The Cambridges’ £60,000 Anmer Hall tennis court plan has gone through: yay?

wenn21851178

Note: I’m using some older photos of Waity & William for fun, because I was getting bored with the ones from their meager public appearances this summer. Anyway, back in July, the UK papers had some interesting details about William and Kate’s latest renovations to their enormous Anmer Hall property (which sits on the grounds of Sandringham). The renovations to Anmer (including ripping out a perfectly beautiful kitchen that was only a few years old) cost anywhere from £1.5 million to £2 million by most estimates. That was before Will and Kate decided to move the existing tennis court to improve the view! The new/moved tennis court will cost around £60,000. And they’re in luck – the plans were just approved!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been given the go ahead to build a new £60,000 tennis court at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. The new astro-turf court will replace one which has fallen into disrepair and will be built 36ft away from the original in a move to ‘improve the views’ from the 10-bedroom mansion. Meanwhile, the existing court will be dug up and turned into part of the back garden which cannot be seen from the public road.

The Sandringham estate was granted planning consent to carry out the work on Wednesday by King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council. Documents on the council’s website reveal that no members of the public, councillors or officials from public bodies objected to the plans. The building of the new court will involve the removal of 10 trees including a silver birch, Japanese and Norwegian maples, a fruit tree and a laburnum.

A tree survey report commissioned by the estate as part of the planning application described the trees as of ‘low and moderate amenity value’. It added that their removal would have ‘no significant impact on the publicly seen landscape’. The plans also involve the planting of three new oaks to make up for the loss of the trees.

A Kensington Palace spokeswoman said: ‘The new court will not be paid from public funds and is replacing the existing court which needed extensive resurfacing.’

[From The Daily Mail]

“Not be paid from public funds” = Prince Charles and the Duchy of Cornwall, I’m assuming. Although you never know, the Middletons could be funding this one since Carole has decided to make Anmer her home and Carole loves some tennis.

Meanwhile, in the ongoing saga of Why Kate Will Never Attend Weddings, People Magazine had a decidedly odd and detailed story about how it’s all just some huge misunderstanding and she needs to look after herself or something – go here to read the full piece. The explanation that People Mag got for Kate skipping Bear & Daisy’s wedding was that Kate NEVER planned on going and “she had previously sent her regrets about not attending and was never expected.” I guess that’s why her name was included in the place settings, because she sent her regrets. After that, People just details all of the weddings she’s missed out on, something something babies and breastfeeding (although Kate can and will spend hours shopping and having her hair done).

What else? One person (photographer Mark Stewart) say that Kate and William are “uncomfortable” with the attention they bring when they’re attending social events like that, but that doesn’t explain why William attends and Kate doesn’t. And finally, People Mag pushes the endless narrative that Kate is simply loving her “country wife” life at Anmer and “with help from a beloved nanny and a housekeeper and Kate’s own hands-on mum, Carole Middleton, she can easily head out to events if she wants to.” I’m not sure what that means? Is that shade? Like, at the end they’re saying, “You know all those reasons we just gave? Just kidding, she has plenty of help and if she really wanted to attend your wedding, she would.”

But from what I understand, Kate went to Devon, she just didn’t go to the wedding. Perhaps she had a last minute case of the runs.

    • Kaiser says:

That’s very interesting! Where did you hear that?

      • Natalie says:

Actually the comment section here. People were saying she did actually travel there.

Edit: Thanks Betti! And yeah, in the comments for the wedding story, there’s a linked tweet

      • Betti says:

On Twitter – people were tweeting that they had seen them (Wills and Kate) getting off the train. Though to be fair they may have mistaken Pippa for Kate, hair colour the same.

      • Kaiser says:

Thanks! That would be very interesting if she really did decide at the last minute not to attend.

    • notasugarhere says:

Wouldn’t someone in Devon, like a hotel employee, have talked by now?

    • Citresse says:

      Natalie
I’m more inclined to believe she and William had a big fight a la Mustique.

      • Natalie says:

I agree, Citresse. That’s just the conjectured excuse in my family when someone doesn’t turn up or is running really late to something. When that person finally shows up, we offer them fiber.

      • Citresse says:

LOL oh, I thought I missed a historical report from the UK detailing Kate’s long battle with IBS.

  2. Eleonor says:

Two overspoiled tantrums babies. That’s what they are.

  3. Betti says:

Well, now we know what Waity has been doing with her time – planning with Mummy the new ‘tennis court’ which is obvs more important the the war vets who fought for the freedoms they both clearly enjoy with their new tennis court and lush estate that is paid for by other people (either his father or the taxman).

Their funds should be cut until they start doing proper Royal duties. They can live of her family – but wait they’re broke and Willy/the tax payer is supporting them.

  4. Beth No. 2 says:

These two are so boring, even their gossip is boring. Tennis court renovations and wedding invitations? SNOOZE.

  5. MrsBPitt says:

So, Kate said “I’m not going to any events until I get approval to move my tennis court”…(something, like a kid, holding its breath until they get their way”! That’s my guess!!!!

  6. Sixer says:

I know you guys like your research, so here’s the actual planning decision:

    http://online.west-norfolk.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=NQFV07IV05900

They’ve been required to replace any trees (everyone has to do that in the UK). And the various reporting organisations have noted quite stiffly in their supporting documents that funding isn’t an issue in a decision of this type. Ha. So presumably SOMEONE had been asking!

    • BearcatLawyer says:

      Thank you, Sixer!

This is why CB is the best gossip site on the web: we get the facts, analyses, AND opinions.

      • frisbee says:

And we get them off people who can do links! I can’t do links, will somebody please tell me how to do bl**dy links!!!!

      • Sixer says:

I just copy and paste but all my posts go into moderation before going up. Not sure why, keep meaning to email and ask but never getting around to it. So presumably our glorious Celebitchy leaders see what links I’m posting and know they’re useful (hopefully) and not pr0n or anything.

      • frisbee says:

I don’t post Pron! Well only once or twice 🙂

      • bluhare says:

All the best people are in moderation, Sixer. Frisbee, Jada and I are too. It’s all that filthy language we use.

      • Sixer says:

Haha. All I meant was, perhaps there’s an auto ban on links in unmoderated postings, so those of us who are moderated are able to post links as they are Checked By Humans and known to be ok? It would be awful if Celebitchy comment threads were full of spammy, pr0nny links by bot-types because nobody was checking.

        Filthy language is life-affirming!

      • frisbee says:

@ Bluhare – I am deeply, deeply tempted to try posting a link straight into ‘Malcolm Tuckers Best Rants and Soundbites’ on You Tube but fear I would be banished for life! I’ll try this instead

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Sixer, all my posts go into moderation, too. It hurts my feelings. Lol

      • Sixer says:

It’s probably just an automated thing, GNAT. I doubt it’s anything personal. I’ve run messageboards in the past and it’s a time-consuming effort, it really is. I’m all for automation tools, even if it does mean I get the scarlet M on my posts every so often.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh, good. I won’t take it personally then. Thank you. I was wondering what I did wrong.

    • COSquared says:

Wait…Aren’t everyone’s comments moderated? I’m moderated every time. My CBer heart is very offended!

      • frisbee says:

Don’t be it just means you are inclined to get interesting …(I’ve been moderated since I posted a Philip Larkin poem – ‘This be the Verse’ – ok it had the eff bomb in it but it’s still bl**dy poetry innit?) or alternatively it’s automation as Sixer points out above

      • bluhare says:

Every one of mine is too, so don’t be offended. As I said to Sixer only the most interesting people are in permanent moderation! 🙂

      • frisbee says:

Bluhare, so basically were like the CB version of St Trinians? http://www.virginmedia.com/images/1sttrinians-gal-girls2.jpg
        Fair enough…

      • bluhare says:

I’m the one end right. It’s actually not so far off when I had my natural hair color!

      • frisbee says:

Gorgeous then? Had a feeling you would be…second from left me, short and well, short.

      • bluhare says:

Actually it was more the tall, skinny and frizzy hair with a sneer. But I’ll take gorgeous!! And not saying this to suck up but I loved your gal. I can’t decide on Sixer. I definitely see the dominatrix look there, but I really want her to be the bad ass in pony tails. 😀

  7. BearcatLawyer says:

Oh Kaiser, you know you picked those photos to show how Duchess Kate flaunts her engagement ring! 😉

  8. Susan says:

My smutty senses are tingling! I smell a scandal of some sort. Stories like these were popping up when Charles and Diana were going through some things…and i came across some old photos of Kate. It’s shocking to see how she’s changed…and not for the good. She used to smile and appear bubbly and happy and…I don’t mean to be mean but just….prettier. Lighter. Stuff is not good in that house I’m convinced.

  9. ncboudicca says:

Damn Astro-Turf court. Tacky, tacky, tacky – and can’t wait to hear all about the “mysterious” staph infections that will be going around their set after friendly tennis tournaments at Anmer.

  10. suze says:

I am trying to piece together the thread of the DM stories.

Cambridges have stopped appearing together at private events.

William is gone from Anmer. A LOT.

Carole is a common presence at Anmer. More so than her son in law.

The close, normal Middletons will be vacationing in November without Papa Bear Michael.

Money is still being tossed at that country fortress home Anmer while the expensively remodeled Kensington Palace stays empty.

There is one official event on the horizon, in October.

    Am I understanding?

    • Sixer says:

I call it the Venn Diagram of Wealthy Indolents.

      • suze says:

        HA!

That’s what happens when you piss off the press. They feel compelled to point these things out.

      • ladyg says:

Sixer, since you’re one of the resident Brits, I have a question for ya. A 100%, totally gossipy, question. OK, so, Ben Ainsley. What’s his deal? Reputation wise, among U.K. residents, that is. The first I heard of him was here. And man, were he and Kate ever exuding mutual chemistry in those pics. I could feel the sizzle through the screen! So, yeah, wondering if he is known as a cad in the U.K.? Is an affair between him and Kate an utterly preposterous notion?

      • ArtHistorian says:

I’m not British but the only thing I know about ainsly is that he can be something of a prat when making unsportsman-like statements about his rivals in the sport. Apparently he did that quite a few times about his closest rival during the Olympics. He was Danish and the Danish press didn’t like it – so it may have been a bit overblown.

He’s a good-looking guy but he comes off as something of an arrogant prat in interviews – at least those that I’ve seen. There’s just something about him that rubs me the wrong way.

      • ladyg says:

Thanks ArtHistorian. Now, I’m off to youtube to find interviews with Ben Ainslie!

      • Sixer says:

ladyg – people like Ben Ainslie because he’s a mega-Olympian. He gets lots of votes in TV viewer sports awards and things like that. Insofar as I know – which isn’t a lot – he is not on anybody’s gossip radar, however.

ArtHistorian – oh yes, there was that Olympics interview he did when one of the other sailors did a dirty water trick on him and he got all aerated about it. “You don’t want to make me angry!” Ha. Everyone here loved that – partly because he went on to get the gold medal in a mega-comeback, but also cos we got to take the piss out of him!

    • bluhare says:

LOL Suze. I think you are!

  11. Chrissy says:

I’m wondering if she is possibly having some postpartum depression or something. I’m hesitating to really think too poorly of her not “working” more while she has such young babies at home, especially when she is possibly nursing one. (It’s so hard for me to consider appearances at charities working but whatever ….). Maybe one day we will hear if more is going on here. I’ve always thought I’d hate to be married to someone in the public eye. To me, even the wealth, jewels, palaces isn’t worth all of this speculation.

    • Sixer says:

I think you’ll find it’s more a case of all the lights are on but nobody’s home.

    • Tina says:

I don’t know of any kind of PPD that lets you go to Wimbledon, sailing events, state dinners, Caribbean tours etc whilst preventing you from doing more boring duties.

  12. Jan says:

OT, but God, I hate her hair! And that gaudy ring!

  13. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I don’t play tennis, but isn’t that a lot of money for a tennis court? It’s about $95,000, right? Maybe I’m just out of touch…

    • bluhare says:

I think it’s because they had to dig it up and move it 3 centimeters or something like that. 🙂

  14. Cricket says:

Why is Carole always there? Has she finally found her perfect country cottage with a swimming pool, tennis court and room for a pony? Is there a sauna there too?

Something is definitely up, is it with the Cambridges or Midds?

    • notasugarhere says:

Does it have a white slimline telephone and Royal Doulton with hand-painted periwinkles?

    • Citresse says:

I thought the “Carole is always at Amner” stories were proven false? Anyway, I’ve heard club Amner has a new housekeeper.

      • bluhare says:

        Operative word: “always”. 🙂

And yes they do. Hired after a grueling round of interviews I understand.

      • FLORC says:

        Citresse
Yea those stories… They weren’t ever proven false. The DM just didn’t want to expose their sources. Since the claims were challenged the only way the DM could say “no this is totally true according to our inside source” was to give them their identity. Doing that might not only harm their source, but also their future relationship of tips.
Instead they just said we can’t confirm that and backed away.

This story certainly doesn’t help the narrative Carole is still with her husband at their home and not micro managing her daughters home, life, marriage, and child.

  15. Murphy says:

You know, Kate fans make the excuse that she can’t phsycially curtsey as low as Countess Sophie and Princess Beatrice because she has knee problems…does a woman with knee problems really need a new tennis court?

  16. Cee says:

I really want to know how Kate straightened her teeth. They look different from the engagement days. I’m honestly curious as I don’t really want to wear those permanent braces for a minimum 2 years.

    • Deedee says:

Those are veneers. If you look at the pics of Kate holding George at his christening, there is one taken in profile, with Kate smiling widely, where they didn’t bother to photoshop the real tooth that shows where her veneers end.

      • jill says:

imo her teeth looked better BEFORE the veneers – more natural and there was nothing structurally wrong with them. if anything, her bite looks off with the veneers.

      • Cee says:

OMG you’re right! Her dentist didn’t match the colour between the veneers and her teeth.
There are many dentists in my family – my sister being one of them – and they hate veneers. Unless your teeth are absolutely damaged, then there’s no need. Healthy teeth are reduced in order to put the fake teeth in, and they’re not as strong as and will need replacements.

I thought she had used those clear braces, the ones you can wear during the day and remove whenever you want to.

      • FLORC says:

So much of her looked so much better and natural, before the cosmetic touchups.

      • Vava says:

Yes, the veneers. They look plastic, sorry Duchess.

I had a friend who did veneers and they completely changed her appearance – for the worse. The process was grueling for her and she did it to please her husband at the time. They are now divorced. Not over the teeth, but still…………….. Anyway, her teeth looked like blindingly white Chiclets and she’ll need to replace them before too long. Sad really.

  17. Citresse says:

That baby blue tone coat looks nice on Kate.
As for the tennis court, isn’t that old news?

  18. ImFlying says:

Why do people like this family enough to care about their tennis courts? I am not trying to be ugly, I am really asking. If they are not marrying and sleeping within their own bloodlines, they are communing with demons, having occultist ceremonies, and planning the demise of anyone that will not eventually bow down to the pope. I guess some people will yell at me for saying this, but I am simply stating the truth. I guess it doesn’t matter to some people? Baffling.

    • FLORC says:

To move the tennis court was to take land from people who make their living off the land. As this is done bit by bit it addss up greatly over time.

  19. Kate says:

Possibly stupid question, but why doesn’t William pay for things like this rather than his father? He has a significant amount of money from Diana right, so why are we always hearing about Charles buying their clothes and things like this? Is that just how it always works or is William basically the rich person equivalent of those loser 30-something’s who’ve never stopped mooching off their parents.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I have wondered the same thing. I thought maybe Charles paid for the clothes that were “work-related” since, theoretically she wouldn’t need all of the expensive gowns if she wasn’t doing all of the official engagements…. Trails off…. Remembers there are hardly any official engagements…
      But I’ve thought the same.

      • Deedee says:

I’m sure Charles uses her official wardrobe as a write-off for taxes. She re-wears a couple things and is declared “frugal” even though the other royals re-wear clothing all the time. Or she wears an inexpensive dress with a $2K Alexander McQueen belt. When she does go to Will’s friends’ weddings, she wears these “work clothes,” which I would see as a contradiction. Meanwhile, 70+ coatdresses are hanging in a closet somewhere. Somewhere else (maybe far away) is Will’s closet, stuffed with identical blue suits.

      • notasugarhere says:

When one spends $6000 of Duchy money on a hand-painted silk day dress, one must wear it at least twice. Once to a charity polo match in California (official) and once to a wedding (personal time).

    • Tina says:

He inherited £10m from Diana, in trust. Sounds like a lot, but not enough to keep their lifestyle up for even 5 years.

      • FLORC says:

I want to say it was a lot more than that. The numbers get tossed around. Diana’s will had an original version, but after her passing it was rewritten to choke out anyone other than William and Harry. Her family and godchildren were left with far less if anything and that’s not what she wanted. Also it was to be Harry getting more money than William because William being the heir would have more access to funds. That was also altered.

William not only got more, but he had his funds invested for ages and that money was never touched. Still, it’s barely touched.
Even so, he couldn’t live past a year or 2 at his current rate.

      • notasugarhere says:

She was said to received £17.5 million. It was invested, but it it was also stated that W&H would pay death duties (40 percent) when they inherited it.

  20. India says:

She’s got to have a nice tennis court to play on with her two children. After all, they cannot let them leave Amner Hall too often because they are afraid someone will snatch their DNA proving they are not hers and Willy’s bio children.

  21. NUTBALLS says:

With all the horrible molester / adultery douchebaggery of the past couple of days, the royals actually taste like a palate cleanser.

It’s time for a dandelion break:

      Aw, thanks.

    • notasugarhere says:

Most definitely. Off to find a Bloom County omnibus.

    • NUTBALLS says:

NOTA, did you see that Berkeley Breathed resurrected Bloom County last month?? His political cartoons haven’t lost their spark. It’s my daily treat!! Binkley, his dad, the anxiety closet, Milo, Steve Dallas… they’re all back!!

      • notasugarhere says:

I missed that, thank you! Off to Comics / GoComics website to add to their clicks. Scored all four volumes of the complete Bloom County at the public library an hour ago.

      • NUTBALLS says:

FYI: Berke is posting daily on his facebook andon twitter (@bloomcounty). Enjoy!!

PS: I’m still hoping that Quiche Lorraine and Milquetoast will reappear. They were two of my favorites.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’ve read 1980-82 from the library copies already. So much mocking of the royals! Diana roaming the palace in a pair of shorts, Charles in the bathroom playacting king with the plunger, and baby William describing himself, “The Lord of the Crumpets is grumpy.”

I’ll have to remember that line. It suits him.

  22. wow says:

Hmm, in a way I don’t blame Kate. On one hand, I would pay nothing but dust to all of Williams croonies who treated me badly while dating William. But then on the other hand, that would also be the reason I would attend each of his friends dour weddings…to get some payback because the press would focus more on Kate and Williams presence than the actual bride and groom.

She’s playing it better and mature by not going I guess. But I would go in full snark form and throw major shade. Lol.

  23. Imo says:

Let’s keep some perspective. It is a waste of time to get upset because royals want to live a luxurious Royal lifestyle. Like it or not that is what they are supposed to do if they want to keep any sense of glamour about them which is necessary in order for people to keep believing they need a monarchy. It makes a lot more sense to complain about the lack of work that they do and the fact that they are not earning or at least pretending to earn this lifestyle.
As for Charles paying for everything well in one since that is his business and no one else’s. And to make the argument that it eventually comes from taxpayers well the same thing could be said about Andrew and his daughters. You have to except the Charles is free to do with his money as he chooses or face the fact that it is all taxpayer money and some cents or another. And since no one is willing to do that we might as well stop complaining when he spends money on his children. He spent a lot of money on Camilla before she was his wife so again he can do with his money as he chooses. The renovations made to Kensington Palace should be questioned and disparaged by the public to no end. Renovations to a tennis court on private property are really no one’s business. William not stepping up to the plate and doing his share of Royal work should be questioned. Kate deciding for whatever reason not to go to a stupid wedding is no one’s business.
What kind of King is Charles going to make? What kind of decisions will he and act and how will it change the face of the monarchy? What if anything will Edwards roll look like in the new monarchy? Will Sophie come to the forefront of the junior royal brigade or will she and her children be phrased out like the Yorks? If we insist on talking about things that matter these silly fluff pieces will recede and the interesting, intriguing and fascinating royal discussions of the past just might reappear here.

    • Vava says:

I don’t really care about their houses, cars or vacations. I’m most interested in the fashions and their relationship with each other.

    • notasugarhere says:

It isn’t his money. The Duchy of Cornwall is not his private property, the Duchy of Lancaster isn’t the monarch’s private property, the Crown Estate doesn’t belong to the Windsor clan. They’ve already admitted that some public money was spent on Anmer, but they hushed it up quickly.

Silly us being interested in fiscal responsibility, a hint of empathy for austery, and a sense of duty along with the constitutional flummery. (And the tiaras!)

We are all free to discuss what we want on here. You are welcome to participate or not. The name of the site is Celebitchy. If you’re looking for discussion about ONLY royal public work with no negativity and gossip allowed, I’d suggest The Royal Forums.

    • bluhare says:

If they ever do anything that matters I’ll be quite happy to discuss it. I don’t care what they do with their own money either. It’s their money. But I will say apparently someone cared about the tennis court redo as they had to publicly request approval. And the individual leasing the few feet of land taken to accommodate their request may care also.

    • suze says:

Anything about any other celebrity is fair game but for the royals we have rules?

    • FLORC says:

      Imo
I’m with bluhare and nota. It’s (imo) more about the land grab here. And how the endless justifications need to be made to sell why Kate apparently can’t do anything. It’s over the top and i’m still a bit amazed people eat it up.

This tennis court (imo) has always been about the land grab and how the petition that left sight… That is just incredible. It’s about as honest as Charles wasnting to take the publics source of income (duchies). At this point we know she won’t work unless it interests her. And that would be fine if the pr wasn’t so against anything close to an honest image. But…that’s jmo. I’ve made it clear the pr bs seems the source of much of this nonsense.

      • Vava says:

Yes, the PR games are what make discussions of the Cambridges interesting. You’re right about that!

      • notasugarhere says:

I’m awaiting the collective analysis of the latest doozy DM article about The Middleton Rules codified to protect her from her life of privilege.

      • FLORC says:

These games… They’ve painted Kate as 2 extremes. A hard worker and not a hard worker. Someone who will work and then someone who doesn’t want to find the time. To sell these angles justifications and excuses are made and they are constantly contradicting themselves. How people believe this without a 2nd thought makes me wonder.. Thifty and spender. Tired new mom/well rested new mom. Anxious to work/Wanting to stay at home and not work. Do people really just read and believe? Eventually the press will turn on her because… she’s not royal by blood and that makes a difference. Will those who believe the pr continue to believe the pr when it’s negative?

Just look at the recent stories printed. On the face of it it reads like Kate is being attacked, but in reality it’s more shade towards Will and Kate seems fine in the article. That people don’t pick up on that makes me think little is getting absorbed.
        End rant.

  25. anne_000 says:

That must be a load off their minds that they can now get rid of the tennis court view from their windows.

  26. Imo says:

Of course gossip mixed in with the serious stuff is a lot of fun but when it is all griping all the time it gets dull and predictable.
I mean can we discuss Anne’s disaster of a marriage or Harry’s traipsing around Africa or the rumor that Charles is a pantheist while Camilla supposedly scoffs at religion?

    • suze says:

Lol ok the last bit is interesting. But probably only to me. After all Charles has to lead the CofE at some point. How does a Pantheist with an atheist wife do so?

      • bluhare says:

        Carefully. 🙂

      • Sixer says:

At some point, years ago, he suggested he wanted to be Defender of Faiths, not Defender of the Faith. I think that’s where all this is coming from. Sadly for Chuck, he won’t be able to singlehandedly disestablish the church (wonderful though it would be if he could).

PS: I’m going to use this comment to type antidisestablishmentarianism. Because I can.

      • FLORC says:

        Sixer
“because I can.” I love it! It’s not often you can 😀

    • notasugarhere says:

Presumably you would find those discussions on royal forums. CB is posting about current news items, which we then discuss.

IMO, imo, if you think the discussions here are “dull and predictable” that is your opinion.

This pictures just highlight how she always hold her left hand to show of the ring. I never noticed it until someone mentioned and now it’s all I see. She does it in every photo! Wow.

  28. bettyrose says:

Loosely related aside, in a 1994 episode of Vikar of Dibley (Netflix), a dying woman is confessing her sins. Vikar says “who among us hasn’t transgressed?” Dying woman “Prince William.” Sigh. 1994.

  29. Tilly says:

Please can we have less stories about these two bludgers and more about some hard-working, glamorous royals – such as the one with the fabulous style and hair (Letizia?)?

Waisty and Willy are so boring and offer nothing. Besides, if they’re to be believed, they don’t want to be reported on (but I bet as soon as interest in them dries up they’ll be offended by that too), so let’s just ignore them. Hopefully all their invitations will dry up too.

    • FLORC says:

There is a USA tour coming up of those working royals. Already requested it be covered 😀

Part of the allure(?) of these 2 is that there’s scandal and crazy lengths to deny the obvious actions. Occam’s Razor Guys. If they make time for things they want, but never things they should do… It’s not some crazy reasoning and justification. It might simply be because they don’t want to. And that might be fine if the PR angle wasn’t to visit journalist to tell them what they should be writing about these 2. Or overcompensating them with sugary sweet fluff. Why can’t there be even a moment of honesty that isn’t buried in an article about hait and dresses?

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, Felipe and Letizia be at the White House September 15th meeting with President Obama. Please cover it Kaiser, please?

And +1 to everything else FLORC wrote too

    • Vava says:

It would be fun to ignore them, and add the Kartrashians to that list as well. Sadly though, I doubt that will happen.

  30. miasys says:

Epic resting Bitchface in the gray fascinator. Pretty please only use that one forevermore? You just know she’s thinking, “Die, peasants”. Or pondering over which pair of wedges to wear under her coronation gown.

  31. msthang says:

I think the marriage is seriously on the rocks, I am starting to feel sorry for her!

    • SavageGrace says:

Why should you feel sorry for her? She chased him for a decade fully knowing what she was getting from him and the press, yet and kept on chasing him until he finally settled on her. She’s got exactly what she wanted. And when they divorce, she’ll continue to do what she loves best: spend money, get coddled by her mummy and sit on her arse. She’ll never have to worry about a bill, if she’ll have a next meal or where she’ll lay her head at night. There is nothing to feel sorry about at all.

    • notasugarhere says:

And much of the blame thrown at the feet of Charles and the courtiers, with some thrown at William and HM too. No one to help her learn how to do this job, William at a wedding played as him partying like a 20 something, cutting comments about her appearance when she doesn’t want to spend money on clothing she hates fashion (LOL).

      • LAK says:

the comment about the lack of assistance had echoes of Diana. I can’t believe they used the same untrue reason regarding royal assistance. whatever happened to her being so prepared we would all be impressed. not to mention all that gaffe about doing it all. How often have we said she needed to hire people to help her with her role and now she has the nerve to say no one helped her????????!!!!!

i realise this is Richard Kay speculation, but that one excuse really annoyed me.

also, the throwaway line about Kate having to deal with ‘William’s veneration of his mother’. aren’t we always saying those Diana nods are deliberate rather than being cute?

      • Vava says:

LOL………….right – she hates fashion, that’s why she spends tons of cash on new frocks. hahahahaha……….not to mention all that time with her hair. Hopefully she has stock in some eyeliner companies! heh.

The underlying message I took from that article is that some people are wondering about the state of the Cambridge marriage.

  32. SavageGrace says:

Land from a tenant farm and paid for by Charles (rather than, you know, out of their own millions). Gimme, gimme, gimme.

    Lovely.

    Ugh.

    • notasugarhere says:

I expect them to take more surrounding land within a year. They’ll make a security claim about the tennis court being right on the property line (where they CHOSE to move it), security team needs access around the full perimeter, et voila tenant farmer loses even more land.

      • SavageGrace says:

Oh yeah. There is no doubt in my mind they’ll be finding reasons to take more land. The farmer should have said no and told the greedy gits to just remove the old one and build a new one if they wanted a tennis court so badly.

And we’ll see how much they even use this new court. Much like their 60-room KP “apartment” that millions were pretty much wasted on, I doubt it’ll be very much. e_e

        Ugh.

    • anne_000 says:

If I remember correctly, their excuses were that the tenant farmer wasn’t using that bit of land anyways and that it was such a small piece of land in the first place that he wouldn’t miss it.

Also remember that both their KP apartment and AH estate had tenants who still had time left on their respective leases, with the KP previous tenants being a charity(-ies).

So everybody else had to be moved, nudged out, lease voided, land taken, inconvenienced, whatever.

      • SavageGrace says:

Yup. Tis the Cambridge motto: Gimme, gimme, gimme.

But don’t dare ask for anything in return. You know, like visits to their charities. W-w-w-work… the horror!!

        Ugh.

Hopefully they’re officially knocked off their Sainted thrones soon. The latest articles give evil, mean ol’ me hope of turning tides. Please, God.

  33. Imo says:

Sometimes I wonder if these royals no something that we don’t know. Sometimes I really think that Charles has inside information that after his turn as king is over there really will not be a monarchy. I wonder if he has encouraged his children to get everything good thing they can while they can. Perhaps Anne also figured this out and is doing the same thing with her children. So you might as well slim down the monarchy and Harry might as well busy himself with his military and conservation efforts. Will and Kate might as well grab all of the palaces and land they can and keep their personal money in the bank. I don’t Know.

    • Jaded says:

They can’t “grab” palaces or land. They are merely held in trust for future generations. The only privately owned residences are Balmoral Castle and Sandringham House, which are not publicly funded. None of the current members of the royal family could anywhere NEAR afford the upkeep of any of the royal residences so once the monarchy starts to be whittled down, most of the royal homes will be turned into historic sites that generate income by opening to the paying public.

  34. Imo says:

So does anyone know what Charles is up to as far as the sovereign grant?

    • FLORC says:

This is something i’m trying to follow, but haven’t been able to understand easily. And for once it’s not about any translaations issues. This is just very muddled (?). All is meant to be hidden so you can’t understand imo. He’s being really shifty though and I don’t trust these moves. Very squirrely
      .

    • Tina says:

In short, he wants to be given the Crown Estate in exchange for relinquishing the Sovereign Grant. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-3202953/EPHRAIM-HARDCASTLE-Prince-Wales-wants-financial-independence-state-King.html

If he pulls it off, it would be a land grab of extraordinary proportions. The Crown Estate does not belong to the monarch and never has. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crown_Estate The monarch used to manage it (until 1760) and exchanged both his right to the Crown Estate and, crucially, his duty to use its revenues to govern the country, for an annual income in the form of the Civil List.

The Civil List was changed to the Sovereign Grant in 2012. Now, the Sovereign Grant is set at around 15% of the revenues of the Crown Estate. Charles wants it all. This 2010 article explains why and how the 2012 changes were the first step: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1343143/Ones-money-Why-Prince-Charless-secret-20-year-campaign-make-richest-king-history.html

      • Tina says:

It would be a lot of political capital (and actual capital) for the Conservatives to waste (Labour would never do it, but they’re going to elect Corbyn as leader so they won’t be in government for a while). The Crown Estate delivers £285m profit each year, 85% of which goes to the Treasury (UK government), and they won’t relinquish that easily

    • LAK says:

He is trying to take personal ownership of the Crown Estates. The sovereign grant is 15% of the Crown Estates. He is attempting this egregious move by claiming that it is in our interests for him to receive all revenues of the crown estates rather than pay him just 15%. Nevermind that he is excluded from FOI requests and the Crown Estates are valued at nearly £2B. whilst we gripe that the royals cost at minimum £300M [at the last count!} most of it is transparent even if it’s convoluted in the reporting. by that i mean that if you were really determined, you can follow the different revenue streams, of which the sovereign grant is one, and eventually arrive at a final figure. However, that final figure would be only a third of the total worth of the crown estates which is a ridiculous and shameless grab. as he is exempt from FOI act, it would be impossible to track how the crown estates were being disbursed.

ps: he isn’t offering to give up the 2 duchies that he and HM currently hold. so the crown estates would be on top of that.

and the most ridiculous part of all is that the 85% that goes into the treasury is used for public services. that is the only reason those estates exist. again Charles isn’t offering to shoulder that burden….but yea, give him the crown estates!!!!!!

      • FLORC says:

        Tina/LAK
Could he actually get away with that or is this just a move to see if he could later down the line? Testing the waters.
