Kim Kardashian covers the new issue of Rolling Stone. The cover is… ample. If you couldn’t figure out, the photoshoot was done by Terry Richardson. Gross. The Kardashians have a difficult relationship with Rolling Stone – RS once published a massive slam-piece and everyone laughed, but as with so many Kardashian-related things, the Kardashians always get the last laugh. This RS cover profile of Kim is actually… nice. She talks about a lot of different stuff. Some highlights:
Whether she’s a role model: “In a certain way, I would never say I think I’m a role model or anything like that, but you know I live my life the way that I live it and I just try to be a good person. And I don’t try to look to be a role model for people. I think it’s a lot of pressure. If they think of me that way I’m so honored and so appreciative and I do what I can to be one, I guess.”
She once dated Michael Jackson’s nephew, TJ. At the time, her dad, Robert Kardashian, “explained to me that he’s had a lot of interracial friends, and it might not be the easiest relationship. He said I should prepare myself for people to say things to me. . . . When I was in high school, I’d get magazines and see interracial couples and think, ‘They are so cute.’ I’ve always been attracted to a certain kind of look.”
Her secret marriage to Damon Thomas at age 20. “I was very happy at home learning how to cook and clean and keep a house. I knew that was where I wanted to end up.”
Finding Bruce Jenner cross-dressing when she was in her 20s: “I was shaking. I didn’t know if I’d just found out his deepest, darkest secret, and he was going to come after me.”
Before she married Kanye, they talked about Bruce: “I wasn’t sure if Bruce was going to be comfortable walking me down the aisle. He had just had his trachea shaved, so I knew something was going on.” She was afraid of what West might think, but West calmed her concerns. “[Kanye] obviously moves to his own drum. He lives his life the way he wants, a really authentic life, and he was like, ‘If you can’t be authentic and you can’t live your life, what do you have?’ ”
Living with her dad during the OJ Simpson trial: “It was surreal, with Johnnie Cochran and Robert Shapiro and all these guys having meetings at my dad’s house… I definitely took my dad’s side. We just always thought my dad was the smartest person in the world, and he really believed in his friend… It’s weird. I just try not to think about it.”
She self-identifies as a feminist: “I’ve never really been one on labels, and I don’t like to push my view. If I feel something, it’s how I feel. I never say, ‘I feel this way, so you should feel that way.’ Not that there’s anything wrong with it, but I just am who I am. But, yeah. I think you would call me a feminist.”
She’s never flashed her biscuit for the paparazzi: “I rarely wear underwear, but that never happened to me. I was never drinking. . . . I think that saved me a lot.”
What she thinks about her sex tape now: “I don’t really think about it. I thought about it for a long time. But when I get over something, I get over it.”
On The Sock One: “It’s not that mysterious, what’s happening with Rob. He has gained weight. He feels uncomfortable being on the show, and that’s OK. Do I think he smokes weed, drinks beer, hangs out and plays video games with his friends all day long? Yes.”
I kind of enjoy how Kim is the tough-love sister about Rob. Khloe is the one who will smother Rob with love and Kourtney is too self-absorbed to care. But Kim is the only one saying to Rob, “Tough sh-t, get over it.” I also didn’t know that Kim was living with her dad during the OJ Simpson trial – she also says that OJ moved in with her dad briefly and he stayed in Khloe’s bedroom (when Khloe wasn’t living there, obviously). Isn’t that… weird to think about?
Her feminism answer bugs me because she’s trying so hard to not alienate the people who “hate” feminism. She could have just owned it and said, yeah, I’m a feminist. Big deal.

Her face. It’s like she’s a whole different person.
i was excited because i thought it was a story about stacey london
I thought it was Octo Mom!
100% looks like they photoshopped her 2010 face onto the cover.
Yep, I thought it was Naya Rivera at first.
I agree. The nose and chin make her look like that wooden hand puppet Madame from the late 70’s/early 80′. Google it….the resemblance is there.
at least madame was funny
Her stupidity is mind numbing.
LOL. GOODBYE KIMBERLY. go back to talking about the complexity of selfies
This is my favorite gossip site but can you scale back on the number of Kardashian posts? It is too much.
The media is pushing her and I don’t have a clue to why? She is a known liar, she is a known history revisionist and she offers nothing of worth to the earth to be this famous or this rich. She is not a feminist in anyway because being a feminist is about equality and NOT using your body to make a buck. I just can’t understand why she has become a media darling all of a sudden. And people who aspire to attain riches by following her route will end up on the street. Society is sad.
@Dawn: Ok, Kim Kardashian is a dumbass and not someone we all like or admire but the fact that she profits off of her looks/sexiness and made a sex tape do NOT mean that she ‘can not be a feminist in any way.” There are prostitutes, strippers, porn stars, other types of sex workers, and models of all genders who are definitely feminists. Feminism is about equality, not modesty or wholesomeness. If Kim K knows what the word feminism means (which would make her slightly less ditzy than I think she is. but she could know the meaning of the word if she has googled it after hearing the word) and does believe that all people should have equal rights, then we can’t say ‘she’s not allowed to be a feminist until she conforms to the right image for us.”
Agree Otaku- Feminism is about having the choice to do whatever the hell you want, in many things including your body, b/c you want to, not b/c the male gaze requires it of you. Now who knows what KKs motivations are for whatever she does, but just because she is not a pearl-clutching prude does not mean she is not a feminist, and can’t be a feminist.
I think she’s a feminist. The problem is that we tend to think that a person who believes in equality is intelligent, ethic, with great atittudes, and it’s not true. A woman who’s an a**hole might as well fight for empowerment just for her sake. Is Kim K this woman? Don’t know, but she seems to be.
So glad I already cancel my subscription to Rolling Stone.
Her answers don’t bother me as much as people trying to ask her serious questions. That’s not her lane. This is not about people just trying to make her a “pretty face” and be sexist; she’s just not that much of a thinker/reader to really have opinions and good information on important topics.
I agree. I thought she sounded okay!
This. Her answer about feminism doesn’t bother me – its the fact she was asked about it. It’s Kim flappin’ Kardashian. She has never proven to be a particularly sharp thinker, and shes well known for actually being the opposite. Why the hell would you ask her serious questions?
“If he was going to come after me”
Kim this interview, like your breasts, are made of LIES.
Also the quote about being happy staying at home and cooking for her (first) husband seems so bizarre against her current persona. I wonder if she’s ever had a strong personality of her own or if she always just does whatever people want from her.
“You want me to cook? Okay Daman”
“You want to make a tape? Okay Ray-J”
“You want me to dress this way? Okay Kanye”
She had her first husband pay for a pile of plastic surgeries, which I suppose she fit in between vacuuming and making the beds.
Right. Her first husband I am sure would have a different view of their marriage. In fact his is not her friend and has zero respect for her and her family or so he has said before.
@The Eternal Side-Eye – +1!
I was really amused by that, “if he was going to come after me” WTF kind of statement was that? Was that an attempt to throw shade? Bruce is some kind of abuser who would attack her for finding out his secret? I’m not sure what she was trying to do there.
You’re 100% correct about her having no self identity, but I find that most women who can’t be single end up this way. Kim has always been with someone, and whether male or female, when you’re afraid to be alone and never spend that time getting to know yourself, you have no real identity. This is probably why she has so many failed relationships, but also why Kanye is probably her perfect match. A lot of people wouldn’t want a partner who brings nothing to the table but his or her look, or someone who looks to their significant other to tell them what to think, what to wear, how to act… Kanye, on the other hand, would marry himself if he could so she is truly perfect for him.
Being a puppet for her husbands’ every need speaks against feminism.
She’s so overexposed that there is literally nothing we haven’t heard 10,000 times from her before in this interview. This entire family has discussed their involvement/the climate in their lives during the OJ Simpson trial. Kris Jenner STILL name drops Nicole Brown regularly. Kim has already discussed her relationship with Michael Jackson’s nephew, and her father’s advice about how hard interracial relationships can be ad nauseam. There is truly nothing new to talk about, and once again, this is further proof that her “amazing career” really isn’t all that amazing because if it was, she would be discussing that and not the same tired bullshit over and over again. It cracks me up that she rails so hard against the fact that she is truly famous just for being famous and she insists that she is some incredible business woman, yet she is never interviewed about her crappy perfumes or crappy clothing line. I think this speaks volumes.
They are trying to rewrite history. They want us to believe they are famous for oj connection and that is where they come from, not p0rn
YUP! Have you seen that they’re making a movie about the OJ trial with David Schwimmer playing Robert Kardashian and Selma Blair playing Kris Jenner? I just want to know why it was necessary to cast someone as Kris Jenner at all, seeing as how she was such a non-figure in that entire case. No one was talking about Kris Jenner during that trial, because no one even knew who the hell she was, nor would they have cared. It is so shameful but so telling that all these years later Kris is still trying to use her murdered friend’s name to gain fame.
This x100!
WOW now Rolling Stone covers, this has to be the second highest social climb after the Middletons.
On the cover she looks like Nicole Sherzinger….
the label question is an important one. all bigger celebs got the memos from their publicists that they need to say it, though obviously most of them dont act feminist in their lives. like George Clooney “Hollywood has always been ahead of the curve” speaks a lot but how diverse are his movies?
i think the feminist label has run its course because how many people identify as racists even if they a racists? “i am not a racist but…”
i am betting money on the phrase “i am a feminist but women should stay at home”!
this mainstreaming of saying “i am a feminist” really was unhelpful in my opinion. it serves nothing. lip service has never helped anything.
I am really confused by your statement that feminism is now mainstreaming……
It’s been mainstream for decades. Heck even Queen Victoria mentions it, even though she was firmly against it.
I’m thinking maybe Kim thought they were asking if she identified as “female.” Which of course, would kause Kim konfusion , because of “male” being in that word and all y’all.
Or maybe she thought they were asking if she thought feminist “are so cute.”
More than likely, Kim thinks (Is that an oxymoron?) “feminist” is a product found on an aisle in a drugstore.
Nice interview, except she’s lying. She’s following a script. None of it rings true if you’ve been following her shifting tales over the years. The cover photo is bizarre. Has Rolling Stone really changed that much?
NOOOOOOOO WE WOULDN’T!!!!!!!!
The term feminist has officially jumped the shark.
So apparently has Rolling Stone!!
Rolling Stone jumped when they put the Boston bomber on the cover.
She dates and marries black men because she likes how they look with her. Interesting.
Yup. Was going to say that this “When I was in high school, I’d get magazines and see interracial couples and think, ‘They are so cute.’ I’ve always been attracted to a certain kind of look” is just a really weird comment…
Also, these people talking about “authenticity” is hilarious.
black men as an accessory or fetish is what i heard
@lisa – I totally agree. She uses them as an accessory, and it’s weird and gross and honestly, if you break it down, actually kind of racist. She doesn’t see past color. She doesn’t seek out black men because she likes their character or personalities. She likes the look of herself with a black man.
I really want to know how much she’s going to “like a certain kind of look” if her kids both grow up to look like Kanye and not the perfect interracial babies she has in mind with exotic eyes, small white features, perfect caramel colored skin, and non-ethnic hair. We already see how she can’t stand North’s curls based on the way that poor baby’s hair is always slicked down or tied up in super tight mini buns. What if their son is born and he has his father’s skin tone? How well would Kanye’s nose on their children be accepted by a woman who has had about 10 different nose jobs to keep making hers smaller?
@Michelle, she won’t mind too much if the boy features the dad with skin tone, hair texture etc but it will be a problem for her if she has any daughters that do.
Plus it’s a bonus that black men can give you super adorable, extra-trendy biracial babies! The perfect accessory that pairs well with ANY outfit.
IKR, she’s so deep. She’s so the definition of a delusional lying bimbo. Shame on Rolling Stone for falling so far….
That cover looks more playboy to me, than rollingstone. In every picture she has to have either her big boobs or bigger bum on show, because you know why, thats the only talent she has. As ffor a feminist dont make me laugh, she doesnt know what the word means.
Yes. that’s a problem, it seemed like she was just saying she likes the way interracial couples look together. If that’s the way she thinks and that’s part of the reason why she chose to be with Kanye. then she’s shallowly (and self-absorbedly) treating black people as ornaments and accessories. That would be a legitimate reason to question her calling herself a feminist.
I wonder if that’s the reason why most of the other women in that family seem to only date black men?
Holy Mammaries, Batman!!
Did I get something wrong or did she refer to interracial couples as a “look”?
Yep. She thinks interracial couples are cute. Remember this is the woman who was worried that the baby buggy would clash with her unborn child’s skin tone. The dictionary entry for “superficial” must include “Kim Kardashian”.
read who said it and you’ll know the answer 😉
I know, but this is too much, even for her. Jesus.
I never thought I would say this but their star is kinda fading a bit… maybe I’m just living in a hopeful world where cake is better for you than carrots, and I can still have kids and never have my period again, but I do think it’s kinda going away. Truly. I don’t think people care as much. And as Kim, Kourt and Khloe get older, their thirst gets more pathetic since they don’t really do anything except.. well, design sh*t clothes, and hang out all day. I am going to bet that within the next two years their star will fade… not by much, but a bit. Soon they will be the Paris Hilton of gossip.
Everything has its moment. Then it fades and we look back and wonder why it held our attention for so long.
I remember that Kris guy she was married to saying to her when she has a bunch of kids nobody is going to care about her anymore. She looked so hurt and it was such a telling moment. I don’t know what Kim is going to be once she is no longer KIM.
If you read the rolling stone article bashing them you’ll understand why they are not going anywhere soon. People are just simply interested in their lives. Too many people just care. Even those who dislike can’t help but see what’s new so they can dislike them more. This family survives on hate. And that’s why they’ve been around for so long. All they have to do is live their life and people will love it and hate it. Very few are disinterested. The whole Bruce/Caitlin Jenner thing brought them even more attention. Then there’s the Rob, Kylie, Scott, Kanye, and Khloe, situation that will bring more attention when the Bruce Jenner thing dies down. Oh and Kim is pregnant. So many possibilities for something intriguing to happen. Something that we can’t help but look at is always taking place in their lives. They will never go away until they all die and by then they will have left new Kardashians to take over.
Sigh. Lights are on but no one is home…thanks again, Paris Hilton, Ray J and Satan (PMK) for releasing “this” on the viewing public.
Don’t forget RYAN SEACREST.
*shudder!*
No in my opinion she’s not a feminist . She can claim it all day long, but it doesn’t mean she is. Feminism is more than just Kim saying or thinking “oh yeah, like, I want women to be like, equal and like, all of the like- stuff … Like, like, like … You know ?” #KimKVoice And the reason I say that is Everything she does is pandering to the male gaze and how men want to see women- as a sex object. The opposite of what women are trying to achieve with feminism. This isn’t about Kim owning her sexuality or fighting for equality it’s about selling it to get attention, fame and money.
i fully agree but being a feminist has been dumped down to say “do you believe in equality? then you are a feminist” she is just saying what people have pushed celebs to say.
its for people who want a bumber sticker slogan and not a political movement.
@Tifygodess24 – I agree. The fact that she still stuffs herself into skin tight clothing and shoes that her feet are too swollen for even when she’s pregnant is even more proof that she is the antithesis of a feminist. Everything Kim and her siblings do is to attract male attention, even to their own detriment. Remember Kim’s swollen feet in those plastic shoes? She may have had a better pregnancy the first time around if she didn’t find it necessary to put on her tightest clothes and go roam around for the paparazzi to get that pat on the head she is always so desperate for.
Also–what feminist encourages their 17 year old sister to get a bunch of surgeries that are so obviously aimed at attracting men because she has an insecurity about her appearance? What a joke.
Feminism really isn’t a movement about policing women’s physical appearance choices though- that is not within the definition of feminism at all. There’s nothing in the definition of the word that says being a feminist means you can never profit off of your looks/sex appeal or try to look sexy for whatever gender you’re attracted to. If you’re going to exclude someone from a political movement that’s about equal rights and human rights, you have to have a damn good reason for it. It can’t be over something superficial like them exercising their right to make choices with their own physical appearances that you feel are wrong, or over consensual sexuality that you have a problem with. No legitimate human rights movement promoting equality would exclude members based on physical appearance or sexuality.
This is part of the reason why a lot of women don’t identify as feminists and say stupid things like “I’m not a feminist because I love men” or “I’m not a feminist because I like to style myself in a way that’s very girly and feminine” or “I’m not a feminist because I love sex/ sexual freedom.” It’s not just the conservatives and MRA misogynous types that promote the confusion and stereotypes about feminists. Sometimes the confusion and stereotypes come from us liberals and feminists ourselves. When feminists say things like “This woman can’t be a feminist because she profited off of her sex appeal/sexuality” or “This woman can’t be a feminist because she has made choices with her physical appearance that turn on males/the male gaze”, what are women supposed to think feminism means? Of course they’re going to think they can’t be feminists if they “love men”, “love sex”, “love sexual freedom”, “like feminine things,” etc. I’ll bet some of the same feminists who get mad at sexually immodest female celebrities for identifying as feminists are also some of the same ones who get mad at the women who say they aren’t feminists for the reasons I mentioned above. “You dummy! How can you not identify as a feminist? It’s about equality!” Well, which is it?
Then there are smart women who are very well aware of the dictionary definition of feminism but choose not to identify as one because they’ve seen the way many feminists try to bully and exclude any woman who’s personal choices with her own body are not in line with their narrow black-and white worldview.
If you’re going to say that nobody who profits off their sexuality can be a feminist, that would require you to change the definition of feminism to a more scarlet-lettering, whorephobic one. (Actually, there is one called Sex Worker Exclusionary Feminism). But that would mean you’d have to exclude EVERYONE who profits off of sexuality or physical appearance from feminism, even the men. And if you’re going to say turning on the male gaze means you can’t be a feminist, that includes anyone who wears or does anything to turn on or sexually please a man. If you’re going to say nobody who gets plastic surgery is a feminist, then hell, that even includes Gloria Steinem, because she admits to having had cosmetic surgery.
@fairy mic drop.
I realize it’s been years since Rolling Stone has been the magazine I subscribed to and never missed. To say that I used to love Rolling Stone is an immeasurable understatement. But…..Kim? How could they? I’ve decided to laugh to stop me bursting into tears.
Yup. It seems that even the formerly-influential Rolling Stone has had to put trashy wannabes on it’s formerly-iconic covers in order to make sales. So sad…
@EscapedConvent – It’s sad isn’t it? I grew up loving Rolling Stone so much, I still remember so many of the covers in the 90’s. I used to go through my dad’s old copies from the 70s. Unfortunately, just like MTV, Rolling Stone died a long time ago. I thought they crossed the forbidden threshold when they put that flattering picture of one of the Boston bombers on the cover as if he was some sort of rock star.
her father was one of the smartest men ever yet she her sisters and brother shame him everyday of their lives, they could have been brilliant and admired but instead they are leaches on humanity and society.
This is an interesting point. Her dad was smart. I am going to guess that her mom must have brains, also, since she runs their empire. And, yet, what about the kids? I would think that someone in that family would be smart in a conventional way, but it doesn’t seem that way, does it? Maybe Rob was smart but is an underachiever.
I’m usually an open person and if you don’t share certain view points with me, that’s ok. But if you are not a feminist, I can’t have any type of relationship with you. If you don’t think women should be equal to men? Nope.
She reeks of desperation to keep herself relevant.
Pha! Kim Kardashian is a feminist? An amoeba cell is more of a feminist than Kim.
Don’t you have to be promoting something or have a project in the works to land magazine covers/interviews? I have to give it to her, she gets so many spreads when she consistently has nothing new to talk about.
She does have a project in the works–she’s pregnant!
Seriously Rob get it together. What a big baby.
If he has mental issues, he can’t just “get it together” on his own.
Why does everything have to be ‘mental issues’ these days? He is lazy. He has never worked to achieve anything. He may feel depressed about it because that would be depressing. I don’t think it’s fair that people like this are now lumped in with people that genuinely have a chemical imbalance in their brains preventing them from being able to not be depressed.
For people that do not have a chemical inbalance the most common cause of depression is spending too much time obsessing about oneself. Start caring about others and suddenly the self-pity party lifts.
The Kardashians are America’s Royal Family. Excuse me while I go puke.
Kim just shaded probably every single fan she has with that “you can’t be just pretty and not have to work” crap. That is why those young girls follow and admire her! She does NOTHING but trade on her looks, as bizarre as they’ve become, and has always had someone else pulling her strings like the fembot she’s become. Oh how inspiring and hard to do! And HONESTY??? Honesty? Girl come ON! Hahahahahahahaha! Even your original face and ass are laughing at you!
I wish she would just make like a tree and get outta here.
Also, when I saw that cover photo, all I could hear in my head was Jimmy Fallon going, “Ew!”
I don’t hate it?
“I rarely wear underwear”.
I immediately stopped reading.
LOL, yeah that definitely induced a major cringe for me as well. Really cutting-edge journalism in this interview, including how Kim has managed to never “flash her biscuit” despite the fact that she rarely wears underwear, and how she views interracial relationships as “a certain look.”
How is the world not entirely tired of this woman already?! She has so little to talk about that they’re now delving into a really crass and pathetic territory just to create conversation.
Well she doesn’t need to wear “underwear” when she has 2 pairs of spanx on !
She wears Spanx 24/7, and given some recent comments about her peeing in them, I am guessing they are the kind that would cover her “biscuit” anyway. So, way to…keep yourself covered I guess Kim?
Did they hire the photoshop artist from the circus for this cover?
kim=disgusting
Somebody with more of a Kim archive at hand needs to check the timeline for the stuff she says in this interview. I’m remembering that she ran off to get married when she was 19 and didn’t tell her dad about it for at least many months. They weren’t even talking for quite a while. Wasn’t she with her husband for a few years? But she says she was living with her dad during the OJ trial? I thought Rob and Kourtney were the only ones who lived with him. And would she have been around Bruce at the time she claims to have been so traumatized? She’s such a liar, fact-checking seems in order.
Also- was this one of those e-mail interviews or did she actually sit down in person with the interviewer?
I straight up like this girl. She ends up on the right side of so many issues. Honestly, how many people don’t think gay people should get married? How many people have issues with interracial dating? How many people refuse to call themselves a feminist? Face it, Kim Kardashian is “on the right side of history.” She’s an ally and I like her and I just do not get what people’s problem is with what she does with her body. It belongs to her. She can do what she likes with it. Bless.
ugh. She sided with her dad who defended OJ Simpson and then just “didn’t think about it” when she realized that was totally wrong. Is there a shortage of clever, talented, thought-provoking young women or something?
So she’s always going commando?? that, I would never understand.
Feminist????????
