.

      • MtnRunner says:

No worries Intro Outro. I didn’t even know who had posted the comment tbh. I probably assumed it was EN. It was more about the fact that other actors get discussed in the comments, and that’s what sparked my interest in checking out Hiddles work. When I first discovered CB last year (after discovering Sherlock) I went back and read all of the Cumby posts and comments which were both hilarious and informative for someone out of the loop like me. I have a narrow attention span and can only follow a few actors closely at a time. Once the Cumby posts were no longer “fun” last fall, I was looking for another actor to check out and Hiddles was the obvious choice to start with. And the rest is history…

Probably what I should have said it that it doesn’t really matter if some people (like me) were fed up with Cumby and turned their attention to Hiddles. I’m just glad I had a reason to snoop around someone else’s CV, because I enjoy Hiddles work on the whole a lot more.

      • Darya says:

@Intro (or as @TeeBee says, Innie Outie!) – I’m so glad you’ve broken your self-imposed exile for a brief visit. Please don’t be shy, you (and your comments) were part of what I found so fun when I first started visiting CB, and one of the reasons I went from lurker to commenter. 😘

I’m the opposite of @mtnrunner, I only knew about Cumby because of his bleed-through into Tom’s comments. I found him great fun to watch in Sherlock, but that’s about as far as it goes. And it was fun for a while to drop in and offer the occasional snarky comment during his recent escapades, but I quickly came scurrying back over here.

What bothered me most I suppose was the implication from some commenters that I was somehow “less than” because I didn’t know his CV in detail over the entirety of his career and their opinion held more weight than mine because they could tell me where on the globe he was on any given day in the last 3 years. Phooey on that nonsense. I’ve got no problem if someone points out if I have my facts wrong, but when they preface it with, “if you’d been paying more attention” or some such, I’m going to get cranky.

All of that is a long-winded way of saying that I enjoy hearing from anyone and everyone, as long as things stay civil. If we all agree it’s going to get boring. Plus, if a lot of different people comment, the likelier it is there will be more Hiddles articles. And that is something I fully endorse.

      • MtnRunner says:

I fully endorse the variety of perspectives as long as people are civil. If I was interested in squeeing over Tom, I’d engage on the social media sites that cater to that part of the fandom. I really enjoy discussing an actor’s work and the comment sections have been incredibly informative and engaging here.

    • icerose says:

flip and flop.Tommy is much softer version and despite his schooling i feel his family our much less embroiled in the whole London acting world.
I worked for a trust in Oxford and his dad’s company was one of the more ethical medical companies supporting out consultants in valuable research.
He also has a reputation for being exceptional polite and caring and although I am sure he must vent his frustration at time he never resorts to name calling or making unfavourable comments about other shows to boost the publicity for his own.And although he takes his work seriously I get he feeling he does not take himself to seriously.

      • pixie-stix says:

@icerose, I think Tom has said that about himself…Alan Rickman said very similar, “I do take my work seriously and the way to do that is not to take yourself too seriously”. 😊
BTW, thanks for writing up the Nuffield talk, much appreciated.

  31. TotallyBiased says:

I cannot determine if we were blessed with Hiddle-Guy Friday because SO MANY outlets are giving him SO MUCH attention for his 4 seconds or so (and no spoken lines) in the Red Nose Shirt video, or if this Celebitchy post was the spur of the wave. But boyoboy you can get a gif of every millisec out there–Just Jared, HitFix, they’re all spreading Red Nose Cheer!

    • et alors says:

I’m going to take credit for being the catalyst, TotallyBiased, since I posted the video on the Branagh thread the day before Kaiser posted this article. 😉

I’m joking, but I *was* surprised and pleased that Kaiser wrote about this. I don’t think there was, in terms of actual media content and not Tumblr gifs, much to go on other than the Digital Spy article that had the video and one mention of Tom lumped in with the other celebrities being photographed. After Celebitchy came HitFix and then Just Jared. I’m disappointed no other media outlets have picked up the story, though. If you go to Just Jared’s Facebook page, their Tom post has over 34K likes, with the closest one in likes in recent months being a Nicholas Hoult post with about 1500 likes, I think.

      • TotallyBiased says:

et alors –I also tried to post a link, to the Conde Nast gallery with Tom’s official shot. I’ve seen that linked to all over the place, though admittedly on lesser known, online-only sites (as opposed to those who have some tv or print association.)
Bustle and PopSugar have also covered it, and the HitFix text/pics have been reposted quite a bit (NO I’m not referring to Tumblr!)
LOTS of twitter activity among entertainment journalists on this one as well.

I am a bit surprised Perez Hilton hasn’t been all over this yet–I guess Tom’s jeans aren’t revealing enough this time 😉
Also suprising to me that he isn’t popping up more at online sites of UK print media, given what I thought was the strong support for Red Nose Day. Perhaps we’ll see more as the actual day gets closer.

In any case he’s done his job–that particular shirt is getting harder and harder to find, and even at the online shop they’re out of 40% of the sizes!

  32. TotallyBiased says:

    Wheeeee!
I have a Cunning Plan shirt! I have a Cunning Plan shirt!
    This week’s ‘next-best-thing’ to Tom 😉
Otherwise known as ‘as close as I’ll ever get’!

    • Darya says:

Congrats @TeeBee, that shirt really is the best one of the bunch (and not just ‘cuz Tom wore it)!

I had my own ‘close as I’ll ever get’ moment yesterday. I stumbled across a Leica camera store, I never knew I was 20 minutes from one of only 6 stores they have in the states. The clerk took pity on me and let me play around with it a little. It’s the same (or very similar) camera Tom was toting around during his Capa research (still bummed that project died btw -seeing his hands work a camera would have done unspeakable things to my delicate psyche). Since the retail price of the camera and basic lens is roughly the price of a black market kidney, it’s about as close as I’ll get to the camera and/or Tom.
      I enjoyed it immensely.

      • Isadora says:

Oh yes, those Leica prices are insane!

      • TotallyBiased says:

Oh, Darya! I STILL haven’t gotten over Close Enough. I wanted (and still want) him to make that movie more than anything else–and def with Hayley Atwell. I think they have great chemistry together, and could have communicated so much on screen. They both have a way of making period pieces seem timeless, if that makes sense.

      • jammypants says:

I’m still not over Black Wings Has My Angel.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Jammy — I’m not attracted to the idea of him and Anna Paquin. I feel like it would be a repeat of Deep Blue Sea, where it seemed like he worked so hard to connect with Rachel W(who is an actress I am usually so impressed by) but (with the exception of a few scenes) she never stopped ‘acting’ long enough to have honest chemistry with him.

Don’t want to see BWhmA unless they find a different female lead. Also–I somehow feel like that ship has sailed…with OLLA, IStL, and HighRise he has covered the elements/experiences that Black Wings would have brought him.

Yes, Close Enough would be another biopic, but I think he would have new areas to explore his range in it. Wish I was more articulate here, but that’s the best I’ve got!

      • icerose says:

yes Close Enough was a big disappointment but hold on to the gems yet to come.

      • Isadora says:

I’m with jammypants – I think BWhmA would have been interesting. Not thrilled about Paquin, but apart from that I think it would have been nice to see him play a gritty crime story. I haven’t read the novel but from the wikipedia summary I don’t see a resemblence to other films he made. It’s rather a twisted Bonnie and Clyde tale, isn’t it? Or where are the similarities to TDBS, OLLA or High-Rise?

      • jammypants says:

@Isadora, I’ve read it. It’s like Bonnie and Clyde, but it’s also REALLY messed up. I love the two protagonists’ relationship. It’s actually really funny.

    Article on possibilites for Cannes
“Amost certain to land somewhere in Cannes is Ben Wheatley’s thriller High-Rise, an adaptation of the 1975 J.G. Ballard novel about ferocious class conflicts that develop among the inhabitants of a high-rise apartment building. It stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, Luke Evans and Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss.

    • TotallyBiased says:

      That sounds promising!

    • 'P'enny says:

i really hope High Rise is accepted at Cannes. That is if Ben submits it. But, there should be some clue by now, a clip even, and there isn’t it and this leads me to think they are planning some big launch at a film festival. Apart from Empire mag, no one has had a peep and i have only seen one person tweet about footage. It’s so tightly under wraps, and is it because it’s so awful and needs a lot of editing or it’s very risky and good that they going for a ‘ta-da’ moment. OLLA was a last minute /last day submission at Cannes and Tom and Tilda made that last day pretty sparkling. Same strategy? after all its same the producer!

  35. Isadora says:

@icerose: I really hope they are right about Cannes!

  36. TotallyBiased says:

THIS is why I swoop over to the postal code Tumblr every now and then. I ignore or flense out the stupid stuff, and get a giggle from anon posts like this one:
“Cologne Anon: Evening! I have a confession. Despite having got the Comic Relief Oscar Wilde T-shirt, I went back to TKMaxx for the ‘Tom/Baldrick’ one. I took it to the checkout. The cashier looks at the t-shirt. The lady standing next to me at the next till looks at the t-shirt (she’s buying the same one). The cashier looks at both of us and says ‘Tom Hiddleston?’ Everyone nods. Aah, the power of The Hiddles. “

Didn’t del Toro say that he’d be there with Tom or am I just imagining that?

      • Lilacflowers says:

Crimson Peak is produced by Legendary and GDT said they would be at the Legendary panel. Marvel may be skipping SDCC because Disney is doing a big convention a week or two later and Marvel is a Disney company.

    • 'P'enny says:

wow! maybe they realise its going to be all Star Wars and not worth the expense I thought they would be plugging Civil War and Dr Strange, but if Bendy is a no show and Spidey stuff is not ready then it might not be worth it.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Has anyone other than James Gunn commented on this? Like an actual MCU executive?

  38. Darya says:

That’s interesting – you’d think Civil War and Strange would have merited something. So is the Batman/Superman movie going to be ready? That’s the only other headline comic/sci-fi flick that comes to mind (not including Crimson Peak, that one goes without saying).

  39. TotallyBiased says:

Looks like the Hiddles-quotes are back up on this page–also, Hollow Crown Fans posted a notice that the short film Tom has narrated (Henry V done by youngsters, for youngsters) will be available to watch for free from March 16 to April 23.
    https://www.digitaltheatreplus.com/news/bringing-the-bard-bang-up-to-date
UK schools can also register for a watch along w/special extra resources and a post film Q & A with the people who made it (not including Tom, though, I shouldn’t wonder)

  40. TotallyBiased says:

I don’t know what to think about the rumoured High Rise trailer, um, ‘exposure’. It certainly is in line with the book. If true, methinks this will be VERY well received in Cannes!

I went to a premiere of A Little Chaos and Q & A w/Alan Rickman last night. The interviewer commented on his distinctive voice and manner of speaking – Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston have done imitations of you. There was a pause and Mr. Rickman replied, Who are they? 😉

BTW, I enjoyed A Little Chaos (if Alan Rickman’s involved, I’m going). I knew Kate Winslet starred, but a got a lovely surprise to see Helen McCrory and Jennifer Ehle.
