Kim Kardashian’s ‘morning sickness drug’ endorsement was made of lies

kim1

Hey, remember how Kim Kardashian did an Instagram endorsement for the “morning sickness prescription medication” Diclegis? That happened back in June, and obvious shill was obvious. Kim claimed that she was being paid to make an entirely questionable endorsement of an entirely questionable “morning sickness drug,” but I always thought that Diclegis probably slid some money under the table for that Instagram pic. Well, funny story – Kim has deleted the above photo from all of her social media accounts. Why is that? Because Diclegis is in hot water following Kim’s ringing endorsement:

Kim Kardashian has gotten the attention of the FDA, and not in a good way. The agency is threatening to yank her morning sickness drug of choice off the market … because of her endorsement. Kardashian hit up her various social media accounts last month to announce she was “partnering” with a company that makes Diclegis, a morning sickness pill. The problem … Kim sings the virtues but not the risks of the drug … something the FDA requires.

So the FDA fired off a letter to the company, asking them to stop “misbranding” the drug or take it off the market. The letter demands the company correct the problem by getting Kim to repost her endorsements with the proper warnings. A rep for Duchesnay USA tells us they had a deal with Kim for only one post. The rep says they’ll submit the corrected plan to the FDA for approval.

[From TMZ]

Well, will you look at that. Duchesnay – the makers of Diclegis – did speak to Kim ahead of time and what do you want to bet there was a major check involved too? And of course it’s a huge clusterwhoops – that’s why you should never EVER take medical advice from a Kardashian. Ever. I don’t care if they’re shilling CPR or baby aspirin. DO NOT TRUST THEM. It’s actually a wonder that a Big Pharma company didn’t realize that they were bringing a ton of unnecessary heat on themselves by having Kim endorse the product.

Meanwhile, as I said in my post yesterday, Kim posted a photo to “prove” that her pregnancy is real. She posted a naked photo with a long message about how her pregnancy is real and she just isn’t as miserable in this pregnancy because she doesn’t have preeclampsia. This photo does prove it conclusively, you guys. No more #bumpspiracies for Kim.

It’s so shocking that a Kardashian would do something shortsighted and so thirsty for money!

  2. Someone says:

Lol I’m so sorry, but if you’re taking real medical advice from the people who insert fillers and botox into every pore of their plastic body…well ..you should reevaluate some of your life decisions.
These people, man. It’s totally our fault–we feed into their nasty empire. I am right now by commenting on a post about them.

    • Lindy79 says:

I think of it as natural selection. Those who look up to these vacuous nits kind of deserve whatever happens to them as a result of blindly following them.

    • LadyMTL says:

It’s sad to say, but a lot of people almost blindly follow whatever a celeb tells them to do just because it’s a celeb who says it. Look at the Jenny McCarthy vaccine thing, Dr. Oz’s shilling of green coffee beans, and so on. The Kardashians are just the latest in a long line of them.

      • Sabrine says:

I felt a chill go down my spine when I saw her promoting a drug for morning sickness. I took Bendectin years ago for a short time not giving a thought to it being unsafe. Meanwhile, it caused birth defects in some children. My son is fine although he has a poor immune system. I don’t know if Bendectin caused that or not. Just braveheart through it,

      • Betsy says:

Well, in the Dr. O case, he is a practicing doctor. It’s a lot harder to discern that kind of shill from a Kardashian.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

Any person who blindly takes prescription advice from a twit with a high school education and zero medical training has it coming to them.

    • Andrea S. says:

I agree @SOMEONE. They’d go away if we & every other human being out there wasn’t clicking on every little 411-tidbit on them.

So…what Duchesnay USA basically is saying: “woah ok, calm down! We only paid Kim for 1 lowly post & we’re pretty sure she won’t comply in posting a warning without another extortion level fee from us, so we’ll just fix it ourselves.”
*Goes back into boardroom to hang head low & admit $$ spent on Mrs. Kardashian-West did not go exactly as planned*

      • Carey says:

        @Andrea, EXACTLY.

      • AnnE says:

Call me skeptical but I think the company did all of this quite deliberately, knowing that they were in breach of FDA – drug advertising laws! That is the reason for a single tweet. What I would like to know is if KK’s “management” knew they were in breach of FDA – drug advertising laws, GOD knews KK would have no clue! I am of the mind, they knew but did not care as long as the check cleared. They are fully aware that nothing will change the opinion of their uneducated followers.

  3. Starrywonder says:

Why would anyone take medical advice from these clowns?

    • Daria Morgendorffer says:

Came here to say this. I would imagine that the majority of the public would automatically assume this stuff was snake oil because of the fact that a Kardashian is attached to it. I would never ever buy or take a medication of all things that had the Kardashian name associated with it. Let’s not forget they were sued over their weight loss products when people began getting sick and also because the stuff didn’t work as advertised.

  4. ShazBot says:

In fairness to Duchesnay, we have Diclectin in Canada and it works…millions of women use it and there seem to be no ill effects. The pharmaceutical company is a but sketch in some of their dealings though, clearly.

ETA: it is also extremely well researched and studied…probably one of the drugs most studied for pregnancy.

    • vauvert says:

But this has nothing to do with the efficacy or lack thereof of the drug. I am Canadian too and we have the same rule (Health Canada and the FDA often mirror each other); you cannot advertise a drug without also listing side effects. Take a look at any magazine or tv ad for a drug – they have to state the side effects. The zero brain cells Kim thought she was so above the law (rappers pee on me, so I am a special snowflake) that she did not need to add the disclaimer to her online shilling for the company. Shame on the company for not ensuring that the idiot did her job right.
They probably paid her under the table so they thought she could pass it on as “honest opinion” as opposed to advertising, but the FDA caught on. Hope they fine both parties.

      • ShazBot says:

Bahahaha “rappers pee on me so I am a special snowflake” is amazing

And yes, good point. Shouldn’t have expected more from her, and as I said above, Duchesnay is a bit sketchball too.

I just more wanted to say Diclectin isn’t like thalidomide, and don’t let the wrongness of this pea-brained scheme impact the opinion of the medication…it works wonders for people who can’t keep anything down!

      • littlestar says:

I’m wondering if the makers of this drug got in trouble with Canadian authorities as well? Apparently this drug is made by a Canadian company and drug companies are not allowed to advertise their drugs in Canada. Maybe this was seen as trying to get around the not being able to advertise in Canada, and they got in trouble for it?

  5. Snazzy says:

Like everything else in that family

  6. NewWester says:

My word!! That one photo of Kim, she looks like a alien from a planet of cat people.

    • MonicaQ says:

Everyone sees cat but I’m more of a Llama person myself. Probably because her face has been lengthened so much.

      • MrsBPitt says:

@MonicaQ….lol…I’ve been wondering who Kim has been looking like lately! She is total Llama!!!!! You nailed it!!!!!

      • parissucksliterally says:

Camel. Too much space between her nose and mouth.

    • jwoolman says:

It’s her Zoolander pose. Please leave cats out of it…

    • Chrissy says:

My God, the amount of makeup this woman wears! My skin’s breaking out just looking at her. Also, she looks so camel-like to me now too. Ugh! Who in their right mind would take medical advice from this uneducated pea-brained twit?

    • BarkingMad says:

Agreed – I’m not seeing cat, either. I’m sure it’s some sort of insect, but haven’t yet figured out which one.

That nude photo… What has she photoshopped? If you look at the white door frame on the left, and more so the silver frame (or whatever it is) next to it, there’s a inward bend. I tested it with a ruler, too. Bit it’s almost 3:30am here…am I just seeing things?

  7. dr mantis toboggan says:

Considering that all Kardashians do is lie and Photoshop instagram photos, I’m still very much team pillow.

    • eowyn says:

No need to be a pillow.
Today they make fake belly who will have your skin color. The most famous pics of that are from Peneloppe Cruz in bikini on a movie set with her fake belly. If you didn’t know it was fake, you would have believe she was pregnant.

      • laura.e says:

OMG! I just googled Penelope’s fake bump. That is crazy believable!!

I wonder if Kim will invest in some prosthetic cankles as well to complete the look…

    • Tifygodess24 says:

Dr. mantis – I have to agree – this Instagram post means nothing to me because the house of Kardashian is built on lies and deception. Not to mention The photo is not very close up and in dark lightening so that to me stood out. I’m not saying she’s lying about being pregnant but I’m certainly saying a Instagram photo of it isn’t a 100% proof either. Come on. And here we another post on how she lied -yet again- so I take nothing she says or does as the truth. Like I said we shall see. Prosthetic bumps are amazing and look real as real can be- hello hollywood.

      • Chrissy says:

I was thinking that maybe it’s a photo of her last pregnancy!

      • Zip says:

Yes, Chrissy… Maybe she should have shown a recent newspaper into the camera so people would at least believe the date. Ugh.

    • Mel M says:

Yep, I’m still on the fence whether this is real or fake but this photo proves nothing. I saw a bigger more close up version of it and it looks really photoshopped. The part on her body below her elbow just doesn’t look right and could be a photoshopped bump. Idk, the whole thing is strange, how dark it is, how far in the background she is, it’s not her typical in your face, show every detail selfie and that’s what makes me question it even more.

  8. lisa2 says:

If you re pregnant and taking medical advice from some celebrity you are a fool.

I always believed Kim was pregnant. But she and others need to stop reading about themselves. Her butt is really big.. I guess that is where she is carrying most of the new weight. She seems happier this time around as far as the pregnancy is concerned

  9. Lindy79 says:

I really could have died a happy woman having not opened an article containing yet another picture of her bum crack.
Ive seen hers more than I’ve seen my own

  10. Miss Gloss says:

Um…I don’t think anyone said you were ever “too skinny”, Kim. Nice humblebrag.

    • Lucy2 says:

      Lol.
Gotta love when famehos like her act indignant and victimized by rumors, when you know she was ecstatic to have another excuse to post naked pictures of herself.

      • AcidRock says:

Spot on, Lucy! My thoughts exactly. What a sad existence to spend every second simply in knee-jerk mode, responding to what others say about you and your life. ANYTHING to pose nude again, as if anyone hasn’t already seen enough of her plastic body.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

Did the world really need another picture of that woman’s naked rump?

  12. blue marie says:

And absolutely no one was shocked by this.. I think I’d be shocked if something they endorsed actually did work..

  13. greenmonster says:

Did anyone actually called her “too skinny”? People were wondering about a maybe missing bump… that does not mean skinny. Kim wishes people would call her skinny. I think she has a nice body, but most of the time she is dressing for someone else’s bodytype.

  14. jwoolman says:

Her problem was that she was trying to disguise a paid advertisement as just a friendly recommendation. She also failed to identify it as a paid ad, as the law also requires. But the FDA is quite correct that ads for drugs must indicate potential side effects. The advertisers put them in teeny tiny microscopic print or have them rattled off at auctioneer speed, but they have to be there.

Hopefully this will be the last time she shills for a pharmaceutical company. I imagine her disguised ads for other types of items could similarly backfire (doesn’t she worry about liability if something goes wrong?), so maybe that little revenue stream will dry up.

    • swack says:

DIdn’t the company at first deny they were paying her to advertise the pill? I could be wrong on that. But maybe at the time it came out they denied paying her knowing that she did not put up any of the side effects and disclaimers so that they could avoid all this mess and blame it on her when things went wrong. Just a thought.

  15. Mally says:

Now that Jon Stewart is gone I wish that John Oliver would do an in depth story exposing all the celebrity endorsement on Instagram that are not identified as such. How does doing something like this not carry a fine?

    http://jezebel.com/the-big-bad-world-of-products-celebrities-promote-on-in-1710470780

  16. Dawn says:

So what about Kim is not a lie? Her face is a lie as is her boobs and her ass as it is all surgically changed or enhanced. And yet she still lies about her lip fillers and big butt! She wears fake hair and fake nails. She looks like a cartoon and she doesn’t care as long as she get attention and makes $$$$$ she will sell anything.

  17. Josephine says:

I’ve always thought that she was pregnant because her face looks . . . bizarre. But this pic is still photoshopped to no end. I understand that she wishes that she looked like that, but she simply doesn’t. And since when does she take such a poorly lit pic of herself? I just think she’s sad that she’s not getting enough attention and just a sad person in general. Nothing joyful at all about her pregnancy, or even her life in general.

  18. swack says:

I still do not believe she had pre-eclampsia with North just as I believe she did not have severe morning sickness with this pregnancy. Had she had it, she would not be able to fly around like she did nor be out and about in LA like she was. The minute my blood pressure went up with my first pregnancy I was told to stay off my feet as much as possible (and I had very little swelling in my ankles and feet) and was not allowed to go and even watch my team play their softball games. And if she did have pre-eclampsia and ignored her Drs. advise then she put herself and the North in danger.

  19. INeedANap says:

That’s what I look like after a Chipotle burrito bowl. Sure, I might be fat, but at least I’m honest.

  20. Jayna says:

You’ve selfied yourself in the dark, dingbat. Why would you needed photoshop or filters?

    • me says:

She still photoshopped the pic though. Look at the steel bar on the door…it’s curved in one spot. Never believe anything this woman says…ever.

  21. Snowflake says:

Why does she have her leg posed like that? I think she’s really pregnant, seems like it would be really hard to fake, esp if you’re in the public eye. Kanye prob promised her a really nice push present if she did it one more time. Plus it gives her another chance to promote her milf image

  22. alicegrey12 says:

Kim is a fool and she should have known better than to hawk a medicine without talking about the risks. It could hurt the baby. Kim you are the biggest fool in the world. Doing something just for the money and the company.

  23. M.A.F. says:

The only thing that photo proves is that 1. she reads the tabloids (which we already knew) and 2. her butt keeps getting bigger with the implants.

  24. funcakes says:

What a piece of work. Has she never heard or read about the ramifications of thalidomide thirty years ago?

  25. Andrea says:

Ugh … That image has been burned into my brain. She’s just gross! I get pregnant bodies are suppose to be beautiful …. I’m the mother of two. I just find her so repulsive!

  26. Saywhatwhen says:

She is starting to look like a goat to me. Very sad.

  27. tifzlan says:

I don’t understand why this woman has to ALWAYS resort to nudity to prove a point.

People say i’m not classy because of my sex tape? Here’s a tastefully shot NUDE Playboy shoot to prove all of them wrong!

My T&A isn’t real? Here’s another NUDE NUDE NUDE photoshoot with me balancing a champagne flute on my butt!

Pillow pregnancy rumors? CLOTHES OFF. Let’s prove these haturzz wrong!!!

    ???? She’s so extra.

  28. Jaana says:

Kylie is getting too much attention so of course Kimmy had to take her clothes off.
Is this site on board with the Kardashian Kleanse? No Kardashians for all of next week, but instead positive articles about empowered women from all over the world?

  29. Susan says:

Anyone who takes advice from a Kardashian is an idiot. That being said, doing this is very shady.

I will also say that Diclegis is saving my life right now. I was so miserable with morning sickness, and it’s the only drug that is helpful to me. It’s extremely safe. In fact, it’s the only drug for morning sickness that is a type A medication. It’s also been used for years in Canada. Unfortunately, most insurance companies won’t cover it so it’s exorbitantly expensive. Like $300 for 30 pills expensive. And what’s frustrating is that it’s just Unisom and B6. It’s in a time release form, so that keeps me from feeling drugged out and seems to last longer. Luckily, my doctor gave me samples. But some women have luck with just the Unisom and B6 combination, so it’s worth a try once you talk to your doctor about it.

    • Jenna says:

I have been doing the unisom+B6 and even that has been a freaking lifesaver. I’m still vomitting 2-3 times/day and I feel queasy pretty regularly, but I was doing even worse before I started taking it. At least now I get to sometimes feel normal and I can keep most of my food down. I do wonder how much morning sickness Kim has experienced b/c even with the medication there is NO WAY I was to be out and about or interacting with people any more than absolutely necessary right now. If I could, I would just take sick leave for the next few weeks and hole up in a dark room waiting for the morning sickness to end!

      • swack says:

I truly don’t believe she had morning sickness. If her morning sickness was that bad, no way she could be flying all over the world like she was or out and about ALL day long.

    • Steph O says:

@susan diclegis saved me this pregnancy too! I was kind of bummed to see such a useful medication associated with such a useless person.
Paying a Kardashian to shill a prescription medication seems majorly shady. Who on earth at Duchesnay thought that was a good idea?!

    • jwoolman says:

I’m sure the pill’s price tag is what inspired Kim to endorse it, not its efficacy (unlikely that she ever took it herself).

  30. Tracy says:

I’m surprised that you’re surprised. Every time, and that’s every single time, a celebrity mentions a specific product in social media, they’re being paid to do so. Period. I can’t believe this is still news.

    • word says:

Especially a Kardashian/Jenner. Did anything really think Kim took those pills? Yeah right. She wants EVERYONE else to take them but I highly doubt those even touched her lips. She’s so damn money hungry it’s disgusting. They did this with those diet pills too…and then there was that Kardashian Visa thing that ripped people off. Companies should run from this family.

  31. Nicolette says:

A Kardashian lied? Let us know when they are truthful about anything. My next step will be to get out the winter gear because hell will have indeed frozen over.

  32. Mon says:

So this pic is meant to prove she is pregnant? yes, of course, at the end of the day she has never ever photoshopped her pictures and its known for her honesty….

  33. prissa says:

The picture where she has on black, all that contouring on the lower half of her face makes it look like she has a 5 o’clock shadow.

And this dimly lit, grainy picture proves nothing for me. Why couldn’t she just do an impromptu move while out on one of her aimless pap walks and raise her shirt???? THAT would prove something!

  34. Tiffany says:

Mothers and mothers to be, help me out. I thought that if you have morning sickness club soda and crackers help and was perfectly safe. Not HG, but just your standard nausea.

    • Jenna says:

They can certainly help, but not always that much. For me, my “morning sickness” was a pretty much all-day affair, I’ve been vomiting multiple times/day and feeling varying degrees of queasy pretty much around the clock. I did ALL the non-medical things my doctor recommends (eat a few crackers before getting up, eat small meals throughout the day, ginger ale/ginger tea, sucking hard candies), and they all helped a little, but overall I was still a mess. This was not HG, just bad but “normal” morning sickness. I started taking b6+unisom (OTC version of this drug), and I am SO glad I did. I stopped vomiting as often (down to just 2-3x/day) and started getting some stretches of time where I felt semi-normal and was able to do things other than worry about whether or not I was going to start retching at any moment. If I were able to get the prescription version of this pill I would as I’m sure having it in a timed-release form would be more effective.

Even with the drug, I am definitely not “normal”. I’ve had to curtail my exercise routine significantly because pretty much anything other than walking is too intense and upsets my stomach. I really don’t feel like socializing at all. I keep a plastic bag and a hand towel in my bag at all times in case I suddenly start throwing up somewhere that doesn’t have a bathroom nearby. This is just not the sort of thing you can fix with a few saltines. This medication is massively more effective.

Diclegis is a class A drug and as others have mentioned, has been used safely in Canada for years. It’s really not fair or accurate to compare it to thalidomide like some people have done on these threads, it’s been subjected to much more testing and used more widely (with no negative impacts) and for a longer period of time.

      • Tiffany says:

Ok, so there are medications out there that help with morning sickness.

I just feel it is dangerous for not only for Kim to take a check to advertise it, I mean it is not like Kim does research except if the check clears, but there are fans out there who will take her word and nothing else.

      • Jenna says:

I do agree Kim’s endorsement was sketchy as h*ll, but I don’t think that means the drug itself should be villified or dismissed as the next coming of thalidomide, which some folks have been doing on these threads.

  35. Tacos and TV says:

Oh Kim. Dear heart, your thirst is real. I know it’s hard losing fame and seeing it dwindle before your glassy eyes… I know it’s difficult watching your younger sisters get headlines while you have to pose naked to prove your pregnant because no one cares that you are pregnant. No one. I know it’s not easy getting older (for you. when in reality getting older is a true blessing) and knowing that soon your a** and face won’t be worth as much (because it’s Hollywood)… I’m sorry Kim. I am. I hope you accept my internet hug and my internet hand while wipe away your “tears”.

    Love,

    Your biggest fan!

  36. Tough Cookie says:

…meanwhile that poor door is wondering what it ever did to deserve being abused like that….

  37. Polhillian says:

I had pre eclampsia in my first pregnancy and was hospitalised for 5 weeks before my son was delivered at 31 weeks.

If she is going to get PE again, I think it’s pretty early for her to get it at the moment, I’m pregnant again and due around the same time as her, I’m being really closely monitored and that’s what I’m being told, at least.

PS I’m so grateful for the NHS

  38. G says:

She’s looks so weird like an elf or a velociraptor.

  39. lucy says:

    1. The photoshopping is plain to see on the warped door handle.

    2. The belly looks like she simply had someone photoshop one of her *sscheeks onto her front.

  40. lucy says:

Yes, the contour is EXACTLy the same as her as*cheek in the very same photo, AND, the profile of the front “bump” is not at all the same as the shape of the one under her clothes. Her clothed “pregnant” profile shows a shape more like if a <3 were cut in half, i.e., higher on the top, not a half circle.

She not only assumes we're stupid, but blind. also! But let the charade continue….

  41. juno says:

Diclegis is Bendectin rebranded. Bendectin’s makers stopped making it because of all the lawsuits from birth defects.

Kim K is an idiot, so greedy and desperate to prove she’s pregnant that she’ll shill for something she’s never used. I hope no one took her advice.

  42. Her butt looks more pregnant than her stomach. WTH has happened to her face. Is it photo shopped long or is it melting? Her and Kanye both look so miserable in every picture. Probably ecstatically happy just don’t want to create smile wrinkles. What a sad life. Money and things but where’s the joy?
