Dolly Parton is a goddess. The 63 years old music legend and goddess on earth tells AARP Magazine about rumors of her impending retirement, “After you reach a certain age, they think you’re over. Well, I will never be over… I’ll be making records if I have to sell them out of the trunk of my car. I’ve done that in my past, and I’d do it again.” Show them how it’s done, Dolly!
People Magazine has some quotes from Dolly’s AARP cover interview, and she’s just as sassy and lovely as ever. People calls her a “country legend” but she’s a lot more than that. She’s a legend for all musicians, a legend for female businesswomen, a legend for the South, a feminist legend.
God, I could talk about how much I love Dolly Parton all day. She’s just that amazing. Did you know that she’s written more than 3,000 songs? And that she owns all of her songs – her whole catalog, which is why she’s so rich. Everyone covers her songs, and everyone pays her royalties.
At 63, country legend Dolly Parton has 80 albums, 25 No. 1 singles, 3,000 songs and even a theme park to her name. But the woman behind the quarter-billion-dollar empire says she’s still just a little ol’ country gal.
“Daddy would get up in the morning and work till he had to go to his job doing construction,” Parton says in the May/June issue of AARP. “Then he’d come home and still be workin’ on the farm till way after dark. We used to soak Daddy’s old feet. Mama had some kind of salve she’d made up for Daddy’s hands because they’d crack and bleed, and I remember rubbing Daddy’s hands with it.”
And those closest to her remember her at that same simple girl, she says, including husband Carl Dean and best friend Judy Ogle.
“They knew me before I became a star. They still see me as me,” Parton says.
She dismisses longstanding rumors of her and Ogle being lesbian lovers.
“We’re absolutely, totally honest, open, and comfortable with each other,” Parton says. “We’ve been accused of being lovers. We do love each other, but we’ve never been like that.”
But one thing is true, Parton adds. She’ll never quit music. “After you reach a certain age, they think you’re over. Well, I will never be over,” she insists. “I’ll be making records if I have to sell them out of the trunk of my car. I’ve done that in my past, and I’d do it again.”

It would make my life if Dolly Parton were a lesbian. I don’t know why, I would just love it. But she’s been married to Carl for something like 45 years, and she takes a very open-minded, realistic view of marriage. I’ve heard her say in the past that sometimes she and Carl need to be apart from each other for months at a time, but that it’s all good.
Here’s Dolly arriving at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party. Images thanks to Fame Pictures .
As far as I know, no one has ever seen ol’ Carl Dean. I, personally, have wondered about Dolly and her lifestyle for years. I know there was talk some years ago that Carl never even existed and that Dolly’s supposed long term marriage was a sham – and this was the 70’s or 80’s… I want to see proof of Carl’s existence, darn it!
doubt that’s true but the duet she did w/j sim was kinda like that.
Dolly’s honest to the core, I’m sure if she were a lesbian, she’s sing it loud and proud. Actually think it’s kind of rude, people questioning her about it, just because she doesn’t have what people perceive as a ‘traditional’ marriage. She looks amazing, as usual!
This is new news? She’s been denying she is a lesbian for decades!!
i’ve seen pictures of Carl. It was a shot of him in a truck. He’s handsome.
i’m a big fan of Dolly. She’s terrific.
Gorgeous legs 🙂
I’ve seen pics of Carl Dean. He just doesn’t want the whole Hollywood, spotlight lifestyle. If they make it work…good for them!
wow! what a scary old woman :/
Dolly has been one of my idols for the last 25+ years. She’s so down to earth and honest to a fault. I think she’d come right out with it if she were really a lesbian. And I agree with you Kaiser, she’s always had a great outlook on marriage. She once said “Marriage isn’t always smooth sailing, but you just can’t let it blow you off course. Carl and I’ll take a little vacation away from eachother and soon enough we can’t wait to see one another again!”

Ask and ye shall receive.
I know Carl Dean exists. I have seen pictures and many members of my family have met and had many dinners with him. My Great Granny was like Dolly’s Granny too. She named a restaurant after her in Dollywood…It is called Granny’s Ham and Beans. There is a huge copper embossed photo of my Granny in a beautiful old school dress. My Granny also happens to be Judy’s mother. I can attest to the fact that Judy and Dolly are the absolute best of friends. I believe that is all. Even it were the contrary, I would happy with them. When you know each of those people, and you know how great they each are, something such as wondering if they are lesbian lovers is such a waste of enjoyable time.
I agree that if she were lesbian, I don’t see why she’d deny it. I used to live in Nashville and my one regret was not meeting her. She’s one of a kind: hard not to love her.
Dolly Parton is one of my idols. She’s a great role model for those of us who are “lavishly endowed” and get teased for it–just tell the jokes about yourself, beat ’em to the punchline!
So true Mandy!! I’m quite top heavy and have always followed Dolly’s motto that “My feet are so small because nothing can grow in the shade!”
“lavishly endowed” is another term for “tig ol’ bitties” isn’t it?
“lavishly endowed”.. LOL.. how lame.
Dolly’s ok, nothing special.
Backwoods girls kissing girls?
What ever happened to Daddy?
I wish I were “lavishly endowed” like Dolly!
