Kaiser pointed me to this laughable PR story in People Magazine reiterating the official line on the Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn split. We heard a report from The Daily Mail earlier this week claiming to have a source who said that Lindsey broke up with Tiger after he admitted to cheating. The Mail’s source was oddly specific and particularly defensive of Tiger, which lent the story an air of credibility. Plus we know that Tiger cheated on his wife Elin with literally dozens of women. It’s not a stretch to assume that he fell back on old habits, particularly after he was taking a beating on the links. People is careful to deny this story.
People’s source said “I know everyone is hoping for a cheating scandal, but it’s not. There was no real drama. This was just a relationship that didn’t last. It didn’t work out. They moved apart.”
That sounds just like the suspiciously similarly worded statements these two issued announcing their breakup. Translation: Tiger has his faltering career and waning sponsors to consider, and there’s no way he’ll acknowledge a relapse in his sex addiction.
The National Enquirer, which could have broken the Tiger cheating scandal back in 2007 but worked out a deal for an exclusive interview with a sister publication instead (remember that?), has a new story claiming that Tiger lavished attention on his ex wife, Elin, and that Lindsey found out and broke up with him. While some people may dismiss this out of hand because it’s the Enquirer, they get a lot of insider stories on Tiger. Here’s some of what they report:
Cheapskate Tiger Woods is begging his ex to take him back so he can save a whopping $54 million… when [Lindsey Vonn] found out, she dumped him, sources told The National Enquirer.
“Tiger has been sweet-talking Elin in texts, emails and calls in an attempt to wriggle out of a multi-million dollar payment he’s due to make to her in January 2016,” said the source.
Tiger, 39, still owes Elin $54 million as part of their 2010 divorce settlement.
If he doesn’t pay her off by January 15, 2015, he could reportedly lose his home in Jupiter Island, FL, since a holding company created by Elin holds the home’s mortgage.
[From The National Enquirer, print edition, May 25, 2105]
The Enquirer goes on to report that Lindsey found out that Tiger was trying to woo Elin and called it off, but that Tiger’s lame attempt won’t work anyway because Elin just wants her money. They also quote an expert who says that Tiger’s kids, daughter Sam, 7, and son Charlie, 6, could be “scarred for life” by their dad’s split with Lindsey, who became a caregiver to them over the past couple of years. I don’t care about any of these people (except Elin, she should get that money) but the stuff about his kids got to me.
I know it was a long term relationship, albeit doesn’t seem as long as Vonn was claiming, but you do NOT get involved with the kids until you are certain this is going somewhere very stable. As a woman who went into a relationship with a man who already had a child I was very cautious. I was introduced at group events and we worked our way from there. That seems irresponsible on both their parts.
+1 They’re so young too. How many of their dad’s girlfriends are they going to meet and potentially become attached to before they graduate high school?
I hear you. But somehow I don’t think “putting the kids first” is a strong suit of his and I’m guessing maybe Lindsey was eager to engage with the kids if she thought it would help her lock him down (ew).
I disagree. My parents split up when I was very young. They have both since remarried, but before they remarried I was introduced to several girlfriends/boyfriends. I enjoyed each and every one of them for different reasons. When they broke up, it was sad, but kids are resilient and life goes on.
let me be 100% superficial and catty for a moment…
gawd…how incredibly gorgeous is elin?
LV can’t compare in that department…
on another note, i feel for the children.
if this scandal wasn’t worldwide with so much attention and SO many hookers, one would have hoped he’d redeem himself and win elin back…putting the family back together…
but this wasn’t a minor transgression…
what he did was despicable.
he destroyed his legacy and probably messed up 2 beautiful children…
Tiger: You need more people.
Eh, I could see any of these scenarios being true, anything seems plausible. I think the bottom line is I don’t care about any of these people, lol.
The kids are extremely adorable, though, and they seem young enough to get over losing Lindsey in their lives. Who knows how much she was really with them anyway, I’m guessing they spend the majority of their time with Elin.
I do think Lindsay was a step-mother figure to the kids. I read before that her and Elin got along well and Elin supported her role in the kids lives. I do believe the kids have always had a stable figure in Elin and despite Tiger’s transgressions, I don’t think he’s an absent or bad father.
Damage control, yet again.
I do feel bad for the kids if they were close with Vonn, but I have to think everyone saw this coming.
There have been so many conflicting stories on this pairing, I don’t know what to believe. But if they had an ‘arrangement’, then I guess it can’t be considered cheating right?
Isn’t it pretty well known that People is a glorified mouthpiece for publicists?
Honestly, he had it all.
Having it all doesn’t play a part in addiction
I’m taking this article as verification Tiger did cheat again. And I believe his kids are going through a tough time. He had Vohn who was very often with his kids and very loving with them. And he is the only one to blame here.
Wait for it. GF #3 will come about and will be a blonde that gets cheated on. Ugh.
And to be snarky… He’s not even cute! And he’s cheap with the mistresses. So… why bother?
+1. Re: why bother – being rich or famous attracts a lot of (often questionable) people, and Tiger Woods is both (and also questionable).
I don’t see how this story is verification of anything other than their relationship didn’t work out.
I just want Elin get her money and Lindsay a new guy- a good one.
