Does Duchess Kate’s pregnancy ‘sweet tooth’ mean she’ll have a girl?

FFN_WilliamKate_FFUK_032715_51692778

Here are some additional photos of Duchess Kate and Prince William in South London on Friday. Again, these will probably be the last photos we have of Kate until she gives birth. Incidentally, when William spoke to various commoners at the Stephen Lawrence Centre, he apparently said, regarding Kate’s pregnancy: “The first time is a learning experience, the second time is a game-changer.” He also said something about how he “can’t wait” for the second baby to be born and he wanted to see the baby now. That’s somewhat interesting, because many of us got the feeling that William didn’t care too much about Prince George when George was a baby. He just never really seemed like a hands-on father. But maybe the second baby will be different. Maybe the second baby… will be a girl? That’s what one gossip item/old wives’ tale suggests.

The Duchess of Cambridge has told friends she is convinced she is having a girl – because she can’t stop scoffing sweet treats. According to an old wives’ tale, if a pregnant woman has cravings for chocolate and biscuits, it is a sure sign that she is carrying a daughter. Now Kate, 33, has joked to pals that if there is any truth in the saying, she is sure to give birth next month to a sister for Prince George.

The Duchess, who again suffered acute morning sickness at the start of the pregnancy, has developed a particular penchant for chocolate biscuit cakes and sticky fruit loaves baked near her Norfolk home, Amner Hall.

‘Prince William has always had a sweet tooth, but Kate has really had sweet cravings during this pregnancy,’ says a source. ‘She could barely keep anything down in the first months of her pregnancy but recently she just cannot get enough of naughty treats.’

William, 32, and his wife have both been spotted popping into the Humble Pie bakery in trendy Burnham Market, a 40-minute drive from Amner Hall, to buy goodies, according to locals. The £7.25 Wicked Chocolate Biscuit Cake that Kate adores is baked by a woman called Diane. Kate also stocked up on the £5.95 sticky fruit loaf during a recent shopping trip. The cake is also a favourite of William’s, who specially requested a version of it be made for the couple’s wedding.

‘Kate has popped into the store on her own and with William,’ reports a local. ‘She loves the cakes and says they are delicious.’

Last week we reported that the Duchess had bought a stash of posh Easter eggs at the trendy Conran shop in London, while William was given a chocolate egg on the way back from a memorial service for jockey Richard Meade. Kate has also developed a fondness of home baking, I gather. ‘She’s has become a domestic goddess,’ adds my source. ‘She loves baking with George.’

No wonder William has been telling chums he’s piling on the pounds because there are always treats at Amner Hall and at their London residence, Kensington Palace.

[From The Daily Mail]

We’re always hearing stories about Kate cooking and baking – and she even took an advanced cooking class a few years ago too – and I guess I believe that about her. I think she probably does know her way around a kitchen. Of course, she still totally has private cooks and the like (no judgment, I’d love a private chef). As for the new sweet-tooth… I think she’s probably still watching her weight, even while pregnant. She’ll probably have a chocolate here or there, but I doubt she’s eating endless cakes and cookies. And the old wives’ tale? Eh. I’d love it if she had a girl, but I really have no idea. I’m not getting any particular vibe either way.

  1. AC says:

I think she’s having a girl because of how swollen her face was for a few months during her pregnancy — that CAN be linked to extra estrogen in the system 🙂

    • Thinker says:

Throwing up (from morning sickness) can also cause puffiness in the face.

    • wiffie says:

I’ve had the complete opposite pregnancy as last time as far as symptoms. From weight gain, cravings, hunger, morning sickness, how I’m carrying, diastasis recti, swelling, EVERYTHING. (Except that damn heartburn) Another girl. So I put very little stock in symptomatic gender prediction anymore from personal experience.

  2. Bea says:

    This post made me hungry.

  3. Green Is Good says:

Countdown to contract fulfillment . An heir and a spare (maybe).
My vote is it’s a spare.

    • Sarah1 says:

Your vote is it’s a spare? You mean you think it’s a boy?
As the law has changed, a girl would now be considered a ‘spare’ too. Just as if their first-born had been a girl she would have been the ‘heir’ regardless of whether she then had a brother.

      • Reece says:

Last I heard, that law hasn’t passed through all the Commonwealths yet. So still a boy would be a spare.

      • FLORC says:

I think Green might have only meant the baby will be the 2nd born and a spare. Not gender related. Just simply, a spare.

  4. Sam says:

Wasn’t it confirmed after George’s birth that they opted to not know the sex? I remember that William had an audience with Obama a while ago and talked about how they didn’t know beforehand. Is there any indication that they found out with this one? There are so many old wives’ tales and I’ve found so few of them to be true. Every one out there predicted I was having a boy – had a girl. I had vicious heartburn, which is supposed to predict a baby with a full head of hair at birth – she was bald as an 8-ball. So now I personally just laugh at them.

In a way, I think the press is hoping for a girl because then they can fuss all over whether William will choose to honor the Queen with the name or if he’ll stick it to them by putting Diana in there someplace.

    • Lori says:

From my own experience, as my second pregnancy was so different from the first I thought I”d have a girl. First born was a boy. But nope…..second was a son as well.

  5. aims says:

I had a sweet tooth with all my kids, and two out of the three were boys, it doesn’t mean anything. Hell, I still have one and I’m not even close to becoming pregnant again.

  6. Audrey says:

I hope so, I wanna see the baby girl fashion

    • Citresse says:

Audrey, expect even fewer photos if a girl. William will, I suspect, be even more protective.

      • FLORC says:

        Right.
We wouldn’t see this child either unless photos had purpose to be released.

      • Bethany says:

I think if it’s a girl, she’ll be paraded around like a circus monkey. And if you think the media makes a fuss over Kate’s hair and wardrobe, just imagine what it’ll be like if this child is a girl. We’ll have her shoved in our faces never ending. And I
feel sorry for George if this baby is a girl…she’ll be the media darling and George will definitely take a back seat. It would be nice if George gets a brother to bang around with and have a buddy instead of a china doll.

  7. rosalie says:

GMAFB – I take the sweet tooth reference with a healthy dose of skepticism. Highly doubt that diet-conscious Kate indulges very much at all and probably buys the treats for William.

    • vava says:

No way she’s eating many sweets. She’s buying them for William and Georgie.

I’m more interested in why the hair on top of her head splits out the way it does…there are ‘chunks’ of hair at the part. And, that one photo with her mop in her face is just. so. typical….
The dolly curls are so juvenile.

      • oneshot says:

for what it’s worth, my own hair (wavy/curly, long) sometimes does that too – locks separate out in a chunk at the part, or sometimes in my fringe (that’s bangs in American). It’s just a thing that happens with hair that texture sometimes, particularly if it’s thick.

      • FLORC says:

        oneshot
Kate’s hair before it exploded out like this did seperate after she played with it. Had her hair been thick before the engagement i’d agree.
        And wiglets/extensions do that too.

    • CG says:

I remember when she got really skinny around the wedding, suddenly all these stories appeared saying that she was actually eating a ton of candy and had a major sweet tooth. The Mail (I think) interviewed a shopkeeper near her parents’ house and he said Kate was always popping in to buy Haribo. I didn’t buy it then and I don’t buy it now!

      • candice says:

Methinks it’s some kind of a pr ploy. Regardless, it’s patently obvious that Kate does not indulge in sweets. At least not anymore.

  8. HoustonGrl says:

It’s sad that the most interesting thing about her is whether her second baby will be a different gender than the first.

    • oneshot says:

So true. She seems to have no personality beyond the generic smiling-pretty-woman public front, the occasionally-risque outfits were the only thing she did so far that wasn’t 100 percent boring.

      • HoustonGrl says:

I agree. To be fair, I get that she’s a puppet for an extremely antiquated organization (the monarchy), but I don’t understand why she can’t represent issues beyond “family” and “motherhood” or why her manner of dress and style has to embody a plastic barbie. There are plenty of non-controversial societal problems to which she could lend a voice.

  9. Bess says:

If the new baby is a girl, she will be one tough little kid. With George as a big brother, she’ll learn how to stand up for herself quickly.

    • m says:

With Kate as a mother she will learn to sit down and let the prized little heir do whatever he wants.

      • Nikki says:

Disagree, disagree. Kate was a good student and captain of her sport’s team, and was confident enough to be willing to be in the public eye, critiqued constantly. She also has a close bond with her mother, so she’ll probably want a close bond with any daughter.

    • Micki says:

She’ll probably learn to throw a punch before she learns to stand ( for herself) LOL

  10. Ana says:

I don’t know why, but since her pregnancy started I’ve had the feeling it will be a girl…
I’ll guess we know in a short time.

  11. I wish Will & Kate health and hapiness.

  12. Andrea says:

This may sounds harsh, but I hope it isn’t a girl since she seems to have so many body image issues. I know boys can develop them too, but not as much as girls.

    • candice says:

Good point. Hopefully if it is a girl she will take her cue from some of the other royals who do seem to have a positive body image and are not as self-involved as Kate – e.g. Zara, Sophie, & Anne’s daughter in law (can’t remember her name).

  13. Sarah1 says:

Second picture… even she looks annoyed at her decision to wear her hear down!

  14. Abby_J says:

She might have a sweet tooth, but I agree that she is probably watching her weight like a hawk. I can imagine her fear of gaining a few pounds and having the press start calling her “Weighty Katie.”

In my personal life, I’ve found that the old wives tales were completely wrong on almost all counts. I do hope it is a girl, though!

    • Sarah1 says:

Yes I hope that nickname doesn’t catch on!
      I hope it’s a girl too!

    • LAK says:

when it comes to nicknames, every public figure has them. she’s lucky hers was waity Katie. Better than Duchess of Pork [Fergie]

      • notasugarhere says:

Abby_J, she is the one who has made a point of manipulating her naturally healthy, medium fame into an underweight status. That happened after one of the many breakups (circa 2007), and further after the engagement. I don’t think the public’s perception of her weight concerns her, as she is on record stating she doesn’t worry about anyone’s opinion but William’s.

LAK, Waity Katie is nicer than some of her other nicknames.

      • LAK says:

Nota: of all the nicknames i’ve come across, i still think she hasn’t really been insulted like the other royals.

EDIT: i was thinking more what is repeatedly posted in the media as opposed to more private names so i take back my previous statements. all of them. all her GF nicknames are pretty bad even if they aren’t widely used in the media. I think Wisteria sisters [in combination with Pippa] is the most polite, no?

      • FLORC says:

        LAK
Wisteria Sisters is such a compliment mixed with insult. Really depending from your angle of viewing.
And agree. Kate’s nicknames in the press have been extremely kind compared to what could have been. Even Duchess Dolittle isn’t that bad.

      • Becks says:

“The Wisteria Sisters” is actually pretty cutting as it refers to “highly decorative, terribly fragrant, with a voracious ability to CLIMB”. British society being still so class-conscious, the use of the word “climb” is chock-full of innuendo meant to insult. (For the record, I agree with the spirit of the term if not the classist attitude behind it)

And it has been reported that Kate was nick-named “The Mattress” by William’s protection officers as they saw all the times Kate would accommodate William and then sneak away at dawn.

      • LAK says:

Becks: that’s what I meant. Compared to ‘the mattress’ or ‘the limpet’, ‘wisteria sisters’ is exceedingly polite.

In her public life, the worst thing she’s ever been called is ‘waity katie’. Again, not so bad. Duchess of dolittle, Duchess do nothing, waitybot, Lamebridge…..i don’t think any of these are terrible nicknames compared to the ones above which I think are awful.

      • notasugarhere says:

LAK, IMO things said about Letizia of Spain are worse.

The worst nicknames for Middleton come from the people who interacted with her personally and frequently (William’s set and the protection officers).

      • FLORC says:

        Nota
Very true. The worst comes from those having met her at least a handful of times.

And Letizia gets the such terrible treatment! People get all up in arms over “waity Katie” and claiming she has extensions/botox when Letizia would welcome that being her worst criticism in the press.

    • DaysAndNightsAndDays says:

We can always call her wig-gy Katie. 😀

  15. Mumzy says:

It’s a ……… baby………. human! When baby human (HRH? Human Royal Highness?) is born we will know whether it is girl or boy (or a smattering of both … Perhaps not, if it’s the case).

It is surely impossible, but I hope that the family is given some peace afterward to adjust to, and enjoy, their new baby. I don’t care who you are or how many resources you have, birthing a baby (HRH or other) is exhausting both physically and emotionally. Whether the family recovers in their home or the home of a relative or friend, my wish for them would be the gift of peace and quiet, with a momentary break in criticism (of baby name, birth plan, hospital exit, hospital-exiting vehicle color, number of buttons on coat exiting hospital, work-load, careers, home location or renovation, family relations, wardrobe choices, makeup style, manner of speech, physical mannerisims…..).

When this baby is born, may every man and woman who has experienced the delight of a twitchy, splotchy, squishy, miraculous, astonishing new baby just say, “Cheers to you, new baby and family” and leave a wee bubble of pure, unsullied joy in tact …. if only for a precious small while.

    • oneshot says:

That’s really sweet, and I agree. Whatever the faults of its parents, I hope this baby is given at least a little privacy at the start of its life. It may be a Royal but it’s still a baby.

    • Lucky Charm says:

Cheers, Mumzy! Very well said. I think many of us tend to forget that when it comes to “celebrity” or “public” babies.

    • LAK says:

in which case hope for a boy!! a girl will be commented upon from the minute it’s known that it is a girl. even if they don’t use Diana in the name, the comparisons will be there. too big a burden for a baby.

    • Deb says:

Agreed! I wouldn’t want to be them, living in the constant criticism of the public eye, money, chef/staff or not.

      • vava says:

they don’t have it so bad. They retreat to their mansions, get pampered by their chef, maids, staff (and Carole), don’t have to worry about paying the bills, Kate shops for a hobby, and they go on vacations. They put minimal effort into their scheduled duties. The Pampered Rich. Kate’s skin doesn’t look so good and William is losing his hair, but I doubt either of them care.

  16. Lauren says:

I want to know why it matters? I remember reading lots of comments all around the net before George was born with people hoping that he would be a girl. But I honestly think it only matters that your baby is born happy and healthy. It isn’t anymore valuable as either sex or at least it should not be. And yeah I know little girls have cuter clothes than little boys and maybe people want to see a princess in cute outfits but man that just isn’t enough for all this fuss and speculating from the press in my opinion

    • inthekitchen says:

I think (IMO) part of the ‘hoping that PG was a girl’ was to force the BRF (and commonwealth countries, etc.) into adapting absolute primogeniture, rather than allowing the possibility of a younger son to come along and outrank the first-born daughter. The discussion came up when the pregnancy was announced…but was quickly shelved once their baby was born and was a boy.

    • FLORC says:

      It doesn’t matter.
What might matter is how the child turns out. And if the Monarchy will survive their father’s reign.

  17. ilovesunnydaze says:

She wears her pregnancy well. I have two friends who saw her when she was visiting New York. They said she was prettier in person. I think if she wore her hair straight it wouldn’t look so full at the bottom. My hair is the same and when I was pregnant I had twice as much. Fell out three months after giving birth. I think she’s having a girl as well.

    • candice says:

Hers probably fell out too –there’s a lot of speculation on this blog that she uses a wig or extensions. If she gets her nutrition under control her hair will be healthier.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

I dont think she wears a wig of any sort. But her hair is probably thicker because of pregnancy and will fall out once she has the baby. It’s hormones. She just naturally has very thick hair. Losing some wont hurt.

      • notasugarhere says:

There is lots of speculation in many places as to her hair pieces. They are obvious. All you have to do is look at her hair from earlier years (college, post-college) to see them.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

I dont see it. Not obvious to me. Whatever!

      • LAK says:

Her natural hair is frizzy mop. blow dried it looks similar to Pippa’s hair.

there are 8+ years of pap photos to show this.

      • inthekitchen says:

It’s not speculation. She has a weave. There are photos that clearly show the strip of the black weave piece sewn into her hair! It’s right there in the photos.

Can we please give up the fallacy that the amount of hair she currently sports is all her own? There is photographic evidence to the contrary and, as notasugar notes, the difference in the amount of hair she had throughout her entire life – up until her engagement – was about 1/3 the amount she has now.

      • FLORC says:

        Candice
It’s worth noting Kate’s hair is processed heavily. Styling, dyes, heating elements. They all take a heay toll on strands. Photos that haven’t been as touched up and fuzzy/blurred to wipe out wrinkles and such things (term used might be blended?), her hair is frayed and broken. Like many who put their hair through the same regimen.

It’s not an insult to say someone has extensions or a wiglet in these times. And for someone with a public role it makes sense. She’s human and has imperfect hair.

Plus the other posters are correct. Kate’s hair was much less in volume during the dating years. It exploded at the engaement/wedding era. There’s some help happening there.

      • ilovesunnydaze says:

Well ladies let’s agree to disagree. I have really thick long hair and it’s all mine so the possibility is there that it’s all hers. I didn’t see any difference from her younger days to today. And believe me I looked long and hard. I don’t really care to tell the truth. It looks nice either way.

      • candice says:

FLORC, While she has probably sustained damage to her hair from all of the chemicals in the products she uses, I still think poor nutrition and drastic dieting has contributed to the state of her hair. If she were getting all of the essential nutrients, her skin and hair would improve tremendously.

      • FLORC says:

        sunnydaze
If you don’t really care to tell the truth arguing against those who want to get their facts right seems argumentative.

        Candice
I agree. Her skin and hair have seen better days.
I refer to a web search for images from “Kate Feathers In Hair”. The images that come up are 2 of Kate with hair down and curls at the ends. The same style she wears often. The difference in volume is far greater than pregnancy hormones.

      • caitlin says:

Maggie – Are you serious? Your post sounds like a rant from a spoiled teenager.

Who is FLORC supposedly jealous of, Kate? While FLORC’s posts are not gushing with praise for Kate, there has never been any indication in anything she’s said that she’s coming from a place of “jealousy”. Anything negative she’s said is based on fact and what is obvious to anyone with a set of eyes. To be honest, I think she’s sometimes easy on Kate and gives her the benefit of the doubt when others (on more critical sites) don’t.

If you are referring to her being jealous of other posters, that’s not accurate either and in fact, it’s a bit juvenile to imply otherwise. She’s civil, articulate and can back up what she says with facts. I suggest you try the same.

      • FLORC says:

        Caitlin
Was there a post accusing another of jealousy? Those usually get removed for obvious reasons.
Appreciate the kind words though 🙂 We shoudn’t break this down to personal attacks.

        I won’t attack when there’s no reason.
And the wiglet stuff is hilarious, but that goes back to the origins of wiglet watch.

  18. MinnFinn says:

Someone enlighten me please. Why do some parents want to wait until baby is born to learn their sex?

And Kaiser I believe we’ll see another photo(s) or Twitter sighting re: Kate b4 the birth. #Shopping.

    • Deedee says:

Our choice to find out with the first two meant we could prepare the room, buy clothes, etc. before we were busy and tired with the babies. Once we had one boy and one girl, we let the third one be a surprise.
I’m sure WillKat know and have known what they are having, esp. because that female heir thing hadn’t passed all the Commonwealths. Everything is planned out and goes by a schedule with the BRF; this is why George was planned for after the Jubilee. They know the gender, but aren’t telling.

      • vava says:

        I think they know, too.

      • FLORC says:

        They know.
It was argued William knew George was a boy. That’s why he didn’t push back when that Canada boy before girl thing happened during the 1st pregnancy.

        MinnFinn
In my experience many couples know and want to know the gender. They also say they want to tell everyone they don’t know an don’t want to know so people will stop bothering them.

1 mother said her sister told friends it was a girl and was flooded with dresses and toys for girls. It was excessive and this lady wanted to avoid that.

    • Liz B says:

I chose not to know the sex before the birth of my son. We control everything these days and it just seemed like fun to have the surprise, the suspense. Plus, I’d rather have had more gender neutral stuff and it people knew, I’d have be overwhelmed with pink or blue.

  19. Deb says:

I was so positive my second child was a girl. I told the ultrasound technician I didn’t want to know and what does my (now ex, but not for that reason lol) husband do? Asks her and she tells him right in front of me. Grr. So ended up being another boy. Whom I love to pieces, so it all turned out well. 😀
I get girl vibes from Kate this time, but time will tell.

  20. notasugarhere says:

Any thoughts on the latest rumor that Anmer isn’t done? Jason floating the idea so the public will buy the excuse for William to stay at Wood Farm solo, while she’ll be at Bucklebury for months?

    • LAK says:

what? where did this rumour come from?

    • LAK says:

OK, found it. Mail on Sunday. Courtesy of Katie Nicholls. Going to take it with a big pinch of salt because it’s KN.

I do not doubt that Kate will go to Bucklebury. It’s a given.

The question is where William will be, but isn’t that always the question?

      • FLORC says:

William being away from his wife was 1 thing. She’s an adult that knew the terms.
His kids though? Because they’re infants doesn’t mean they can’t benefit from their father’s presence.

As for Anmer Hall. Another rush with no costs too great to finish on time. And another residence to go vacant while Kate moves back in with her parents and William stays elsewhere.
Wood Farm I thought was the plan for William for a while now.

Time will tell, though this wouldn’t be unheard of.

      • Becks says:

Where William is headed is indeed the question, in more ways than one.

I have a question myself: I never knew this, but I have seen many references to Kate letting slip that William was absent for the first months of George’s life. The subtext was always that she “let it slip” in a passive-aggressive dig at William, possibly as an attempt to put some public pressure on him to come back into the family fold.

I have never been able to find the direct source of this, but like I said, I have seen it referenced by many of you. Please enlighten me.

      • notasugarhere says:

Why still go to Bucklebury if her mother and father have already moved in to Anmer and are running the show? The stories about the whole family there for a month at Christmas, plus the staff leaving after 5 months? Now she’ll decamp to Bucklebury anyway? I think we’re being set up for a “pity them their house isn’t done and they have two little kids” storyline from Jason to excuse William’s absence.

      • burnsie says:

According to People, William’s first day of work was today… who knows how this will all turn out.

Becks, I think she said that at the group playdate in Australia. I could be mixing it up though.

      • LAK says:

Becks: she said it at the play date with families in NZ. She was sympathising with a single mother at the play date.

The reporters present tweeted it, but i’m not sure if a big story was written about it as everyone was busy cooing over PGtips interacting with other babies. And THAT was deemed the bigger story.

      • notasugarhere says:

Burnsie, People has it wrong. He is training, not working. He won’t technically be working for months.

      • Becks says:

Oh, I never knew that. Thanks for the info.

And was it generally seen as a passive-aggressive dig deliberately directed at William?

      • LAK says:

Becks: it pretty much went by with no comment.

The passive aggressive interpretation came later, and primarily from royal watchers. Kate repeatedly responded to the public with what she claimed were William’s reactions to item/event member of the public had commented on. Individually her comments didn’t warrant any extra attention, but collectively, they added up to a negative undercurrent despite the sunny, positive image of the tour.

      • notasugarhere says:

Sunny, positive but for the threats against photographers. If you play with the baby in full view of the photographers across the street, they will take the photo.
