Giuliana Rancic challenges her skinny shamers with a bikini shot

Giuliana Rancic

Giuliana Rancic has kept a low profile after the end of awards season and her promotional memoir tour. Much of that tour revolved around Giuliana discussing her weight. She initially wanted to focus on the book and didn’t want to talk about her body. Giuliana framed the issue as knowing her own “truth, that’s all that matters.” As the press appearances continued, so did public concern over her fragile appearance. Journos asked about her weight, so Giuliana gave in and started talking. A lot.

Giuliana denied having an eating disorder. Her anti-cancer meds make it hard to gain weight, which is true for many people. Guiliana doesn’t find herself attractive at a lower weight, and she knows people find her “disgustingly skinny.” After some time off, Giuliana is ready to confront the issue again. She posted this bikini shot on Instagram.

On top of the world ✌️☀️🌍

This photo is a direct challenge. Maybe Giuliana was able to re-up with some time off after defending her body for weeks on end. It must have been exhausting to keep getting picked apart. Giuliana has always been very thin, and she lost even more weight after her cancer diagnosis. I understand the desire to side-eye a woman who didn’t want to gain 10 pounds to boost her fertility potential. She also once tried her hand at a diet and fitness newsletter, which didn’t go over well. I remember reading her instructions for restaurant eating. She always wanted her veggies roasted with no-calorie Pam spray.

All the same, I’m cutting Giuliana some slack because body criticism is rough to deal with. She has a legitimate health issue that makes it hard to gain weight (even if she wanted to, which she may not). Giuliana felt good enough about her body to post this bikini shot, which is good news. It still feels like she’s trying to restart the conversation again.

Show us the front, honey! My Spanish grandma has a saying…”de atrás liceo, de adelante museo” something like people tend to look great from behind.

  2. maria1981 says:

not shamming, but this woman is sick. please seek help.

  3. Hautie says:

Geez, she had to wait all week for a gossip blog to pick up this picture.

I was hoping we were going to skip having to feed her ego this week.

Yes, Giulianna… you are thin. You are the thinnest of them all. No one is thinner.

Can you go have a seat now?

    • Vava says:

      +1. LOL.

Her adoring fans were praising her on Instagram, so that had to boost her ego.

When she takes a seat, I hope she covers up because those are her best looks.

      • Kashmirilady says:

She has fans? I don’t understand why… I mean, what does she actually do?

    • minx says:

      LOL. So true.

    • marie says:

Thinsperation at it worst. She is obviously I’ll and struggling. I feel for her.

  4. Vava says:

Of course she wants to start the discussion again! That is the motivation behind posting the photo.

    • zinjojo says:

And that’s the thing — why does she need to start this conversation again? Insatiable ego? Has nothing else of relevance or importance to say? I certainly didn’t miss her.

  5. Green Is Good says:

She looks unhealthy in all these photos. She should focus on getting well physically instead of posting selfies. No shade here.

  6. Madpoe says:

I swear to the lawd if she comes out years later with a tell all book about her eating disorder Imma lose it! Denying it now to sell books later?!

  7. Toot says:

Her lower half looks fine to me, she just has bony arms.

    • TW says:

Might be built that way. No amount of food will put weight on my arms either. I can go up in weight and still have bony arms and lower legs. Been like that since childhood.

      • KellyBee says:

So true my grandma has been thin all her life but when she had a triple heart bypass surgery. The medication she takes for that along with after medicine she gained a ton of weight every were accepting in her arms and legs which are still very thin.

  8. lola says:

God in that first picture I just want to hold up her head with my hands cause it looks like it’s too much work for her.

  9. Lilacflowers says:

My post treatment anti-cancer medications caused weight gain. As been the experience of every other woman I’ve met who took tamoxifen or Femara, so I’m curious what she is taking. She needs help and I hope she gets it

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

That’s what I was wondering. My mom has to take a ton of pills right now. She hasn’t lost any weight, and she had a hard time getting herself to eat during the chemo and a little bit after because she lost her taste buds.

      • LadyAlbert says:

It seems to be different for everyone. Some lose weight drastically, others gain weight. I’m not sure if it’s the different drug combinations or just individual differences in metabolism. My mother actually gained some weight after chemo and other cancer treatments.

    • Jag says:

My mother lost a ton of weight on tamoxifen; she was in the clinical trials for it way back when. I don’t know what else she was on when the cancer returned and she had such problems eating.

Chemo-induced anorexia is real. But I do believe that Rancic had an issue with food prior to that, since she didn’t want to gain wait in order to conceive.

For those who have chemo-induced anorexia, my mother took Megestrol (we always called it “mee- gace” but the oncologist called it “meg- us.” It was used to increase appetite in AIDS patients and worked well for her. When she’d take it at night, she could eat the next day, but when she didn’t, she couldn’t. So we always knew when she had taken it.

      • FLORC says:

Now marijuana has replaced many of those drugs with some of the best results. Not the synthetic versions. The grown organically.

IMO if Giuliana wanted to eat and put on weight she could. While the conditions you and others have stated are real they are extremely easy to manage now. It’s my opinion some people enjoy the side effects of reduced appetite.

  10. Babalon says:

I’m calling BS on the cancer med excuses.

That’s true for everything BUT breast cancer. The treatment(s) we receive for that actually cause weight gain…and I really resent her lying about that to hide an eating disorder.

    • Lilacflowers says:

I lost a few pounds during chemo, probably due to stress more than anything else, but that stabilized quickly. That first month on Tamoxifen, I gained 20 pounds. I felt like a balloon. It has been a struggle ever since. If there was a safe drug with the opposite effect, my oncologist would have given it to me

      • FLORC says:

Tamoxifen is not and has not been found to be the cause of more than a few pounds. If you’re drifing into double digits by 10’s there are other factors at play. Yes, you gain about 10 or 15 at most pounds on average from Tam, but after that you can’t blame only the drug.

Your body is going through a laundry list of stressors and some can cause a slowing of metabolism with accelerated aging. As a result you notice you’ve suddenly gained weight that is tough to lose and the only change you’re aware of is Tam. and you zone in on it because a side effect is weight gain.

And some have lost weight on it. I’d say i’ve seen more patients have a slight gain of 5 or so pounds than anything more or anything less when starting it.

  11. Fat Monica says:

mmm are we sure this is definitely her?? her hair is much longer here. plus shes skinnier..

    • MrsBPitt says:

I was thinking the same thing! I’m not even sure that is her from behind!

    • anne_000 says:

Yes, it’s not certain that’s her and it’s not certain when that photo was taken. If it is her, then was that photo taken when she was heavier? Who knows.

    • Dr.Funkenstein says:

Me too, not sure that’s her.

  12. Megan says:

Most women, myself included, GAIN weight on anti cancer meds. They suppress your hormones. She’s thin because she doesn’t eat.

  13. Alexis says:

I must admit she looks healthier here (especially on the bottom), but she may well be cherry-picking a photo that would make her look as normal healthy-thin as possible.

The reason why people are worried she’s sick isn’t even her actual weight. Some people are that weight and they aren’t sick. Most of us out here aren’t “skinny shaming,” we’re concerned. It’s not about her weight. What concerns people is how her weight has changed over time, her sickly pallor, and how she talks about food and her body. This makes many people think she has an eating disorder. Someone running around in the public eye with all the signs of an eating disorder shouldn’t be normalized.

  14. samipup says:

That’s not her. Body shape and hair is different. Her hair is malnutrition thin.

    • curiouser1 says:

I agree. It’s sad she feels like she has to do this.

    • mayamae says:

I’ve never seen her when her hair wasn’t flat ironed. It’s possible that this is her natural hair. Frizz and wave always makes hair look thicker.

  15. Cinderella says:

I can see the ocean through her thighs.

  16. RobN says:

I wonder if she posted the bikini shot because it looks “normal” thin instead of the kind of thin that makes people worry about a disorder.

  17. Vampi says:

Nice back shot. Uh huh. IF that is her let’s remember…photoshop works both ways. She could have tried to make herself LOOK like she’s put on weight. Not buying it.

  18. Carole says:

She is going to be a very frail, very old woman way too soon. Not having good fats?..her skin will wrinkle earlier than it should….her poor bones are probably fragile already as well from most likely a lifelong erratic menstrual cycle even pre cancer due to not getting her period from body fat being too low which would make it unsafe to carry a baby.
It is sad, regardless if it is a psychological sickness or something out of her control..somehow, I think this is mostly self induced.
Granted, women all suffer self esteem issues from time to time in regards to our looks…but when it is taken to the extreme, the aging body can only limp along malnourished for so long..then something has got to give.
The body is INCREDIBLE in all of its wisdomand it sends us warning messages, which we sometimes push aside, prior to something much more serious…we could all learn from this poor woman.

  19. Note to Giulana: Kit Harington is wearing your daughters clothes.

  20. Annie says:

I have zero opinion on her body but this woman’s face has always looked odd to me, as if she were an alien. She doesn’t look human to me.

  21. Annie says:

I think it’s her. Perhaps she just has the sort of body type that looks thinner in clothes? I know that’s true for me – when I look normal slim in clothes I look quite voluptuous in a bikini, when I look slim in a bikini I can look bony in clothes. I just never gain on my extremities.

It’s possible she just was never as thin as people thought. I’ve had two doctors tell me I weigh around 15lb more than I look.

    • Bridget says:

Have you actually looked at photos of her? The ones posted above are actually the most flattering ones that make her look heavier. Think about that. Those are the photos where she doesn’t look at malnourished. This is a woman that has to wear a wig because her hair is falling out because it’s not getting enough nutrients.

      • Annie says:

Obese women can have thinning hair too – a nutrient deficiency has to do with quality more than quantity. In the 3 photos above (the one’s you say are cherry picked to make her look fuller) she doesn’t particularly strike me as scary skinny, I’d say she has a long distance runner looking body (idk perhaps she’s been emaciated in the past as I don’t pay much attention to her). I don’t think she’s in Rachel Zoe territory. Rachel really does look skeletal to me.

All I know is that in the past some people have skinny shamed me, and for those people seeing me in a bikini shut them up. They never mentioned me being “so skinny” again!

  22. bree says:

Her daily diet used to be online..and was scarce!

    • Bobbiesue says:

Endless yerba mate tea and barely any food. If I had followed her suggested regime I would be stick skinny as well. If she really eats that way she is hungry all the time and has issues.

  23. Ana says:

Ahhh! I can’t believe I missed this yesterday, because now I won’t know if there’s someone who agrees with me…

I don’t know if I am imagining it, but it seems there’s photoshop done between her thighs?

  24. Cowgirl27 says:

I just do not think it is her. Why not show her face. If it is her she used photoshop to plump up the lower half only – those arms are still skinny!!

    • Annie says:

It’s probably just how her weight distributes naturally. Some peeps just never gain much in their arms.

      • Pace U. says:

It is Giulianna she is very thin , but works her but muscles out like crazy, it’s the only place where she still has a small roundness. She cherry picked the photo.
She is a very very thin woman. I worked with her a few years. She was obsessed with being thin..

  25. Harrison says:

Looks like the body of a ten year old girl, not a grown woman.

  26. Iheartgossip says:

Hmmm fused beyond a normal photo. Hands on her hips to make her appear ‘wider’. Legs look like twigs. Lets see a real photo, taken by an everyday person – then I’ll decide. Until then, get some help Jules. It’s very sad.
