This story belongs to the “so strange it’s probably true” variety of arrest tales. Of course, all defendants are innocent until proven guility, so we don’t know for sure what happened. P. Diddy now sits in the LA county jail after allegedly attacking his son’s coach with a kettlebell weight. Those pieces of fitness equipment can be extremely heavy and are often made of concrete. They can easily function as deadly weapons.
TMZ is on the case of P. Diddy’s altercation with his son’s football coach. Diddy is reportedly “a helicopter dad,” which wouldn’t surprise me so much if his son was in elementary school. Nope. Justin Combs is a college-aged guy, and he must be so embarrassed by his dad’s behavior. I guess Justin missed too many workouts, and the coach said he couldn’t play until next season. Justin should have handled his own standing on the team, but Diddy took matters into his own hands. Things reportedly got rough. Here’s the initial story from TMZ with a number of ongoing followups.
P. Diddy has been arrested for allegedly getting into a fight with a football coach at UCLA … where his son is on the team, TMZ Sports has learned.
We’re told Campus Police took the music mogul into custody early Monday afternoon. Diddy’s son, Justin Combs, is a defensive back on the team. We’re told the fight went down at the UCLA athletic facility.
One source says a strength and conditioning coach was screaming at Justin on the field during a strength and conditioning session. We’re told the coach “was riding Justin, screaming intensely at him.” Diddy watched the whole thing from the sideline.
At some point later, we’re told Diddy confronted the coach in his office and grabbed him. Diddy was arrested for assault.
A source connected with Diddy tells TMZ Diddy himself initially wanted to call police, but the phone was taken out of his hands.
Diddy is still in custody at campus jail.
[From TMZ]
After TMZ’s first story, they updated with info from law enforcement, who said Diddy allegedly attacked his son’s coach with a freaking kettlebell. So police arrested Diddy on felony charges of assault with a deadly weapon. There’s supposedly video of the incident, and sources say Diddy swung the kettlebell and barely missed the coach. Diddy’s team says he only held up the kettlebell in a threatening manner and never took a swing. Diddy also told sources he acted in self-defense, which makes no sense. He’s been moved from the UCLA campus jail to the LA county jail. The UCLA paper followed up and said Diddy has been charged with “three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats and one count of battery.”
Now here’s a related (and much less sobering) tweet. The 1990s are back.
Diddy arrested. Suge Knight in jail. Jurassic Park movie. Terminator movie in July. Clinton & Bush running for president. Hannibal. #90s

the 90s are back!
As if! but to add to the story, local news outlets are reporting that charges will be dropped in exchange for Diddy being banned from practice.
Next up, Diddy’s donation to UCLA, and this story disappearing.
The California justice system is definitely going to give him the Lohan treatment!
Right. It was just a mi$under$tanding. (Also, I’m sure there’s a “More Kettlebell!” joke in here somewhere, but I’ve got to get to work and don’t have time to find it.)
Yikes. I can’t begin to sort out what’s fact here although my first thought is I wonder if the kid is held to a different standard just because of his father’s name? In any case, my son would be mortified if I ever second guessed one of his coach’s decisions. He doesn’t even like for me to watch him compete because he says my presence make him nervous. What a fiasco.
And that tweet, priceless.
That maybe true but this is how P.diddy acts. I read that he did something similar with the Empire TV show team. Fox was willing to put one of his sons on the show but wanted to own all rights to the music.
I think he is a bully and people usually give him his way. When they don’t this is how he acts.
It is probably more likely that Diddy wants his kid held to a different standard; if the rule is that if you miss too many practices you ride the pine, then it likely applies to all players on the team.
Diddy feels his son should be entitled to lenience just because he is Diddy’s kid.
My takeaway from all this is that he sat in a campus holding cell.. I’m not sure why I find it so funny..
I need to see the video before I can make an informed decision.
I can see Kanye West doing the same in ten years.
North won’t be in school as they will be home schooling her.
Homeschool is school just a different kind of school.
I don’t get why people are negative about celebs homeschooling. I know many people that homeschool.
Sadly, North will be on the Kardashian media stroll by then.
People have a bad impression of homeschooling because of the Jenner girls. They were “homeschooled” and in interviews they look less than bright. Perhaps Kimaye will hire a tutor for North, but I doubt it. I’m sure Grandma will be pimping that little girl out in a few years like she did with her own children. Poor kid.
@ lisa, my comment was not to put down home schooling but to say that Kanye won’t have the opportunity to rip into some, teacher, coach, principal, etc. Home schooling is fine if done seriously and correctly.
Lol…you think North West will attend ANY school?
You’re so optimistic.
@ The Eternal Side-Eye, yeah, the Kardashian style of home schooling is none but one can always hope.
But Kanye actually comes from a well educated background and fancies himself a great thinker. I think he will want his daughter, or more cynically, at least his son, to be educated. Besides, I feel like Kanye likes to dig his talons into dramatic situations, and sending his kid to a ritzy school will give him some opportunities and increase his image of his own personal greatness.
I love the idea of her busting out, a la Frances Bean Cobain, but sadly she doesn’t have any “normal” grandparents around to rescue her. She’s pretty much guaranteed to be a Paris Hilton, or worse
as much as p.diddy is a douche, kanye west will do even worst .i bet on this.Famous”rapper” these days live in a world with no connection with reality, much worse than the ’90
Didn’t Kanye’s mom worked as an educator? I seem to recall she worked in schools either as a teacher or part of the administration. That lady isn’t dumb despite how her son turned out. He better give his kids a better education than what the Kartrashian girls got.
From what I have read about her in the past, Donda West would be spinning in her grave with all this Kartrashian mess.
Whats a helicopter dad,is it one of those over eager, over zealous parents on the sidelines?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helicopter_parent
Parent who hovers constantly and tries to control/manage/direct/fix everything in child’s life.
Beware helicopter dad with kettlebell.
Beware helicopter dad with kettlebell
haha.
All I can picture is one of those movie scenes where everyone is running in a million different directions screaming, “Look out below! It’s helicopter Dad and he’s got a kettle ball!”
I have a friend who is a Dean at a large university and her husband is an assistant football coach, they say there are a lot of helicopter parents. Diddy should let his son grow up and let him deal with the coaches himself.
The jokes on Black Twitter about this have given me life!!
I wouldn’t be surprised if Diddy’s son is now considering changing schools.
Wouldn’t surprise me if UCLA released him from his scholarship- too bad for him, but who wants to put up with this level of “interference”, to be polite about it.
Yeah…he’s ‘considering’ it after this incident.
Read: already had a contract to terminate slid across the desk to him as the school agrees not to press charges if he gets the f away from them.
Sounds about right
Rich parents spoiling their offspring and preventing them from failing/learning! Can absolutely see Kanye doing something like this.
That little Hilton brat just got arrested again….and Daddy will bail him out, someone needs a kettleball upside the head lol
What bothers me about the Hilton child (and he behaves like one so is one) is that he just was let off the hook over the airplane incident. Learnt his lesson well didn’t he?
Yup definitely has those rage issues under control 😒
Oh, yes, he learned his lesson well: being rich lets you buy your way out of the”justice” system.
It was obvious the Hilton heir would break his probation. Jail or pysch ward would be best for him.
They never discipline their little darlings till they kill someone so agrieviously that the law hits them hard with criminal charges.
Otherwise: rape, assault, resisting arrest, threats – all get slaps on the wrist.
He always gets out of trouble.
On a related note though — helicoptering is hella common for college-aged kids. My friend runs the internship program at a major company and she gets parents calling to say their kids are sick and can’t come in. The kids won’t even email themselves! Or they complain about tasks. It’s crazy.
I’ve been retired 10 years from teaching and even when I was teaching that was happening – parents making excuses for their children instead of the children coming to me and discussing it. It’s start early in life. I would make my children, in elementary school, call when they got a party invitation as to whether they could come or not. I would never think of calling in for them for work – unless they were incapacitated in some manner and couldn’t do it for themselves.
I would have had to be physically incapacitated for my mother to call my place of employment to explain my absence. The internship program doesn’t have to accept the parents interference. It is the interns responsibility.
I would explained that if that intern needed their parents to call that person is not ready for the internship.
Wouldn’t shock me. I still believe p diddy was at fault for the shooting back in the day that he pinned on his driver. Still believe J Lo lied for him.
Diddy still thinks we are in the 90sand he has any type of sway with people, LOL
I think the kettlebell was ‘sway’. How embarrassing for his kid??
*eye roll*
Well now they’ll DEFINITELY let his son play for the team.
Good job Diddy, you exercised your kid right out of a college education over him not doing the work he was supposed to. But it’s cool, because you’ll just buy him a new education so that he can screw up all over again.
Can I just say I’m almost kind of dreading the media stories in 10 years? Rich people who work hard to get where they are, are obnoxious but their kids?! OMG…their kids are gonna be a whole new world of ignorant conspiracy theorist psychos hurting people and clinging to their parents fame.
I believe this more a case of living through his son.A week or so ago Diddy apologized for going skinny dipping with Justin’s friends.Could you imagine your father jumping in the pool naked when you are hanging with your college friends?
No, I can’t imagine that.
Once a thug, always a thug, regardless of $$$.
“Diddy’s team says he only held up the kettlebell in a threatening manner . . .”
Ha! Whoever is speaking for Diddys team has obviously never handled a kettle bell. You really can’t do anything with it EXCEPT swing it around. It’s very difficult to just hold it up.
His stupidity has no limits. He stays stuck on stupid.
How embarrassing for his son. I would ban him from all practices from this point on. I am sure he must come with his posse and makes a spectacle out of his presences. Time to let the kid grow up and handle his own issues.
As the wife of an assistant college coach (albeit on a much smaller scale, smaller college, smaller revenue sport – cross country), this literally almost never happens. Normal parents know that when your child goes to college to play a sport that the player then no longer has a say on what goes on in practices and games. If the coach is “riding” the player (they are no longer children people, they are over 18!) as was reported then the player needs to meet with the coaches and make some mature decisions about what to do…report it to a higher authority if it’s illegal behavior (i.e. the Penn State situation!) or leave the team if it’s too much for the player to handle. Most parents “get” this…unless you are an idiot who never had to follow any rules.
Actual soccer dad Sean Combs
Who goes to their adult child’s place of employment and tells the boss what the child’s job role should be? Or how to mark them for their yearly employment review and the amount of their raise? cuz that’s exactly analogous to what is happening here.
My husband played college football and was horrified at this story. In the first place he says that a good a$$ chewing from a coach is very common. In fact, he says that if a player is goofing off, not attending practices, etc. and a coach doesn’t chew him out, that means that the staff has already written the player off. He says it Bad enough at the high school level there were always interested Dads who loved to watch practices, but that they never interfered with the coaches. But in college, it’s just about unknown. Most college level teams close their practices, but I guess Diddy used his position to be there. And in doing so has gotten himself in jail, embarrassed his son, and probably jeopardized his son’s position on the team.
OMG, What an idiot. Pig with lipstick is still a pig.
Kettle bells are scary! I am always paranoid about dropping one on my head during workouts. Coach is lucky to be alive…
Coaches can be total d*cks. Part of it is motivational, but usually it’s someone who’s a dick outside of work too. My son had a coach from hell! He emasculated the kids every chance he got. If they were a winning team the parents might have kept silent, but they weren’t. He held his job for three years but his ego and bad temper were eventually his demise. Regardless, P. Diddly has now created a problem of mammoth proportions for his kid. Too bad his son has a narcissistic, ego maniac for a father. It’s horrible that P. Diddy put this stain on his son’s reputation.
Heard the coach has had several assult charges and was a dick in the NFL. So as much as P.shitty is a jerk, there may be more to the story..
Sounds like Daddy Diddy is teaching his son he gets want he wants or Daddy will handle it (with a Kettleball, of course). Diddy never finished college at Howard. I hope his son finishes college.
