Star: Cressida Bonas will only get back with Prince Harry if he proposes

Prince Harry actually hasn’t had that many “official” girlfriends. And of the small assortment, I’ve always believed that Chelsy Davy was The One. She was The One in the sense that he couldn’t give her up for the longest time, that they did the break-up and make-up cycle a dozen times, that they were a beautiful mess together and he probably still has feelings for her.

I would not put Cressida Bonas in the same category at all, although it does seem like Harry and Cressida are still linked somehow, and it’s not just a press thing. He recently attended Cressida’s play, they’ve been seen together post-breakup, and it feels like there’s some unfinished business there. So now that Harry is putting an end to his military career, and will presumably have more time to focus on hunting for a wife, will Cressida be at the top of his list? Royal insiders tells Star Magazine that it’s a remote possibility. Maybe.

A royal insider tells Star: “Cressida has always been the one woman who Harry could never get out of his mind. She has a lot of pull over him, it’s why they’re always breaking up and getting back together.”

Having recently announced that he’ll be leaving the military in June, speculation is rife that Harry may be trying to get back together with Cressida. But sources close to her say that, this time, she’ll only play if it’s for keeps.

“Cressida is adamant that if they’re going to give it another shot, Harry needs to be serious,” says a Bonas bestie. “She’s not an accessory to keep him company just because it’s hard for him to meet someone new. Unless there’s a proposal with a ring attached, then she’s simply not interested in wasting another year of her life.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Cressy’s been enjoying her post-breakup by working, or what passes for work for well-connected, aristocratic royal ex-girlfriends. She’s appeared on some magazines. She danced in a commercial for Mulberry. She acted in her first film and she’s done some plays. She would not have been able to do any of that if she was still dating Harry. But I could see Cressida playing the odds – should she be an “independent woman” and make her own money, or should she just marry a rich prince? I feel like Cressida has given Harry this ultimatum before, by the way, and the last time she threw it out there, it blew up in her face and Harry broke up with her. But maybe Harry is having second thoughts.

  1. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

Fergie 2.0 in the sense that Cressida loves the limelight way too much to behave sensibly at the annual Garden Club unveiling of this year’s rose.

Or whatever it is the wife of the future king’s brother is supposed to do.

  2. geekychick says:

If we were talking about Chelsy, I’d totally believe it. But I’m sucker when it comes to Chelsy and Harry-I think that was/is the only romantic story in all of these european royal families, and I think Lainey was somewhat on the point: she didn’t want the title and life that comes with it because her life as it is-is better.
I always thought that this one was (he thought) a nice patch-up after Chelsy: with a name that is approved by the court, and enough likeness to Chelsy that he’s ok with it. But I don’t think she’s the One.
Yeah, yeah I know I’m a sucker for romantic storylines till the day I die. ;/
And I can’t believe I just typed a whole commenting post on prince Harry, ffs!!!

    • Miss M says:

Me too! I loved Chelsy and Harry together.

    • Elly says:

Chelsy was his first real relationship. Typically young, carefree love. Of course they were gorgeous together. Nothing is cuter than young love 🙂
We all like to glorify the “1st love”, but the truth is we grow up and change and find people who fit in our “real” life and have the same future plans.

    • Cindy says:

Now I’m gonna have to google her.

He really is so handsome and Cressida seems sort of dull. Oh well, so is Kate, so maybe it could work. Also, that first post photo with that heading is brilliant and perfect.

  3. Eleonor says:

Pr rumors from her to get more gigs.

  4. vauvert says:

Meh. She seems boring as toast. And pretty in a fairly bland way. As for work… If he does marry her, I have a feeling she will be as work shy as Kate. Honestly, what passes for work in these circles is hilarious. I hope that Harry, who seems to have a work ethic and his heart in the right place given his charity endeavours, will do better and actually find a woman of some substance. With the bar set as low as it has been set by his brother and wife (and despite some of you disagreeing, his vacationing cousin too), it should be fairly easy.

    • LAK says:

I don’t understand the idea that Harry’s girls are unambitious, no work ethic girls in the style of Kate.

You (and I), may not approve of their ambitions or work choices, but they all had an ambition/work, and a public record that supports said ambition/work ie Chelsy – law student and is now a lawyer, Flee – was a model, still a model, Cressida – Dance student with acting ambitions, now a working actress.

By comparison, Kate showed no ambitions whatsoever except to marry William and be a stay at home wife.

I don’t think we need to worry about the work ethic of anyone Harry brings home because he’s shown that he is interested (and willing to make a go of it) in girls with work ambitions/ethic, even if these girls are dating Harry for the boost to their careers.

Personally, i’ll be disappointed if he turns around and finds a Kate2.0 because he’s not prepared to be with a more interesting woman like William did, but I don’t think that he will based upon his record.

      • VirgiliaCoriolanus says:

Yep, most people grow up. I was recently talking to this guy (who was like a meat headed jock in HS) that I went to school with, who’s now a marine, and he dated the same girl throughout HS–all four years. And they’d just broken up a few months ago. And I remember telling him that I thought they’d never break up, they were one of the few to stay together for all 4 years of HS, etc, and I’m just going on and on, and he stops me and says he was SO tired of her drama (and yea, she was one of the popular, look at me girls in HS), and was glad to be out of the relationship. Lol.

I’m not sure if Harry still has feelings for Chelsea, like she was The One. On one hand, it could be like my male friend from HS, just glad to be done, or he could have residual feelings for her. Who knows? Maybe they both learned who they were and weren’t in that relationship, and know that it neither of them are good for each other in a relationship.

  5. Allie says:

I feel like they were always more friends than lovers. How many times can we hear the same story of this ultimatum?

  6. Lore says:

I think she’s just throwing that story out there to keep herself in the press. The only reason anyone knows her name is because she dated Prince Harry so it’s just PR for her.

  7. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

Harry is a bit like Leo but not as prolific. He’s not interested in marrying anyone.

  8. jwoolman says:

I think spouses of royals and politicians need to invoke an opt-out clause. Really, just because you’re married to someone with such a job doesn’t mean you have to be a twofer. Let the royal or politician do his/her job as he/she would if unmarried. It must narrow the options considerably for Harry if he has to pick a wife willing to do all the royal nonsense, er, “royal work” and have you folks sniping at her all the time if she doesn’t meet your expectations for a twofer. Harry could resign from The Firm if he really wanted to do so, why shouldn’t his wife have the same option separately?

    • Anne says:

Yes, it does make it awfully difficult for them in some ways, but for “royality” to remain what it is, I don’t see how they could change it.

Hopefully Harry will find someone suited both to him and the public duties of being with him. I may be naive, but I think that girl/woman exists and he’ll find her when he’s ready for her.

    • Sharon Lea says:

I read that Prince Albert vowed to give this kind of option to Charlene and that she can pick and choose how much she will participate. If so, that was decent of Albert. I’m sure she is expected to go to The Red Cross Ball and their Christmas actvities.

  9. Kaye says:

    Nice photo selection, Kaiser 🙂

  10. wolfpup says:

I said this before, “mark my words”, this is a serious relationship for Harry. Cressy’s the one – she’s nearly Dianaesque. What do I get if I’m right?

    • Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

      Harry doesn’t do serious.

      • FLORC says:

Supported by what? Harry does serious very well. He has amazing dedication. And he was seeing Cressida for some time before the press would say. So that’s history supporting that not only can both keep a secret, but that Harry can and does do serious.

      • Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

Supported by the fact that he’s not married even though there’s been ample opportunity. He ain’t lookin’ for nothin’ but a good time.

      • FLORC says:

Because someone isn’t married doesnt mean they aren’t searching for a serious relationship. Or aren’t able to “do serious”. Your statement “He ain’t lookin’ for nithin’ but a good time” is only your opinion and interpretation.
I think his history well demonstrates he can and has been serious.

      • Jaded says:

He and Chelsy Davy were quite serious, they lasted a long time through thick and thin and I think they still have a lot of love for each other. She’ll always be the one that got away.

      • FLORC says:

        Jaded
The one that got away carries with it the desire to want them back currently. And glorifying the memory. Even if it was such a perfect time together you always remember it with less bad times and better good times. That’s just how we tend to remember some things.

Harry and Chelsy have parted ways so entirely for so long I doubt they’re eachothers “ones” Great times and lusty love that happens between 2 young, attractive people without cares in their early 20’s.

    • bluhare says:

I used to think so until she started milking it. I would think if it were serious she would not be pursuing an acting career.

      • FLORC says:

        Oh Bluhare
Because a girl must give up a possible career to get a man?

      • Imo says:

Bluhare is right. This is not just any man and anyone dating Harry knows this. One can not be an entertainer/model and date a UK prince. Cressy put her goals on hold and took that silly theater marketing job during the height of the public phase of that relationship. That showed commitment to Harry but she can’t have it both ways and claim that her career always came first.

      • FLORC says:

There’s more at play here. We stand at opposite sides on this. There’s a bias that runs deeper than facts.
Bluhare and I stand opposite on few things, but Cressida and Bea are 2.

She’s young and has been figuring out life. Bea was attacked for this when she turned just 20 for not having her life planned out.
Having an easier time financially doesn’t make that easier. Slack can be something you’re not even aware of because there’s not the same need to overcome it.

    • Jegede says:

      @Imo –
      Exactly. Agree 100%.

Laughably, the goalposts manage to shift to defend Cressida.

  11. jb says:

I want Harry to find a tall leggy blonde smart Australian.

    • Allie says:

How about a curvy, smart redhead American? (Me)

    • ann says:

I’m a blonde, blue eyed American. I’ll invite him to my house in Florida. He’s so cute

    • Senaber says:

Yes! I wonder if Harry met someone on his tour and will give it a go to see if they could work out during his secondment (is that the right word?).

  12. FLORC says:

Davy wasn’t the One. That in every sense screamed “1st love” over “The One”. The whole relationship has been heavily glorified since.

Cressida was seeing Harry for what seems like a long time before any press would pick up the story. When they finally did the press played catch-up and it appeared like Cressida rushed in to his life and rushed out just as quickly for the spotlight. That makes for decent gossip, but isn’t based entirely in truth.

For what it’s worth Cressida could be a decent royal. She’s comfortable with that lifestyle. She’s well into charity functions and requirements of the post as Harry’s wife. She has a work ethic that has been debated and discussed at length here. And is fairly scandal free. Nothing major with minor exception to petty details (dresses like a hippie/career routes). Everything else is gossip.

    • danila says:

”Davy wasn’t the One.The whole relationship has been heavily glorified since.”
agree!Comings and Goings.Only works the distance. …. Talks a lot.

”For what it’s worth Cressida could be a decent royal. She’s comfortable with that lifestyle.”
disagree! She reminds Diana defects, but different qualities.
She loves attention/Attention on himself (like Sara/Diana ,unlike Sofhie ).
She loves to be cared for by all. Likes to be spoiled/pampered.
Emotionally fragile. She always wants to be protected/save.

I think he needs: a strong woman emotionally.
      Not Chelsy -unstable relationship.
      Not Cressida -unstable emotionally.
Like Zara or Queen Mother or Brigite ,Duchess of Gloucester

      • FLORC says:

You must have her diary to come out stating opinions as facts in such detail and certainty. Unstable? Where is your evidence? Besides comparing from a great distance and imposing your bias?

Your comment is a great example of how people assume they know her every thought and motive like they are her. I’m speculating and giving history. Many are just making claims based in opinion, but stated as fact.

      • danila says:

        1- that rudeness.
2- We do not know them, all speculate.
Fact- they broke up. The why? speculate.
You state: ”For what it’s worth Cressida could be a decent royal.”’She’s comfortable with that lifestyle.” How do you know?
The big difference, between friendship (with York’s) and join the Firm.

        are just two examples :
She say (about fame) :—Cressida: “It is completely different,” she says, twice.“It is my trade and what I have studied. It is not my personal life.”
Jacobi say:“Cressida is not a tough cookie at all. She’s a very sensitive, sweet girl.”But Jacobi, 30, reckons his “sweet” and “sensitive” half-sister must think about the consequences of marrying into the Royal Family.”

-sorry mistakes, English is not their first language-

  13. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Is there really pressure on him to marry? He seems young enough to me to just hang single for a while longer. What’s the rush? He doesn’t need to produce an heir. I don’t get it.

    • Jegede says:

In The Sunday Times interview Cressida did some weeks back the interviewer describes her as very nice but “drippy”.
      Sort of a wet blanket.

I honestly think those stanning for these two are doing it on a purely superficial basis.

They like the look and sound of it the way they were all for Charles & ‘perfect English Rose’ Di. ‘deja vu’

I think she and Harry together will be an emotional mess.

    • VirgiliaCoriolanus says:

Maybe it’s just me, but I want Harry (or some other royal) to completely shake up The Firm, in terms of his marriage. Marry a black woman. Asian. Middle Eastern. A fellow ginger that looks like Merida and talks like it. Lol.

    • Imo says:

      Jegede
Thank you! Absolutely no other reason why people are bleating for this union – the charming prince is supposed to marry the svelte, dewy-eyed, ash blonde aristo. Give me a break. Why can’t we hope that he marries someone who has a track record of compatibility, maturity, common interests and devotion? If that fits Cressida then fine although I personally do not think she comes close. But if not then let it go and keep it moving.

      • LAK says:

The narrative won’t move along until Harry finds himself a new GF. It took until he was with Cressida before Chelsy stories started to die and that was several years and another GF in between. Once he finds himself a new GF, deemed to be serious, the Cressida stories will stop.

      • Imo says:

Most likely so. Even the flings Harry had post-breakup didn’t stop the Cressida stories. I think once Harry goes public with another serious gf the Cressida pieces will stop. I personally wondered if the Camilla Thurlow fling was just a calculated PR stint because Scotland was about to cast their vote for independence. Also interesting is the pattern Harry has of being linked to brunettes/ethnic girls but publicly dating blonde, well connected blondes from the aristo set.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
Camilla seemed calculated and a total deadend.

And speaking of blondes and brunettes. Wasn’t William always connected by dating Brunettes (except 1 i think), but always linked by rumors to Blondes?

      • Imo says:

        FLORC
        Interesting!

    • Bridget says:

Harry’s 30, he’s of an age that is reasonable to settle down. And I would think that it would be nice to have a wife and partner to share his royal duties. It must get old attending all of his events solo, and it’s not like he can just bring a girlfriend of the moment.

  14. Wendy says:

I have a feeling that when the second Cambridge baby is born (my bet is on girl and no Diana anywhere in her names) we may get an engagement note from either Harry or Bea.

  15. danielle says:

I don’t think cressida ever seriously wanted to marry harry. She got some nice publicity by dating him, but she’s not going to give up her “acting” career to christen boats in a knee length skirt and court heels.

  16. Emily says:

So much for being too freespirited and independent for The Firm. 😉 If this story is true, then she’s been following the Waity Playbook to the letter. 😛

  17. The Original Mia says:

Really, Cressy? This mess again? Is being Harvey’s new It Girl not as helpful as it was prior to his arrest? Is Georgina putting her foot down on willowy blondes? Harry doesn’t seem interested in anything except his job right now. He went to her play before he left. That was a nice thing to do, but wasn’t enough because no one cared. Gotta keep stoking those stories to keep the connection strong.

    • FLORC says:

      It’s Star Mag!
They only get stories from dreams after reading too much gossip. Or reading actual news and twist enough details. No matter how they spin it Star stories are always wrong. If Star mag wrote an article claiming the sun sets in the East we should all start questioning our compasses.

The only ones bringing this connection back up is Star. If this came from a different publication might say otherwise, but because it’s Star it’s complete BS.

      • The Original Mia says:

Oh, I know it’s bull, but this seems right out of either her mother’s or Harvey’s PR playbook.

      • Imo says:

        FLORC
Watch Cressida’s Mulberry video again. The mam at the base of the stairs is a tall, handsome red head. Cressida pauses, giggles coyly and runs off as if she can’t be bothered but might not mind a bit of a pursuit. Are you kidding me that this hair whipping girl is not milking the Harry connection to death? Shame on her for allowing References to Harry to be dragged into her drama.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
I think that’s your interpretation of a scripted commericial written by a team of people who work on these campaigns to get attention.
Cressida didn’t pitch this unless you know something I don’t.

The connection is out there. They concealed it for ages, but once it came out it was out. It’s it’s over now it’s tongue in cheek(?) or coy(sp?) of her. It’s not shoving it in your face, but it’s an asset she’d be foolish to use too obviously and foolish to not use at all.
As much as we might think she’s using it too much we are not the majority. We are royaloonies that have magnifying glasses on this. And that makes every move worse from upclose inspection.

      • Imo says:

        FLORC
True we here micro examine everything. That may make things look worse but it may also reveal info and inconsistencies that the general public are unaware of or all too happy to glide over.
As for the ad a young Eastern European film maker was tapped to conceptualize the video.according to articles Cressida was thrilled with it. That plus her strong working relationship with the brand leads me to believe that she consciously decided to trade on her Harry connection. Tacky, inconsiderate and in extremely poor taste. She could have redlighted that ending which actually had nothing to do with promoting those awful looking handbags.

      • Suze says:

I am chuckling at the image of Watercress as the master media manipulator.

      • Imo says:

        Suze
I think she couldn’t resist the Harry impersonation thrown in at the end of the video. But I also think that while she doesn’t have the tabs on speed dial I don’t think she’s above letting a friend or two put in a discreet phone call or two, off the record of course.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
I like Cressida. I think she’s natural in a lot of ways. And like I did with Kate until there’s more than rumors I’m going to like her. Give me more than heavy speculation steeped in gossip as the foundation for these statements and i’ll change my tune. Until then i’m not budging.

  18. Cressy will only get back with Harry if Kate puts her poppet doll away and stops sticking pins in it. Kate wants an authentically well-born, beautiful young blonde HRH in the family with the gorgeous skin and English Rose looks naturally that Kate uses layers of makeup to achieve, like she wants a full-time job 🙂

    • Jegede says:

Geez. So this is Kate’s fault too right??

      • Rory says:

Are you new here? When is not Kate’s fault?!

      • seesittellsit says:

Kate’s dislike of Bonas was well-know. It’s a gossip site – have a sense of humour.

      • Jegede says:

        @Rory

Lol. I know I was being facetious.

I’m only surprised it hasn’t been the dominant gist today.

When I feel like it, I’ve always called out the double standard and hypocrisy when it comes to the Middelton and Bonas narrative line.

( Though most of the time I can’t be bothered to.)

      • FLORC says:

        Jeg
It’s not discussed because it has no place here.

      • Imo says:

Oh come now. Any rf post inevitably includes discussions of Kate. In the same way that Kate posts often generate other rf tangents.

  19. Sarah says:

What I don’t get is why COULDN’T she continue to have a career? The first lady of France (for a while) continued to act. Harry is soon to be 5th in line for the throne. Barring some horrific disaster, he’s not going to be king. Yes, he will still work and still represent and his actions will bring honor (or shame – ANDREW!!) on the family. But the wife of Harry will not have to worry about an “heir and a spare” nor will she be queen. She’ll be a Countess or Duchess or something.

    • LAK says:

As far as lowliness of position vis a vis the line of succession, we’ve had several major overhauls that brought in really lowly placed people to the throne. That lowly duchess/countess may find herself the mother of the heir, like Victoria’s mother did after the heir, Princess Charlotte of Wales died at 21, and there were no other children between the other 3 people above Victoria in the line of succession.

There are numerous examples of people far down in the line of succession who suddenly get the top job.

The other thing to remember is that since Charles has trimmed (or is preparing to trim) the fat of the senior royals to his own family, Harry can’t simply fade away like the York’s, Wessexes, Kents or Gloucesters. He will remain front and centre as will his wife and children. Harry has to consider who he marries.

    • Anne says:

The forces of tradition and cultural expectation keep it as it is. Theoretically, if there was the will, the system could adjust for them.

    • EN says:

If you look at politicians, not many have wives that work independently. Being a politician’s wife is already a full time job. Royals are very similar.

    • danila says:

I think it depends on the career.

If she works as a police / political /. … possibly problems.

      If she was a veterinarian/Social worker/ designer . … Would be easier.

  20. EN says:

To marry into the royal family is to basically sign up for a life of a socialite, and a life that is regimented from dawn to dusk.
These days when well connected rich women have so many other options, why do it?
And if you want to be a socialite, there are so many easier ways.

  21. suze says:

I think the simplest explanation is the key here. Harry stays friends with his exes and he and Watercress are friends.

The Star has to sell copies, hence friendship becomes potential marriage.

  22. wow says:

I’m not sure why she automatically gets blamed for these press stories as if Star Magazine has never hired writers to just make stuff up. I’ll go with a direct quote that she gave in an interview where she said a lot if these stories are lies the presd made up. None of that “a palace as source” or “close friend of the former couple” stuff.

Even with that, people still say it’s her. It’s rather weird.

  23. wow says:

I’m convinced that whoever decides to take on marrying Harry will more than likely truly be the one who loves him. Because she’ll have to live the rest if her life being put down by nameless, faceless people …and for what? She won’t even get to be Queen like Kate at least. And depending on how many more children Will & Kate have, Harry and his wife will more than likely not even be “main” royals. His wife will be a Countess if The Queen or Charles (depending who reigns during the time Harry decides to marry) gives Harry an “Earl” title.

It will be interesting to see who he ends up with, but I don’t see Cressida or Chelsy being it. Perhaps while in Australia, he can fit in a trip to the Slip Inn and find him a qualified future bride like Crown Prince Frederik did. 🙂

    • FLORC says:

Agree with both your comments. It’s Star and people are acting like it’s truth. Star mag never does truth.

And they would have to love Harry. They would be the Fergie. Even if Harry’s wife was best friends with Kate, a hard worker, flawless in her duties and styling, while being the perfect wife she would be painted as absolutely horrid as the wife of the spare. Even when Diana and Fergie were close friends the tabs ran stories about their hatred and Fergie’s jealousy.

  24. Dena says:

Nothing really to say but that while I like what is reported abouted Harry, I think he still needs somemore time to come into himself. I’ve said it before but I don’t think he’ll be ripe n ready until he’s about 35. He’d truly be a catch then.

People seems to put a lot on pressure on themselves, friends and family members to get married in their 20s. I have to wonder if they are actually in full blown relationships or “comfortable” relations that have simply beyond extended college / high school with marriage is the next easiest / patterned / logical step.

    Resist Harry. Resist.

  25. Stornflower says:

This is why I never liked Cresida. Whenever shes in the papers shes either linked to some rich guy or was milking her heartbreak when they broke up. Harry needs someone awesome like him

  26. Stornflower says:

Also can ppl not put Diana down. She was amazing. Did a lot for children and charity etc.
