Tom Brady’s email cache revealed as part of his federal appeal: interesting?

wenn5942711

Last week, Tom Brady’s four-game suspension was upheld by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Goodell’s decision, it seemed, revolved around the cover-up for Tom Brady’s Deflated Balls of Lies and all of the sketchiness around his phone, text and email records around that time (January-March of this year). Brady issued a lengthy denial and the NFLPA appealed Goodell’s ruling to the New York federal court. You can go here read Deadspin’s coverage of the inside-football part of the case (Brady’s lawyer sounds like such a bro). In the context of this appeal, many of Brady’s emails and texts have been released publicly. And there’s some interesting gossip stuff in here, which I wanted to cover. Some highlights:

So many emails about his $8,500 winter pool cover: “What kind of morons don’t have a white cover? Can we check with another company?” Brady wrote to his manager, after whining on e-mail, “These f - - king idiots, why don’t we have that same cover for the year-round cover?” Later, Brady writes: “G decided on gray and order is in.” Gisele gets the final word on pool cover colors.

Brady on Peyton Manning: “I’ve got another 7 or 8 years. He has 2. That’s the final chapter.”

Checking in with a Tom Ford exec in October 2014 to see what hot, new fashions she had for him: “I was wondering if there was anything new to show me or any updates on the polos with the rugby fabric. Also, do you have any black sneakers in the high top in my size or any suit fabrics?”

Vancouver Canucks hockey team owner Francesco Aquilini: Aquilini begged Brady to go to dinner and Brady used that as an opportunity to ask for money for his foundation: “I do have one request. I am starting a foundation . . . to educate all athletes on sustained peak performance.”

Emails to and from Bridget Moynahan. She emailed: “Isn’t it cool that jack got a reading award!? he gets to wear a reading star pin now too. so proud.” Brady replied: “He is such a smart boy. And he is a hard worker. I’m so proud of him.”

[From Page Six]

Deadspin was doing a lot of coverage of the email dump too – go here to read. There were a lot of sycophantic emails from other athletes and sports-adjacent people telling Brady to stay strong in the wake of Deflategate. Gossip-wise, all that means to me is that Brady surrounds himself with a lot of people who worship him and not a lot of people who tell him #HardTruths. It’s also sort of nice to see that after all of the drama, Tom, Bridget and Gisele have found a way to have a respectful co-parenting situation. Gisele even emails Bridget separately sometimes:

I think it’s nice that Tom, Gisele and Bridget seem to get along so well.

    • Tiffany says:

That is what I took from it as well. When it comes to Jack, they are adult.

But as someone who likes Manning, you shut your awkward looking lady pleaser, Tom.

  2. Esteph says:

I might be the only one here, but I am over Tom & Gisele. They both get on my nerves…

  3. Kiddo says:

    Now that was DEEP. LMAO.

  4. korra says:

….this is getting really out of hand. It’s sweet they’re All able to be cordial. Also Brady a grey cover?

  5. Kitten says:

Deadspin has EXCELLENT coverage of the court transcripts. http://deadspin.com/here-is-the-transcript-from-tom-bradys-appeal-hearing-1722113452

It’s really long and I suspect most people won’t read it but it really drives home the bullshit piece of garbage that is The Wells Report. It’s great to see all the news outlets FINALLY coming around after all this time. Mortensen finally deleted that Tweet that was an outright lie about 11 out of the 12 Pats balls being 2 lbs under and finally admitted the The Wells Report is a joke:

“I was also on the record as saying there never should have been an independent investigation. There should have been a review, get it to the competition committee, slap people on the wrist and move on. But that’s not what the league chose to do.”

    • Crumpet says:

      Really? Interesting…

    • Audrey says:

Thank you! Sick of reading biased coverage. Brady having friends support him is not a sign that he surrounds himself with sycophants ugh

Brady testified under oath, which was his own idea. He also wanted the appeal transcript immediately available to the public but the NFL refused. We’re only seeing this cause the judge said no to sealing and the union/brady filed unsealed records before the NFL could object.

The real story here isn’t Brady’s pool cover. It’s that this release has revealed multiple lies by the NFL. Goodell may not be in charge much longer, this is a PR nightmare. He lied while upholding the suspension and is being called out on it by everyone.

Ugh don’t let brady hatred blind you to the real story here

      • Kitten says:

YES, Audrey. The tide is turning and I’m f*cking loving every second of this. NFL can east sh*t.

The thing is, many of us (including myself) who actually READ THE WELLS REPORT have been saying since day one that there was ZERO evidence in those reports that indicated that Brady, McNally, Jastremski or ANYONE in the Pats organization tampered with the footballs.

I laughed my ass off when I saw the latest red-herring from Goodell and the NFL about the destroyed phone. Because, you know destroyed phone = GUILTY.
Please don’t use logic at all, just let yourself get played like a pawn by the NFL.

        So let’s see:

        1) They already confiscated Jastremski and McNally’s phones. The premise of The Wells Report is that Brady and the equipment managers were in collusion to deflate footballs, so based on that shouldn’t all incriminating texts be on those two phones?

        2) In preparation for his June 23 appeal, Brady hired a forensic examiner to do the searches that Wells originally requested. Brady gave the forensic examiner two of his cell phones to examine. One of the phones was active between March 6, 2015 (the day he was interviewed by Wells) and April 8, 2015. The other phone was active between (probably) May 23, 2014 and Nov. 5, 2014. The examiner was able to retrieve 557 texts from the second phone and none were between Brady and the equipment managers. The first phone was deemed irrelevant to the investigation as the time period was not of interest to them.

        3) Brady actually WROTE to AT&T requesting copies of the texts sent from Sept 1st, 2014-March 1st, 2015 and was told by the company that they only save texts on their servers for 3 days. What guilty man would do that???

        4) Brady was being pressured by the union to not turn over his phone. There is a ton of private info on there that goes beyond just photos of Giselle and his kids, there’s info about collective bargaining agreements, plays and strategies and other information that Brady had a vested interest in protecting for the sake of his career.

        5) Brady specifically ASKED his lawyer if he needed to save his phone and was told by his lawyer that he can destroy it per his usual process as the NFL has everything they need via Jastremski and McNally’s phones.

        I mean come on.

EDIT: Thank you to The Mod Gods for letting me post footbally links here 🙂

      • Kitten says:

That should say “NFL can EAT sh*T” 😉

    • Stellainnh says:

Thank you. So many people are wanting Brady to be punished without looking at the facts. This is a big wrong that hopefully will be righted in the courts.

      • Kitten says:

Oh it will be. In the meantime, all the hate is firing Brady and The Pats up which is always a good thing because we all know how they play when they’re angry.

We’re going to a pre-season game next Thurs.
I expect that they’ll be looking pretty fierce.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Unfortunately, it is rare that a court will overturn an arbitration decision. The scope of review is extremely narrow and it does not include facts.

    • EricaV says:

      YES Kitten AMEN!

    • Heather says:

Thanks, kitten! Excellent coverage at Deadspin. I am so glad the truth is finally coming out about Goodell, the NFL and Wells. The way they have lied about many things, manipulated the media, and conducted an all out witchhunt against the player that makes the NFL the most money is pathetic. The players are surely thinking to themselves, who is next? Me?

And the millions upon millions of dollars they have spent to try and tear down the NFL’s most recognizable player…it’s just sad.

  6. PunkyMomma says:

    He’s precious.

  7. Zan says:

He thinks he will play for another 7-8 yrs?!?!? He’s 38.
I mean, he may be an expert in “sustained peak performance”, but…
Perhaps he thinks he will be revelant for another decade or so? That is more likely.

    • Zan says:

      Ugh. Relevant.
      Shouldn’t do early morning commenting.

    • Audrey says:

We’ll see. He takes great care of his body but the decline can happen pretty abruptly.

I’d say 3-4 guaranteed and then we’ll see

    • LeAnn Stinks says:

Yes, just like his wife, he certainly has a very inflated opinion about himself, doesn’t he?

Did he forget he was sidelined almost an entire season with a knee injury? He is not a superhero, and like you said Zan, he is 38. To quote the ESPN desk, “C’mon man.”

  8. MrsBPitt says:

I think calling TB “whiny” because he wanted a white pool cover is stretching a little!

    • what says:

Agreed. These are private emails we were never meant to see.

      • Kitten says:

..and then people wonder why he destroyed his cellphone just like he’s destroyed every cell phone he’s ever owned.

      • Erinn says:

Oh absolutely. But at the same time – dude needs to take a step back and realize how minor of an issue that SHOULD be in his life. Not getting your first choice of color for a stupid pool cover shouldn’t cause such anger.

Also – why is he asking his manager if HE can try a different company? Are they buying it for him or what? Just call another company Tom. That part was weird.

    • Audrey says:

You have to read it in context too. A white onewas suggested and he said he said he liked that and wanted it. Then was told tthere were no white ones.

He wasn’t just on a white cover mission and he never anticipated having people see these

    • MrsB says:

True, and if you read the entire exchange instead of the one little part posted in this article, it makes perfect sense. I read them yesterday, and thought it was all funny. Nothing in those emails made me think badly of him at all. On the contrary, I thought they made him look pretty good.

Coming from a Dolphin fan who has no love for the Pats.

    • Josephine says:

Agreed. I’m highly amused that of all the emails that were released, this was as good as they could get to make a fuss over. These emails are so banal. Even his barely negative comment about Manning was boring and not the least bit insulting.

  9. Jess says:

That’s great they along with Bridget now, that was a cute exchange between two proud parents. I wonder if bridget is still dating McG, I looked but couldn’t find any recent pictures or news.

  10. Marigold says:

I’ll tell you what-if this is the response to the release of over 1000 personal emails, I sure as hell understand why he wouldn’t turn over his phone. The better story is the actual crap that is the Wells report. If you don’t like Brady just because, nothing is going to change your mind but the science does not back up the punishment. In fact, the science was the expensive work of charlatans and certainly makes his punishment seem arbitrary and personal. But this is Roger Goodell we’re talking about so I guess I’m not surprised.

  11. Mimz says:

I see nothing scandalous here….. YET.

where are the emails about deflategate? that’s what im waiting for…

    • Lilacflowers says:

      There aren’t any

    • Kitten says:

      Hi Mimz 🙂

The emails between the Patriots’ lawyers and the NFL’s general counsel were released. The reason you haven’t heard sh*t about them is because they illustrate how Deflategate is a farce created by Goodell to cover up the sh*t storm that he created. The NFL has been scrambling to cover-up. Here’s a link if you’re interested:

      http://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2015/08/01/emails-show-the-nfl-failed-to-stop-misinformation-as-part-of-deflategate/

      • Audrey says:

Yeah, the NFL has gotten the major sports networks to not cover those

Pro football talk has great coverage

      • Nessa says:

I did not realize the NFL commissioner was so shady. He is single-handedly ruining Tom Brady’s legacy, for what purpose??? It’s clearly a malicious attempt to undermine everything the Patriots have done on the field, but why?!?

      • Audrey says:

Not sure if it’s really about Brady. More Goodell needing to stay strong to restore his credibility. Which backfired badly.

Really every NFL fan should realize that their team could be next. Goodell can’t be trusted

      • Heather says:

Audrey, that is exactly what I am thinking. The NFL needs to fire all of these d@cks – Goodell, Vincent, everybody involved. Every team and every player needs to think real hard….it could be them next.

      • Kitten says:

I’m not big into conspiracy theories but knowing how corrupt the NFL is, it’s not hard for me to believe that the other 31 owners would have an interest in taking down the Pats and would decide to take matters into their own hands. If you think about it, the dynastic run that the Patriots have had over the past 15 years costs each franchise sh*t-tons of money.

Now if you look at the email from the Ravens to the Colts complaining about ball pressure it’s easy to think that they put it an email on purpose, to be used later. Harbaugh has proven again and again that he is not above sour grapes. Even though Harbaugh said unequivocally that the Ravens had nothing to do with the tip-off about Pats footballs, they have the emails that trace everything back to the Ravens GM. So he definitely knew. The question is, why would he lie about it? Why not just admit that The Ravens organization were the ones that sent the email to the Colts?

Maybe the owners just got tired of their teams getting beaten and decided to do something about it? They got Goodell involved, who then proceeded to back the 31 owners instead of backing the dominant franchise.

So yeah…I refuted the sting operation rumors for a long time but after putting everything together, that theory seems completely plausible to me.

Even if you don’t buy into the idea that it was a set-up, one thing is crystal f*cking clear: the NFL organizations is greedy, corrupt, and sketchy as hell.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@kitten, that the Ravens organization would cooperate with the Colts organization on anything is an insult to the people of Baltimore.

  12. Furimika says:

The thought of releasing my texts and emails makes my skin crawl, if I were famous and had to do that – oh God…… There’d be so many people who’d never speak to me again.

I’m really impressed that his emails are so innocuous!!!!!!

    • jc126 says:

It’s chilling to contemplate, isn’t it?

    • Annika says:

Me too! I felt uncomfortable reading them.
I’m not a Brady fan, a Patriots fan, or even a football fan (used to love football when I was younger but the bullsh*t politics & $$$ turned me off) but these are personal emails. I don’t think they make him look bad.
I think it’s great that they are all coparenting so well. Good for them.

  13. Adrien says:

    Any emails inquiring about waterslides?

  14. cdoggy says:

I don’t know if the man checked his balls or not. That being said, I do try to check my “balls”before a big game at work. However, some things slip past me though, especially as a teacher of six year olds. Some little “star” wrote all over a white board in permanent marker yesterday. $&@!’

  15. Jana says:

The biggest difference between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning is class. Peyton has class and Brady doesn’t. Oh, and he’s a cheater.

    • BackstageBitchy says:

@jana you are out of your mind.
Peyton is a douche! I can say from personal experience, his “aw shucks” routine is exactly that, a routine.
From being dismissive to fans to being outright hostile to press, adding in the high school sweetheart turned nouveau riche brittle bleach blond footballer wife , you have the total opposite of “class”…

  16. CR says:

I like this couple (especially Gisele).
“Tom, Bridget and Gisele have found a way to have a respectful co-parenting situation…” Is this news? No! But of course some people (LeAnn Stinks and Tiffany) will not believe it. Manning lovers…
Tom Brady has nothing to hide. His emails are so… Zzz!

    • Tiffany says:

As the tension around their relationship was high at the beginning, it is nice to see them getting along. I never not believed they would not.

My comment about Manning was just that, not about his wife, or ex. You like Brady, good for you. But if you think saying name checking me means I won’t spar with you, think again.

  17. brooke says:

Now that weve seen his private emails..can we finally see hillarys public ones? Or are they destroyed….
