Tom Hiddleston: Crimson Peak ‘is really kinky… there’s a sexuality in the film’

TH3

Several new Tom Hiddleston interviews came out yesterday and all of them were conducted last year, on the set of Crimson Peak, as they were filming the movie. Guillermo del Toro must have invited some friendly journalists and bloggers to the set and there was an embargo on printing these quotes until this week. Del Toro really knows how to keep the nerd-flame properly stoked, doesn’t he? Anyway, Collider and HitFix have basically the same interview (highlights below) which you can read here and here. Tommy talks about the “kink” of Crimson Peak and much more.

Signing on to the film after Benedict Cumberbatch dropped out: “Well, it happened very quickly. He called me, my agents called and said, ‘Guillermo Del Toro is going to call you in the next hour’ and he called me and told me the story and he said, ‘Don’t say yes, or no. But I’m gonna rewrite the script this weekend or tonight or tomorrow, and I’m gonna send you a new draft’ and like an hour later Jessica [Chastain] called me and said, ‘You have to do it’ [Laughs] ‘I want you to do it, and Guillermo wants you to do it’ and I was really excited I couldn’t wait to read the script. Then, it must have been like a day later, I got it and I read it immediately in one sitting and he had rewritten the role, so I got sort of my own draft, he had rewritten the part for me in a way. It’s just brilliant, it just is a brilliant screenplay, and I wanted to work with him, I knew that Jessica, and Mia [Wasikowska], and Charlie [Hunnam] were locked in and on board; and I love Mia and I know Jessica from before and I wanted to work with Charlie so there was just no possible way I was going to say ‘no’.”

Working with Guillermo del Toro: “He is amazing. I mean that probably isn’t a secret from anyone else who’s ever worked with him but he’s like this Great Mexican Bear of Passion and Warmth. He’s just so inspiring. He loves his job and I think his working experience and collaboration he’s one of the most inspired and inspiring people I’ve ever worked with.”

His character: “I think he’s the antihero…He’s certainly the most morally ambiguous or complex figure in the story because I think he’s genuinely caught in between people and in between conflicting emotions and is trying to find the best route through a very, very difficult tangle of what people need from him and want from him and he feels what his responsibility is to those people.”

The film is kinky: “It’s really kinky… there is a sexuality in the film which is expressed… And you think you know what it is and then you realize you’re only scratching the surface. So I really can’t reveal more than that. Thomas Sharpe has – and he’s not the only character in the film — but he has a history. I suppose the interesting thing about the film, the story is it’s about the difference between expectations and reality. And each character is sort of projecting certain things.”

Making a horror film: “It’s really scary and what I find is the most playful aspect of acting in a very, very spooky film is that you play against that so it becomes almost is the banality of – everything becomes incredibly normal. And in a way that’s more terrifying. Like I love it when I’m watching horror films and everyone’s acting like nothing is wrong and you know something is around the corner. You’re like, ‘Why is everyone acting like nothing is wrong? There’s clearly something wrong!’ So in a way that’s really fun is to play it very straight, to play it almost as if the action is every day and ‘What could possibly go wrong?’ It’s just an old house, you know, with creaky floorboards. Old house will make old noises.”

[From Collider & HitFix]

In Collider’s version of events, Tom is asked directly about what is “kinky” and he responds, “In my life, in my work, or…? Of course Scarlet Johansson would be ill equipped.” WHAT? God, I would love it if Tommy was that kind of guy. In HitFix’s version, Tom also makes special mention of del Toro’s daughters, saying that they visit the set all the time and they’re “a vital part of the way I function with the world.” They updated his playlists!

Ain’t It Cool also had a new interview with Tom – go here to read.

And here’s the international trailer:

I can’t believe how much I’m looking forward to this film

    • Brin says:

Me too…that trailer was freakin scary!!

    • That makes – god knows how many of us. Just the trailer got me lathered . . .

    • Sarah says:

My God that looks scary. And awesome! Sexy Hiddles makes my heart beat faster.

    • kennedy says:

      Me too!

I’m mostly in it for Chastain and Charlie Hunnam – god, I love them SO much. But the entire cast looks great.

Hoping Del Toro really pulls off a miracle here. He’s veering into one-hit wonder territory and I really do love the man.

      • boberta says:

I’m not sure if Del Toro could ever be considered a one hit wonder (unless you’re solely speaking in regards to the US box office). Pacific Rim might have been his biggest box office success but Blade II was well received and tripled its budget; same with the the Hellboy movies that didn’t make a ton of profit but both did well with the critics. Then there’s Cronos, Pan’s Labyrinth and The Devil’s Backbone which have all received critical acclaim… if anything Crimson Peak looks like a return to what DT does best.

      • Camil says:

You know, I hear of the one hit wonder thing pretty often but the true is Del Toro works in different areas: he’s a writer, producer and as I recall a makeup artist too.

      • MCraw says:

Pans Lab is one of my all time favorite movies and I never pass up the Hellboy movies when they’re on.

        One hit wonder??

This looks like a great horror film, which he’s truly great at. Looking forward to my nightmares when I see it!

  2. t.fanty says:

Let’s just all take a moment and thank the gods that Cumby didn’t do this movie.

    • Sixer says:

      Snigger.

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell starts on Auntie this week. I saw Eddie Marsan talking about this morning – I love that man. Keep an eye out, missy. It’s right up your alley.

      • t.fanty says:

Really? I tried to read the book a couple of times, and didn’t have the patience. I’ll give the TV show a shot.

Speaking of books I’m too lazy to commit to, have you ever read Gormenghast? EsCon says I need it in my life, and I’m thinking that it might be my summer treat.

      • Sixer says:

I love, love, love Gormenghast. Spent forever trying to persuade Sixlet Major to read it to no avail. When he eventually did, he read all three books about five times in succession. I wish I could get back to those all-consuming obsessions you get when you’re young. I was jealous of him.

I think – hope – the TV series will clarify and streamline, because the book is overly ambitious. I love its themes, though. The cast is great and the trailer looks cool. Marsan was enthusiastic, too. I have high hopes!

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I am really looking forward to that! Loved the book (such a doorstop) and the trailer.

      • icerose says:

LOVE Eddie Marsan -Definitely on my watch list

Gormenghast series was close to the top of my college reading list but it is not an easy read.I am a Melvyn Peake fan as well and love complex fantasy fiction (loosely speaking) as well.
They made a tv series of the first book in 2000.

      • kri says:

Loved that book!! I cannot wait til the start of the series. And Gormenghast with JRM. I saw him and I was wild for him. As for Crimson Peak-I will have my purple velvet fainting Lazy-Boy by September, well in time for it to catch me when I dead faint after seeing this film…

      • frisbeejada says:

Eddie Marsan – great actor, Gormeghast – great books, can’t wait for Johnathan Strange and Mr Norrell. AND I’ve got my Woad – this is going to work out this is…

    • Lilacflowers says:

Gods are thanked. Now, back to admiring my husband Thomas’s cheekbones and banishing all thoughts of otter-lizards from this thread.

    • Abbott says:

I dunno. I think he’s proven he can do horror. I mean, we all screamed our way through Benedict’s award campaign last year.

      • mimif says:

BAHAHAHA! You scared me with that first sentence, Abot. I was like first Reek, and now Cumby…? Got me goot.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        BOOM!

      • t.fanty says:

        *snickers*

And nowhere was that point more concisely illustrated than in the Sherlock finger-s*x description. That passage alone gave me more nightmares than the end of this week’s Penny Dreadful. *shudder*

      • Lilacflowers says:

Yikes! Why did you have to bring back the Sherlock fingery thingy? Horrifying and stomach-turning and not the least bit erotic, despite his belief that it was.

      • mimif says:

Going to blissfully ignore whatever Sherlock fingery thingie you are referring to and +1 @t.fanty on the PD ending. Poor little (and so creepy)!

      • j.eyre says:

Fanty, you defile PD with Sherlock finger-banging on a Hiddles thread discussing kink?

*attempts some form of Brando impression* “What have i ever done for you to treat me so disrespectfully”

I am sending you a little present in the mail, i think she will fit in nicely with your other stuffed toys.

      • mimif says:

        TO YOUR ROOM T.FANTY!

      • Abbott says:

We haven’t had a CB barfing flash mob since the Great Clooney Wedding Adventure 2014 (sponsored by Casamigos tequila). Thanks, fanty.

      • j.eyre says:

Oh, nothing ever comes of that, mimif…

      • t.fanty says:

All those evil-eyed dolls just slowly swung their heads around, creaked their little hinged mouth open at me and said in their horrific Edison-doll voices…

        ……

“Eew. Too far, dude. Too far.”

If anybody needs me, I’ll be drinking gin in the library and watching the trailer again. And again. And again.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@t.fanty, and take your Sherlocky-fingery-thingy with you!

      • NUTBALLS says:

The Comet can have all the Otter fingerbanging she can stand. I’ll stay right here in my fantasy with the Hiddledigits giving my undercarriage a good buzz.

    • icerose says:

oh yes -Tom crawling up Mia’s naked body is a sight to behold and Tommy doing his PR bit is a breath of fresh air after all the crap that has been floating around
      http://media.collider.com/collider_audio/crimson_peak_set_visit/tom_hiddleston_crimson_peak_visit.mp3

    • NUTBALLS says:

Every time I’ve watched the trailer, I have done the same thing.

    • icerose says:

Yes to Cumbie’s departure and Tom body crawling in a way that only he can do. Smaug just would nit work in this context

    • Ar-men, as Long John Silver might say!

    • M.A.F. says:

For real. Just going off that one bedroom clip I think Cumberbatch would have ruined it for me. I don’t get sexy feels from him. Hiddleston on the other hand….

      • PrincessMe says:

OMG, I’m so happy that Tom is the one doing this movie. I’m so EXCITED! I don’t ever watch movies in the theatre, but I’m planning on watching this one as soon as it comes out.

    • jammypants says:

      Thank the gods!

  3. Lilacflowers says:

I think the Scarlett line was “mewling quim;” from Avengers, not “ill-equiped” and I think GDT was saying his daughters updated his playlist. Some of the interviews weren’t well edited so it is a bit difficult to track who is saying what.

And this will be in IMAX!

    • icerose says:

you are right -the full interview is floating around somehere-mewling quim is a Shakespeare quote and gets a pass in my books and lets face it if Tom and Josh had kept quiet I doubt any one would have understood it anyway

      • Lilacflowers says:

People googled the term as soon as they left the movie theater. It was one of the most googled terms for a few weeks.

      • icerose says:

I still give it a pass -Shakespeare was full of misogynist type quotes which were deemed except able back then and are still in common usage in productions

      • Kelly says:

It’s not a pass outside of the Avengers movie. Like, he shouldn’t have said that, unless I’m missing something…Scarlet Johanson is a c*&t haha? Why?

Also, the way GDT describes it, I don’t think Sharpe is an antihero.

      • Lilacflowers says:

He referred to the film when he said it.

      • j says:

something’s lost in translation, lol. how would calling a woman a derogatory term be kinky?

    • NUTBALLS says:

The audio was captured on Soundcloud and he mentions calling Scarlett a Mewling quim. The transcriber of the Collider interview did a poor job and someone corrected their mistakes in the comments.

      https://soundcloud.com/daisyjj/tom-hiddleston-crimson-peak-set-interview

      • P'enny says:

typical rush job! it’s not like they had a year to get it right.

      • WaffleHour says:

^ P’enny’s perfect reply is perfect.

Thank you for catching that, Nutballs.

      • Cate says:

Neither do anything for me, but I like their acting.

That being out there, it would have been a different movie so we’ll never know. They did rewrites when they brought Tom and Mia on.

  4. LetItB! says:

    ^ THIS

  5. Damn says:

I’d rather see Charlie in any sex scenes, Tom does nothing for me.

    • Abbott says:

      Yep.

      • mimif says:

        Charlie’s ass > Hiddle’s wittle dragonfly butt.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        Them’s fightin’ words, mimif!

        His butt’s not that little.

        Harrumph.

      • P'enny says:

        slaps mimif hard

      • Sixer says:

        Yes, but…

        Puddletom’s marshwiggle legs > Hunnam’s rugby-player thighs

      • mimif says:

How many times have you watched the trailer, CouchClimber? (Be honest.) I only watched the trailer once and all I saw was a little peach. 😉

      • TotallyBiased says:

But wasn’t it just the most LUSCIOUS peach ever? 😉
ps TrailMix (MtnNutballs, get it? 😉 ) and I are in competition, methinks, for number of views. So we both win.

      • NUTBALLS says:

mimif, I’ve only watched each trailer 2-3 times each and now I’m off them completely. I don’t want to desensitize myself. This rule doesn’t apply to the gifs of Tom climbing up Mia and her groping dat ass, however.

Sixer brings up a good point. Those legs that go one for days… I want to see more of that.

Hunnam looks too benign in this film to turn me on. I want to see him naked in tattoos.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@’p’enny, I would rather slap both those butts hard instead of wasting energy hitting mimif.

      • p'enny says:

        @lilacflowers that’s my girl

however, after freeze framing that scene on HD, I’d rather bite them.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Lilac, you not only need the riding crop, but judging from these interviews, you may need to get the ball gag back from Idris. Tom clearly hasn’t learned the art of the soundbite. I know P’enny will be wanting to curb that loquaciousness when you lend him out to her next time.

I’ll stick to my usual method of giving his mouth something else to do to keep him quiet.

      • icerose says:

        @Penny
I can just imagine a desert of nips and licks-more please

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Nutballs, I thought he was fine in the interviews – he was having questions fired at him from multiple people, many of whom were asking questions at the same time. And that interview with Vespe, well, the interview ABOUT Vespe, ball gags were definitely needed but for the interviewer who wouldn’t shut up.

      • mimif says:

What the ever living peach have you people been smoking? Oh, Hiddle’s pole. I’ll see myself out now…

      • NUTBALLS says:

mimif, is that a repressed attraction to the HiddlePole that I’m seeing? Is all the talk of climbing, kink, fingers, legs & ass coupled with the couch in your fantasies finally getting to you?

      • p'enny says:

@nutballs are you Mtnrunner in disguise? lol

      • NUTBALLS says:

P’enny, shhhhh. I don’t want to be identified with that mtn/couch climber from prior threads. I’m much more shameless in my hussiness than she.

      • mimif . says:

@NUTBALLS, I try and I try to see the hot in Hiddle’s but….it’s just not there for me. Zero. Zilch. Full disclosure: (you’re going to laugh at this too) I’ve never actually seen him in anything. Maybe once I see Crimson Peak, I’ll get it. Standby….

      • p'enny says:

        lmao @nutballs

      • Lilacflowers says:

It’s okay, mimif, you just haven’t seen him in beige booty shorts.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Oh mimif, you are denying yourself unnecessarily. While I put his Sir Thomas Sharpe among the podium contenders, you need to pick up a copy of The Hollow Crown at your local library and see his Prince Hal in Henry IV. If that doesn’t do it, try his Hank V (a part of the same series). I’m not a fan of the gotee, but a lot of Dragonflies are. After that, check out Unrelated (on Netflix), which his first feature film. If that doesn’t do it, see him as the brick shithouse in Coriolanus when it comes back to cinemas via NT Live later this year.

If, after all that, you still don’t feel the lust, then there’s likely no hope for you.

      • mimif says:

That’s quite the homework. I think I wait for the brick shithouse, because that’s more my style, BUTTERBALLS.

        Lmao, typo but it stays.

    • icerose says:

i thnnk he may get a kiss or two but no nudity but I am Tom girl through and through and Hunnam just does not do it for me

      • Ankhel says:

Hunnam is certainly handsome, and a fairly decent actor, but a dime a dozen compared to Hiddleston.

    • meme says:

So would I. I’d like to be in sex scenes with Charlie Hunnam.

    • kennedy says:

Hehe. I keep re-watching Sons of Anarchy and pausing on all of the glorious Hunnam Hump scenes. Man, his butt should have its own Emmy category. It’s magical.

      • meme says:

        All of him is magical

      • icerose says:

Charlie just does not have the body type I prefer slender and athletic to muscle and brawn-always have so he really does not stand a chance with me-plus part from Anarchy he is to action orientated.

    • Ava says:

How about them together….lol just kidding. It’s less about sex and more about something else in that scene I think.mwe shall see when the full movie comes out.

  6. Leah says:

I love his description of Del Toro “Great Mexican bear of passion and warmth.” That boy talks and talks in paragraphs. I think he would be quite a joy to be around but also exhausting after a time…

Damn, the CP trailer reignited my Tommy thirst just when I was ready to move on. He is like a drug.

  7. TotallyBiased says:

Yep, still in my bunk. Gonna be awhile before that beautiful voice discussing kink and those amazing trailers wear off. With any luck, about five months!

  8. Ncboudicca says:

I think Jessica Chastain is going to be great in this. She’s creeping me out in the trailers.

    • t.fanty says:

I don’t get the fuss over her. I think she is utterly the same in everything she does.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Oh, I think her Mrs. Danvers hairpiece will do the heavy lifting! I’m sure she’s talented (can’t remember watching her in anything–no, really!) But I,er, haven’t been paying her much attention here. Beyond the hair. #BecauseReasons

      • A. Key says:

        T.fanty, I totally agree.

      • ncboudicca says:

I’ve never warmed up to her before, but I like the trailer clip where she appears to have blood all over her face and she’s trying to get in (or out?) of a cage (or the elevator?) to get at Mia’s character. She looks cray-cray and I like it.

      • Kathy says:

That’s how I feel about Hiddleston, maybe that’ll change with the Hank Williams thing.

      • kennedy says:

Have you seen her in The Tree of Life and The Help and Zero Dark Thirty? Because those are three VERY different characters and superb performances. She’s the epitome of grace and “mother nature” in TOL and then goes bad-a$$/strong chick in Zero Dark. I love her.

    • Sixer says:

I’m always underwhelmed by Chastain, too. Then I feel guilty, because she seems like a nice gal even if she is a bit precious.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I’ve never liked anything she has been in, but I am always hoping she knocks it out of the park someday for exactly that reason.

      • icerose says:

i saw her at at live screening of Salome with Al Pacino and she was amazing. It was followed by a live discussion with her and Pacino-up until then i was look warm but she impressed on both counts

      • Lilacflowers says:

I liked her in The Help because that character seemed different than other work she has done.

      • t.fanty says:

I like a little moxie as much as the next person, but I do think this is one of those times where people mistake “dour and slightly intense” for “talented” (see also: Christian Bale).

      • icerose says:

she was incredibly sexy and mesmerising in Salome-I could not take my eyes off her

    • Miss Jupitero says:

Definitely read her intèrview! Apparently they needed a chiropractor on set because of that insane wig.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Where is her interview? Is it on the Collider site or somewhere else?

      • NUTBALLS says:

All the Collider interviews on CP are really good. I wasn’t familiar with del Toro outside of Pan’s Labyrinth and I have a huge respect for him after reading his lengthy interview.

      • Tig says:

I love Jessica Chastain- she was so good in both The Debt and Zero Dark Thirty. However, from her appearence in this trailer- all I can see is Cloris Leachman in Young Frankenstein! Not a big horror fan, so will make the call re seeing this come fall. Hope Tommy doesn’t catch grief for the “bear” comment-sarcasm alert in case someone thinks I mean it!!

      • NUTBALLS says:

Lilac, there was a link to both Chastain’s interview (as well as del Toro’s at the bottom).

        http://collider.com/crimson-peak-jessica-chastain-talks-guillermo-del-toro-and-misery-inspiration/

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Lilac, someone beat me to it. Yes, the Collider interview. I just loved all the details she brought up about her character’s backstory, etc. She sounds like such a delight to interview.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I read it and enjoyed it. The interviewer seemed to enjoy it too!

  9. Boston Green Eyes says:

This film looks really good and even though I am not a film-goer, I would like to see this in the cinema – the visuals look beautiful.

I also love Mia Wasikowska (a fellow person with Polish background!) – she was fabulous in Jane Eyre!

    • p'enny says:

Mia hides her Aussie accent well. She was okay in Jane Eyre, a little flat, but not the worst. However, Fassbender made a terrible Mr Rochester.

      • icerose says:

Fassy’s Ronchester was one of the worst i had seen and the film felt anaemic.

      • A. Key says:

No one tops Toby Stephens <3

      • t.fanty says:

        I’ll top Toby Stephens.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Fanty, did i tell you I really enjoyed Private Lives on DT? I think you recommended it awhile back. Been trying to catch as many of those that I can squeeze in.

Can any of you Brits tell me if Fiennes Superman is worth catching on NTL? It’s coming here next month along with A View from the Bridge.

ETA: I just saw that Helen Mirren’s The Audience is coming in the next few weeks. I’ve seen the film version. Is it worth the hour’s drive to catch it in the cinema?

      • t.fanty says:

I’m not the biggest GBS fan in the world (who is, really?) but Fiennes is ALWAYS worth watching on stage. He’s magnetic.

      • NUTBALLS says:

        GBS??

      • t.fanty says:

George Bernard Shaw. There will be a *lot* of talking? My recommendation? Wait for Chewitel Ejiofor’s Everyman (*swoons*).

      • Lilacflowers says:

Have we freed Toby Stephens from Sixer’s clutches?

      • NUTBALLS says:

Everyman is coming here in August… I didn’t see 12 Years since I can’t do torture scenes, so I’m looking forward to seeing Ejiofor in this.

      • A.Key says:

        “I’ll top Toby Stephens.”

        HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA, A+++

      • Ava says:

I am starting to love Mia too. In this she is smart, innocent and sexy. Great combo….

      • icerose says:

        @NUTBALLS
I saw it live with a Canadian friend who was not familiar with Shaw’s work ans she loved it and found it funny. It is a modernised satire and works well on stage.Ralf was very funny and Indira Varma is always impressive.Idid have to explain to someone else it is satire on sexual politics
Do not miss A View from the Bridge -Mark Strong gives an amazing performance and dispute the minimalist staging he had my daughter in tears at the end of the production

      • Marlene says:

t.fanty, I’m the biggest GBS fan! Best sense of humor ever.

      • NUTBALLS says:

icerose, I’m definately seeing Mark Strong in AVFTB. Didn’t he win the Olivier for that performance? I was on the fence with the Fiennes one.

      • k. says:

Disagree. He did the best with what he was given. It’s not simple adapting all that material in less than two hours.Actually Fassbender was praised more than Mia,who was considered by many quite bland.Personally I liked her and the overall adaptation, with that “gothic” tone.

  10. P'enny says:

I recommend listening to the audio, although there were rumours it was taken down off Collider by Universal. I think Tom Hiddleston may have talked a bit too much :-p The way he talks beautifully and thoughtfully about the characters maybe in keeping with DVD release, rather than pre-release of the movie.

Still…. doesn’t spoil it for me, in fact it turned me on!

I have seen the international trailer about 20 times or so. I just in love. Dark Hiddles…

    • NUTBALLS says:

P’enny, it’s on soundcloud. I posted the link above.

      • p'enny says:

fab 😉 I have soundcloud on my phone….. falls asleep to a voice of velvet…’will you be mine..’

      • NUTBALLS says:

I have a much easier time tracking with his longwinded answers when I listening instead of reading, that’s for sure.

  11. Jenns says:

First Jane Eyre, then this. Mia, why you keep getting stuck in houses with crazy people?

    • Lilacflowers says:

Well, in Tracks, she got stuck in the middle of the desert with crazy camels. It is just her lot in life.

    • Boston Green Eyes says:

Yeah, this trailer reminded me of Jane Eyre.

    • p'enny says:

Well she didn’t want to leave the house in Only Lovers Left Alive, Adam chucked her out because she drank Ian.

    • j.eyre says:

You know, the right crazy person can really bring out the “wow” factor in a house, especially if the house has good bones to start with.

  12. bettyrose says:

Hiddles and Hunnam…kink goes without saying. I’m picturing kink right now.

  13. Lilacflowers says:

And this will be in IMAX!

Also, the three different trailers all seem to show the bed scene from different angles. A lot of work went into just that scene. So, we should all watch it many more times.

    • Ankhel says:

True. It would be rude not to.

    • A. Key says:

This being in IMAX is the best part about it

      • Lilacflowers says:

I know, right? I don’t do horror flicks but I’m making an exception for this one (seems like an old Vincent Price throwback). A friend is dragging me the night before to see NTLive’s broadcast of Hamlet, starring some T-Rex, so I’m dragging her to see this the next night. In IMAX. I might make her sit through it twice. Because. Tommy’s naked butt in IMAX.

      • **sighs** says:

Hiddles cute little tush is going to be in surround view? Holy smokes. I’m so glad the hubs doesn’t like horror movies….

      • NUTBALLS says:

That tush will be living large in IMAX.

      • **sighs** says:

Nut balls, do you like to run in the mountains? Or am I thinking of someone else?

      • NUTBALLS says:

Sighs, I have been know to do that. I like to climb mountains and men.

      • p'enny says:

I think that ‘someone else’ 😉 ran off the cliffs in Devon during the filming of The Night Manager, no one told her that running near Hiddles in South West of England was dangerous, especially when I was lurking in the bushes and reversing direction signs to the cliff edge. Now, Lilacflowers and I only have to share with the Oslen witch.

        🙂 #evil laugh

      • NUTBALLS says:

P’enny, I could care less about that MtnRunner chick. I prefer to keep my men inside, where I have incense burning and my furnishings draped in velvet for added comfort and tactile indulgence. Between my chesterfield and divan sofas, chaise lounge and ladyboy recliner, there are plenty of options for my creative and intuitive gentlemen callers.

      • *SIGHS* says:

Sorry, ladies. I live in a lovely beach town, so Tom will be residing here for much of the summer. We all know how much he likes the sand and sun…
        😉

      • Lilacflowers says:

@’p’enny, we’re not sharing with the Olsen witch. I think that was just PR to distract from her sisters getting called out for lying by John Stamos and for showing up at the Met Gala looking like matching goth trolls.

      • Dara says:

No idea if it’s true (part of me hopes it is), but from what I can tell it’s been months since they’ve both been in the same country at the same time, so I’ve got no problem including Lizzie in the ‘share circle’. Still plenty of chances for everyone else to have their turn.

      • icerose says:

Tom still pops in for nibbles on the quiet and we have put a new interpretation on lick and polish

      • Anne tommy says:

I hope that the reference to a ladyboy recliner is a typo nutballs, or it’s getting seriously dirty….

      • NUTBALLS says:

Anne tommy, I’m hiring you as my editor. Ha. It’s dirty enough without that typo dontcha think? I mean, icerose and her nip licking, P’enny and her ass biting, hell, it’s hard keeping up with the baudy broads on these threads.

  14. Betti says:

Can’t wait to see this. And as others have said am so glad bendy pulled as he has the sex appeal of a wet otter.

Having seen them both in person -Tom ALL. THE. WAY. He’s hotter in person. Swoon.

  15. A. Key says:

I forgot how pumped up and excited he is about his work and projects, it’s nice to hear.

  16. Dani says:

    He’s quite the rambler.

  17. InvaderTak says:

So nix taking my baby brother to this for his birthday in October. I’ll just have to go by myself then.

  18. Jeez says:

That Collider interview is exhausting and not in a good way.

  19. betsy says:

So why didn’t Guillermo rewrite the script for Cumberbatch if he wasn’t happy. I don’;t get why he rushed to do it for Hiddleston but not Benedict.

    • J says:

i dont think it went like that? gdt was revising it the entire time, and then just made more adjustments after stone and bc dropped out. like it was constantly changing

honestly he originally wrote this movie with the guy he wrote some really crappy movies with in the past. i’m waiting for critic reviews on this one before i pay for movie tickets

      • p'enny says:

Actually Lucinda Coxon was later brought on board and she edited and rewrote the new script.

Coxon adapted Crimson Petal and White for BBC a Victorian Gothic steamy thriller. It was very good.

      • J says:

that’s what i though too but GDT makes it sound like they’ve just be doing revisions as opposed to overhaul

im just being cautious. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark was so bad, lol.

      • Sadly says:

Coxon’s not being credited at all, so my guess is they didn’t use much if any of her work.

    • jammypants says:

He rushed to Hiddleston because Cumberbatch dropped it. Simple as that. The script was always being rewritten throughout the entire process.

      • icerose says:

the interview makes it very clear it was re wirtten to suit Tom-in fact he gives them very specific details about their character a as well-and he approached Tom’s agent with in 72 hours as his next choice

      • jammypants says:

I love that his daughters suggested Tom. I like his daughters’ taste.

    • Lilacflowers says:

“So why didn’t Guillermo rewrite the script for Cumberbatch if he wasn’t happy. I don’;t get why he rushed to do it for Hiddleston but not Benedict. ”

Why should he have rewritten it for Benedict? What’s so special about Benedict that GDT should have to rewrite something to his liking? GDT was re-writing the script because Jessica Chastein chose the Lucille role and he wanted to build it up for her. They had worked together before and he wanted to give her more to do, to showcase her. BC left GDT in the lurch and he needed to find another actor and he was trying to recruit Tom on the suggestion of his daughters (and apparently, others assigned to the project). He wasn’t going to send a script he wasn’t using at that point. Tom just happened to be the first to see the script that had been rewritten because GDT was trying to recruit him. He needed to fill that part. The script got several more rewrites as they were filming. By all accounts, both GDT and Legendary were thrilled with the actor they got. Directors do not have to cater to Benedict Cumberbatch if they don’t want to do so.

      • Wow says:

It’s obvious the OP was confused and thought they’d done a special rewrite for TH and not BC. Your reply is a little OTT.

We’ve established no rewrites were done at either of their requests, and neither are special snowflakes.

      • Lilacflowers says:

That OP frequently appears on threads about TH projects with similar comments. .

      • icerose says:

It seemed clear to me from reading the entire interview that he tweaked the role for Tom which does not seem unreasonable with a definite pull our from Benny. And that also came up in the Del Toro’s interview at the con last year, I suspect there had been on going discussions before they went public with Benny leaving and it was just a matter of setting the wheels in motion after Benny left. Del Toro also asked Tom not to make a decision before he had seen the new script.
It does not matter why Benny left-Tom will be just as good if not better-it was the lack of explanation which left it all up in the air and people were bound to wonder why.

      • jammypants says:

@ice, some will never be happy, even with official statements. They’ll claim, oh that’s the official version. Well it doesn’t matter at all anymore. The film is made already with a different actor who is COMMITTED (important word here) and it does not star Ben.

      • J says:

that’s just normal. if a script isn’t finalized, you’re going to tweak main roles each time you cast.

people just assume creative differences or whatever means huge script disagreement when it can mean anything under the sun. like mia is real young looking, whereas Stone looks her age, maybe he was thinking he’d come off like the atonement pedo. he couldn’t have promoted properly it anyway, with hamlet.

      • M.A.F. says:

Didn’t GDT and Chastin go see Tom while he doing Coriolanus? I’m sure from those meetings the script was revised, which as others have pointed out, isn’t new. Scripts are rewritten even while filming. GDT also edits as he films so even then the script would have been touched in some way.

    • Ava says:

I don’t think people realize how many amazing movies were supposed to have someone else in the lead Molly Ringwald was to be in pretty women, John Travolta in Forrest Gump, Emily browning as Bella in twilight. It happens all the time. People only make a big deal because its Cumberbatch….

      • J says:

i see this all the time when actors move in and out of projects, not just cumberbatch.

it’s actually because the media follows and reports early casting and changes, and studios use casting news for early promo. you used to not hear about it until well after the fact if ever

      • Lilacflowers says:

Shirley Temple in The Wizard of Oz. Ronald Reagan in Casablanca. No. Just No.

      • jammypants says:

I see some snarkiness in places where Mia Wasikowska would drop roles and Kristen Stewart would be the replacement. It happens everywhere.

    • icerose says:

probably because Benny wanted out and Del Toro dis not want changes that did not work within his vision of the film

    • Miss Jupitero says:

My understanding was that it was always being rewritten– the early version of the script, the one that was leaked, really wasn’t very strong. Everybody wanted to amp it up. It wasn’t just for Tom.

      • icerose says:

Del Toro made a point of asking Tom not to decide until he had re written Tom’s part so i think it was very tom oriented

      • Miss Jupitero says:

And maybe also because he was already aware of the script’s faults. In any case, people who saw the original script all pretty much agreed it needed a bit of work.

  20. Miss M says:

Hunnam and Hiddleston?! Sign me up!

  21. jammypants says:

Can we move on from mentioning Cumberbatch dropped the role? It’s not his anymore. It’s Tommy’s now and he made it his own. The less association the two have together the better!

    • **sighs** says:

Notice that he sort of glided over that topic….

    • p'enny says:

As much as I’d like that too, the fact that these two interviews on Collider and Aint it Cool news have started with,” So Benedict dropped out…” it’s pure clickbait and no journalist, sadly, is going to drop it. [let alone the fans grrr, saying that the competition between the two fan bases has cooled down? God, I hope]

I give Hiddles his due, he isn’t sniping about it being rubbed in his faced yet. But, he soon may drop a snide comment or two. After all, Bendy dropped a couple of snide comments towards Tom last year when he got tired of the name dropping. #coughjunglebookcough

      • jammypants says:

His bitchiness is misguided. It’s not Tom’s fault people ask about him. Otterbatch is just as bitchy as Martin Freeman is about him!

      • Sami says:

Both were obviously jokes and not mean-sprited to me. Hell, didn’t he include himself in the zygoma one?

      • P'enny says:

no they weren’t mean spirited, i do believe they are good mates. But, I believe that Hiddles is capable of letting loose a snide comment if he is pushed long enough and this film promotion has a long way to go.

      • icerose says:

Tom generally does not use snide comments-but Benny had a tough time from the MTV guy who loves Tom and kept bring him up in an interview and he got a bit snarky. He also then he made some comments about Tom on a radio interview as well but my impression is that it just washes over Tom and their friendship is pretty firm.

      • josa says:

I felt sorry for Emma Stone, no one cares that she dropped out too.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Unless the ghost of a t-rex otter is causing all the commotion, I second jammypants’s motion.

@’p’enny, I have often found BC to be snide towards Tom (and others) and it goes unanswered. (The zygoma comment, the Jungle Book crack) That’s just the way they are.

    • Abby says:

Agree 100% about not dragging one in with the other all the time, but there’s such immaturity in both fandoms, I don’t know if that’ll ever stop.

      • jammypants says:

Sad and true! Ben is nesting and behaving so I think we can take it easy.

    • EN says:

I like both Tom and Ben. And I think it would be an interesting discussion topic to compare what Tom&Mia had done with the movie and how it would’ve been different with Ben&Emma.
They are all so different, but in the end either version of the movie would’ve been great, I have no doubt. But it would’ve been different.

      • jammypants says:

Since the character is American, I wonder if Emma would put on the old world American type of accent. I like Emma, but she looks quite modern! I have no clue how Ben would have done honestly. Only thing I can go by is from Del Toro. He said Ben dropped it because it’s too similar to his past characters. Not sure which!

      • EN says:

        > He said Ben dropped it because it’s too similar to his past characters. Not sure which!

Somebody said it was similar to “Atonement” character. But then I am not seeing Tom playing that type of a character, so the role was probably adjusted for him.

      • Josa says:

I wonder which role Emma signed up for. She was onboard since Jan. Jessica signed on 3 months later. According to Jessica, she got to choose between the 2 roles and everyone thought she will choose the protagonist but she picked the antagonist. It didn’t sound like Emma had the role of Edith until Jessica declined it. I can’t imagine Emma doing Lucille at all, but if she was offered Edith, then why did they let Jessica choose?

      • jammypants says:

I think Emma was meant for Edith, who is an American character.

      • Lilacflowers says:

There don’t seem to be any teen-aged girls running around in this so I see no similarities to Atonement

      • Kay says:

In the original script, yeah. Older man who’s a creeper, younger woman. I know Mia is 26 but she looks so young, dang.

  22. Abby_J says:

Nope. Nope. Nope. Not even the lure of naked Dragonfly king booty can get me to see this. I’d have nightmares for weeks.

Now, if Tommy will come sit with me and hold my hand while I watch between my fingers covering my eyes, I might make it through………

    • Lilacflowers says:

Just so you know, it is killing me that I’ll now have to wait another 4-5 months for another episode of Elementary.

      • Abby_J says:

Oh honey, I feel the same. I am so pleased that it got renewed! I tried to get my wee girl to watch Emma with me today for a Jonny Lee Miller fix, but she was bored by it (too young!) and disappointed in the lack of Hulkie.

Whenever you want to borrow Jonny, just let him know. We all share Tommy, I suppose I can share him too. 🙂

  23. betsy says:

It looks to me like Chastain has the juicy role. A bit like Hardy playing second fiddle to Theron in Mad max.

    • jammypants says:

More power to female driven roles! And Mia is the lead 🙂

      • icerose says:

sounds like the females have strong roles but Tom is pivitol to the storyline-Charley’s’s role sounds a bit weak

      • Josa says:

Charlie did an interview not long ago, and he said he wasn’t in CP a lot, it’s mostly Mia, Tom & Jessica.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

My take all along has been that this is going to be a Mia/Jessica focused film.

      • Lilacflowers says:

As much as I’m looking forward to Puddletom in all his gothic romance glory, I am looking forward to the scenes between Jessica and Mia. The two of them bouncing off of one another’s performance should be great.

    • jammypants says:

Since we’re mentioning Mad Max, I really want to see that film as well. I’m mostly in it for Theron and Hoult. Hardy is a delight as well.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I’m reading reports that Theron owns it. I wasn’t even interested in seeing it, but now I’m pretty sure I will.

Saw Ex Machina today — beautifully shot psychological thriller. Oscar Isaac is creepy and Alicia Vikander was better than expected.

      • M.A.F. says:

I love the fact that by all reports Theron just slays in the film and it’s pissing of the men activist groups. Ex Machina looks good too but I think I might wait for that to hit DVD.

  24. Lilacflowers says:

As I said on the thread about the trailer, can we get these four in a filmed version of a Noel Coward play? Maybe set in Joss Whedon’s house?

    • icerose says:

Coward needs female leads with bite and have the ability to hit the humour and sophistication-Anna Chancellor comes to mind but Mia comes over as i we bit immature.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Anna Chancellor just did a stage production of Private Lives. I think Mia could do it.

      • icerose says:

not convinced re Mia–she lacks sophistication. I liked her in OLLA but Jessica would manage Coward better.
        Hay Fever might work well.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I can picture Jessica doing Noel Coward, not Mia.

  25. P'enny says:

    oooh High Rise gossip
    twitter.com/christianhodell/status/599215612066422786/photo/1

  26. Ginger says:

Watched the trailer again! Oooph! Can’t wait til October!!!

  27. Joanie says:

I’m sad that Cumby dropped this. I have a feeling he might be, too.

    • J says:

i was just saying above he’d have been screwed if he had kept it. the heavier promo would be during the hamlet run

      • icerose says:

Does not wash with me-Tom is just as busy if not busier and Hamlet once its started will not be that labour intensive -Tom was doing PR /adverts etc during Coriolanus and included signings as well which Benny is not doing.

      • Lilacflowers says:

There are others in the cast who would handle the promo.

      • j says:

you’re still obligated to promo. if you can’t do it almost at all, which is what would happen here specially since it’s being pushed in the US, don’t rely on your castmates to pick up all your slack imo

and icerose, we’ve no idea what’s intensive or not for whoever, and hamlet is 2x a day.

      • Jill says:

Looks like he’ll be doing Hamlet twice a day, prep for Strange and having to do whatever he’s supposed to for Black Mass. Being tied to London 6 days a week would be make it hard to do all the US stuff coming down the pipe for CP just logistically, so yes, it’s best from that angle and others he dropped the role.

      • -- says:

Looks like he’ll be doing Hamlet twice a day, prep work for Strange, since it now shoots in November, and having to do whatever bit he’s supposed to for Black Mass. Being tied to London 6 days a week would be make it hard to do the US stuff coming down the pipe for CP just logistically, so yes, it’s best from that angle and others he dropped the role.

      • icerose says:

According to the Barbican site he is only doing a Saturday matinee and a few specials for schools etc.And I have friends who work regularly on the west end so I do understand the pressures.Actors often work with 2 matinees a week as with Coriolanus and RSC
I have never known a Shakespearian production to do daily matinees with out a cast change,
My memory is that the actual casting for Strange came after he dropped out of Crimson Peak.So it does not wash with me.
I am not that bothered re why or when he pulled out-but so far unlike when Charlie pulled out of Shades of grey Del Toro is the only one who has offered a reason.
I think Tom is now a better fit especially as he playing Chastians younger brother because I always assumed Benny would play the older brother to Chastian

        “Mon–Sat 7.15pm
(except Tue 25 Aug, 7pm start)
Matinee performances 1.30pm every Sat from 15 Aug
I have a matinee ticket so I can double check if there arr any other matinees.

        Approx 3 hours/including one 20-min interval

      • Cam says:

Just going to casually point out we have zero way of knowing without being privy to his behind the scenes schedule as well, so…this talk of washing and not washing is pointless. You don’t know, and no amount of copying play times will tell you.

      • Dara says:

@cam, I agree there is no way to know for sure what is actual schedule is like, but we can – for the Hamlet portion at least- make educated assumptions. Every theatre that is an Equity house (I assume the Barbican is one those) has strict rules governing when and how much the union members (actors and crew) can be required to work on behalf of the production. Call times, rehearsal hours, costume fittings and even lunch breaks are all subject to those rules.

I’m not suggesting it won’t be a grueling production, but neither is it forced labor or 18 hour days.

      • Cam says:

That doesn’t help with the rest of it, Dara. Plus he can waive certain rights if he wants to.

Personally, seems Stone and him walked because GDT was struggling to fix the script and the filming date moved twice. Yes, I know she cited scheduling conflicts, but they weren’t any for certain at that time or later at all. GDT is a great director, screenwriter though…just Pan’s.

      • icerose says:

i need to phone the Barbican re my ticket and will ask re matinee scheduled but doing two performances a day would hit union issues.
And for the record 7performances per week plus two matinees of Shakespeare is not considered a strenuous production-actors do it all the time at the RSC and the Globe. The only other factor is how physically taxing the staging is and Hamlet is probably one of the less physical productions but we will see in August

      • Cam says:

Doesn’t change my original point, icerose: none of us know what else he’s doing while he’s doing Hamlet, so….

      • Lill says:

Wouldn’t matter if he can do the play 5x a day standing on his head. It would be irresponsible to fly out of country to do promo. Rehearsals, sure, but not during the August to November run.

      • Lilacflowers says:

May I just point out to those asserting that BC pulled out of Crimson Peak because the promo would interfere with multiple daily performances of Hamlet, which has suddenly become the most grueling play ever, at the time he pulled our Legendary had not scheduled a release date for the film and BC had not signed to do Hamlet. So much for that theory. However, the fact that he had signed for Hamlet didn’t keep him from signing onto Black Mass, which clearly would be released in fall 2015. Most likely, he backed out because he was hoping for a part in Star Wars, which would overlap filming with CP. He isn’t in CP. Or Star Wars

Now, can we turn our attention to the two delectable actors who actually are in the film?

      • icerose says:

@Lilacflowers Exactly what i was saying. If you are looking at productions that need stamina -musicals are often more physically taxing.
The only reason people speculate re Benny is that he never actually gave a reason himself as to why he pulled-and to be fair that was his right. It just fuelled the speculation,
The deed however is done and Del Toro seems more than happy with Tom f”””g Hiddleston as he has said on several occasions back at comic con

      • An says:

Actually, Star Wars didn’t have a filming date yet. He dropped Crimson Peak months before they set the SW film date.

But at the time he pulled out of CP, LCOZ was tentatively set to start filming right smack in the same time period as CP, and he was still attached.

Anyway, who knows? Back to TH.

  28. k. says:

I’m not fond of his acting,to be honest,by I’m looking forward to High-Rise. I’m not impressed by Crimson Peak’s trailers. Let’s see.

  29. Me & Myself says:

Clint Mansell did the soundtrack for Crimson Peak and High Rise, and his manager is Jane Arthy. I think the rumor of Tom and Elizabeth is untrue, I bet he’s still dating Arthy. Anyway, I can’t wait to see Crimson Peak, I love scary movies.

    • Waitwhat says:

Actually, the Crimson Peak soundtrack is being composed by Fernando Velazquez. They just used part of Mansell’s ‘Noah’ score for the temp track for the trailer, which is done all the time. His Lux Aeterna has been used repeatedly. And I’m pretty sure Mansell doesn’t need a Hiddles connection to be chosen for a soundtrack.

    • A.Key says:

omg, THE RETURN OF THE JARTHY

      • NUTBALLS says:

The Jarthy. Sixer would be so very happy.

As May bleeds into June, it time for JA’s annual snapshot with the Puddletom, dontchathink?. Is it too much to hope for her triumphant return? That would make for some fun news. More interesting than the EO gossip.

      • Madly says:

I love all these rumors based on nothing. He actually acts like a very single man to me going by a lot of the bafta photos and swinging free at a wedding.

      • A.Key says:

He pretends to be single, but in reality he’s secretly nesting with JARTHY.

        You know nothing you fools.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Yeah, Madly he was swinging free alright… with me, icerose and p’enny. It’s all documented in detail here on CB, so you know it really happened.

  30. NUTBALLS says:

Anyone know what happened to Torilla? The site is gone girl.

    • A.Key says:

      WTF, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    • Dara says:

I’m trying really hard not to panic right now, but I’m not sure I’m succeeding. Just the thought of that site being gone for good is more frightening than any of the Crimson Peak stuff in the last few days.

The theory making the rounds among the Tumblr-ites is that they (Tumblr that is) pulled the plug due to a copyright complaint. But why squash the entire blog and not just request the removal of the specific material is a mystery. It happened to another Hiddleston blog but that was about audio infringement and I assumed it was an extreme case. At this point, who knows.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Dara, I agree. Why not just ask (s)he to remove the copyrighted material? I know that (s)he did have a link to the soundcloud audio file, but since the audio file is still out there, that doesn’t seem to be the reason. I hope (s)he will resurface and tell us what happened or start a similar blog under a new name. Those of you with the stomach for other blogs, keep us posted here ok? That was the only TH blog that didn’t incite me to toss my cookies or roll my eyes into the back of my head from the squeeing and fawning.

      • Dara says:

@Mtn (or can I call you Nutty?), Torrilla was about the only reason I joined Tumblr in the first place, and if she doesn’t come back I’ll certainly be hanging around over there much less often.

I think that Team Tom will miss her too, even if they don’t realize it right away. Having a consistent, centralized source for high quality images and information keeps his fans engaged during the long gaps when he’s off working and virtually invisible. And you’re right, scrolling through all the squee-ing and drooling to find the occasional gem is just too much – even for a super-fan like me.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Dara, call me anything you want… Nuts, Nutty, Mtn, Balls, Ballsy, NuttyMtnBalls… I answer to a variety of names.

I did have a good laugh at the tom is monochromatically fabulous site. Perhaps I need to visit that one again, just for kicks.

      • Catherine says:

She was a repeat offender re copyright breaches which is apparently why the blog was closed.

      • icerose says:

apparently the closure was down to the Night Manager set photos of Tom eating etc

    • P'enny says:

whaaaat? nooooooooooooh i bet Getty have bought her down, she/he had a inside link to the best HighRes pics. Sad day for us. 🙁

    • Miss Jupitero says:

How odd. It also looks like NW3 closed up shop at the same time.

      • M.A.F. says:

Eh, no big deal on that tumblr. She only came along thanks to that other tumblr and she was more of a stalker if anything.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I didn’t think she was a stalker, but she seemed to enjoy being known as the one who could see Tom’s front door from her window. I can appreciate her wanting to counter that other awful blog, but she was ambivalent as to what to post regarding his movements in the area. While she may have waited until hours later to post about a sighting, the fact that she would confirm when he was home encouraged the stalking at his house and the coffee shop. Not cool if you say you want to protect his privacy but then tell the whole world you’ve seen him in the neighborhood earlier that day.

      • Catherine says:

That was probably because of the crap she was getting about the EO sightings.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I appreciated her lack of negativity, but I can only imagine the asks she received. Also, who really wants to keep something like this up? People went there for dish, and she didn’t want to participate. Time to find a hobby.

      • M.A.F. says:

That chick was always camped out at that cafe and she changed her story so often on the sightings that she couldn’t keep them straight. She went safe with the curvy brown hair girl because over time fans believed that was his type. She didn’t have any more truth to her than that Town Bicycle site.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I wonder if NW3 got shut down for the same reasons as Torilla. I saw her farewell post and it looked pretty abrupt.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I think she meant well, she was pleasant, but now that I think about it there was a lot that was fishy and weird. She was very much afraid of being “found out.” She seemed to know way too much about the crowd of fans who hang around that coffee shop and hope to see Tom. Who has time for all of this? She said she was not an obsessed fan, but who else would go to all this effort?

I think NW3 got cold feet and closed up of her own accord. Some of those asks were obnoxious. Torrilla was actually shut down. Turns out the reason why she was so ahead of the curve in getting photos before everyone else was that she was actually buying them. This would explain why Tom’s PR people were so cooperative in hooking her up with sources. Actual money changed hands. I can only imagine what she spent.

Well, then she published something she hadn’t purchased, and now she is shut down. I don’t know if this is Luke doing his job or someone else, but it certainly is a warning shot to anyone else who wants to publish unauthorized photos.

There is a reason why all these people live in nice houses, guys.

      • M.A.F. says:

I hope somehow Torrilla comes back. She never posted her own comments and thoughts, just the photos which was nice. I think that audio interview is what got her in trouble in the end but I don’t think it was Luke that got her shut down. As for NW3, yes, she was a pleasant change from TOBY as far as comments but I do remember several people pointing out that this NW3 more than likely wasn’t the “original” poster from TOBY. I don’t know why she got shut down but I don’t recall her ever posting photos or anything along those lines, just her own two cents about everything.

      • et alors says:

Torrilla herself says it wasn’t the Collider audio interview. There’s a screencap going around Tumblr of a cease and desist letter indicating that it was due to pictures from The Night Manager filming, specifically the set that includes the pictures of him eating.

      • Absolutely says:

Hmmm…then I wonder if it wasn’t his people at all but the production company re: torilla. I didn’t read that other tumblr so I don’t have any idea what was going on there.

      • Dara says:

@Absolutely, my bet is either the photographer or the agency that was repping the photos. The production company wouldn’t care – free press for them, and there was nothing there that was especially newsworthy or spoiler-y. Same goes for Tom’s PR. Torrilla had probably received other warnings and Tumblr finally pulled the plug, it just happened to be those particular shots that were the final straw. I have nothing but affection for Torrilla but wish (s)he had erred on the side of caution to stay up and running. Some photos are better than none, which is where we are now.

Commerce wins out in the end and I get where the photog/agency is coming from. There’s not much demand in the first place for pap photos of a somewhat-minor celeb stuffing his face on set and they were up on Tumblr so fast no press outlet had the chance to buy them as an exclusive.

      • M.A.F. says:

The pictures of him eating? That is what got her in trouble? Paparazzi shots?! HAHAHAHA. That is too funny. Then maybe it was Luke, Tom doesn’t like people seeing him eat.

But seriously, she paid for the Pap shots of when he was in Toronto filming CP. I can’t see her now going “rouge” and not paying for those. Maybe she didn’t list credit?

      • Dara says:

@M.A.F. – she didn’t credit a lot of the pap shots she posted, which was a bit of a giveaway something wasn’t quite kosher since she was so scrupulous when sourcing/linking other things. It really is too bad, and I hope she comes back (the last message/tweet I saw from her said she wasn’t sure what she was going to do). I’d be happy with fewer good photos that I know are honestly obtained than lots of photos where some are ‘iffy’.

      • Absolutely says:

Dara- that makes a lot more sense. Don’t mind me….la la la

      • Dara says:

@Absolutely – when has anything in celeb-land ever make sense? And you could just as easily be right…I do have a horrible track record when it comes to these things. Usually the more I’m convinced I’m right the worse the odds are that I actually am. And since @M.A.F.’s theory about Tom being an undercover eater gave me the giggles, I might just change my mind and go with that instead.

      • Lilacflowers says:

BBCOne has been sporadically posting its own behind the scenes pictures of The Night Manager (not as frequently as it promised). Doubtful the BBC would appreciate others doing the same. The warning probably went to Tumblr, which would then act to protect itself by cracking down on any members not complying with its rules.

Never been to that other blog that’s been shut down.

      • et alors says:

From what I’ve been able to gather, Torrilla paid for the TNM pictures but violated the agency’s terms of service by sharing them publicly.

      • Dara says:

@Lilac, the Beeb has posted exactly 3 bts photos of The Night Manager, a photo of a script cover, a photo of a camera slate, exactly 1 that showed an actual person in it, and nothing at all since that photo of Tom in Switzerland in March. Chances are they are waiting until closer to the release date, but they really shouldn’t have teased it that early if they weren’t going to follow through. I’m a bit peeved with them to be honest.

All of the other TNM photos have come from passers-by, local news outlets or the one AMC exec that visited the set. Oh and that set from the pro photographer in Devon, which was hardly earth-shattering.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Dara, I’ve been quite exasperated with the Beeb’s lack of coverage, after they promised. I mean, I’m enjoying all the pictures of Idris they’ve been posting but I want some more Night Manager stuff too, but they still would have rights over certain material and they still would have enough clout to frighten Tumblr. If she bought them from somewhere but violated the terms of her agreement, whoever has the rights could tell her to take the individual pictures down OR go to Tumblr with a threat, which would get her blog closed.

      • Dara says:

@Lilac, I’ve been trying to politely make the point on Tumblr that whomever lodged the complaint with Tumblr was probably well within their rights to do so, and Tumblr must have thought those complaints had merit or the site would still be up.

A lovely individual (using a lot of CAPS), responded to my comment and called the photographer a despicable human being who was morally bankrupt for even taking the photos in the first place, and she never, ever enjoys seeing paparazzi shots because they are a horrible invasion of privacy. She also implied I was a demonizing our dearly departed blogger because I dared to defend a photographer who was legally doing nothing wrong. I was doing nothing of the kind, but whatever.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Dara, from what I have seen from my few ventures to blogs other than Torrilla’s over there, politeness, logic, and common sense are in short supply. Fairy tales, both of the unicorn and nasty adult persuasion, abound.

      • Dara says:

@Lilac, agreed. There are only a handful or two of Tom-centric blogs over there that I find enjoyable. Usually I don’t engage with the rest, but I broke my own rule and got sucked in when I didn’t intend to.

btw – I’ve been meaning to tell you that I think your choice of Colin as designated host was an inspired choice. I was at a party a few weeks ago and a fellow guest shared a story about the time his daughter was invited to the Firth house for dinner. I’m not sure his daughter would appreciate me sharing the details in such a public forum so I’ll refrain from going that far, but suffice to say Mr. Firth was the very epitome of grace, charm and good hospitality. I am well and truly smitten. I do hope that’s the Colin we’ve been referring to all this time or I will have to adjust my mental image big-time.

  31. queen says:

I also think he’s still with arthy. They just keep it a secret. I wonder if they make an apearance at wimbledon this year.

    • Miss Jupitero says:

I suspect that he and Arthy have an understanding and an ongoing arrangement that they keep strictly under wraps. Doesn’t sound like the most dignified arrangement to me, but maybe it is exactly what she wants. I would love it if there were another photo just to watch the fans explode. The EO rumor sounds off to me, but this might be because I find her to be extremely bland.

      • queen says:

I bet he wants to keep the cray crays away from her. Remember what happened last year? She had to mmake her twitter aCcount private etc. Then an article about jewelery , a ring after her bora bora holiday – where i think he proposed to her. Yet, he knows he will sell himself better being single or pretending to be single.

      • P'enny says:

        @queen lmao – errr, no

      • *s.i.g.h.s* says:

I’m with miss Jup– I think it’s a very convenient fwb arrangement. Except I doubt that it’s what she wants, more like what he wants and she goes along with it.

      • NUTBALLS says:

If they’re still seeing each other, I doubt it’s anything more than an fwb / open arrangement. Ideal for him, lousy for her. I’m with sighs… I don’t know of any woman who wants an occasional lover for the few weeks a year her man’s in town or taking a holiday. A woman might accept that situation until someone better / more stable comes along, I suppose.

If he finds someone willing to deal with his long absences for years on end, he outta put on ring on that ’cause that some serious long-suffering commitment to him.

      • Madly says:

Ugh, first there are all these stories of him with EO, then he is back with JA then he is possibly gay. May I submit that no one really knows what is going on? (Except his harem in here of course.)

And can he really be your man if he is only an occasional lover in an open situation?

Kinda think his leading relationship is with his hand.

My two cents for what it is worth, I don’t think he is in love with anyone right now. He seems to be the kind of guy where when he is in love he can’t help himself, crazy fans or not.

      • icerose says:

I have friends who actually prefer to live on their own and see their FWB buddies twice a week, have help with dog care and DIY if that and no one even see it as strange. They are often very attractive women who prefer solo living s do their men.
Not everybody likes a live in relationship.

      • A.Key says:

“Kinda think his leading relationship is with his hand.”
        😀 <3

      • Kate says:

Seems kinda yukky if that’s the case to me. Great for him, not great or that respectful honestly to her.

[Nice try, icerose. He’d grind puppies and you’d be telling us they deserved it 🙂 It’s okay if he’s flawed, lol]

      • icerose says:

@Kate nothing flawed about choosing the type of a relationships that work for you.Flawed is being unable to understand that not everyone has to fit into the boxes that people think they should.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Madly, of course no one knows. It’s fun throwing out the theories tho’ isn’t it? It’s interesting how different people view the same situation with what two photos (perhaps three) of two people and come to different ideas of what’s going on.

      • icerose says:

yes Nutballs my point-we live the lives we choose not what others think they should because of a more boxed view of a relationships .
That is the secret to me and Tommy’s relationship-no rules or tying him down to committment. We just go wuth the flow.

  32. Ava says:

I doubt she is still in the picture.

  33. Me & Myself says:

“I suspect that he and Arthy have an understanding and an ongoing arrangement that they keep strictly under wraps.” (Miss Jupitero)

That’s what I believe too. I think Jane is perfectly happy to remain in the shadow. She deleted her Facebook account when the picture of Tom with her at Wimbledon was posted, then she deleted her Twitter account when the picture of them at Bora Bora was posted. I think she doesn’t want to deal with his obsessed fans and with the media, that’s why they’re keeping their relationship private.

    • siZe says:

Would someone really put up with that for 2+ years, though? Even if they didn’t like fan attention? He is never gonna put a ring on it, girl.

      • icerose says:

yes if you are happy with the arrangement. I know several people who have a FWB and have lived lived on her own for 10 years and would not have it another way,Not everyone wants a conventional together live in arrangement.
They have someone to holiday with, someone to baby sit dog if they decide on a solo holiday and other benefit as well.

      • NUTBALLS says:

icerose, I’ll admit I know of no woman who wants that kind of an arrangement but concede there may be those who do, especially if you say so. As we talk specifically about someone in Tom’s position however, a relationship’s even more unconventional since he’s away from home so much with filming and promoting. I suppose there could be a small number of independent women who might prefer that type of arrangement, but I can’t say I’ve ever met one.

All I know of the world of actors is what I read, which leaves the impression that sexual mores are pretty loose. If it feels good, do it. I presume that those who are not seeing someone exclusively are probably getting their rocks off with their trusted friends (or paying for it). They get sex without all the work of a relationship. Not my cup of tea, but I see why it would be a practical solution for those who travel a lot who have friends in the same situation.

      • icerose says:

        ‘@Nutballs
I tend to mix with women who live independently -and have done so most of their lives-partly comes from the generation/politics we were born into,I do think actors can choose to go down different types of relationships but I believe each to his own.
I know actors who are happily married as well.I do think people in the arts are open to exploring different types of relationship without censor and to me that is the way it should be

      • icerose says:

@Nutballs -i trained in drama back in the early seventies and still retain a lot of links with people in the arts.I have a relative who has a standard marriage but other actress friends who go down the open relationship route so nothing really shocks me and is probably why I do not get overly worked up re what his relationship is with Olsen or Arty.

I am also quite partial to puppy grinding if he you use the right tools and anaesthetic.Nothing wrong with a little humane puppy tickling now and again

    • NUTBALLS says:

I agree, siZe. I just can’t conceive of a woman being exclusive with him and being willing to keep everything undercover for years at a time. That’s not how good relationships work. Besides the near impossibility of maintaining emotional closeness when apart for weeks/months at a time, the fact that you’re not sharing the normal, everyday public experiences — eating out, going to events, shopping together — like most couples do makes it difficult to keep a connection strong. This is why I doubt JA is in the picture, unless she’s one of a harem of fwbs in his little black book that keep him from relying exclusively on his right hand. I would be delighted to see her make an appearance however, and hear y’all talk about the carnage on Tumblr. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

Nobody has any idea whether he does the normal, every day public experiences like eating out, shopping, attending family/friend events by himself or with anyone else. London is a very large city.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Of course, Lilac. But with the amount of stalking that seems to go on with him, it seems that if he was out and about, there would be more citizen paps documenting it. I don’t scour the internet for those things, but it seems that those sightings are rare and he’s pretty much always alone.

I’m mainly pointing out the challenges of dating under the radar when a public figure in your hometown. If I was the SO, I would want to act more like a normal couple, doing normal couple things, but to each his own.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Nutballs, but I suspect they (whoever, nobody in particular) can carry on like a normal couple. As I said, London is huge with thousands of restaurants and pubs. Famous person can leave the house, ditch stalkers and meet up somewhere. My city is nowhere near the size of London but famous people do live here and famous people do visit often for various reasons but they pretty much go unseen. They know who to trust and who is going to call the gossip columnist.

On a side note: Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello were sitting next to me in a restaurant yesterday. They were here because her son graduated from Emerson but they’re not all over the local papers.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I’m not sure I can buy into that theory, Lilac. He’s better known in his hometown than anywhere else and being spotted with a WOMAN would get fans chattering. I kinda hope that THE JARTHY is spotted with him at some point. What a coup d’é·tat that would be.

Then again, I’ll be delighted to see him step out with any woman, just for the entertainment value of watching the stans lose their collective sh*t.

      • Josa says:

“I’ll be delighted to see him step out with any woman, just for the entertainment value of watching the stans lose their collective sh*t.”
This part maybe fun, but I don’t look forward to those particularly crazy ones who will go on to create their own AntiSusie blogs which will no doubt populate Tumblr when they find out what name to be put in place of Susie.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Nutballs, and I suspect the good people of London take pride in not stalking the locals. Just as New Yorkers and Bostonians do. He can’t possibly spend all of his time barricaded in his house yet verifiable reported sightings of him, even by himself, are scarce.

@Josa, agreed. I found that a particular distasteful part of fandom. I don’t care who he’s with so long as she or he is an adult and given that his past lady friends have been close in age and even older, that’s likely to continue. I’ve never understood the vitriol hurled at the lady friends in the past.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Josa, it’s hard to conceive of how so-called fans can create something that would be so offensive to the very person they idolize. I doubt that any woman, no matter how beautiful, talented or accomplished would escape the contempt that will be present on Tumblr if she steps out with Tom. I’d hope for her sake she has a lot of confidence in herself and the wisdom to ignore the hate.

      • icerose says:

who is the arbitrator of a good relationship-they are about personal choice not another persons personnel preference

      • NUTBALLS says:

icerose, we do speak from our personal experience and through the filters that we view life. It’s difficult not to put myself in another woman’s shoes and think about how I might feel in the same situation. It’s an interesting discussion when others see a situation very differently and am glad we can share our various perspectives in a respectful manner here.

    • queen says:

Well, we haven’t seen him with anyone else in past year soo, i think she’s very much in the picture.

      • Catherine says:

If he’s not been seen with anyone that would suggest…he’s single. Arthy is most likely an fwb as Miss J has pointed out. As for her twitter, she baited fans on & off for a year before she deleted it, just after the holiday pic appeared (my theory is he asked her to) and she wasnt getting abuse on twitter, the opposite in fact. I agree with Sighs, it’s likely she going along with the arrangement; from sightings she appears to be someone who likes attention not avoid it.

      • Absolutely says:

Exactly. She doesn’t seem the shy and retiring type.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Based on what I’ve read in tumblr, he has a posse of crazed fans who watch his every move. They even stalk his PA and his bodyguard. They stalk each other! I think if he were keeping time with any lady it would be hard to keep under wraps.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Miss Jupitero, perhaps they should just focus on stalking one another? That way, they can have conspiracy theories and fantasies galore and constantly obsess over one another’s “follows” and “favorites” on Twitter without interfering in anyone else’s real world. Tumblr seems like a really strange place.

      • Josa says:

I think Jarthy is posting here just to bring up her name, to stir things up. She knows she is always the go-to rumor when things in Tommyland is quiet. She knows she has followers of her own who’s obsessed with her existence and her spirit. She knows until Tom gets marry one day with another woman, there will always be believers there thinking Jarthy is hiding at the background or in plain sight waiting for her moment in the sun. She knows Jarthy is not a name to be forgotten in this fandom, and her followers will make sure no one forgets her.

        There, my conspiracy theory. :p

      • NUTBALLS says:

        JARTHY is my spirit animal.

  34. Kate says:

Are we SERIOUSLY still considering Jane Arthy a THING? Come ON, people.

  35. koko says:

I’m gone for 48 hrs. and I’m back to your Tumblr peeps gone, EO rumors, JA back from the FWB grave and possible hidden engagements. That’s the last mini vacation free of internet I’m going to take again. 🙂

    • A.Key says:

hey, it’s been a slow weekend

    • NUTBALLS says:

I’m just waiting for the High Rise trailer. Why not pool our collective ignorance on other, debatable topics — Arthy or no Arthy, fwbs or dominate hand, etc…

    • Catherine says:

I’m sorry but I had to comment because of the IMO ridiculous secret engagement theory. JA is like a bad penny she’ll always turn up (& if that blogger was to be believed she’s an opportunist).

  36. Navel_Linty says:

Why do I get the feeling that Tom Hiddleston’s idea of kinky is putting 3 sugars in his tea?

    • Ava says:

@navel your comment and your screen name just made my day!

    • Dara says:

      @navel, I second Ava’s comment. Nice one!

    • Miss Jupitero says:

Hate to say this, but GDT’s idea of kinky is pretty much that. He has said in more than one interview that he doesn’t like sex to be overt in a film. I will take a bet that many people will be disappointed by how tame the “kink” actually is, aside from the plot line that exists between Lucille and Thomas of course.

      • Lilacflowers says:

That’s the impression I got from GDT’s comments as well. But if it simply consists of what we saw in the trailers, I’m fine with that.

I’m anticipating what we saw in the trailers, a flash of wittle dragonfly tush, and a truly sleezy plot line involving Lucille. Kinkiness suggested, but well off screen. Because that is GDT. I’m fine with that. This isn’t Game of Thrones.

      • NUTBALLS says:

Perhaps High Rise will offer a bit more of the risque?? I’m not familiar with Wheatley’s films, but there’s plenty of material to work with in the book, that’s for sure.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

Based on the book, Oh my, yes, this could be very… well, kind of rapey and incesty, make my skin crawl stuff, but surely there will be a naked Tom in there somewhere?

Any news about High Rise? I am so disappointed in Cannes. Does it have a US distributor yet?

      • NUTBALLS says:

Miss Jup, only what his agent tweeted that was posted upthread (#25). I presume he’s talking about the trailer, but he was vague.

After listening to the audiobook, I’m not sure I’m going to enjoy that movie. I like a bit of redemption and there is none in the story. I may wait to hear reviews from you ladies before I watch.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@MissJupitero, so far, there has been no announcement of a US distributor for High-Rise.

Do not know how reliable the source is but this sounds promising
” Saw The Light is directed by Marc Abraham, and word has it that it has attracted interest from the Telluride and Toronto film festivals, both of which are considered prime awards season events. ”

    • A.Key says:

o god no, please don’t do a cumberbatch

    • NUTBALLS says:

Gah! Telluride sits in my favorite mountains in the West. If I had a coupla thou’ burning a hole in my pocket, I’d be there watching ISTL in a heartbeat.

    • Allegra says:

      Maybe from this tweet:

“Thanks @TaniaPhillips16 and @BazBam on Daily Mail UK, possible release date on ISawtheLight. Stay tune.

    • Dara says:

I don’t think anyone on this project is going to go full Cumberbatch – Sony Pictures Classics seems too savvy for that. Look at what they did for Julianne Moore and JK Simmons this last year. But I wouldn’t rule out maybe just a smidgen of ‘Eddie Redcarpet’. Tom is not afraid of shilling when it’s called for (let’s just hope he keeps it classy) and has the intestinal fortitude to handle an event-heavy award season…and a convenient hole in his work schedule early next year. Since Cannes is a bust, I vote for TIFF over Telluride only because it seems slightly more formal and I need my fix of Tuxedo Tom.

      • icerose says:

Yes to Tuxedo Tom on the red carpet. It will be interesting to see if Tiff have come to some conclusion about whether films opening at Tellurude can still open in the first few days at Tiff because it does impact on the impact a film gets.

      • NUTBALLS says:

I don’t understand how those things work. Why not show a film at both?

I can see why few would attend Telluride, it’s a pain in the ass to get to unless you’re flying in on a puddle jumper.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I don’t know how it works either. Could someone brief me? Is it one or the other? I would imagine TIFF would be the bigger audience.

      • Dara says:

@mtn nutty, TIFF and Telluride almost overlap each other in September, to me it doesn’t make much sense to do both within a few days of each other, but I’m no expert. In Europe, the Venice FF and San Sebastián FF are also close together in September. I’m hoping High Rise is entered in either one.

      • Waitwhat says:

I can see all three of Tom’s movies as potentials for TIFF. They ‘prefer’ to have a North American premiere, but will consider a film if it’s already premiered in the States. There were a few that played both Telluride and TIFF last year – Imitation Game, Rosewater, Mr. Turner, Foxcatcher, Wild all played both.

Plus this year’s City to City focus is London, so that’s the perfect spot for High Rise.

      • Dara says:

@Wait, thanks for the list of films that played at both, I was wondering how often that happens. The BFI FF in London is in early October. It might be a possibility too.

      • icerose says:

@nutballs TIFF were trying to stop films opening at Telluride first because it was impacting on their having the best choice of films to open with. Not sure if their decision really helped in the end -will be interesting to see if it happens this year,

      • NUTBALLS says:

icerose, I saw a HR article on that where they suggested that that policy of not screening films that sneek-previewed in Telluride ended up backfiring as films either screened after the initial 4-day window or skipped TIFF altogether.

I love the low-key, artistry driven atmosphere of Telluride and think it would be a ideal place for ISTL to premier. I’m hoping it ends up at both festivals.

    • Mary-Alice says:

TIFF, of course. Not in the Gala panel, though. Therefore, less formal.

JARTHY, NW3, Torrilla — YOU KNOW NOTHING, JON SNOW!!
There–now we’ve melded the Celebitchy burn-up threads. Throw back a few Comet Sophies–or my personal fave, Fizzy Hiddles– and speculate away.
(Should I have gone with “JARTHY IS COMING!”, you know, being as how it’s that time of year again and all???) Heh.

  39. Naddie says:

Oh my, could this be my Hddles’s crush return? Oh my.

Disappointed about Torilla. Easiest way to get a fix…
