Alexander Skarsgard did drag for his San Francisco premiere: hot & fabulous?

Here are some photos of our lover Alexander Skarsgard in drag for the San Francisco premiere of his new movie, Diary of a Teenage Girl. I’m actually not sure why Skarsgard is in drag for the premiere? Someone just emailed and said the film is set in the 1970s and the film features drag queens, so maybe Alex is doing an homage. And let me say this… when Alex does drag, he really goes all out. His wig game in ON POINT. His makeup is extraordinary. And his arm muscles look… my God.

Alex has been doing some interviews in the past week to promote the movie. His interview with The Guardian has gotten a lot of attention, probably because he’s pretty funny in it. Some highlights:

His 6’4” height: “I’m tall in Sweden. But I’m huge in Hollywood.”

His teenage years in Sweden: “The first was when I was a young teenager and didn’t go out much, just hung out at home and played video games. The girls in our class, we weren’t cool enough for them and they found some older dudes with Vespas and moustaches. My late teens were wilder. I discovered partying.”

His work in Battleship: “I’m only in Battleship for 30 minutes. I get blown up pretty early on. I’m a fan of Pete Berg. I still think he’s a fantastic director and I actually had a lot of fun. I know it was a disappointment at the box office but it didn’t turn me off big movies.”

Working with Lars Von Trier for Melancholia: “People cracking jokes, having a laugh. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. It was as close to doing theatre as you can get.”

The Tarzan movie: “When you first meet Tarzan, he’s buttoned up in a three-piece suit in Victorian England. So it’s reversed – instead of it being about taming the beast, it’s about the beast within. There’s the dichotomy of functioning in a civilised society where you politely wait at the post office for your turn, but also being an animal with everything that contains. I can relate to it. I think every human being can.”

Being a Swede in Hollywood: “There are a lot of Swedes in Hollywood in general. We have a tendency to know each other and help each other out.” And go for meatballs at Ikea? “Of course! We drive there in our Volvos listening to Abba.”

[From The Guardian]

Ha, “We drive there in our Volvos listening to Abba.” That really is the stereotype Americans have of Swedes, that they’re all tall and blonde and they all love Abba and IKEA and they drive Volvos and support a strong social safety net. Does Alex ever go to IKEA and think, “Damn, this feels like home?”

    Whoa.

  2. A. Key says:

Hahaha, he does look good here!! No shade, love it.

    • Gea says:

I was always wondering about his appeal and now whoa…..He looks much better in drag, actually fantastic. He let a bird to fly free…Bravo

    • mom2two says:

Agree. Love his confidence. Love him.

    • Jen43 says:

He is glorious. So is his attitude. I guess growing up with a famous dad has kept him grounded.

  3. Calcifer says:

Yes, definitely fabulous! I love it when a man doesn’t take his ‘manliness’ too seriously and shows up in drag. It has to be done with care and creativity though (as it is here), and not in a sloppy bachelor party way.

  4. littlemissnaughty says:

I can’t stop laughing, this is hilarious. He wouldn’t win Drag Race but that makeup is good, needs a bit more blending though. And the wig is pretty epic. Good god, how is it that the guy is in drag and still, all I can think is ARMS???

  5. Lana says:

Yeah there’s a famous drag queen in the movie, and there were a whole bunch at the premiere and he posed with them. He actually looks the most fabulous lol https://twitter.com/StevenUnderhill/status/628443279617462273

  6. Lilacflowers says:

This made my day. And I’m glad Alex enjoyed Melancholia. He may be the only one who did.

    • kai says:

Haha. I tried watching it twice. I’ve actually never made it through any Lars von Trier movie. Not my thing.

      • daria says:

I watched Nymphomaniac last weekend on Netflix. It was probably the weirdest movie i ever saw and that had nothing to do with the sex scenes.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I felt sorry for his character but I laughed when the horse killed Kiefer Sutherland

      • Illyra says:

“I laughed when the horse killed Kiefer Sutherland”

        LOL!

      • FLORC says:

Wait. The horse killed him? I thought he took the pills and ODd. Or was this sarcasm and it’s gone over my head?

    • kri says:

@Lilacflowers-are you psychic or is that Tay Tay?

    • mememe says:

Melancholia is a fantastic film. Lars Von Trier ‘ s best. Every should have won an award for it! You should give it another shot. I’ve probably seen it 20 times. Beautiful.

  7. FLORC says:

My god he’s gorgeous as a woman too… Arms though. They clash with the dress.

And glad he had fun during Meloncholia. Meanwhile all who watched it, including myself, went into a depression spiral for a week… That film is amazing, but FMORC and I were shell shocked for days! I don’t recommend it unless you know what you’re getting into.

    • helena says:

Nah, Melancholy is just a very Scandinavian film, not depressing for us at all. We enjoy angst.

      • FLORC says:

        Oops! Spelled Melon…

That wasn’t angst. It was complete hopelessness! The writing and acting was brilliantly done. And I wonder if all find it entertaining and not depressing in the scandinavian regions.

  8. zan says:

    He’s amazing! 😛

  9. Crocuta says:

I wonder if he’s wearing heels. He’s a tall man, and the wig makes him taller, but now I’m curious if this is his height or there are shoes as well.

    Love it.

  10. Eleonor says:

AHAHA ! A hair nightmare from the ’80s love it !

    • Jan says:

LOL! It reminded me of Farrah Fawcett’s hair from Charlie’s Angels.

      • Ankhel says:

Apparently he showed a pic of Fawcett in a gold dress to the dressmaker… Asked for a matching metallic purse too.

  11. NewWester says:

He looks like Kim Z from Real Housewives of Atlanta

    • the_blonde_one says:

hahahah! i said below RHONY Alex. what does that say about the RH’s that several come up in the comments?

      • NewWester says:

If we start to notice the RH’s with radically different hairstyles that will be proof they read Celebitchy!

    • funcakes says:

      But only prettier. 🙂

    • Katy says:

I know a lot of people will get mad at me for this, but I think he looks like Tom Brady in drag. 🙂

  12. Minx says:

As if I didn’t love him enough already, now he goes and brings his golden goddess Farrah Fawcett realness? I can’t handle it! That wig is everything. I need to know (1) if spanx were involved, (2) what is the lingerie situation and (3) if Stuart Weitzman, Louboutins, or Jimmy Choos come in size 13. The chest and underarm hair are touches of brilliance.

  13. Mrs Fonzieface says:

True story: I’m European living in the Middle East and I go to IKEA to pretend I’m home, and not in the ME in August… Once I even cried in the sofa section because it made me so homesick…

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, that’s so sad. I hate to be homesick. Hugs to you.

    • FLORC says:

Awww! Adding to the GNAT hugs! I lived moving around for school for years. It’s tough. Once you’re through it though you’re happy you did it! And even during you’re happy. Those “creature comforts” though. Not much can replace that feelng of being in familiar territory.

    • Hudson Girl says:

Awww! That made me so sad for you. I hope there’s an excellent relocation sometime soon in your family’s future.

  14. the_blonde_one says:

He looks like Alex McCord (RHONY).

  15. Liberty says:

Ha, I love and esteem him. He brought it. And that flexed arm is Mills & Boon cover-worthy.

  16. E says:

He looks like the male version of January Jones playing Emma Frost in X-men-First Class.

  17. jinni says:

If he’s interested in theater he should try for Hedwig and the Angry Inch; he already has what it takes visually for the part. Also, this was a funny interview and made me like him. I never hated him, but really never paid attention to him for the most part.

  18. Seriously deranged – ugly eyes

  19. Cate says:

If anyone’s a fan of the book, I don’t recommend seeing this, they completely butcher it, it was so disappointing.
They’ve cut out most of the dark storyline and tried for some reason to make it somehow a sex positive story for teen girls that revolves around her having sex with her mothers boyfriend who’s 20 years older.
The book was so much better, the film was just stupid.

  20. Aria says:

Alex is a beautiful drag queen. I saw his brother Bill at in New York and he is the Skarsgard that people should be looking out for…that man is beautiful! No one I was with watched Hemlock Grove on Netflix but i recognized him immediately and made my friend walk past him with me just so I could get a closer look. No shame in my game….Skarsgard genes are a blessing on this earth.

    • Lana says:

Too bad bill skarsgard is an ungrateful asshole. The kindness gene apparently skipped him in the family.

      • Aria says:

ooh what happened? I don’t know anything about that. do tell!

      • littlemissnaughty says:

Aria, his interviews can be … interesting. Fan encounters too. But a lot of it is hearsay I guess.

      • Jessica says:

No!! Not Bill! I think he’s the hottie in the family. Anyone have any examples of his alleged asshole behavior? Or any good stories to tell? I don’t really know anything about him, I was just hoping he would turn out to be one of the nice Swedes.

  21. Lucy says:

Beautiful. Love it. He’s totally working it. And he gives a great interview.

  22. Joy says:

He looks like a slightly more manly January Jones. That is all.

  23. Andrea says:

Whoa this blew my mind. This makes me like him more for some reason.

  24. alice says:

He looks like Daryl Hanna. He’s not a pretty drag queen, like let’s say, Jared Leto was. And is strange because he’s such a gorgeous man.

  25. j.eyre says:

I am not sure I agree with you about his wig game. The dress is majestic but the hair needs a second think.

  26. Daria Morgendorffer says:

I love this man. He is hilarious and clearly very comfortable in his own skin. Very refreshing for a male celebrity.

  27. TX Laney says:

Dressed in drag or Viking realness, I would still climb that man like a tree.

  28. chet says:

Isn’t this offensive to transgendered? It seems like the transgendered equivalent to black face or cultural appropriation.

  29. Jezza says:

Could not stop LOL!! Even in drag he gives me the vapors. Love him!! He is everything!

    • Ankhel says:

I now have, um, unexpected imagery in my head. Involving me peeling a bronzed man out of a gold dress, while he looks at me coyly, gold hair streaming over the pillow… Holy Hekate. What just happened to my life?

  30. siri says:

Neither hot, nor fabulous. Looks very over-the -top drag. Bad wig, bad makeup, and he doesn’t have any grace in his posture. A smile would help, too. No, I’ve truly seen much better drag.

    • Chrissy says:

I’m a stickler for good posture but, in his defense, it would be kind of hard to have good posture when he has both arms around two women who are at least 2 feetshorter than him. I love that he did this!

    • Ange says:

I kind of wish he smiled more, looked like he was enjoying it. It might just be these photos but he is kind of sucking the fun out of the exercise.

      • siri says:

That’s what I was thinking, too- did he even enjoy to dress up like this? But ok, he obviously can make fun of himself, and that’s a good one. And @Chrissy is right, he truly is tall.

  31. lile says:

WOW!!!! He looks fantastic, although that wig is VERY 80’s……IMO. But, all in all, he’s killing it!

  32. nemo says:

FYI, Alex was in a drag (?) in one of his earlier films.

  33. bros says:

for a second I thought it was Sandra Lee.

  34. Camille (the Original) says:

Love him, he’s adorable (and so hot!).

  35. Lucy2 says:

This is simply amazing. I love it.

  36. Scout says:

He looks great, but he’s the blandest actor ever. His dad is a bit better. The scandis or northern europeans have impeccable accents though: Michiel Huisman, Connie Nelsen, Alicia Vikander, etc. They blend into HW and Brit productions very well.

  37. Jezza says:

All I have to add is – pulling.it.off.

  38. NeoCleo says:

He looks like Glenn Close’s younger, tackier sister. The arms are hilarious and good for him having a sense of humor. I still think he looks better sans fards.
