Jaden Smith rocked a caped superhero outfit when he went to prom

what a night 🌟💫✨

Jaden Smith may be off the social media train (come back!), but that doesn’t mean he can’t continue to awe with his fashion sense. This past weekend, Jaden brought his swagger to prom. I don’t think this was his prom, right? Jaden hasn’t gone to school in years because Will and Jada are permissive to a fault. Jaden attended senior prom with singer Mecca Kalani, who is about to graduate from high school. She must have had the sharpest dressed date at the dance. Jaden threw on a superhero costume and wore it like a boss. More specifically, he wore a white-suited Batman costume that was custom tailored (but similar to the duds he sported at the Kimye wedding). Jaden rocked this outfit harder than his dad in Suicide Squad gear.

The Comeback…(Albino jacked the headgear)

Jaden doesn’t follow the style rules and wears whatever he pleases. He wears the clothes, the clothes don’t wear him. Few people can do the same. Jaden has own clothing line (as co-branding with his “his music collective) called MSFTSrep. He sells hoodies, t-shirts, and crew necks, but nothing as intricate as this Batman costume.

Side note: Proms must be a lot cooler than they were in the early 1990s. My daughter recently went to her first dance, and the teachers went all out to make sure the kids had a memorable time. Whereas I remember a cafeteria with tables pushed aside and a bad disco light flashing in the corner. Prom was a little bit better but not much. I want to go to a prom where the kids dress like Jaden. He always brings the fun.

At least he’s stopped doing the wrinkled-forehead-I’m-so-cool thing.

  2. CM says:

    He looks great!

    • Original T.C. says:

      +1
I love his fashion style. This suit is awesome. Bet it becomes popular.

  3. Delta Juliet says:

So, I’m the only one who thinks he’s a bit of a weirdo? His date is gorgeous though.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think it’s ridiculous, frankly. I don’t really care, but as usual, he has to be the center of attention.

      • Belle Epoch says:

He’s getting older, and it’s starting to not be cute. I think he’s trying to grow a moustache, which kinda changes the game for me. The batman suit created the sensation he wanted, but if you’re old enough to grow a moustache, it’s time to stop trick-or-treating. I think authentically unusual people are the BEST. A thirsty, aimless, aging child star… not so much.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Exactly. I don’t like to say mean things about a kid, but he just grates on me. Part of it is that going to a prom should be a rite of passage, where you’re getting dressed up like an adult for the first time, and he’s just so jaded that he wears a costume. I guess he can’t help it, but it’s like he’s trying to outshine everyone else. He will get tons of attention just for being who he is. Isn’t that enough for him?

      • Decorative Item says:

You hit the nail on the head! He’s a brat with too much time on his hands and an over-inflated sense of self.

      • Pandy says:

He looks like a fool. Grow up already. He’s totally trying to pull all focus onto himself. Entitled brat.

    • bella says:

this kid is gorgeous, too, don’t you think?
      but, yeah, def major problems.
to the point of being weird…
rumor has it that he and/or his sister are having major identity issues.
comes from the true weirdos…their parents.
      hope the kids do ok…

    • vauvert says:

She is in a bridal dress, and he is in a Halloween costume. If this is prom now, glad I went back when… all I see is weird whenever I see Will’s youngest kids. Confused, entitled, arrogant and full of themselves, with nary an original thought and coasting on the parents’ success.

      • snarky mcsnark says:

You don’t see it as an original thought to wear a cape to prom? Does every other guy wear a cape? This kid is just doing his own thing, why are we faulting him for that? I actually have some respect for someone who isn’t afraid to go against the norm of society and live how they want. Shouldn’t we applaud him for being creative and out in the world instead of sitting in front of a tv all day playing video games and eating junk food?

      • FingerBinger says:

@snarky He wants attention. I love kids and adults that do their own thing and march to a different beat but this screams Look at me! Kind of like Dennis Rodman.

      • Original T.C. says:

What is “weird” about Jaden? Is he going around shooting coke up his nose? Getting drunk and committing DUI’s? Hitting girls? Raping girls? Beating or bullying others?

He wears nontraditional clothes, hangs out with girls who seem to enjoy his company and together they all wear fun costumes. And seem to have a lot of fun. What’s so weird or bad about that. This girl obviously like Jaden a lot as a friend to invite him to her prom. The coordinated their costume colors to both stand out of the crowd. She seems to be having a ball. The other picture with Jaden and the other girl giving due to Prom girl make it obvious that the night is for her.

I couldn’t stand Jaden being pushed as the next movie star when he was such a bad actor but he is a teenager right now enjoying his age. I see this as the most normal he has ever been.

      • JenniferJustice says:

He ALWAYS goes against the norm just for the sake of going against the norm – not because he’s taking a stance on anything prolific – it’s simply a scream for attention – attention away from his date, attention away from the formality of the event and the maturity of the event. I don’t find that individualistic, nor do I find it cute. The night is not for the girl just because he stood to the side in one lousy picture. Outside of the moment, it’s all about him. He tries so hard to be cool, it’s obnoxious and not original at all. People telling him how awesome he is for constantly trying to stand out, is part of the problem. I would not allow my son to disrespect prom by wearing some glaring ridiculous outfit. I would expect him to show some maturity and respect the event as a formal event symbolizing the gateway to adulthood. I’d tell him to save the costume for Halloween.

      • snarky mcsnark says:

@JenniferJustice formality and maturity of the event?? That’s a hilarious statement! It’s a high school prom not the White House Correspondence dinner! Prom, a night where most teenagers do the exact opposite of acting mature. Most kids expect to have fun and party with their friends and I doubt Jaden’s suit took anything away from any of the other kids having a good time. Come on!

    • Samtha says:

Nothin’ wrong with being a bit of a weirdo. It’s better than being boring.

    • snowflake says:

yes, I think he’s a bit of a weirdo. If he didn’t have rich, famous parents, he would be being bullied left and right. But he’s rich so he can do/buy whatever he wants, including people to tell him how creative/original he is. His parents have done him a real disservice by not being involved in his life. If he ever loses his money, he will not be able to adapt into normal society/jobs.

      • Rocket says:

You make it sound as if its a shame that his mum and dads success has shielded him from being bullied by people who object to kids who are different (or to borrow your language, “weirdo”). I’m always pleased to see kids with few inhibitions, taking risks with their image and putting up a middle figure to everyone who thinks they should be able to prescribe how others dress or how they live.

      • snowflake says:

I would never want anyone to be bullied. but let’s be real, his family’s money and fame allows him to be the special snowflake. if he was poor and acted like this, he would be picked on so badly. which I’m glad he’s not. but by not helping him adapt to regular society, his parents are doing him a disservice. imagine him being an adult, wearing capes/dresses to work at his 9 to 5 job. you have to adapt to real life somewhat, but I don’t think he is going to be capable of doing that, because he has had no boundaries in his life, growing up. in other words, he’s not used to hearing the word no, or having to sacrifice for what he wants. in his world, it works out okay. but if he ever loses his money or has to become a normal working person, he’s screwed. i mean, that’s not likely to happen i know, but still. it’s ok to encourage personal expression but at least prepare your kid for real life and the fact that at some time he’s going to be told no. he’s never had that, imo.

      • Blabberwort says:

I am with you Rocket. My son is 2 months older than Jaden and rejects conformity. His girlfriend and best friend were nagging him to get a trendy hair cut, they nagged him so much he went to the hair dressers and came out with a number 1 all over. He doesn’t conform, he is nothing like the other kids but is outgoing and very outspoken. He reminds me of Jaden in so many ways and he is also the life of the party and has so many friends that whenever we go out in town he is stopped continuously. At times he can be confused, arrogant and full of himself, but he is also the most kindest, respectful and friendliest person you will ever meet.

Leave him alone, he is a still a kid.

      • JenniferJustice says:

It’s a formal event. Kids should respect it. If it’s being the center of attention they seek, they can skip prom and flail around on Main Street in a costume.

    • meme says:

I think he’s a complete weirdo. The Smith kids irk me.

  4. dr mantis toboggan says:

When I read prom I thought it was a homeschool prom and he took his sister as his date

  5. soxfan says:

Where (RI) and when (1970’s) I went to high school, we put “the” in front of the word prom. As in, “OMG, I just got asked to THE prom by Joey Germano!” (Fat chance-Joey Germano never asked me.*sob*)
Anyway, just a pet peeve of mine when peeps do not put the article in front of the word.
As for Jaden-meh. At least he got to go…

    • bella says:

i’m a new englander, too, and we always said The prom…
but i know that in different parts of the country folks simply call it prom…
similar to standing In line…how we phrase it in boston.
      in NYC…it’s standing On line…

    • mia girl says:

      Ha! Funny.
But if you are going to tell the story correctly, you need to say “Oh my God” because the acronym wasn’t really used in the 70s. Unless you girls in RI were ahead of the times. 😉

PS Joey Germano probably has a giant beer gut and sits at the bar regretting that he never asked you to prom.

    • Jackson says:

Yes! It’s THE prom, lol!!! It hurts my head, like when fellow Americans say ‘he went to hospital’ without the THE in there. Staaaaahhhp.

    • Kitten says:

Yup. Bostonian here. It’s THE Prom.

      • bla says:

Californian, and it was always “The Prom”… at least back in the 90’s! I think it might be a more modern trend rather than a regional thing?

  6. Tania says:

That batman costume is epic. He looks really good. And I am not a fan. Glad he stopped doing the constipated face.

  7. BendyWindy says:

    His date is really pretty.

I’m feeling it. Is it obnoxious? Sure. But what better time to be obnoxious than when you’re a teen? And it’s harmless. He seems pretentious and fun.

    • Kitten says:

Yeah I don’t get the hate. He looks like he’s having fun and he doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s not doing anything bad, so why get down on him?

I guess I’m sort of a Smith kids defender though..mainly because they’re just kids, and I don’t really feel comfortable mocking them. Also, they seem to have interests outside of seflies, belfies, and social media so that’s always a plus.

  8. bellenola says:

    He amuses me. 🙂

  9. Samtha says:

He had fun with it, which is what you’re supposed to do.

  10. Nutzoooo says:

Pretty cool he’s a teenager with a lot of creativity!!. He’s doing something out of the norm and he’s not hurting anyone so let him have funn!!

  11. Fran says:

Why, oh why, is Soooooooo much attention given to this kid? Just because his parents are famous? There are many true non-confirmists out there…….thank goodness.

  12. Robino! says:

It’s great to be original and think outside the box. Be unique and stand out. BUT…If back in the day when you were in school going to prom/The Prom if someone showed up wearing this outfit what would you think or have said IF he wasn’t the most popular kid in school, had extremely rich parents that everyone knew, was the quarterback of the football team, or some other bowdowntome status. Not that he should change who he wants to be, if this is truly authentic, but don’t pretend that he’s just being a teen when the majority of regular teens know they’d get beaten up, bullied, or made fun of if they showed up in something like this when they aren’t the above…or the class clown.

    • Nutzoooo says:

Tru tru ..it’s more about a teens status or popularity in school I think . If a nerdy quiet kid did this kids would mock and bully him but if it’s a popular kid then it’s cool and hip so having the addition of having famous parents gives him the added confidence to do this.

    • Snowflake says:

That’s what I was trying to say on my post

  13. Madpoe says:

That “Something wrong with that boy” comment never popped up at the Smith’s house? Not even for a second? I’m all for creativity and expressing your individuality just as long as we certain that’s what it is. Cos watchin’ Amanda Byrnes go through s**t startled my a**.

  14. Iheartgossip says:

Well I’m confused cause this toddler doesn’t go to school. Must have went to a friends prom. Another stunt queen in the making.

  15. G says:

Who doesn’t wish they were that bold and unafraid to be themselves in high school? Good for him. Sorry but he looks like a fun young man that doesn’t take himself too seriously. It’s sort of refreshing really.

  16. Jana says:

This kid seems like an over-indulged, egotistical, overbearing brat who is in constant need of attention…I guess he must feel right at home in Hollywood.
