Beyonce’s Met Gala rooster tail was a last-minute change in the elevator

As we learned in Beyonce’s utterly stupid New York Times profile earlier this week, Beyonce “has not answered any direct questions for more than a year.” Which means that Beyonce’s “people” are left to pick up the slack in explaining how awesome she is and how she’s the second coming (Beysus!) and all of that. Hilariously, Jay-Z’s stylist June Ambrose sort of threw some minor shade at Bey for her Met Gala look in an interview a few days ago. Ambrose told Page Six: “I love that some people got it and some people didn’t…It was a lot of that sheer, Bob Mackie-inspired pieces, which is not Chinese. You know, they’re musicians. Do they follow rules? Never.” You in danger girl! How dare you say that Beyonce didn’t follow the theme! So of course Beyonce’s hair stylist had to come out and explain how Beyonce’s look was completely fabulous and haters to the left. Except that The Glamming of Beyonce went down in an elevator?!

‘Course sometimes s–t goes down when there’s a billion dollars in the elevator! When Beyonce hit the red carpet at the 2015 Met Gala hours after most of the other stars posed for the cameras, she flawlessly worked her racy Givenchy gown and her high ponytail.

But what most don’t know is that the “Flawless” singer’s effortless look was finalized in the elevator. No, not that elevator, but in the elevator of her apartment building on the way to the swanky event’s carpet. Beyonce’s longtime hairstylist Neal Farinah (of the Neal Farinah Salon in Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood on Fulton Street) was on hand for the quick fix, and exclusively told Us Weekly’s Gwen Flamberg about the last-minute switch up.

“For the Met Ball we did that high ponytail but that wasn’t supposed to be the style,” Farinah revealed. “We did that in the elevator as she was on the way out.”

Originally Bey’s long locks were entirely wrapped up in “an asian-inspired chignon,” but Farinah said the Grammy winner felt the look might be too “costumey,” and made a spur-of-the-moment decision.

“Then we were in the elevator on the way down, and she looks at me and says ‘Neal, I want to change my hair, will you change my hair?’ And I said, ‘Honey, there could be cameras in the elevator,'” Farinah quipped, referencing last year’s infamous “Elevatorgate” in which her sister Solange Knowles got into a physical altercation with her husband Jay Z. “She says, ‘You have 5 minutes.’ And I said, ‘Girl, what do you want me to do with the hair?’ And she wanted a high ponytail. With Beyonce, she looks at herself and she says, ‘This isn’t right, let’s change it.'”

After years of collaborating with Queen Bey for events, music videos, and concerts, Farinah and the chart-topper have formed a close friendship. The longtime stylist greatly admires Beyonce for her comprehensive creative vision.

“Just like everything else we do we come up with a concept and then we present it to Beyonce,” he explained. “She is a powerhouse and she knows what she wants. I have to pay her a compliment. Beyonce takes us all out of our comfort zone, and she pushes us to be the most artistic we can be with her.”

[From Us Weekly]

Girl, you’re going to get fired if you keep making elevator jokes. Elevator jokes will not be tolerated!!

As for her hair drama…on one side, I think a chignon would have been bad with Bey’s dress. On the other side, the high rooster tail was pretty bad too AND it made her look like the Zamunda chick from Coming to America. Basically, when Beyonce wasn’t happy with her look, she should have just stopped everything (including the elevator!!!) and started over. Let’s be honest: Bey’s look-at-ME Givenchy was pretty bad. As was her look-at-MEEEE entrance on the Met Gala carpet more than two hours late.

Oh, and Us Weekly also claims that Beyonce was SOOOO late for the gala because she was online, looking at what everyone else was wearing, and she changed into the Givenchy at the last minute. Bey’s rep deigned to deny that part of the story though.

Just had to bring it back to the elevator. Don’t forget Beyoncé!!!! Beyoncé is still here!!!! Look! Look!

  2. TheBizzla says:

Will someone please tell me what happened with her being pregnant again? Please. I ask nicely. Jay-Z all but announced it, they buried her in the sand, she wore flowy dresses… Am I the only one interested in this mystery?

  3. CariBean says:

These people that believe their own hype…

  4. Bridget says:

I truly hate that hair. It’s Mall Girl, not Met Gala.

    • Livealot says:

I thought it was refreshingly different. I loved it.

    • Anna says:

What’s wrong with a super high ponytail? A lot of black women wear their hair that way. Maybe you just don’t understand it.

Also I’m pretty sure she was trying to go for the Coming to America look, looking like her wouldn’t be a negative thing. Most people loved the comparisons (especially since that movie was so big in the black community), And calling her that “chick” is really demeaning and insulting.

      • KellyBee says:

Lol what are you talking about? And what does not liking B high ponytail have to do with being black?

Guess what I’m black and I hated this hair style in her.

      • annaloo. says:

Anna, does it really have anything to with her being black to slam on a high ponytail? How is calling a hairstyle that was stupid looking in every decade it appeared a racist thing now? It looks like that goofy She-Ra doll Double Trouble’s hair

      • Bridget says:

I’m just going to pretend that Anna didn’t go there.

Also, she gets further points deducted for not even reading my 2 line comment correctly as I certainly never used the word “chick”.

      • CatFoodJunkie says:

If we don’t like her high ponytail (in this instance) it’s because we don’t understand it? What am I missing? I didn’t like her dress, and I did not in this instance like her ponytail. I’m fairly certain there is nothing to understand about it. Enlighten me.

And PS, what massive insecurity to be so disrespectfully late to a social event bc you were looking to see what everyone else wore before you decided on your ensem? I hope that is simply untrue.

  5. InvaderTak says:

Tiring. And beginning to be desperate. Used to her presence was enough of a buzz that she took over the room and got lots of coverage. Now she’s resorting to stunts and placed ads for her weave wrangler.

  6. Inconceivable! says:

I do not believe she changed her hair in the elevator! Beyoncé posted pics to her personal website before leaving for the red carpet as a “sneak peek” for her fans. Not only were the pics heavily photoshopped, but her hair was also already in that I Dream of Jeannie high ponytail. (Isn’t the placement way too high for a chignon anyway?). I’m not sure why they would promote the last-minute hair change in the elevator story, but I am not buying it!!

    • KellyBee says:

I agree and I remember people commenting asking if that was the reason why she was late. Because she was to busy taking photos of herself.

    • jen2 says:

Maybe elevators are now a part of the Met Gala for her. Either fights between her husband and sister or a last minute revelation about hair styles. A whole lot seems to be going on in elevators for her at this event. Where were the cameras when you needed them to see this hair drama or more like trauma, going down!!

  7. darkdove says:

there is no realness in Beyonce she is insecure just like everybody else, she is not a femminist as her or others claim her to be other wise she wouldn`t pull stunts like this dress or have nearly naked women dancing in the background of her music videos, is bad enough man do it why do alleged powerful women do it.

    • AlmondJoy says:

Wearing a see through dress is not in itself an act of feminism but it also doesn’t mean she’s not a feminist. Look up the definition. The way a person dresses or dances has nothing to do with whether or not they’re a feminist.

      • darkdove says:

I know that women that came before us didn`t fight for our rights to have alleged powerful women that should be better examples for young women to dance around nearly naked and be still objectified now, I stand by my earlier statement

      • AlmondJoy says:

Whether she is a good example for young women is debatable. Whether she is a feminist is not.

      • Anne tommy says:

Amen darkdove, sexy feminist fine, trashy feminist not so much…

    • Jegede says:

      It’s staggering.
Beyonce is an immense live performer.
In Europe, she rivals with Pink as someone whose concert you must experience.

She and Destiny’s Child Brit performance on 2000(?) remains a seminal moment cause before then Brits were almost always about guitar music with little attention given to RnB acts.

Her increased insecurity in rivalling limelight strategy with Kim Kardashian, is just wow! for me

      • darkdove says:

i know right she should be above the kardashian classier, but she is very insecure for the type of power she has.

    • Anna says:

I don’t think you have an understanding of what feminism is. Allowing women to wear whatever they want is part of feminism.
And yeah the “women who came before us” wouldn’t have agreed with what Beyoncé was doing because almost all of them were racists who didn’t want black people to be equal to white people.

    • annaloo. says:

  8. Micki says:

I don’t believe a single word. Beyonce, who is a perfectionist has her hair made in the elevator?! On her way out and she was already an hour late?
And Beyonce does not like “costumey”?
I think she’s livid because Rihanna stole the whole thunder and wants us to believe that she’s chosen her dress as an afterthought and her hair style too… For the MET Gala? Too much BS.

    • Wren says:

I think she didn’t get the buzz and adulation she’s accustomed to and thinks she deserves, so went with a “oh, this old thing? I just threw it on” attitude to cover up her disappointment.

      • Anna says:

Lol what? Did you not see most female celebs who have Instagram were all posting that her look was one of the best of the night and their favourite. Most people were talking about her in a positive way. Maybe because you didn’t like it all you’re looking for is the negative comments?

    • Anna says:

Beyoncé and Rihanna were posing together the whole night and hanging out. Stop trying to put black women against each other.

I don’t believe these “insider stories” because we never knew about her secret album at all for a year and people could’ve exposed it at the time but instead since they aren’t truly part of her entourage they make up stories that Beyoncé haters will eat up and that they can sell to magazines.

      • annaloo. says:

        Anna, you must be trolling.

It’s just celebrity gossip, who cares… LOL

      • Jessica says:

Everyone knew about the ‘secret album’ and producers were talking like crazy for over a year. The secret part wasn’t that there was an album, everyone was waiting for it and we already knew a lot about who she’s worked with on it. There was a ton of drama surrounding it. We also knew she was shooting video’s all over the place and had already seen images from some of them, but such is her reputation for self documenting, people assumed they were just for her private collection.

The surprise was that she dumped it like that with no warning. The actual making off the album was one of the most documented and talked about I’ve seen in a long time.

      • Mildred Pierce says:

The ONLY picture that surfaced from that night of them ‘together’ was of Rihanna performing, and Bey looking awkward. Almost as if she had fallen aslepp standing up. Rihanna stole her thunder, and now she is doing damage control because she looked ridic

  9. Patricia says:

I love how this article acts like its this very deep, very important, artistic and life changing decision.
She’s so amazing… She knows when she wants to change her own hair! Can you imagine the depth of insight?!?

    • CharlotteCharlotte says:

Yes, we’re supposed to be in awe of how she can be so boss about her look and so flippant about something as ‘important’ as the Met Gala.

      I’m not in awe.

  10. Greek chic says:

    Solange did her hair?

  11. Size Does Matter says:

Last minute outfit change, what?!? I thought they spent “hours” hand bedazzling every jewel onto the body stocking.

  12. Skins says:

    How empowering

  13. AlmondJoy says:

The hair is what I hated the most about this look. I loved the dress though!

The “Zamunda chick from Coming To America” is Vanessa Bell Calloway and I love her! So gorgeous and talented. She’s been an actress for so long and still looks the same as she did in the movie.

    • boppity says:

Agreed. Beyonce looked amazing in that dress, but the hair just didn’t fit the rest of the look in my opinion.

Vanessa Bell Calloway really does look exactly the same as she did in Coming to America, I can’t believe it. She’s stunning.

  14. LAK says:

Ever since I saw the film character comparison, I haven’t stopped laughing at B’s costume.

  15. Kelly says:

“I think a chignon would have been bad with Bey’s dress.”

Anything would be bad with that dress. She is in no way attractive, stylish or trend setting unless you count lowering the bar for Kim Kardashian trend setting.

  16. TEE JAY says:

She seems so out of touch with reality that she’s lost its phone number.
Bad joke I know. *back to lurking

  17. Anastasia says:

I said it before, it still looks like those dolls whose hair grew when you pressed a button or cranked their arms. Crissy dolls. The hair all grew out of a very high ponytail on the top of their head.

  18. Inconceivable! says:

Has anyone seen a chignon worn so high on top of someone’s head before?! Me neither…that is further proof to me that the ‘I changed my hair in the elevator’ is BS.

    • annaloo. says:

Oh, we know Beyonce is about as upfront and real about her image as they come! LOL

  19. Sofia says:

“the look might be too “costumey”. What? She didn’t even risk that because what she wore had NOTHING to do with the theme.
