Great Kate Wait 2.0: Prince Charles is ‘hoping for a granddaughter’

wenn22314099

Another day, another… day without a royal baby. Do you think Kate would go into labor on a Friday? I kind of doubt it. I mean, I know she really doesn’t have any control over it, but I would think a Sunday birth would be more her style, with maybe a Monday debut? IF she can control it, I’d just like to tell Kate that I have dinner plans tonight and I’d really appreciate it if she kept that baby inside for another couple of days.

The rumor mill went into overdrive when the Telegraph’s royal correspondent tweeted about seeing Carol and Michael Middleton on the way to the Lindo Wing – he tweeted: “A two-car convoy with police motorcycle escort has been seen leaving the Bucklebury area heading for M4. I should stress that the Middletons don’t usually get a police escort, so I’m not ramping this up, but who knows? #RoyalBaby.” But it seems like it was maybe a false alarm? Why would Carole Middleton get a police escort again? I mean, I don’t doubt that Carole has tried to get a police escort before, but has she?

So how has Kate spent her Great Kate Wait 2.0? Sources told OK! Magazine (eyeroll) that Kate had her hair done earlier this week, “plus a mani-pedi, her legs waxed and a nice relaxing facial.” She’s also been thinking about what she wants to wear for the big baby debut outside the hospital – she’s thinking about doing something yellow.

Last thing – Prince Charles was doing an event at Windsor Castle and he mentioned to a 100-year-old veteran, “We’re hoping for a granddaughter!” It’s been said often that Charles always wanted a daughter (he apparently hoped Harry was going to be a girl) and I guess he thinks that if it’s a granddaughter, he’ll get to see her more than he gets to see Prince George. Poor sad Charles!

As always, I’ll update if there’s any news. Last thing – Kensington Palace tweeted this yesterday and I almost jumped out of my skin. World class trolling, KP. People were really mad about it too!

I just can’t stand Charles. What if the baby is a boy? Then it gets to read that his grandfather wanted a girl. Put a sock in it, you jug-eared overgrown baby.

    • Jegede says:

I like Charles, but on this ………………
Well he was quite unabashed in his desire for a daughter whilst he was with Diana. And William wants a girl in the family too.

I sincerely hope he’s being so public about it, because they know, otherwise its very, very poor form.

Funny thing is its reverse for another expectant royal Family, the Swedes are praying for boys.
King Carl wants a grandson and Madeline is hoping for a boy.

    • Two degrees says:

But he said the same last time and so did William. William said to friends and Kate said to someone on a outing PW wanted a girl, Kate wanted a boy.

    • Kiki04 says:

I’m not sure I can fault Charles on this because it seems like EVERYONE in the royal family has been trolling for a girl. Even William has said he wanted a girl when Kate was pregnant with George. Although I feel like the princess talk has been a bit too much……almost like they think it will fix everything if there is a little princess running around.

    • Lucky Charm says:

I don’t find anything wrong with hoping for one gender over another. After I had my daughter, when I got pregnant again I was really hoping it would be a boy. Not because I didn’t love my daughter, but simply because I didn’t want two. I did have a boy, but I still would have loved my baby just as much if it had been another girl.

    • FLORC says:

      GNAT
That might be excessive. You might not like him to begin with, but a sound bite was it. And how did the vet ask Charles? His short answer might have been completely fine in the correct context.
I can’t get up in arms over this. Especially with William reportedly saying the same things.

  2. MelissaManifesto says:

I am a celebrator of babies and I am excited for them and anyone who is having a baby. I can’t wait!!!!

  3. Two degrees says:

He was hoping for a daughter last time and so were much of the press.
I think the fans will have meltdowns if it’s not a girl.

If it is a girl the fans will practically bestow fan sainthood on Kate.

I don’t get why some seem to want a girl. A healthy baby is enough.

    • Anaya says:

So the British press can treat the baby princess girl the way they treated Diana is my guess. The Diana obsession lives on. The British press has always tried to make Kate the new Diana but she could never live up to such high expectations for various reasons. The Cambridge children have a greater connection to Princess Diana than merely Kate Middleton alone. That’s because Kate and William’s children carry Diana DNA. If this 2nd Cambridge child is a girl I expect the press to either harass the poor child until the end like they did to Diana or maybe it’ll be the opposite in that the British press will treat a royal born princess Cambridge much kinder as a way to make up for the horrible way they treated Diana when she was alive.

      • Two degrees says:

        Great insight. I see.
The Internet will break if it’s a girl. You are right, the Press and many of the Fans will see a girl child as Diana 2.0.
William will probably go into complete hide away mode for years if that happens.

      • Kori says:

Bingo. That’s why I hope they avoid the name Diana if it’s a girl–even as a middle name. A huge burden for a child. I would go with Frances in the string to honor her without the onus.

    • PoppyAdair says:

A healthy baby is all anyone should want. However, I can understand why Charles and William might want a girl. After the UK changed its succession laws, this baby regardless of gender will be 4th in line to the throne. What better way to point out the “modernization” of the monarchy – something Diana tried to achieve in her own way – than with the birth of a baby girl? But perhaps I am too cynical.

      • FLORC says:

You can want a gender. It’s all too common. Some families want all boys, all girls, a mix with specific ratios. All want healthy babies. You can want both a healthy child and a specific gender.
There’s no shaming people for wanting or prefering these things.

      • Megan says:

I am totally rooting for a girl becasue you the little outfits will be darling.

      • Citresse says:

        PoppyAdair, yes, good point.

  4. bettyrose says:

Aren’t we all hoping for a girl? And that list of spa treatments gave me just a twinge of envy for Kate’s life.

    • Christin says:

I share your envy. Most of the expecting women I know worked right up to the due date, unless health concerns arose.

    • Vava says:

I’m not sure everyone is hoping for a girl.

    • FLORC says:

Seems all too likely if it’s a girl she’ll be shackled from her 1st breath with the memory of Diana. Judged more harshly than her old brother. Her life seems like it would be far more difficult. A boy as the spare would fair better imo.

      • bettyrose says:

FLORC, that makes sense, but it would be fun to watch a little princess grow up. Being born in 2015, I assume she’d be spared charm school and allowed to attend the finest institutions the UK or Europe have to offer, so at least she’ll have more to define her than comparisons to Diana.

      • Vava says:

I’d rather see Harry have the first girl! 😀

      • FLORC says:

        bettyrose
I too think it would be adorable to see a little princess grow up with all that little girl cuteness (Estelle). That isn’t a good enough reason though. That’s a selfish reason to want a child to be female so they can be paraded out for the public’s benefit. And there’s no denying the shackles of her grandmother. Before the public knew George was a boy the possibility of a girl was already chained to Diana with expectations too great for a baby.
It would (imo) be a small mercy for the spare to be a boy.
Still, the gender is known so in time we’ll know too.

    • bettyrose says:

Florc, again, all good points. For me personally it’s not about watching a little girl paraded around as a live doll. Being female, I can relate better to the experiences of a a girl growing up. So the vicarious fantasy of a real life princess with the best of everything (especially education, as I mentioned above) is more fun. Still a selfish reason, I admit, but I tend to think the Diana comparison would be short lived. A little princess could choose from a buffet of lifestyle/career options and she won’t be married off at 19. Diana lived a sequestered existence attending schools for rich girls who weren’t good at much.

      • FLORC says:

        bettyrose
Here’s why the Diana comparison might not be short lived. The woman left a massive mark. And William unfortunately has used that mark to his advantage. These reminders we get every so often would come up.
And if this girl had a strong personality that would help, but also be just like Diana.

I think there’s a good chance to go either way. And less so for a boy.

No matter what I hope they have a good head on their shoulders.

        Vava
        His girl would be adorable!!

  5. Sarah says:

She looked so beautiful leaving hospital last time around

    • Citresse says:

She’s considering wearing yellow this time.

      • Sarah says:

Grade a gossip! I’m not a fan of yellow… give us a nice purple or green Duchess!

      • FLORC says:

IDK Citresse. That was OK! reporting it. And seems like a safe guess.

      • Citresse says:

Yeah FLORC, yellow a safe colour and doesn’t offer a clue at all.
If Kate has another boy, it seems many people will be disappointed.

      • Vava says:

I’d be very surprised if Kate wears yellow at the photocall. It will be either red, blue, or maybe green or purple. Yellow is not a color she gravitates to – with good reason!

      • FLORC says:

        Vava
The right yellow could be lovely. Still, It’s spring time so your guesses could be the winners.

  6. Laura says:

I also hope that the baby is a girl! Catherine is a beautiful lady and I think her daughter would be equally as lovely.

I think the choice of yellow for her outfit is wonderful. Yellow is my favourite colour and I think it suits a woman with dark hair.

All the best to Catherine as she nears the birth of her second child!

  7. Tough Cookie says:

Gaaaaa…..I hate that St Patrick’s Day outfit in the top pic, she looked like she thought she was on her way to a funeral.

  8. Imo says:

If it’s a girl will Charles clear his schedule to visit her?

    • The Original Mia says:

      Only if William allows it.

    • Imo says:

rubbish. Since everyone believes William is never home that means Kate would have to be under orders not to let Charles visit. Ridiculous. The truth is Charles wants the child brought to him. Like William or not does anyone really believe in this manufactured grandparent war? Just Charles being petulant no more no less. At the end of the day it is no disruption in their privileged lives.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
He’s not “never home”. He’s just more than often accounted for away from his family for large lengths of time.

Everything else seems like assumptions. Charles has a big schedule with only so much time that can be for last minute meetings. Meetings with George have been in there. Just not exclusively noted as such.
Kate’s expenses are covered by Charles. And in the past when he’s asked her to attend an event she seems to be there and properly. I think this whole “Charles hasn’t seen George” stuff is nonsense from slow gossip news.

In the line though it looks like you’ve responded to yourself or more likely a comment was removed. If the latter disregard if you like 🙂

      • The Original Mia says:

If you don’t believe there’s a grandparent war, then why ask if Charles we make room in his schedule. Either he sees George or he doesn’t. I choose to believe George stays with the Midds and doesn’t see his paternal side all that much.

      • notasugarhere says:

“The truth is Charles wants the child brought to him.” You have absolutely no proof or way of knowing that.

      • FLORC says:

        TOMia
Because he’s busy. Really busy. You don’t fit hundreds of engagements a year in without carefully sorting out your appointments.

And I agree. Both both extreme sides and neutral centers all say the same. Goerge is more often than not with Carole. As is Kate.
Though the Windosrs are far more busy than the Midds. That’s not an insult either. There’s just more to the Monarchy than the party supply company and any offshoot investments.

      • Imo says:

        TOMia
Charles not seeing George as much as he says he would like to and then complaining to the media does not a war make. It is just one-sided whining.
        Notasugar
Feel free to mentally preface my comment with “I believe”
        FLORC
Visiting your grandson isn’t a royal engagement. He could/should make the time. and the question isn’t whether or not George spends most/all of his time with Kate/Carole. Of course we know that he does.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
I think we’re going to stand at opposite sides on this one.
Charles isn’t normal. All the Royals are not normal. I mean this in the way of work and leisure. There’s much expected and many balls in the air/juggling a lot.
On top of that I think Charles gets to see George. When he’s brought to functions which isn’t often since a parent would have to bring him and not cancel (which has happen).

If this was a planted story with an agenda here’s my take.
Snice Kate is with George. And Kate is often with her mother. Maybe that’s a passive/backhanded way of saying Kate is always with Carole. Along with the Carole at Anmer Hall caring for Kate and William stories… This is less about Charles getting to see his Grnadson and more about the influence of Carole on Kate and William. Though it seems odd to say the least Carole is very often a fixture in the lives of this married couple. Acting like she’s in charge of their care and the household staff while making the Cambridges their nightly comfort food.

That seems more of the case and far less about George.
You do have to wonder a bit. There’s been much of staff requesting to not work with the Cambridges for their whole marriage and when looking for why all roads lead to the Middletons. Not William or Kate.
        Security/household staff/decor/PR employees.

      • Imo says:

        FLORC
An interesting angle: George as a red herring. I kind of find that worth thinking over.

    • Imo says:

      FLORC
Sounds reasonable to me.lots of media hype although I do believe Charles’ leak backfired. According to internet comments people hate a sense of entitlement more than they even hate Carole.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
I’m skeptical on leaks. Some reporters are absolutely known as the mouthpiece of others. And then they shock everyone by acting like they are no longer the mouthpiece.
And the waters will still be muddled (?) in our lifetime against Charles. His reputation will never fully spring back. Though Carole’s level of entitlement seems on par with the Royals. The use of the RPO’s (before the head quit) and their then new estate renovations mostly covered on tax funds for security upgrades (but much was excess to security needs).

IF he did leak it though it absolutely backfired. And the wording of the whole article seems like the author got really lazy and struggled for sympathetic phrasing.
And “hate” seems a bit strong. I neither hate Charles or Carole. I think they’re deceitful, absolutely.

      • Imo says:

Agree. And I didn’t mean that you display any hatred. I’ve never gotten that vibe from you 🙂 also I place the blame for the Middleton home upgrades on William. He is wasteful and indulgent whether the Middletons benefited from it or not.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
        Thanks!
You’re right to not get that vibe 😀 My Gravitar sums me up. A chipmunk giving another chipmunk a flower!
I do think some direct a lot of angst to Carole and Charles. Hate always seemed to me like the ultimate evil. No reason, but pure ill-will wished on another.

And William yes. Also Charles and the Queen. No one stopped this. And by this I mean Kate moving back in with her parents in their newly purchased home renovated and expanded with tax funds.
And now it’s happened again. Anmer completed, but Kate returning to her parents home and words going contractors have completed new updates for seurity reasons for a few months now. It’s logical for security updates. If beyond that it’s wasteful.
I just get the impression many of the people mentioned on these royal threads (if not all) have no idea of the value being spent. Simply that funds are allocated and have to be spent or risk having the amount decreased next round. There’s generations here and it greatly appears no one is parenting anyone.

      • Imo says:

        FLORC
True. And to be fair both Charles and Diana spent/spend lavishly. If William ever had to work he would know the value of money. The Middletons aren’t lavish in real life. They just know how to put on a good game if it improves their image. On a day to day sense they are relatively economical. I think this is why Kate shops so much. Retail therapy with a limitless credit card – finally.
But everything has a price and real people have to struggle every day to earn the money Charles gives to the Cambridges/Middletons. I just think it is wrong to complain about what Kate spends and then ooh and ahh over Camilla’s wonderful jewelry. It all came from duchy money and Charles is unaccountable for what he does, it seems.

      • FLORC says:

        Imo
Agree fully on Diana. She was a pro marathon shopper.

And the Midds aren’t as lavish as the BRF, but they don’t have the funds to be. They’re secure, but live with debt and once revealed a double mortagage when applying to a home loan for the current residence. I think the place they applied was where Nico currently works or their hedge fund guy works. Hedge fund guy being the owner of the Mustique home they use.
They both know how to appear wealthier than they are, but live beyond their financial limits imo.

Why Kate shops… Not sure. Maybe a combo of limitless funds, boredom, stress, fill a void. She shops for things not needed. I wonder if she had friends or a social life outside of her staff and immediate family if she would spend less? No matter how you split it. I think neither Cambridge understands the money they spend was not earned. Ignorance of that makes it easier o throw around. And just because at one point she had to be thrifty doesn’t mean she understands the value. That comes from having to work, and save, and budget for needed items vs, wanted items.
And imo her shopping wouldn’t be a great issue if it happened even once a week. That it’s nearly a daily occurence (without cause like renovation shopping) draws more attention to it.

And i’ll ooo and aaahhh over Camilla’s jewels. I do not agree with the price, but from another perspective they’re stunning pieces.

  9. Nancy says:

Kate looks like Katie Holmes in that top picture. And I think they lied about their due date – they’ve kept it more secret than the codes for our nuclear arsenal. This is not a private citizen – this family gets public funds, so they owe the public some information about non- sensitive things, which a happy occasion like a birth would seem to be.

William seems to be a pill and Kate is lazy and just goes along. I also think her role gives her great anxiety, and Mommy Carole is not only Williams’s enabler, but also Kate’s backbone.

    • FLORC says:

      Nancy
Technically they owe the public next to nothing of their private lives. And I do agree with that to a point. Though with this couple things get tricky.
They work the least of any senior royal. Even combined I believe it’s still very little. In turn they have the most off balance give to take ratio. Often claiming they can’t work as public figures because they want to remain normal and private. Since their privacy is all they focus on and they still take all the luxuries that are offered for heavily working royals where’s the trade off?
Even their PR sees all they have is to wave a baby around and wear expensive clothes.
But for some public that is enough.

And I think William gves her anxiety. Her role is as she chooses and nothing more.

It’s a girl, chaps. I shall be forced to switch channels from rolling news in 3.. 2.. 1..

  12. Sixer says:

Oh, ok. I’m switching off NOW. But here is my favourite tweet so far:

“The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour and in accordance with protocol, a state of national media sycophancy has officially been declared.”
