Ariana Grande on Donut-Gate: ‘My behavior was very offensive & I apologized’

wenn22771668

Back in July, Ariana Grande made headlines because she stood in a California donut shop, licking trays of donuts and declaring her hatred of fat people and America. It was a weird story, and Ariana took a big public hit because of it. It also made it difficult for Ariana’s defenders to reject this notion that she’s just misunderstood, that she’s truly a nice person or whatever. Nope. She’s a brat. She’s an America-hating, donut-shaming, fan-shading, left-side-preferring diva-brat. While Ariana did offer a weird video apology for Donut-gate, she did get some good advice and kept her head down for the rest of the summer.

But on Tuesday, Ariana mush-mouthed and baby-talked her way back into the public sphere. She sat down with Good Morning America for what turned out to be a hilarious 4-minute interview intended to shill her new fragrance, Ari by Ariana Grande. First of all, the optics were amazing. She must have pitched a toddler hissy and GMA producers rolled their eyes and allowed her to be photographed on her left side. No other celebrity is angled this far away from the camera, to the point where the interview is basically done in almost complete profile. Also: I never even realized this before, but her left side isn’t that great. Secondly, who wears this much makeup on morning television? Why is her lipstick so comically over-applied? Anyway, here are some of the words Ariana spoke, with my translations below:

Ariana: “First of all, my behavior was very offensive and I apologized. There’s no excuse, or there’s nothing to justify it, but I think that as human beings we all say and do things that we don’t mean at all sometimes, and we have to learn from it. I mean that’s part of our process. We have to learn from our mistakes – that’s how we grow.”

Translation: “I already apologized once and I’m not going to do it again OMG why are you still talking about this? This is why I hate America.”

Ariana: “I think one of the biggest things I learned from that was what it feels like to disappoint so many people who love and believe in you. And that’s an excruciating feeling.”

Translation: “It was so difficult to feel like I wasn’t the most beloved toddler diva, it hurt me so much, I can’t believe how all of those mean fatties ganged up against me.”

Ariana: “You have to remember that your words, your actions, have ramifications, and you have to really think about what you’re about to say and do because it’s important. It’s important to so many people.”

Translation: “I promise to never get caught on camera speaking candidly about how much I still hate America, fat people and donuts. God, I hate all of you so much, buy my perfume, losers.”

    She makes me Yawn.

  2. Imo says:

How passive. How about I was very offensive – her behavior was only the result of her decisions, not the cause. Ugh.

    • sarah says:

I laughed out loud when she said her fragrance is about “being yourself” “loving yourself”-right after she half assed her apology for donut-gate-because the most important thing is to be you..
Unless of course- according to Ariana- if you’re fat, don’t eat healthy 24/7, or ugly.. “being yourself” isn’t really gonna cut it.

  3. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

“I think as human beings we all say and do things we don’t mean at all sometimes”

    Like your apology?

  4. MonicaQ says:

Every time I hear her music, I too want to “bweak fwee”.

The translations made me snicker, ngl. Especially for the one where she was like “Are you still talking about this?” because she probably said that out loud when she got her questions ahead of time.

  5. Barrett says:

I can’t w this! I work at a hospital there are so many more important issues in life!

  6. Yoohoo says:

Her eyebrows. What is going on with her eyebrows?

  7. Dee says:

I’m sure we’ve all talked about how much we dislike america. I know i have so I’m actually with her on that one. But I’m crying laughing at the fact that she’s only showing the left side of her face!!!! This girl is ridiculous……

  8. Kiki says:

I want a real woman who sings real musc. Adele, please come back, we miss you. Although my heart still aches for Amy Winehouse ( God Bless Her Soul), at least we should have some more good music like Leona Lewis and Adele.

  9. NewWester says:

Ariana reminds me of a contestant from Rupaul’s Drag Race. She looks like Bianca Del Rio the winner from Season Six!

  10. snowflake says:

I though she is from boca raton, Florida?

  11. Catwoman says:

I am like, freaking running, like, to the store because, like, I really want to, like, smell like a raspberry marshmallow.

  12. Maum says:

    Forget the stupid makeup.

Why is she wearing stripper heels on morning TV?

  13. EN says:

it is just painful how dim the girl is. How did she make it that far?

  14. ladyg says:

To play Devil’s advocate (because why not):

Donald Trump — and, quite frankly, most politicians — are currently on the campaign trail, shouting a variation of: “The country has gone to hell in a hand basket! OMG, WE HAVE TO CHANGE BECAUSE THINGS ARE TERRIBLE! America is no longer great!”

Yet, when a young Latina girl says the country sucks, it’s bedlam! Don’t ya know, only wealthy white men (running for president) are allowed to say the country sucks!

Full Disclosure: I know nothing about this girl. This is the first time I’ve ever clicked on a link about her. So, who knows, maybe I am missing something.

    • Ninks says:

She’s Italian, not Latina. And a 23 year old woman, not a girl.

The politicians usually say the want to make America great *again*. They *love* America, they just don’t like what it’s become under Obama. The real and only target of their vitriol is the current (black) president who they blame for all the country’s woes.

Grande stated that she *hates* America. She retracted it later and said that what she really hates is fat people, but the real reason people reacted so badly to her was because of her behavior – licking the doughnuts she had no intention of buy was gross, her comment about hating America added to the general reaction, but I think for most people it wasn’t the main thing.

      • ladyg says:

Thanks for the correction on her background. As I said, I really know very little about her — and am too lazy to look it up. As for the 23-year-old woman? Egh, gonna have to disagree a bit there. I know a lot of people think folks should have it all together by 21, but I am one of those people who didn’t get my act together — or mature — till I was about 32 or so and therefore have sympathy /empathy for people in their 20s who eff up.

As for the Trump thing? I get what you’re saying, but in a way, it’s semantics. Certain people are allowed to criticize the country, and others aren’t. It’s been that way since jump.

      • perplexed says:

Most people by 23 know not to lick the donuts on the counter though. That’s just wrong. Even 10 year olds know not to do that.

      • ladyg says:

Perplexed: Like I said, I know nothing about the incident – I was just referring to the “america” part.

      • perplexed says:

I just think she received more heat for licking the donut than saying she hates Americans (and fat people). I don’t know if the incident would have blown up as big as it did if the health authorities and sanitation people didn’t have to be called in.

  15. Mark says:

My guess is, she was high on drugs, when she licked the dounts and wasn´t thinking straight.

  16. Nicolette says:

I’m sure the poor sap that bought and ate the doughnut with her spit on it just feels so much better now.

  17. Skins says:

    LOL! Great translations

  18. baby faced killer says:

She keeps posing and batting her lashes

  19. Esteph says:

She made a half-assed apology in my opinion. She’s a bore, brat, and immature in nature. Go back to sleep baby Ariana

  20. Kelly says:

My son is 17 and can’t stand her. The donut licking was it for him.

  21. Mark says:

A mature person would have paid for the damage, he caused, but she didn`t mentioned nothing. Did she pay for the donuts?

  22. Cindy says:

She looks like a botoxed Beverly Hills housewife in the first picture. What a loathsome, vacuous little twit.

  23. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Those translations were hilarious and accurate.

  24. perplexed says:

This interview is even funnier than the one Reese Witherspoon did when she went on her apology tour

  25. Mark says:

That woman is despreate for attention. Why should she start talking about something, what she doesn`t really regret? Everybody is talking about her, if she wasn`t despreate, she would try to downplay everything. She must have lost a lot of fan.

  26. pinetree13 says:

Kaiser, not sure if you will read comments now that the story is two days old but your translations were HILARIOUS. I love your wit.
