Ryan Phillippe is still dirty hot, I know. Many of us have some lingering Cruel Intentions nostalgia no matter how we try to bury those memories. Ryan’s promoting the first season of Secrets and Lies and evokes his younger self in his latest interview. Dude says people keep carding him in clubs, but don’t be fooled. What he’s really trying to say is this: “I still go to clubs, so I’m cool.” I’m guessing the bartenders card him because — as in many establishments — there’s a laminated policy to card anyone who could be mistaken for under 40.
Does Ryan pass for under 40? Sure, maybe 35. But he doesn’t look 20 as he suggests when claiming people mistake him for his daughter’s brother. He keeps bringing Ava into interviews. Ryan mentioned his depression last month and referenced Ava’s similar sensitivity. That was kind of a douche-dad move. Leave Ava alone. She’s a teenager and has enough growing pains already without Dad mentioning her emotional state to the press. We don’t have any recent shots of Ava & Ryan together that are newer than 2012. That’s okay, the pics aren’t important. The gist of this story is that Ava is 15, and Ryan thinks he can pass for a 20-year-old bro. Some excerpts:
Being a sex symbol at a young age: “Things were really not that hard back then. They were uncomplicated, compared to now. That was sort of the end of my innocence. I made Cruel Intentions when I was 23, and I did I Know What You Did Last Summer when I was 21 or 22, so that was like the end of my youth, because I went straight into marriage and kids.
On his latest role: “As an actor or artist, the richer and more complex our lives become, the performances get that way, too, and Secrets and Lies is as complicated as a drama can get. It’s Shakespeare-heavy. Playing a father whose life is being torn apart — my younger self could not relate to any of those things, but I do, very, very much, at my age now.”
On being 40: “It’s crazy. And still, I get carded constantly. My daughter hates it, because sometimes people have thought I’m her brother, and she’s freaked out by that.”
On the I Know What You Did Last Summer remake: “Oh, come on! No. I think it’s a good idea. I’m excited about it. It just makes me feel old.”

Ryan’s 40 years old now and (perhaps unconsciously) feels the need to humblebrag. I get it. Gwyneth Paltrow has destroyed the humblebragging pleasure for everyone, and Ryan may not be up on Goopster gossip. But he’s still doing the deed. I feel for Ryan because he mentions feeling “old” when the journo brings up a remake to one of his more prominent films. He’ll be fine. He may be dating a 23-year old (Paulina Slagter), but he’s feeling his mortality. It happens.

I’ll give him 30. He does look great, but not that great. He has a baby face for sure though.
I think he could pass for 30 as well. I have met people in their 20s who look older than Phillippe. It depends on genetics and how one acts, how one dresses him/herself, or how much make up she wears. He dresses like an immature punk so I think that has helped him look younger than 40.
I think he looks young. I could see him in a dark entrance way to a nightclub the person thinking him early twenties.
He’s also so, so SO short. I mean, TINY. Like, even for an actor.
I looked up his height and it says, 5’9″ on Google so they are likely being generous.
Yep. He could definitely pass for 30 but 20? Please.
He does not look 20. He looks like an old cute guy. You know like Mickey Rooney.
Lol
you win
Haha, I bet that’s what he’s going for.
Exactly, denisemich, EXACTLY. And honestly, *cute* does not float my boat anyway, as far as men are concerned. I really don’t get the whole Ryan Phillippe thing.
My opinion of him – looks, personality, ego, and the outrageous outing of his daughter’s personal and tender issues is:
Ugh.
Just ugh.
Now and forever, ugh.
he got carded just to make sure that he’s really Ryan Phillippe? because no one recognize him anymore?
I wouldn’t know it was him until I would card him
The problem with claiming he gets carded is that he’s also pretty much saying that he’s not famous anymore. Not such a successful humble-brag.
Oh, true!
He’s constantly talking about how young he was when he had kids and how he never got a chance to celebrate his youth. You’d think he’d stop now that his kids are teens and can read about it.
Ps – the “wtf” tattoo on the back of his arm? Real cool, bro bro *eye roll*
This. My mom was the same, always reminding me of how she had to put her life on hold for me when I was born (which was a baffling statement, considering the lifestyle she still maintained) and by the time I was a teenager I was pretty tired of apologizing for it. You make your choices, you live with them, grow up and move on!
That was rude as hell of your mom to do that, as if you had any control over when you were born. Hopefully you don’t have any lasting damage from being raised by someone who obviously can’t take responsibility for their actions.
I had a older relative like that she had kids at very young age and blamed them for what she did not do with her life. Sadly, They are just getting their emotional well being back now in their 20’s
“I had kids and then my life was over. My youth was stolen from me. ” basically what he is saying. Jerk face.
The part that makes me for sorry for his kid is the bragging that people think he is her brother. Ick. I actually did have someone once ask me if I was my daughter’s older sister. I felt embarrassed for my daughter. What kid wants to have that happen much less have everyone hear about it? Did I secretly love the mistake? Of course I did! But I was glad the woman asked me out of earshot of my daughter and I made sure she didn’t know. Dude needs to grow up.
My mom and I got the ‘are you sisters?’ thing all the time. Meh, it hasn’t emotionally scarred me. People also thought I was my brother’s mom. It seems everyone in my family can pass for quite a bit older in teens/early 20’s and then for quite a bit younger 30’s and up. Now that I’m in my 30’s it everyone seems to know my mom is my mom and that my brother and I are siblings.
My son and I stopped for dinner once after one of his ball games. and the waiter thought I was his girlfriend. It must have been the ponytail I was wearing, lol!
I’m 48, and I still get carded on occasion usually by confused young people and only when I am wearing a baseball cap with my hair in a pony tail. It’s happened more than once and I do not look 21 anymore but I don’t look 48 yet either I guess. Maybe it’s the hat wearing, protecting the face from the damaging rays of the sun. I just assume the clerk is blind and a terrible judge of age, but I’ll take the ego boost!
Speaking as a chick in her mid-30s who definitely still gets carded….no, Ryan. Call me when a new neighbor who you waved to while rolling your recycling bin to the street calls the COUNTY TRUANCY OFFICER on you.
Yeah. She thought I was skipping school. Turns out I was older than the officer (after I showed him my I.D.).
I look every day and more of my 57 years and I get carded at the grocery store when I buy wine or beer.
It’s a state law.
My grandma drives cancer patients to their doctor appointments. One time one of them asked her to stop at CVS so she could pick up some whiskey and she got carded. Hand to God, she was 89 years old.
That’s the best story ever! Sounds like you have a curtain twitcher for a neighbour. And no, not twenty. While he has a young face, twenty? Honey, no. People are carding you because 1.) It’s the LAW, and 2.) They recognise you and want to see who you are and if you’re really “that guy form TV or something.”
Also, if he were a woman and made that comment, he would be vilified for being narcissistic within an inch of his life.
Curtain twitcher, lol, I love it.
LOL! Also funny that she thought a kid skipping school would hang out at home and do chores like taking the recycling out!
Well considering he works in an industry were so many young people are living hard partying lives which in turn makes them age faster. He probably does look like a lot of 20-somethings. But he really doesn’t look younger than mid-30’s at best.
I had to card everyone for alcohol at Patriots games. Guys in thir 80’s and my high school teacher. Some people thought it was because they looked young, but it was the law.
Ryan still looks youngish, but not 20.
Yeah, I volunteer for this event in our town and we card everybody. People are so flattered, but, no, it’s just the law.
Lol, hope none of them read this, hahahaha.
He looks younger than 40. But 20? Come on man. There is this actress, Bianca Lawson, who is in her mid thirties and still plays teenagers in ABC family and the CW, and the craziest thing is that she looks the part!!!
Yes! Bianca Lawson is gorgeous and it’s mind boggling that she’s been playing teenagers for 20 years and still pretty much looks the part.

Ryan Philippe, not so much.
LOL no Ryan just because you act like a 20 year old, date a 20 year old and dress like a 20 year old doesn’t mean you are a 20 year old. It doesn’t work like the duck story.
HAHAHA true.
hahaha!
I think he looks 28-32. He’s in good shape, he dresses youngish, he has that baby face, he doesn’t seem terribly mature when he speaks, he’s dating a 23-year-old. I’d buy it. He doesn’t look 20 though.
I work at a job where I see people’s IDs all day and I’m frequently surprised by how old/young people look. It really depends on genetics, life experiences, and the state of one’s health.
On his show, he doesn’t look old enough to be a 17 year old’s father. He really doesn’t and for me it makes the show much less believable. But he doesn’t look 20 either. I would agree with your age assessment. He does look young for his age. But not 20. However, I think sometimes people have a skewed perspective. I get mistaken for younger than I think I look all the time (which can be both flattering and uncomfortable at times). I think people sometimes just don’t really pay attention.
He does look very young on the show. The actor who plays his wife – Kadee Strickland – seems too old for him even though she’s is only 39 and looks great.
He looks like mid 30s. Definitely not 20.
I agree. Mid 30’s but no way does he pass for 20.
He does look rather young for his age. He’s a cutie!
How embarrassing that no one recognises him. I bet Reese doesn’t get carded, and she could almost pass for mid 20s. But everyone recognises her so you would never ask for ID.
I’m sure Miss ‘Do you know who I am’ is not recognized everywhere she goes.
20? No, dear, you don’t.
Hell, I’m 46 and I still get carded … In the kinds of places where they’d card John McCain. Ryan looks good, but he sounds like he’s having a hard time dealing with being 40 and having a teenage daughter.
He gets carded because people are thinking “is this that guy from Cruel Intentions?” He’s not the brightest bulb on the tree FOR SURE. But hot. Hot and dumb.
Probably gets carded because he goes to bars with a lot of underage people in them.
Oh poor thing was flattered when the obligatory carding at whatever establishment he was in did their job…just like I was when I was carded after having my late life baby…it was glorious to be carded- sleep deprived, gray roots showing, etc. easy to confuse, right?
His girlfriend is 23 and his daughter is 15. They look like sisters. They could be sisters. That feels so wrong.
He looks about 28-ish to me. I’m 22 and go to a lot of clubs, and I think he looks around the same age as “older” guys in clubs, but still under 30.
I don’t think he looks “old”, but I think that’s the type of thing you leave for other people to say about you rather than say about yourself.
Mid-life crisis. I wouldn’t think that someone “famous” would get carded. LOL.
Pretty obvious that he’s having a hard time being 40 – Talking about how young he looks, dating a 23 year old, talking about his youth. Its hard getting older but the more you fight it the dumber you look.
Secrets and Lies is such a good show. Too bad he won’t be on it next season as they will keep changing the main character each season. Does anyone think his character is the murderer? I think his wife framed him !
Please. Mid to late 30’s; yes. 20’s? Never. And? Who doesn’t know his age?? I mean he was 10 when he married Reese. He may have some delusion going on here.
He’s so douchey. It bothers me how he publicly brought up his daughter’s struggle with depression- like she’s not going through enough without it being trumpeted by him. Where does he get off?
No, Ryan doesn’t look young..he just looks tiny..like a miniature man.
Um, he’s 40 and still going to clubs ? Like, regularly ? Doesn’t he have a TV ?
Since I’m using Justin Bieber and the guys from One Direction as my frame of reference, I don’t think he looks 20 and I don’t think he looked 20 even when he actually was 20.
But I don’t think he looks as old as Ma and Pa Walsh from Beverly Hills 90210 either. However, given that we’re now in 2015 and he is a celebrity with access to the best trainers and nutritionists and has to maintain his appearance for his job, he probably shouldn’t look old.
But he actually doesn’t look that much older than those guys, not in these pics anyway. I mean, yeah, the 1D boys apart from Zayn and Harry look like fetuses but Z/H don’t look particularly young.
But Ryan Philippe still looks older than them, just maybe 5-7 years older instead of the full 20 he actually is.
I could buy people thinking he’s his in late 20. I started watching Secret and Lies and feel like he is SO miscast because he doesn’t look like he could possibly be a 17-year old’s father.
Personally, I look older for my age and my mom looks about 12-15 years younger for her age and people are always beyond shocked to find out we are not sisters. To be honest, it was really emotionally scarring when I was younger (to be told you look only a few years younger than your 37-y/o mother when you are 17 sucks), but I’ve gotten used to it.
I’m going a little off track here from the thread, but all I’m getting from these pictures is “Reese sure loves a bow”.
Hahaha that’s hilarious !
